I really appreciate how you didn't just focus on the technical portions of using the technology for testing, but you also covered lots of tedious aspects that are important for successful testing such as keeping a dedicated to file to save the data, ensuring proper time in the calendar year to test to get optimal results and charging the technology, these practical tips will definitely help me as I go through testing.
Hey Dr. Goodin! Really great video on the steps to performing testing. As someone who is still kind of new to testing I believe this helps me with knowing the detailed process and set up to how testing should be done. Even though I am on the sports performance/strength and conditioning coaching side of things I have had a lot of fun learning more about testing and getting to know what you are looking for with the different measurements and what not. I also love the clip at 6:44 of us testing with the legion player 🤣
San Diego Legion (Professional rugby) and Dr. Goodin are a great collaboration! This video is highly recommended for sports scientists and future sports scientists.
Great video that summated pre-testing steps for performance testing sessions. On a side note, I really like that you included the importance of charging the equipment! As someone who has had experience through my undergraduate years to present day with collecting data for athletes, I feel like this step can be so easily overlooked and can be the most detrimental to the testing process. Additionally, addressing the entire high performance team as to specifics for the testing session, data collection and delivery of data is critical. From a strength and conditioning perspective, having the support from the entire performance team helps ensure a well-integrated process to provide informative performance data.
Hey Dr.Goodin! I really enjoyed being able to hear all the components that go into these testing procedures. After attending a data collecting session, being able to see everything that went into it. It really put it into perspective how much really goes into the process! I’ve got to say, it was one of the coolest things I have gotten to experience, and seeing how the athletes performed was insane. Love the video!
Hey Dr. Goodin, one thing that you touched on in your video that I think is often overlooked is making sure that all your equipment is charged. In addition, the familiarization period with athletes on new testing modalities is extremely important. I think that you did a great job of explaining how to introduce these tests or movement patters to the athletes. More specifically working with the coaches and working these movements into practice to familiarize the athletes.
Hell Dr. Goodin. I enjoyed your video. Thank you for creating this video for us to go back and reference. I think that this video creates an excellent checklist; to ensure that the testees are fully prepared for testing and data collection. Being new to utilizing some of the equipment you showed in your videos, this video is highly beneficial. I am new to exercise testing, it's pretty easy to miss a step due to the various parts in preparation and during testing. Thank you for the testing breadcrumbs.
Great video Dr. Goodin! Especially your point on leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for gathering data. It may seem redundant to have an analog record of key metrics, but you never know when there's a problem with transferring the data to the cloud. In regards to helping athletes familiarize themselves with tests, you mentioned that it may not be possible to have a whole separate session and may need to include some practice rounds in a standardized warm up. What are some telltale signs that a learning effect occurred when looking at the data?
Hi Jacob, my questions are; why develop tests that require performance when we don't know if from a biomechanical/morphological point of view there is something that prevents it? (e.g. alterations in the length of the lower limbs or functional limitations, altered muscle rigidity, muscle imbalances, etc.). Furthermore, why not try to develop tests that respect the specific sport gesture (in which sport do you jump like in the squat jump?) and the performance model (shoe range used in sports practice)?
Hey Doctor Goodin! One quick question that I had was based on the use of research data collected from sports teams. If you have a sport team such as the SD legion do you need to ask permission from the teams manager in order to use the data for scientific research? I know you mention in the checklist that you need to know before you go into the testing what the data will be used for either scientific research or a repository. I'm curious what the rules are around sharing team data since that information is probably sensitive and could hurt the team if such data is shared publically. Do teams need to release authorization for a school or researcher to use the data publically? Hopefully that question makes sense. Thanks see you in class!!
hi sir, i am lathishkar from INDIA i am doing Bsc sports biomechanics i am started watching ur lectures a month and half ago, these videos are so good and well, i admire them. i like to study under you in your university. is there any opportunity for me under to join and try admire your knowledge.
Be honest, have you ever forgotten to charge your gear before a big testing session??? I am into that idea but since it's part of my work I'd prefer to keep it to UA-cam unless there's a way I can start my own channel on the Chinese version of UA-cam? I love the idea of reaching more people with sport science education
Dr: I passed my CSCS earlier today and wanted express my gratitude for your content. It was integral in my success.
YESSSS. Congratulations Carl!

Great video for us aspiring sport scientists, thank you Dr. Goodin!
thank you so much for this video you are the best.
Hey Dr are you making more videos for the CPSS?
Soon
...ish
Always my goal to crank content out faster but I'm still learning to balance it with my teaching load. Thanks for your patience 💪
