I believe that in the original song there are two bass tracks layered on top of each other and this is only one of those two.That explains why this track doesn’t have the chorusy sound it does in the finished song. If you listen to the actual song you can hear the two tracks separate at certain points, like in the outro at around 3:03 you hear an open E get hit in the other track that you don’t hear on this track.
It might be the guitar part. It's much more prominent on the Permanent version but it's still present on the original, albeit mixed very low. Maybe that's where the chorusing comes from.
