Now 61 years old, I came of age listening to Bonnie Raitt play juke joints in the desert....listening to Susan now is like steppiing into a time machine. SWEET....PLEASE NEVER STOP!
carryin on Bonnie's legacy , , , and then some (she cleans the floor with Angel from Montgomery - never thought in a million years someone could give it more soul than Bonnie, but this woman - she's got the CHOPS!) heaven on earth .... keep on spreadin your gift, Ms. Tedeschi!
Was just turned on to this amazing talent named Susan Tedeschi. Hearing these songs for the first time. She's got that soulful 'lived a million years' voice I cant get enough of. See ya, work week.
I first head this around the mid '60s as Fontella Bass's B side to the single "Rescue Me". Not many folks would be wise to cover it, but Ms Tedeschi more than does it justice. I'm really glad she did it. Now maybe more folks will become familiar with it.
Great song ... first heard it on the Mother Earth album Make a Joyful Noise (1969), on which Tracy Nelson does a good job, but this is something else again! Go, Susan!
Noob here. I started listening to WBGO on the radio. I loved so many of their songs I just had to find out who Tedeschi Trucks is. I'm. In. Love. New subbie. ps funny thing is I never knew I like the blues.
i would like to hear more soloing. when i first started listening to her in around 1999 or 2000, she did more soloing and as a girl guitar player, it was so rare for me to hear girls play single note solos and creative licks, i was just hard up because i didn't mind being the only girl i knew ho played "boy" guitar, but somehow when i found out there was another girl who could play, i loved to hear them. When she got with Derek Trucks she seemed to stop playing solos completely. i stoped looking for her on you tube. When i first started listening to her, there was one other skilled girl player i knew of, Sue Foley, but both of them, they started off playing great guitar and as time went by both of them increasingly wore clothes that showed a lot of skin and less and less emphasis on playing . guys don't show a lot of skin when they get up to play guitar, it would draw attention away from the music, gender doesn't seem to be what they're trying to show, they are showing music, so, there's a lot of them and i can just listen to them, but just saying, i don't think of Sue as a guitar player anymore, she she has a great voice and i think of her as singer and as an attractive woman. Ho hum, same old fashioned stuff. but if it works for her and she makes more money doing that, i'm happy for her. i only listened to this one you tube video. I first started with a version of Don't Think Twice, but i like Dylan's version better. i will try one or two more, but while i love Dylan's guitar playing, i don't think of him as a guitar player, mean, that's not what people go to see him for, and that's not why people buy his albums. i don't want to have to dig really deep to find the guitar plaiyer in an artist i went looking for guitar playing in. In this song, she had a guy who did a sax solo playing blues. i was just thinking, why can't she do a solo playing blues on guitar? maybe she does it at the end, i didn't listen all the way to the end.
At 3:50 Susan just digs into a note like she was born with a guitar in her hands. Then a fabulous little arpeggio run. She plays. She sings. I would wash and wax her guitar cord just to be in the same stratosphere for a few minutes with her. People compare her to Bonnie Raitt and Janice Joplin. Bonnie doesn't sing anymore; just talks through the lyrics. Joplin had a higher "scream" but Susan beats the other parts of anybody. Watch the Red Rocks video. She gets off some stuff that will make your hair stand up.
she's playin the real shit which is far more glorious than all the glamor and the glitz crap in the music business. She's real and the shallow markets can't handle what is real. Earnin' her notes and earnin' her way.
Nice recovery from that flub @3:52 at the end of the solo and I liked the acknowledging smile she gave afterward, just before she started singing. It happens to everyone. :)
The great Fontella Bass song which was a hit wayback in the mid 1960s. It's great to hear it again done so well. Search out Fontella's version..you have to hear it to believe it.
I love you music, The first song I ever heard of yours that hooked me was "It Hurts So Bad", but you don't have a video on your site. Can you please add this song to your list. Sincerely, E. Weaver

I never thought I'd see another blueswoman like Bonnie... and then along came Susan.
She deserves more respect in the music world than she gets. This woman is AWESOME! Have listened to her for a long time!
Remember when it was just her and her 3 piece in Austin just awesome.
