I sat throught this trial in the courtroom and the photos of the crime scene and her injuries were brutal. The fact that his DNA was under her fingernails was the deal breaker for me as a Retired NYPD Police Detective this case was solid no matter what some think. Thanks for covering this case.

The NYPD and that Precinct are known for planting evidence, this kid did not have a reason to commit this crime plus as a retired Officer answer this question, is it normal for a murder suspect to watch Cartoons for hours during a interrogation? Also being that he was mentally challenged it was clear he was coached during the interrogation. Not to mention that New York police swabbed hundreds of Black men, illegally used a private DNA lab, and then concealed their tactics.

@@savvy1856 Oh really and doesn't seem strange too 🤔 Cops got desperate and got the wrong guy everyone can see that. You don't let a killer watch Cartoons for hours unless you know he's mentally challenged and you can get him to admit to a crime he did not commit, furthermore during the interrogation he kept saying he wanted to go home which definitely indicates he was told that he would be going home at some point, Detectives don't tell Murderers that they will be going home, if he was admitting to a homicide that he committed why would he even think that he was going home? The whole interrogation was coerced and if you claim information wasn't released to the public I think it's past time to be released to kill any doubts until then FIND THE REAL KILLER!

    • @savvy1856
      @savvy1856 Рік тому

@@Jitbo561 The real killer is right where he belongs. None of the nonsense you are spewing about cartoons and not going home have a damn thing to do with the physical evidence. Chanel Lewis' skin was found under her finger nails. Chanel Lewis told police he punched her and cracked her tooth, that was true. Know where that fragment of tooth ended up? In Chanel Lewis' hand. That was corroborated by a doctor at the hospital his father took him to after the incident. The father was the one who brought it up to the police. Chanel Lewis told the police exactly where her body was because he dragged it off the main trail in the weeds. Chanel Lewis described in detail where the puddle was that he dragged her through as he was dumping her body. Chanel Lewis described in detail what she was wearing. Described that she had a white cell phone in her hand when he encountered her. He admitted that she fought with him. Chanel Lewis was a known hater of females. He once asked a teacher in his school if he could bring a knife the next day so he could kill all the girls. He was (and is) a sick, violent monster who now resides in prison and will for the rest of his life. I hope they put him in a cell with the other rapists so he can get a taste too.

I live in the area at the time. The killer’s family and some activists tried to turn this into a racial case.
Howard Beach is a very old school, Italian neighborhood. It’s mostly quiet, conservative and close knit.
East New York, where the killer is from, is right next to it but the complete opposite (mostly black, lots of housing projects, a busy mall, etc). The 2 neighborhoods are only separated by the Belt Parkway.
These “activists” were claiming the NYPD was just trying to pin this on any random black man and racially profiled Chanel because he was roaming around Howard Beach, had a learning disability, etc.
Reality is he was indeed roaming, had no business going into people’s driveways, whether he was black, white or purple. So yes, he stood out and the cops went after him to investigate further. He voluntarily gave his DNA and confessed.
He is exactly where he should be.
RIP, Karina. May her family find peace. ❤

Awe, she's absolutely gorgeous! I hope she's at peace and that her loved ones get closure. It's a shame that such awful things happen to people 😔 😞 💔, and leave their friends and families with such vile and horrific "memories" of cruelly either having to read the autopsy reports or court proceeding reenactments, confessions, etc.
I can't even imagine what a nightmare going through such a thing must be. Some people are dealt such an unfair hand.
I have 5 living daughters and, sadly, lost 1 before she was born. Sometimes I feel so scared that because I have so many, it may increase the likelihood something horrificly tragic is going to happen to 1 of them. I get so worried that sometimes I almost hope I won't live too long because I know there's no way I could handle it if someone hurt 1 of them. I know it's irrational to feel that way but sometimes I can't help it...we don't get to choose our intrusive thoughts.
My heart goes out to anyone who has been a victim, survivor, or relative/friend of violent crime. I wish everyone who reads this love 💘, hugs 🫂, ladybugs 🐞, and pugs 🐖(closest animal).

Why would they include a description of what she was wearing unless she was a missing person or a Jane Doe? I’ve never heard or read any story covered by the media about a murdered person and giving a description of what said person was wearing unless they are (as already stated) a Jane Doe case because it would be completely irrelevant.

MaccaBased: What you are seeing is a young man with mental health issues. A man that had a history of hatred towards women. Some that were family members and some that were strangers. He once asked a teacher at his school if he could bring a knife to school the next day. The teacher asked "why?" He said, "because I want to kill all the girls." Just because he has diminished intelligence doesn't mean he can't kill someone and be violent. The reason he was in "the weeds" that day is because he had an argument at home with female family members and he went there as an escape, which he did quite often according to what he told detectives. The right man is in jail.

@@dvstcod Your comments are all made with an absence of knowledge of factual evidence in the case. You DID NOT see the entire interrogation. In the FULL interrogation Chanel Lewis made comments and admitted to facts only someone at the scene would have personal knowledge of. For example: He knew that she was dragged from a well-worn path in the weeds (or a trail) and hidden in higher weeds to keep her out of sight. He knew there was a large puddle in the vicinity where he encountered her and what the shape of that puddle was. He knew specific details as to the clothing she was wearing. He knew she was carrying a white cell phone. He told detectives he punched her in the mouth (Karina suffered a chipped front tooth) - and the next day when his father took him to the hospital to treat injuries to his hand, the doctor removed that portion of Karina's tooth from Chanel Lewis' hand. The doctor did not know exactly what it was at the time but corroborated subsequently that it was very likely a piece of human tooth. There was HUMAN SKIN under Karina's nails at the autopsy! How could they have planted Chanel Lewis' SKIN under her nails when they didn't find him until MONTHS LATER?

If a strange man was in YOUR BACK YARD with a crowbar, I guarantee that would raise your suspicion level through the roof! Especially when that person is wearing long pants, a long sleeve jacket and a wool hat (all black clothing) in the middle of the summer and it's 80's degrees out! I can agree about the phonecall potentially being racially bias, but the phenotyping, not so much. I get what she's saying "why did they decide to persue the black dna on the body"... well, because its the only dna they had. The killer coukd have been a white guy and the dna they were analyzing was just a coincidence... but i. That case, collecting the white killers dna still woukdnt have meant anything since they didnt find andly on the body to compare. Police have limited resources, and alot of people to cOmb through, the first round is always gonna be narrowed down as much as you can just to conserve resources, then expanded later if they dont recieve a result. You wouldnt call it sexist that the police didnt ask for women to give their dna just in case the killer was a woman with androgen insensitivity. Even finding a DNA match only proves that so.eone was somehow in contact with the victim. They knew she was in contact with a black male, they looked for a black male. He could have been her boyfriend, he could have been her cab driver, he coukd have been her fitness trainer. Dna doesnt tell you that, the rest of the evidence does, so, no, i dont think starting the search looking for a black man based on phenotyping is racial profiling in and of itself.

He did it. He mentioned that he broke her front tooth to the investigators. It wasn’t mention before, that I noticed.

@mythoughtsnotyours.8140: And do you know where that piece of her tooth ended up? Wedged in Chanel Lewis' hand! That fact was corroborated by a doctor his father took him to see after the incident occurred.

What a beautiful young lady. I’m just sad that she was taken from this earth so sudden. I’m no detective but my gut is telling me that kid had nothing to do with this murder. Something just isn’t right.
