Backpacking the Wind River Range | Cirque of the Towers Loop via Texas Pass | Jackass Pass | CDT

- Come along on an epic 6 day backpack in the Wind River Range of Wyoming! This is a loop that begins and ends at the Big Sandy trailhead. Joining me on this trip is Bryan DeLay (link to his UA-cam channel is below). We traverse the burly Texas Pass as our entry point into the iconic and majestic Cirque of the Towers and hike many "unofficial trails" in the very rugged backcountry of The Winds! The scenery is absolutely stunning. I have come to consider this mountain range among the most beautiful in the world.

Just from this video, alone, and at 66 years old, I know that I must go and see this place for myself. I've never had a "bucket list," but I do now. You make truly wonderful videos of nature and hiking. Thank you.
My hiking partner in this video (Bryan) is 67.
deanxxi you won’t regret it
@deanxxi, I'm 66, my wife is 65 and along with our daughter, we're avid backpackers and hikers in Colorado. As long as you're in reasonable health and your joints don't give you too many problems, you can hike as well!! The wilderness is calling.
Yep. I’m 66 too and just returned from our annual man hike into the Wind River range. It snowed on us so you may want to schedule your trip for late August 2021.
Well my 66 year old legs held up pretty well when I was there on 6/25/23. Wasn't ready for the high streams, no bridges and if you like the mountains in snow you better be ready for mud. High water made it an out and back hike but it was quite awesome. Put the camera on a rock and ran some video to bring it home. No bears or signs, a few flakes of snow on 6/27. Pretty intense, made me want to climb higher and still processing the experience. Be advised that last ten miles to the Sandy lake trailhead needs a high clearance vehicle. My Accord took 40 minutes and one rock hit the frame. Very few crowds and a zillion lakes to fish in. Was my third backpacking trip there, long hikes in through the foothills coming from the east but would a great feeling to cross through, hike the entire range, just a hassle getting a ride back to your ride.
once again you found another spectacular place on the USA soil. Oh to be young and healthy again. Thank You
I just wanted to tell you that our videos are SO good, and continue to improve. Everything; the shots you take, soundtrack, the editing, angles, narration, and overall story..... you capture these magical places so well. Your are truly setting a new standard for youtube hiking videos! Great job and thank you for sharing!
Wow! Thank you so much for the kind feedback!!
I second all of the comments here. This is only the second video of yours I've watched, and they are captivating. I can't improve much on The_Voluntaryist" comments, except to say that catching the sounds of your camp, especially the stove, the wind in the passes, the serenity of your presentation, your choice of music, is the next best thing to being there. Thank you. A lot.
Now if someone could invent a way to pipe in those mountain smells.
Cecil B. DeCatherine! Your photography, music and story are outstanding! Everyone needs to pass information around about your site so you can get the many more subscribers you deserve.
Thank you so much!
Just when I think "it can't get more beautiful" it does.
Good morning... awesome to see an Amazing lady living her Dream. ❤️
I was about to say the same thing!
That was stunning, so beautiful 😍 Thanks for sharing, I enjoy your videos very much.
Catherine Gregory . . thanks for posting . . . I hiked these trails thru the Wind River Range, by the Cirque of the Towers and JackAss Pass, back in October of 1988 . . . Originally, having planned to hike the Tetons, our trip there was thwarted with the continued Yellowstone Fires of '88 . . .those trails had been closed the day before we arrived. Thus, a quick change, back downstate to the Wind River Range . . 6 days of very interesting trails . . .ironically it started raining on us the first morning . .and as we crossed the Continental Divide to the east, that turned into snow . . .lived in snow for 5 days . . . last day out, after crossing back over the divide to the west, a beautiful blue sky day greeted us . . . Sadly, I've never been back to get to see ALL the panoramic views. I do remember all the beautiful natural lakes . . by the scores and scores . . hundreds of them . . .from small half acre ponds to large 200+ acre lakes . . .
I would have to be fishing with my Tenkara back packing pole. Would love having more of the camp site and camp chores in the videos. Camp chit chat when you are with somone is good too.
O.M.G....the beauty you captured is beyond my ability to describe. Actually brought tears to my eyes. I wish I could leave ten thumbs up.
Such stunning videography. Texas pass looked treacherous. Thanks so much for taking me places I can't go.
Beautiful area. Thank you for such great videoing of the fantastic country side. Awesome!
Never say can't! 😁
@@TheHikingChick1 I love your positive attitude but in this case I can't because I'm handicapped. That's why I appreciate these types of videos. Enjoy your hikes and keep up your positivity.
@@lustraveller717 Understood. I apologize for my presumption. I hope you are able to get outdoors to some accessible areas. 🌻💛
Thank you for taking the time and care to film and post such restorative beauty. It’s especially healing at a time when we’re being asked to stay in place as much as possible.
Just when we think we have seen the best of the best, Mother Nature surprises us yet again and reminds us to stay humble.
Thanks for sharing your adventures with those of us who can no longer trek.
Just a beautiful location. The peaks, lakes and meadows are stunning. Im glad you are out there challenging yourself and living life in this gorgeous area. Thanks for the share! ♡♡
Thank you 🙏
Rugged and remote. It reminds me of old forgotten movies somehow.
That pass looked so challenging but you two conquered it quite well.Your endurance is amazing!
There’s something about a lake when all is still, that begs you to look at all it’s beauty.
I can only imagine the temperature changes, the wind changes, the feeling of the air and all the different smells in the air.
Even the feeling on your feet and legs as the terrain changes.
Just imagine if you were blind....there is still so much here to notice and appreciate.
Thank you for such a beautiful video!
Thank you so much!
As always the most incredible scenic hiking, camping and traverse video on the Internet. Your videos make it possible for the unfortunate who are unable to accomplish this incredible journey. Would love to see you add drone footage. Thanks
Ditto on the drone material.
I have to add my two cents too. Once again your excellent choice of scenic locations shines through. But it is your "photographer's eye" that makes your video so enjoyable. Who else would be able to see the beauty of tall green grasses waving in the wind!
Thank you 🙏!
Good morning 🌄 from New Mexico... awesome scenary...

Due to my health I will never get to see these beautiful places in person. When I watch your videos I feel that I am right along beside u. Thanks for touching so many hearts.
If I ever went into country like this, I'd never come back.
Thank you for this. My dad and I backpacked in when I was in 5th grade. We camped at Marms lake and did a day trip up Texas pass. Thanks for the footage which brings back good but challenging memories.

Gotta love the winds, Been in there a bunch from all sides , but need to do. A south to north trip from here to green river lakes
I was supposed to start another 5 day trip beginning at the Green River Lakes trailhead last week. I would have been coming out today. Unfortunately, I cancelled due to smoke and horrible visibility. :(
Catherine Gregory supposed to be in Teton wilderness area Labor Day time frame but we’ll see, yeah green river lakes into titcomb is my favorite
