      Yes...that’s my sister Jill. The prayers are working. Her PETScan showed no more lymphoma. She still has a long road to recovery, but the cancer is gone. 🙏 Thank you for your prayers.

    Very good video I love how you made it through the rock scramble. Don’t know how but glad you made it. Very nice scenery. Hope your niece and sister and brother-in-law had fun on the hike. Glad you made it down ok as well. There was a lot of beautiful scenery. Saw the deer.The water looked beautiful. Cold but beautiful. Thank you Catherine for a great video. See your soon! Stay safe. Can’t wait until next video.

    Just caught up to this saga. The grandest superlatives hardly do justice to the beauty, ruggedness, and grandeur of this area. You are a true person of the wilderness. So great to share with your family, especially your sister who seemed to have been working through some tough times. So amazing.

    Excellent job ladies !!! I give you a ton of credit for doing this.People don't realize just how hard it is to walk that far and in that type of terrain. I've been to Minaret Lake and that was hard as hell. I did it in one day though.

    What an amazing place! I loved lake Eliza! That boulder scramble looked pretty intense, especially with a pack on your back. But much better than forging the roaring rapids. And you two doing two 10,000 ft passes in one day is no joke. Now you have a taste of the jmt. And got to traverse the pct too. What stunning scenery. Words fail to capture the pristine magesty. Thanks for posting

    Catherine, You have a gift with the camera! I am so inspired by your videos, your way of being, your choice of music, everything...This is a partial quote from Eckhart Tolles "Stillness Speaks " that I love, if you haven't heard or read it. " Nature can bring you to stillness. That is it's gift to you. When you perceive and join with nature in the field of stillness, that field becomes permeated with your awareness. That is your gift to nature. Through you nature becomes aware of itself. Nature has been waiting for you, as it were, for millions of years." Makes me cry every time! Thanks also for mentioning your friends site " My own Frontier" I have been enjoying those video's a lot too!!

    My last backpacking trip was in 2007 and we did the Ediza-Iceberg-Minarets Lakes loop from the Agnew Trailhead to Devils Postpile. We took the shuttle bus from the Mammoth Mtn. main lodge area. I tore through 80% of my right knee ACL when I was 17, which led to the early development of arthritis in it. Eventually the left knee, having to make up for the weakness of the right knee, developed arthritis when I was in my 40's. So I had to give up backpacking at the age of 56. About 5 years ago I finally had to give up day hiking as well. I took up long distance cycling around 2007 and started to get serious about it a couple of years later. Long distance cycling in the eastern Sierra is outstanding.
    This hike is in my backyard. I've been all over the terrain in this video several times. I've found your channel and I use it, along with a couple of others, to vicariously continue to backpack. I like the way you film things and what you have to say. Thank you for your efforts producing the videos you do.

      +wannabe to wasabe I’m sorry you are not able to hike any longer. I honestly don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t. It has become my biggest passion. I am glad that you can come along vicariously through my videos and the videos of others. Thank you for the kind words and feedback. This was probably the most beautiful area of the Sierra I’ve hiked, thus far.

    This is absolutely gorgeous. I'm an amateur photographer and just floored by this jaw dropping beauty!! And that you and your friend Christine shared this journey together was beautiful. Made me cry when you turned the camera on her (after your second 10,000 ft pass mark), and said that "she's been through alot ". Kudos to her for conquering such a physically strenuous, yet rewarding feat! I have never been hiking in the Sierra's, would love to see Ediza Lake in person but have never hiked that far or strenuously before, not sure I could, as I have a bad ankle from an old fracture. Can you recommend a more doable hike in the Eastern Sierras? I'm thinking maybe some trails around the June Lake loop? And, can you recommend a good pair of hiking shoes or boots? Thank you so much for sharing these epic locations!

    Catherine, though I could hike 20 miles in one day I didn't in the Sierra, you miss too much and mostly look at the trail and little else. Beautiful video, it looks so alpine-ish with the snow still there. It was like that the first time I ever went there.

    I love your videos bu could do w/o the UA-cam provided music as I'm sure most of your viewers would agree. No music can enhance the sounds of the wilderness. The only exception might be some of the large loud waterfalls. your commentary is all that's needed.

    • @CatherineGregoryAdventures
      @CatherineGregoryAdventures  5 років тому

      Hi Norm. This video is s couple years old. I either don’t use music at all anymore except for my intro or use it very sparingly. The only reason I use it now is to either mask human noise (which in some heavily populated tourist areas can be bad) or wind noise. I try to keep it very tasteful, calm and soothing when I do use it. I agree with you. As a videographer I am constantly learning and evolving and hopefully improving as the years go by. Thanks for your input.

    I’m interested in doing this hike. I’m currently trying to navigate the permit nonsense and am concerned about acclimation being from the east coast. Your video has shed some light on what to expect on the trail.

      Sal Manila you just need to be on top of it. The permits are released 6 months in advance. If you want to do your trip in August, work on getting your permit 6 months exactly prior to August. If you wait, they’ll be gone. If you can either reserve a campsite or room in Mammoth for ideally 2 nights, but at least one night prior to your hike...I’d recommend that. It’ll give you time to acclimate to the elevation. Take ibuprofen before you set out and even every 4 hours during your hike. Drink lots of water prior and during also. If you begin feeling the effects of the altitude move to lower ground. It’s amazing and you will love it!

    Another question. Do you like to fish ? So many pretty lakes and streams where you go. I would have to wet a hook. That would he some good camp vittles👍🏻🙂

    Maybe my favorite place on earth, it truly is beautiful every step of the way. Really nice job on the video too, your footage, and story telling are great. Also love that you kept your girly side with the hot pink top and painted nails. :-)

    The quality of the video is fantastic. I'm new to camping and have a question about showering. If you plan to camp for like three days, do you usually bring a solar shower bag and a shower tent? or do you just go without showering? I'm a neat freak and would hardly sleep without showering.

    • @CatherineGregoryAdventures
      @CatherineGregoryAdventures  7 років тому +3

      Thank you so much! I do not bring any type of shower when I am backpacking. When you carry everything in on your back, you really have to only bring the absolute necessities. I camp near a lot of lakes, so I have the option to wash up in the lake. I carry in Dr. Bronner's eco friendly soap and a pack towel. Also, I bring lots of wipes to take a "wipe bath". Being dirty is just part of backpacking. You never feel completely clean, but those are some things you can do to stay hygienic and feel comfortable.

    • @markchanggz1
      @markchanggz1 7 років тому

      Great. I'll just have to see how it goes without showering. Perhaps I can beat my OCD. Another problem is I really hate public bathrooms, and those portable bathrooms on hiking trails are the most abominable things on earth. I'm planning to bring a trovel and dig some nice cat holes.

    Epic scenery. If you don't mind me asking a question, can you tell me what time of year did you do this trail? Everything looks green and there is snow still on the ground. I have watched other video's of people traveling this area in mid-August and everything is dry and brown.

    • @CatherineGregoryAdventures
      @CatherineGregoryAdventures  6 років тому +1

      Hi Bruce. It was the first week of August 2017. The 2016/2017 winter season was a record breaking season in terms of snowfall in the Sierra with over 30ft of snowpack. It was a very “wet” year as opposed to drought conditions in previous years. That’s why it’s so green.

    Timely video for me. When were you there? I'll be doing some off trail hiking in a couple of weeks starting at Minarett to Cecille to Iceberg to Ediza to the west end of Garnet and the west end of 1000 Island. I'm interested in getting an idea of how much snow I'll be facing in those off trail passes west of those lakes, and your video gives me an idea.

    OMG that is such beauty, I am Soo hungry to see such sights with my own eyes, I'll have to work myself up a bit at a time, I got the fever for the trail now, my goal for now is to within the next year or so, have the funds to gear up and hit the North country trail, I want to hike the entire length, after that, who knows where my path will go.

      I don’t think it matters however, if you go counter clockwise you get the less beautiful section done first.

    Hello ! I was wondering how you booked your permits for this particular trip since you were on 3 different trails? I'm still a little rusty with booking backpacking permits on recreation.gov....

    • @CatherineGregoryAdventures
      @CatherineGregoryAdventures  6 років тому +1

      Hi Jessica. You only need to book one permit from your starting point, but list the different spots you intend to camp and how many days you'll be out for. You will have all those options when reserving the permit. It's tough to get these as it's a very popular trail. They may be completely booked through the season as you can reserve them up to 6 months in advance.
