Well I'm a saying I like everything that you mention but scarecrow I love it but I got to be in the mood all right okay Cherry Bomb come on that's awesome and then they don't check it out oh I love check it out
Rain on the scarecrow is super personal to John. Its all about farmers struggleing to keep their crops and herds leading to mass volumes of forclosures and then consequently suicides. John started a special fund or whatnot to help save families farms. Im not wording it right lol. But he gave back to the place he was raised. He never forgot his small town.
I agree agree but where is Cherry Bomb and something I really love but the timing has to be good on this one is scarecrow because that song Cuts me to the Bone
@@allendixon1044 look at my comment directly below. I added two others right after my first two. Cherry Bomb is exceptional. I was a huge fan in the 80's and 90's. Still listen to his music on a regular. It doesn't age, it sounds just as good today as it did in the 80's.
*My Man* !!! Been watching you since your first video in the garden sir.! I'm commenting *BEFORE* I watched your reaction, do you know why.? Because finally, *FINALLY* *F I N A L L Y* Someone reacted to John Mellencamp, formerly known as John Cougar Mellencamp, former!y known as Johnny Cougar, the last two incarnations he hated with a passion.! So.... FINALLY John Mellencamp's *EXTENSIVE VAULT* gets opened by someone..! There are so many endless good tunes like Small Town, Paper and Fire, Check it Out, Crumblin down but let me do you a solid, just to listen on your own.! His { IMHO } most memorable work came in two albums back to back *Scarecrow* and *Lonesome Jubilee* !!! I would also say an earlier albumn entitled *American Fool* is close, but a less mature, less if an activist John on that one.! *Thank You for this* David ...
❤👋Love him!!Mellencamp started Farm Aid w/Willie Nelson back in the 80s. Big fan! His statements on Americana are classic! No one ever requests the fun "Play A Guitar" from his early yrs- He's cool!
Another great American storyteller. When i first heard Mellencamp as a (younger) man decades ago, I liked him but had no idea his career would blossom as it did, and, over the years, spawn so damn many epic songs cementing his name and contributions.
This song is fun to play and even more fun to sing! 😅 The feeling I get is a distant bittersweet sadness. A troubadour to the common folks “like you and me”
I still have the vinyl copy of this album, I bought it when it came out in the 80s. John is a great story teller. He tells storys about American life. This is one of his best songs.
Good ol' John Cougar Mellencamp, been a fan since 'Ain't Even Done with the Night'. I used to sing many of his songs at Karaoke back in the day, including this one here. Good to see that you appreciate him Abracadabra.
Love him. Such a humble, down to earth rocker who is like the ultimate All American guy who loves his country and is a great storyteller! A man who loves mankind and sings for every man and woman no matter their race, social standing. Middle class hard working people. Great analysis!
Indiana is a different land Abracadabra. There are strong men living along I 94 in Gary Indiana that are proud to be American. They work 16 hours a day in the mill forging this country's steel. Along I 65 in Indianapolis a proud man goes to work in America to support his family. This is where you put yourself for this tale. It's a place in the country on the south coast of the great lakes. The cold waves of Lake Michigan crash against the shore, the sand dunes rise to incredible heights, and people grasp hands, look each other in the eyes and shake hands. They love each other, suspiciously. Just for a moment, sometimes, race don't mean shit, and we'll kick your ass together. These Americans have shoulders. Hard workers that spend 30 years together, hand in hand, forging steel to send their kids to the university, in hopes they can live a better life, to move out of that little pink house into something grander. The struggle is real in a way it isn't any other place in this country. It ain't Chicago, nope, and it ain't the south. Nope. It ain't the coasts, and thank god for all that. It's a special place you just have to be from. The people there are the heart beating strongly and free in a way no other place I've been does. You just don't know unless you've been there and experienced it.
Hi hun!! I had all of John Cougar Mellenkamps albums back in the day. One of my Favorites of his was "Hurts So Good"....it was a Huge hit for him!! Played on the radio all the time!! Still does sometimes!! 👍💖👍
He’s from my town. The video was done 1 mi from my house. His songs are about the heartland. One of the founders of Farm Aid & Inducted in rocky hall of fame. My husband went to school John. 🔥🔥🔥🔥Blood on the Scare Crow one of my favorites
You are so right, John’s songs are almost all about regular working folks. His best years were 79-91. The 80’s were his highlight. I don’t even know where to start in recommending to you. So many songs borrow from different musical styles and are put i to words that make you feel what he is singing down deep. I guess start with Rain on The Scarecrow, Cherry Bomb, Paper in Fire, Check it Out, Wild Night, and Small Town. 😊
You are right on the mark with Bob Seger and John Mellencamp. They bring out emotions when you listen to their music and that's what is supposed to happen. Good luck with the two rabbit holes you are going down into.
Mellencamp said this is one of his most misunderstood songs. Most people think that it's sort of an anthem. But he's really mocking the facade of the American Dream. He even described to the song as anti-American. But your video reminded me of the contest that MTV had for this song back in the 80s. It was called Paint that Mutha Pink. They were giving away a pink house. At the end of the contest John found out that the pink house they were giving away was built on a toxic waste dump. He refused to allow MTV to use it as the contest prize and made MYV purchase another place. The contest commercial is probably avaliable on UA-cam.
I appreciate your honest reactions and love of good musiic. For more songs like this try Jackson Brown or Jim Croce other singer/songwriters. I enjoy traveling down this road with you. Your first time Experiencing and hearing a song are my memories. I'm a 60 year ole white guy who likes all music. And you!
Great song choice, and another great reaction - I think this is John Mellencamp's best album, just great songs from top to bottom. Written, arranged and recorded live (no overdubs) in 16 days, and just feels beautifully loose Making my day again - thanks, my man!

Growing up outside Louisville KY and my granny was from French Lick IN..in the late 70s I saw him as Johnny Cougar. Listen to ''I ain't even done with the night''
Just wanted to say thanks for being such an honest fan of good music. Not only do you bring a true appreciation for different kinds of music but an intelligence that's hard to find on most reaction channels. It also doesn't hurt that I could listen to your velvet voice all day. Keep up the good work.

Happy to see you come back around to John Mellencamp. He has so many really great songs. You could stay busy for weeks reacting to his music. The thing I like about his songs -- aside from the great storytelling -- they make you want to dance, sing along, and repeat. :) When you're ready for more, "PAPER IN FIRE" ua-cam.com/video/myo9wXrNUP4/v-deo.html has a similar feel to this one, Rock 'N Roll Americana that makes you want to barbeque, dance, and drink a Coke. A wonderful song he did that sort of flew under the radar is also a 'gotta dance to this' tune, called "KEY WEST INTERMEZZO" ua-cam.com/video/RlMPYwGWLcI/v-deo.html. Check 'em out.
Cherry Bombs--it still gives me goosebumps, you almost can't find a bad one!
I think you'd like "Crumblin' Down" by John...outstanding....... Thanks for your reaction to this man, it's on point.
Met John in the mid 80s when I was a radio DJ. Fun loving dude...lol. If you like this song you’ll love his “Small Town”.
