Sublime, extreme and all-embracing… only superlatives will do to describe Bach’s Mass in B minor, the 'Hohe Messe', performed by the Netherlands Bach Society for All of Bach. In between an awe-inspiring Kyrie and the jubilant final Dona nobis pacem, there are nine completely unique arias and duets, fourteen impressive ensemble sections for four, five, six and even eight voices, a broad spectrum of instrumental solos, and an incredible variety of styles.
Recorded for the project All of Bach on December 15th 2016 at the Grote Kerk, Naarden. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel bit.ly/2vhCeFB or consider donating bit.ly/2uZuMj5.

It will never stop boggling my mind how one person wrote all the different parts for all of the different instruments and voices to work perfectly together, making a sound so divine it wrenches your very being and causes you to close your eyes in awe.
This final of the Gloria in Bach's "Mass in B minor" is simply a contagious joy. It's the choir of angels singing before God.
At first the notion of hanging out in heaven with angels singing all the time sounds a bit boring...but when you hear this, you realize that it could be pretty good.
Not to oversell it but...this is the greatest movement in the greatest musical masterwork ever written.
Not to oversell it but... *continues to oversell it*
every bit of the Mass in B minor is a jewel in the glorious crown crafted by JS Bach! But you lot make me cry (with joy) far too often! :)
Really agree with this comment ❤️
@@ashencooray And I really agree to this comment and the comment that prompted it! ;)
This part of the Mass is written in such a way that makes my tears roll down every time I listen to it. Sublime music - cathartic effect!
This is just...
...pure perfection

Thomas Hobbs in 1min5s begins with one of the most beautiful moments that have ever been made, it is a masterpiece
I sang it in 1993 and 2009 and I remember every notes of tenor line today. I feel privileged with my memory
Yes, that's why these presentations by the Netherlands Bach people are so important to me, too. Like you, I remember many if not most of the bass lines even though I have never participated in the Bach B minor on stage. My college choir scheduled its performances (with a famous orchestra) the year before I joined and in 40+ years of choral singing subsequently I never managed to hook up with a good ensemble that programmed it. No better fun, and the Netherlands people show it in their presentations.
Best regards from bass, who feels as much privileged as you do :)
Oh, my fellow tenor, what memories! I sang it in 2000 on a concert tour through Brazil - with 30 degrees and 100 % humidity in the church and parts of the audience dancing (!) to the "Cum sancto spiritu". One of the most "sportive" and at the same time deeply heartfelt musical experience.
@@maciejschumacher3590 And from soprano II. ❤
Dutch artists sound like THE legitimate successor of German Baroque music. This almost ethereal performance is beaten by none! Despite all those controversial political censorship, no one can deny UA-cam's enormous contribution to archiving the greatest music mankind has managed to accumulate.
Unbelievable, this is by far the most rhytmic accurate performance of Cum Sancto Spiritu ever heard!
A masterpiece, simply magnificent ❤️
The Netherlands Bach Society's B-minor mass remains the best performance of the piece on UA-cam, and it certainly has a claim for being the best version of piece ever recorded. Their cum sancto spiritu erupts with rhythm and joy oft missing from performances of this bombastic end to the Gloria of the B-minor mass. It is incredible and a true cultural gift that Netherlands Bach Society provides us all with this fantastic performance.
Cum Sancto Spiritu at the end of the Gloria is more often than not a fugue. I honestly don't know why. There are better minds than mine. However, this fugue of Bach never fails to uplift me and to put a smile on my face and to rewind back to the beginning and to listen to it all in it's complex and yet orderly magnificence.
After 3 months home, back in the far South West of England, I'm back at work in Port Moresby now on day 12 (I think) of quarantine in isolation and this UA-cam video has certainly raised my spirits. :)
The trumpet line in the last eight bars *03:20* gives me goosebumps.
..that's what Bach usually DOES :)
Goosebumps for you, for me, as a trumpet player, nightmares.
The Sanctus clears
and it's really tough to play especially on natural trumpet
It reminds me to my mother who sung this many years ago. Tears in my eyes.
Music of the highest order ever to emerge on this planet!
This is a piece of music with one of the most drive that I know.
I have never believed in perfection in all aspects of life ... but Bach's music proved the opposite. It is perfection. It is the cosmic soul in hormonal musical notes.
Fugue in all its splendor. What a masterpiece !
One can only imagine the amount of painstaking practice let alone tremendous talent of each member of this ensemble, to achieve this level of performance.
Stunningly convincing and great performance of music that I have been listening to (regularly) for 40 years
The more you listen to it, the better it gets.
to me, the GREATEST music on earth the Mass from Bach..
Historic performance is an understatement.
Although there are (also) solo parts, one can feel from this section of this great Mass, that it is meant to be performed by a lot of musicians, to be heard by humanity in general. The excellent NBS musicians and their conductor do not disappoint us - they give us one of the best performances of this Mass, ever! Bravissimi to all of you!
An absolutely fantastic performance with Bach's joyful and devoted homage to God so moving and emotional music that touch.
Thank's NBS
I’ve sung this a few times and if you can’t keep count to your entry you’re in big trouble!!!
But what a wonderful version this is: fantastic period instruments, a beautiful festive setting and the most amazing voices. Bravo the Nertherlands Bach Society. I’m your biggest fan ...
yeah i played 3rd trumpet in this once and was kinda betting the first two kept count... fail
best music ever
I love the fugue sections, but the second go-around when it's shifted to B minor is especially awesome. The blending of he altos with the orchestra in the reprise of the subject is exquisite. This is absoultely joyful to listen to on so many levels. Like everyone else here, tears of joy well up in my eyes.
Tempi, dynamics, phrasing, joy. This choir and band have it all!
IMHO, the greatest vocal fugue from the Master.
I truly believe music is more than the beliefs it espouses... this music, and Baroque music like it, is a mathematical equation for realizing the beauty of how nature is constituted, aurally. Whether you believe someone, or something, created it and imbued it innately with that beauty, or that our senses and consciousness evolved to be able to organize the patterns in nature and associate it with well-being and prosperity, there is a path to appreciating what this music, and all music, underneath the text, conveys.
Lovely to hear this again; it's been awhile.
Absolutely amazing contrapunctal writing
2:15 Modulation in Soprano. So beautiful. I can't get over it
ESPECTACULAR, MAJESTUOSO BELLÍSIMO.
GRACIAS DESDE MÉXICO
I've come back to this time and time again since it was first published. It's one of the finest examples of choral/orchestral artistry, perfect tempo, commitment to time, and brilliant joy I've ever heard in classical music. Bravi!
Like almost all your listeners, makes me cry...with Joy!
Beautiful and exciting performance as was the entire video from which this snippet was taken. I was fortunate enough to see and hear the B Minor Mass performed in the Thomaskirche in Leipzig by the Thomanerchor, Gewandhaus Orchestra on the 250th anniversary of Bach's death. It was quite amazing. It was at the performance that it finally became clear to me how so much of the Mass consists of ecstatic dances, so much so, on that occasion in fact, that a number of the Thomaner boys could not suppress moving in response to the rhythm. The video is also on UA-cam.
Wonderful! Wunderbarl! Bach is pure genius. And it's a dance. How can anyone be an atheist when listening this? So we evolved from nothing, did we? Nothing is what rocks drream of!
So you have a problem with life evolution from simple to complex, but you find it easier to believe that an all-powerful personal consciousness just exists, since ever, beyond time with no origin, no end and never created... :)) Anyway, let's just enjoy this music! :)
@@cristianbranea5034 ,
Think about it: Matter, energy, space and time must have an origin. That which is eternal must be divine.
Now this is really spectacular
Just wow. No words to describe the beauty in their performance and in Bach’s genius.
Mesmerising
Ah! What an edifying chorus! Bach's wields his devout magic!
Music of Bach Is wonderful. I feel in the sky.
Bach absolutely and totally kicks over the traces here!
Glorious! Thank you!
Out of words other than "Deo Gloria"
Glorious! Bravissimi!
just phantastic! thank you
Perfekcyjne wykonanie, doskonaļe zagrane I zaśpiewane. Słuchakąc, latam ponad dachami I jestem w Niebie.

Interesting how people created a naming standard limited to something like 12 common keys for millions of pieces.
lmao
The numbered systems are catalogued long after the musician's death. The Bach BWV system was created 200 years after his death. If there are a substantial catalogue of Bieber works still being played in 200 years then they may well also get numbered for clarity!
Pure bliss.
C’est tout simplement incroyable
Mais quel rythme effréné et quelle maîtrise ! Superbe, bravo !!!
How completely awesome 😮
È bello vedervi e sentirvi siete meravigliosi e Bach commuove. ...bravissimi!!!!
NBS is the contemporary Concentus Musicus. The late master, Harnoncourt, would be glad to know Bach's work rests in good hands.
Go ahead, listen to the Cum Sancto Spiritu a few times and watch the singers' and conductor's involvement in the music. No one cares if you rock and roll with the singers; that's what you are supposed to do. Sing along, make up the words if you like (but the original Latin text is always great), but participate. I'll bet you get a charge out of this even if you have sung this masterwork a dozen times, and singing it will lift you up.
Hay una palabra para el.
Genio...
Fantastisch!
Fantastic bravo !!!
Fabulous! Happy Christmas all 😘
Magníficos!!!!!
Maravilhoso!
Recently I discovered the fact (unbeknownst to me alone perhaps) that Holland holds not a few unbeatable (still commercially low-profile) talents who presents literally perfect Bach.
Best style ever for Bach religious works!!..... Crisp, bright, sweet, vigorous, harmonious, quite loose. Small choir with lovely voices! powerful orchestra! No more of those slow ponderous orchestral contributions and no more of that dreadful muddy "big choir" sound topped off by harsh "shrieking" uncontrolled soprano voices.
i'd love to had heard this live
Magnificent the angels voices
That bass player ❤️❤️❤️
I’m so pleased this conductor keeps Sato in line. I laugh to see how this violinist acts like he’s running the show - sitting leaning forward half turned around in his chair, while the entire orchestra utterly ignores him.
Very good, you should believe
Angel's voices perfect sounds
Wondrous
My mother doesn't understand the concept of crying out of sheer joy and spiritual elation she always tries to stop me and gets so upset with me for it! Let me enjoy it with you because it's not very English! It's my little secret being European still at heart! It makes me feel very patriotic.😉
I am an atheist, but I regret it when I hear Bach.
I am an atheist too, but Bach's music certainly inspires a feeling of awe which I am guessing is the closest to a religious feeling I'll ever come.
Don't regret it, just enjoy the fact that you are a rational being who is also capable of being spiritually uplifted.
just stop regretting and believe in God, it's actually the most rational choice when it comes to beliefs !
belief is totally irrational. if you make up your worldview based on irrationality, you are either deluded or sick.
If it speaks to you that much, there's nothing to say you're prohibited from believing or reconsidering at least. Either way you can still enjoy it.
Chills!!
Sensationell gut!

Solo el y Mozart.
Llegan a estos cielos
😊😊😊 One entire day for me. 😇
Pues me imagino a Bach riendose incluso de su propia música. 😂😂😂
Igual a veces no se acuerda que las otras personas son humanas.
Thanks be to Jesus that Sato didn't ruin THIS piece by playing it like a violin concerto!
I can always trust a fugue from Bach to take me to another planet :]
Bravi!
No hay manera de no sentirse cristiano cuando uno escucha a Bach
I got a kick out of watching Robert Franenberg play the contrabass!
