Really cute and down to earth happening. I wish there were more of these. Letterman is a great interviewer. John is honest and informative. Thanks to the person who recorded this. To anyone out there feel free to record. We appreciate it😊
♥️ Two Hoosiers that helped the 🌎....I love em both, always have and will......and there's really no place on Earth as pretty as Brown County in the Fall....... Bless these Men and thanx for the video..
John is a fab from the 80s good stuff! Saw Letterman right after 9/11 they were giving tickets away. Then the following year loved it both time! Btw they kept that theatre COLD! Lol! Funny men! Can’t believe his Moms still alive God Bless Her😎💙❤️
Thanks for sharing this video. HUGE FAN of John. He's intelligent, honest, humble, handsome, talented, funny, a humanitarian and sounds like a wonderful Father and now Grandfather. His music will live on. He's truly a gifted artist and glad he's shared his talent with us. HE'S HILARIOUS!
Thanks for recording and posting this. Dave was just the right guy to get an informative and fun interview from John. I happened to read the Paul Rees biography Mellencamp earlier this year and it was fun to hear him relate some of the same info but in his own voice and style.
A real conversation. No self promotion. No commercial references. No phones out. Just talking about life. Nice. And to think a supposed hard ass like John with no drinking and no drugs for most of his adult life. That’s a comforting thought as far as I’m concerned. Cause too many people waste a good chunk of their lives and act like assholes on that stuff. It’s too bad a guy like Tom Petty another legend got trapped by that shit.
John is like Brando... simply real..not perfect.. but real..and quite funny.. Glad Dave let him talk unlike Club Random.. where Bill needs to upstage his guests... Thanks John for being honest about Willie.. another legend. Could have gone another hour.. why these talks have to be so short...
When Dave asks John's daughter to punch him in the face...ohhhhh man. That's hilarious. John took it in stride too, he didn't flinch at all. He has to be at peace with what happened between him and his son.
I wanna see him in concert so bad man. Funny shit, me and my grandma got into when I was bout 14-15 and I thought I knew everything and she tells me I was conceived at a JCM concert 😂😂
😂😂 What 50 year olds have you been looking at? Lol. I was thinking he looks more like a skinny Santa, pushing 80. If you want to be amazed by someone that looks much younger than their chronological age, The Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar will be 76 in Oct. but he's still out there rocking!
33 years ago, I was driving from Dallas to Orlando to see my brother. At the halfway mark (about 500 miles), I'm bushed and look for a hotel. I checked in and was about to crash when I decided to take a look around Atlanta. Saw a billboard announcing John Mellencamp that night at the Omni. In a half hour. I headed out there, the scalpers had already made their $, and I got a ticket for five bucks off one of them who was leaving. Got in just in time for his opening song. To my surprise Texas legend Joe Ely's guitar slinger at the time (David Grissom) is now playing lead for Mellencamp. My ticket was for in the upper deck, but like I tend to do, I wanted to weasel down to the floor. Very tight security there. But a guy came up to the mezzanine to get a beer, and he had his and his girlfriend's tickets in his pocket. I said I'd buy his beer if he'd let me borrow his other ticket stub to get down to the floor. He says sure. I'm now on the floor standing about 20 from the band. Heavenly. Played every single one of his hits. Best moment: Mellencamp pulls some guy out of the audience, hands him a guitar, and trusts this nonmusician to play the couple of notes in "Jack & Diane" that go "da da da da da..." The guy aces it and the place goes nuts.
What an awesome story! When I first read what you wrote about David Grissom my brain read David Grisman. My mind exploded for a minute until I read it correctly 😂 I saw him a couple months ago in Cleveland and absolutely loved every second.
Lol he said at the beginning his son shaves his head annually every year. Dave pretty much had the big bushy almost Santa Claus beard since he left TV.
At 74, my still favorite song of his is Key West Intermezzo.
So sad what he said about our government Farm aid. No BS from John. Appreciate his truth.
PM Thank you for this !
I love ❤ both these guys great interview 👏
I sure do miss dave!! It was nice ro see him again
Excellent footage ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Love it or hate it, this is USA culture as I remember it. I enjoyed this.
Thanks both of you!❤😊
Brilliant interview. 😊
Without a doubt, David Letterman is the best in his field! And like John, I, too, no longer watch the late night talk shows. WE MISS YOU DAVE!!!!!
So refreshing! Just two decent people meet up and talk in a friendly way sharing stories !!!
Excellent conversation. Letterman is a spectacular broadcaster.
He really is. There's no one like him
I'm psyched to watch this interview between the two of you. LoVe you both!!
What a beautiful conversation between two icons of our generation. THANK YOU for recording this moment in history and for sharing it with us!!
Our pleasure!
Music transformed me after a spinal cord injury, broken neck and loss of a career. 💜💚
Life goes on....long after the thrill of living is gone
wow, hang in there friend, life is precious
Love this! Dave, I still make your Mom’s recipes! John, love you too!

This is great! Thank you.
Mellencamp and Letterman do a one hour interview and politics is never mentioned. How refreshing!
Because unreality is so much more comforting. Do heroin s do you?

Just saw John at the Beacon last week… he was the best he’s ever been
Kind of a great conversation! David Letter is amazing host !!!
Thanks for this!
I was in Seymour, Indiana a few weeks ago. Love John. He had a great band back in the day with Larry, Toby, Mike and Kenny.
Thank you so much for sharing this!

You're welcome.
thank you so much for filming & posting this!!
I'm in the process of shaving my head. I love it
Thank you . Very appreciative !!
You are welcome!
Love those Indiana boys❤
John is so hilarious 😂
I was brought to tears by the story of him and his father. This was excellent!
Thanks for uploading this!
This was fantastic!
What a cool interview
John is as handsome now as he was back then.Thank you for all your great music.
Love the paintings. How about The Manatou Art Gallery in Santa Fe NM? I think they would love to show them. Ask for Scott Stark . Thanks Sky

Thank you ❤So genuine
Your welcome
I love dave. Not enough silly anymore
Notice how Dave does not have any notes, yet they cover many fascinating subjects. It's a conversation, not an interview.
Thank you for your input. Dave is smart and a seasoned interviewer! 😊

THE SONG WRITERS , THE STORY TELLERS OF THE WORLD MR. JOHN C. FOGERTY & MR. JOHN C. MELLENCAMP
I wanna see him in concert so bad man. Funny shit, me and my grandma got into when I was bout 14-15 and I thought I knew everything and she tells me I was conceived at a JCM concert 😂😂
So, your grandma is also your mom?
John: Well Dave I invited you and you never respond
David: Yeah that sound like me.....
Man I love David Letterman
This is typical Dave Letterman.
I was reading your comment at the exact same time it happened
Jacob Dylan called Mellencamp an asshole from the stage. I have to believe him.
this new album Orpheus Descending is so beautifully powerful naked amazing... no, I'm not a critique but damn. he just gets better... and...
John is blessed, never lost that wonderful voice.
I'm happy you liked it!
yes, he's so blessed
If you dislike a person, why waste your time watching and making hateful comments?
Knowing the history between De Niro and Letterman , Dave’s appearance here at Tribeca comes as quite a surprise.
And they are sober!
Yes. Indeed. I'm glad you liked it! 😊

Too bad about the audio, I have some difficulty hearing and this is just too much room echo and background noise, but thanks for your effort
Wish it was microphoned better
Great interview, too bad the audio is subpar, this deserves better
Why is there someone stacking firewood in the background ??.
great and everything but sound quality? Not so much.
Carville!
Wish the sound was better.
Amen that night time TV sucks. My life is not been the same since Dave left...
Dave stayed Skinny. 👍
No mics for interview?
Sound quality is atrocious.
Why doesn't Dave still have a late night show? I'm sure the ratings would be through the roof.
He was tired of it...😢
@@tammyharris11 I understand that completely but maybe just once or twice a week.
@@DuffyGabi People do change as they get old. I'm sure I'm not as cheery as I was in my 30s and beyond.
Terrible sound quality, volume level is too low
I could help Dave with the ability to do math in your head on the fly. 38 years ago first Farm Aid.
Too bad David and John were off mic.
Best dressed homeless dude in America.
Sound is lacking on this to say the least. Hard to hear
Thank you for your perspective. I appreciate it! 🙂
John resembling Peter Falk. Tribeca multi million dollar real estate not for paupers.
Where is the 30 minute monologue on Trump?
Dave looks younger than his age. Looks like he is 50 at most.

wow, surprised dave could deal with his urinary control problem for a whole hour
The best part of this video is the shitty audio.

After watching this, Now I would really like to know what the song "PINK HOUSES" really means,
The opposite of what most people think...think of the lyric "little pink houses, for you and me" and sing it with sarcasm.
Everybody gettin older - *Can't hear what John is talkin about - bad audio
John Cougar Menstral Cramp 😅
its not the same, not seeing david letterman at night on his talk shows.
Could use a bit of depth
David Letterman ?
What? No cougar?!
Ehhhhh....... you got any gum?
Incredible conversation between two American legends.
Nicotine's a serious drug.
Illegal recording?
No. We contacted the Film Festival for guidance and approval.
Very entertaining, though after 6 minutes,my hearing suddenly got worse.

I always liked John, but when did the guy from the Fisherman's Friend commercial start doing interviews?
