Really cute and down to earth happening. I wish there were more of these. Letterman is a great interviewer. John is honest and informative. Thanks to the person who recorded this. To anyone out there feel free to record. We appreciate it😊
At 74, my still favorite song of his is Key West Intermezzo.
Music transformed me after a spinal cord injury, broken neck and loss of a career. 💜💚
Life goes on....long after the thrill of living is gone
wow, hang in there friend, life is precious
Love it or hate it, this is USA culture as I remember it. I enjoyed this.
Excellent conversation. Letterman is a spectacular broadcaster.
He really is. There's no one like him
Brilliant interview. 😊
Thanks both of you!❤😊
Just saw John at the Beacon last week… he was the best he’s ever been
PM Thank you for this !
Gaw'dang That Was Fantastic! Thank You for Posting
Man thank you for posting this…Wow.
I'm happy you like it! 😊
Excellent footage ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was in Seymour, Indiana a few weeks ago. Love John. He had a great band back in the day with Larry, Toby, Mike and Kenny.
♥️ Two Hoosiers that helped the 🌎....I love em both, always have and will......and there's really no place on Earth as pretty as Brown County in the Fall....... Bless these Men and thanx for the video..
So true!
Thanks for recording and posting this. Dave was just the right guy to get an informative and fun interview from John. I happened to read the Paul Rees biography Mellencamp earlier this year and it was fun to hear him relate some of the same info but in his own voice and style.
Kind of a great conversation! David Letter is amazing host !!!
A real conversation. No self promotion. No commercial references. No phones out. Just talking about life. Nice. And to think a supposed hard ass like John with no drinking and no drugs for most of his adult life. That’s a comforting thought as far as I’m concerned. Cause too many people waste a good chunk of their lives and act like assholes on that stuff. It’s too bad a guy like Tom Petty another legend got trapped by that shit.
I'm psyched to watch this interview between the two of you. LoVe you both!!
Love this! Dave, I still make your Mom’s recipes! John, love you too!
Love those Indiana boys❤
Thank you so much for sharing this!
I was brought to tears by the story of him and his father. This was excellent!
Thanks for uploading this!
Thanks for sharing this video. HUGE FAN of John. He's intelligent, honest, humble, handsome, talented, funny, a humanitarian and sounds like a wonderful Father and now Grandfather. His music will live on. He's truly a gifted artist and glad he's shared his talent with us. HE'S HILARIOUS!
This is great! Thank you.
thank you so much for filming & posting this!!
Thank you for this. Wonderful!
I went to Vincennes University when John did! Unfortunately never met him. Saw his show in Chicago it was awesome!
This was fantastic!
What a cool interview
this new album Orpheus Descending is so beautifully powerful naked amazing... no, I'm not a critique but damn. he just gets better... and...
John is as handsome now as he was back then.Thank you for all your great music.
Thank you for posting
You're welcome.
Without a doubt, David Letterman is the best in his field! And like John, I, too, no longer watch the late night talk shows. WE MISS YOU DAVE!!!!!
I love dave. Not enough silly anymore
John is like Brando... simply real..not perfect.. but real..and quite funny.. Glad Dave let him talk unlike Club Random.. where Bill needs to upstage his guests... Thanks John for being honest about Willie.. another legend. Could have gone another hour.. why these talks have to be so short...
Thank you ❤So genuine
Your welcome
good 'ol John
I'm glad you liked it! 😊

THE SONG WRITERS , THE STORY TELLERS OF THE WORLD MR. JOHN C. FOGERTY & MR. JOHN C. MELLENCAMP
I wanna see him in concert so bad man. Funny shit, me and my grandma got into when I was bout 14-15 and I thought I knew everything and she tells me I was conceived at a JCM concert 😂😂
So, your grandma is also your mom?
Love the paintings. How about The Manatou Art Gallery in Santa Fe NM? I think they would love to show them. Ask for Scott Stark . Thanks Sky
Knowing the history between De Niro and Letterman , Dave’s appearance here at Tribeca comes as quite a surprise.
33 years ago, I was driving from Dallas to Orlando to see my brother. At the halfway mark (about 500 miles), I'm bushed and look for a hotel. I checked in and was about to crash when I decided to take a look around Atlanta. Saw a billboard announcing John Mellencamp that night at the Omni. In a half hour. I headed out there, the scalpers had already made their $, and I got a ticket for five bucks off one of them who was leaving. Got in just in time for his opening song. To my surprise Texas legend Joe Ely's guitar slinger at the time (David Grissom) is now playing lead for Mellencamp. My ticket was for in the upper deck, but like I tend to do, I wanted to weasel down to the floor. Very tight security there. But a guy came up to the mezzanine to get a beer, and he had his and his girlfriend's tickets in his pocket. I said I'd buy his beer if he'd let me borrow his other ticket stub to get down to the floor. He says sure. I'm now on the floor standing about 20 from the band. Heavenly. Played every single one of his hits. Best moment: Mellencamp pulls some guy out of the audience, hands him a guitar, and trusts this nonmusician to play the couple of notes in "Jack & Diane" that go "da da da da da..." The guy aces it and the place goes nuts.
What an awesome story! When I first read what you wrote about David Grissom my brain read David Grisman. My mind exploded for a minute until I read it correctly 😂 I saw him a couple months ago in Cleveland and absolutely loved every second.
@@M4R1N4 He backs up the Chicks as well, along with Natlie's dad, Lloyd, on steel pedal.
Incredible conversation between two American legends.
John: Well Dave I invited you and you never respond
David: Yeah that sound like me.....
Man I love David Letterman
This is typical Dave Letterman.
I was reading your comment at the exact same time it happened
Too bad about the audio, I have some difficulty hearing and this is just too much room echo and background noise, but thanks for your effort
Jacob Dylan called Mellencamp an asshole from the stage. I have to believe him.
And they are sober!
Yes. Indeed. I'm glad you liked it! 😊

Great interview, too bad the audio is subpar, this deserves better
Carville!
great and everything but sound quality? Not so much.
Why is there someone stacking firewood in the background ??.
Terrible sound quality, volume level is too low
Wish the sound was better.
No mics for interview?
Too bad David and John were off mic.
Why doesn't Dave still have a late night show? I'm sure the ratings would be through the roof.
He was tired of it...😢
@@tammyharris11 I understand that completely but maybe just once or twice a week.
@@DuffyGabi People do change as they get old. I'm sure I'm not as cheery as I was in my 30s and beyond.
Sound is lacking on this to say the least. Hard to hear
Thank you for your perspective. I appreciate it! 🙂
Where is the 30 minute monologue on Trump?
I could help Dave with the ability to do math in your head on the fly. 38 years ago first Farm Aid.
He treats his fans ,and the government like crap,LITTLE JOHN RETIRE, Your politics are only for you ,because only people like you agree to it RETIRE
Everybody gettin older - *Can't hear what John is talkin about - bad audio
Illegal recording?
No. We contacted the Film Festival for guidance and approval.
After watching this, Now I would really like to know what the song "PINK HOUSES" really means,
The opposite of what most people think...think of the lyric "little pink houses, for you and me" and sing it with sarcasm.
Nicotine's a serious drug.
I always liked John, but when did the guy from the Fisherman's Friend commercial start doing interviews?
you mean Mr.Natural?
Lol he said at the beginning his son shaves his head annually every year.
Dave pretty much had the big bushy almost Santa Claus beard since he left TV.
Did he mention hitting Ben Orr.
Man it’s amazing how this crowd is…. They’re like robots or something. Something is wrong people.
Commie Cougar Mellonhead Camp.
Too bad with the sound, improve ursld, hon
Why doesn't letterman just retire?
He essentially is. 🙂 He can work if he wants to, play if he wants, sleep if he wants. 😴
Nice life!
Mr. Letterman is contractually obligated to five more seasons of
"The Barbara Gaines Show"
Never got the appeal? Mr. Mellencamp certainly did well with minimal talent.

Bore-ring
Dressed like Hobos . How weird is Dave trying to be? And , how uninteresting is this interview.
Having been Mellencamps nieghbor for a decade here in Monroe county. He is a conceited stuckup kick down on the poor pos in real life. Truth
@Chuck Hall does he have fences around his property?
@@ObamaFromKenya yes, along the road. Backside of property is open to lake Monroe
@Chuck Hall c'mon now, how can you say that? Isn't he all about the common man? I've read interviews with him saying it doesn't matter a person's background, education, wealth or whatever, he's approachable. I've heard he can be an ass and he'll even admit it, but conceited? Details?
Oh , oh ! Someone is gonna get twisted into a pretzel ...... I'll hold the jackets !
I can believe that. I watched him on Farm Aid one year and he gave a speech that was very odd and arrogant
Two Tools
if john thinks he's doing a performance and not a concert, he should stop playing his hits. He plays on avg. 17 songs and 12 of those are his biggest hits. He can't fill arenas that's why he's playing theatres.
John looks tired
He is, he played the night before
Hey , looks like Dave wore a syrup all these years ?
Can't stand Letterman
Stay retired !!!
He is rock and roll, now he may want to feel like he is broadway or theater but the fame and fortune he has was because of fans of his rock and roll. And what do rock and rollers do when they see you in concert???? They yell and scream your name out . I have seen him about 10 times and will not go to another concert. He does not seem like a bad guy, just a guy who is confused on who he is.
letterman is washed up wow that was hard to watch
So sad what he said about our government Farm aid. No BS from John. Appreciate his truth.
Great interview, the camera guy could of been better, And yes Dave Letterman you were the best on late night. And John Cougar just love 💕 you.🇨🇦
Mellencamp and Letterman do a one hour interview and politics is never mentioned. How refreshing!
Because unreality is so much more comforting. Do heroin s do you?
@@gatherdust4035 Stop doing drugs, or start
@@michaelcaraccia7819 which explains your trolling?
@@gatherdust4035 It’s so refreshing to always be realistic, remember just say no.
@@richardeast3328 you say no to reality? good for you but prolly not your delusions.
I love ❤ both these guys great interview 👏
So refreshing! Just two decent people meet up and talk in a friendly way sharing stories !!!
Wish it was microphoned better
Sound quality is atrocious.
What a beautiful conversation between two icons of our generation. THANK YOU for recording this moment in history and for sharing it with us!!
Our pleasure!
I sure do miss dave!! It was nice ro see him again
Ehhhhh....... you got any gum?
John is so hilarious 😂
When Dave asks John's daughter to punch him in the face...ohhhhh man. That's hilarious. John took it in stride too, he didn't flinch at all. He has to be at peace with what happened between him and his son.
If you dislike a person, why waste your time watching and making hateful comments?
I can not watch anything with letterman and his fake laughs…everything he says people just automatically laugh and I don’t get it?
Notice how Dave does not have any notes, yet they cover many fascinating subjects. It's a conversation, not an interview.
Thank you for your input. Dave is smart and a seasoned interviewer! 😊

wow, surprised dave could deal with his urinary control problem for a whole hour
John Cougar Menstral Cramp 😅
The best part of this video is the shitty audio.
