    This video was so fascinating and I appreciate how detailed you were in describing factors and considerations that go into testing. I love how you get to think outside of the box and cater or adjust to each athletes unique needs.

    This video was helpful in explaining all the different factors that go into each test and was helpful in covering all the common types of tests for certain parameters of physical fitness. All the examples you incorporated from different sports and different types of athletes help clarify which test best for what type of athlete/sport.

    I think it is important for athletes to be aware of their body composition and primarily hydration. I think it is essential to measure this and to stress the importance of stability and balance to help prevent lower limb injury in sports. Not a lot of coaches focus on this aspect and we are seeing a lot of knee, hip, and ankle injuries

    I am very interested regarding speed tests and finding out the correct balance and volume when performing these tests. I feel that it is important to tests different distances in regards to a shorter-distance track and field sprinter, but we don't want the athlete to fatigue in such a state where their times get decreasingly worse.

    I agree with your preference of a 1RM over a 3RM. It can be difficult to pick a weight that is truly someone's 3RM and they will probably pick something that is too light or too heavy which would not be safe.

    Thank you DR. Jacob for your contribution towards explaining these topics. If you test endurance you should test till failure. So how it is mentioned set up test (muscular endurance) is in one minute.? Regards

    • @DrJacobGoodin
      @DrJacobGoodin  2 роки тому

      You're welcome and good question! Muscular endurance can be tested to failure or for a longer duration (usually 1 minute or longer). A 1-minute rep max test can still be muscular endurance because performance is limited not by cardiovascular or force production ability, but by the muscle's ability to continually generate sufficient force.

    Very curious what tests / fitness and parameters would be good for older generation (40-65 years old)

    • @DrJacobGoodin
      @DrJacobGoodin  2 роки тому

      Mostly the same to be honest, if you have access to the equipment. However, if you're concerned about being able to hit maximum intensities without sustaining injury, you may try a load-velocity profile where you plot your bar speed at incremental loads. That way you don't have to do any rep maxes, but still have objective data to train with.

    Unrelated question, but for sports performance, in a weight room is it necessary to have a leg press machine?

    • @DrJacobGoodin
      @DrJacobGoodin  2 роки тому +1

      Not necessary by any means. A leg press is a great tool, but if the weight room is dedicated to sport performance, then there are a lot of other implements that should take precedence over a leg press. A belt squat would be a better use of the space, but even without it, most sport performance S&C programs make use of barbell and dumbbell squat/lunge/hinge variations for the majority of their lower body strength development
