      Elliot Blair was my Public Defender I didn't have a long time knowing him but his vibe make me considered as a friend he was helping me out in any way he could he was a very nice person and was very passionate about his work he was helping me in my case and tragically he was gone it hurt me really bad when I saw it in the news but I believe that he was murdered or set up by the same police officers that has stopped that same day I believe that Elliot was being kidnapped and he fought back and I do believe the authorities in Mexico are all corrupted!

    Im from South America, and unfortunately in many places where something dodgy happens to tourists and there is no information coming out, there’s either the police or the organized crime involvement. When they aren’t involved, usually the police will go the extra mile to show the media that they are doing all they can, or, the organized crime will get who ever was responsible and deal with them on theirs terms, because they don’t want the police investigating them and messing their business up. Anyway, I feel so sorry for the family, may they get their answers soon

      Mexico is the perfect place to commit a crime. 1. There's a lot of crime already, so it's easy to sneak a story in and shift the attention to the corrupt cops. 2. The police aren't properly trained so the scene can easily be ruled as mishandled and again shift blame to a coverup. 3. It's another country with different jurisdictions, which a lawyer knows very well. She definitely needs to be looked at more

    I have a situation that happened to a friend of mine , when he was on a trip to Mexico about 20 years ago. His name is Jason , he is a successful business owner. He was driving a new truck at the time. He had only had the truck for about a month. Anyway, him and a friend were pulled over for ,” suspicious of selling drugs.” Jason doesn’t speak Spanish but was able to understand that much. They arrested them both and said they were going to take the truck in “ to search it for drugs.” After being in jail for several days , Jason was told ,” they could be released but would have to leave the truck.” The alternative was to stay until they were ,” done with the truck.” Yet , couldn’t be told how long that would take. Jason and his friend came home. He never saw that truck again but was just happy to be free. He said he would never go to Mexico again. He said his jail time was traumatic. Oh and incase you’re curious, no there were no drugs , they were not selling or buying drugs.

I find that in other countries especially Mexico and parts of tourist area. There are so much corruption especially with the case of shanquilla Robinson whose case is still open. With the 5 people that she went on a trip with and killed her in her hotel room at the resort They were staying at. it's so sad that they have so much government corruption and cover-ups because they're all in it together paid off by the higher ups.

      that literally happens in the US though. if you get pulled over all they have to do is say they suspect you of a crime and they can take all of your stuff and you can't fight back. for example, if you're carrying $2,000 in cash they can say that seems suspicious and just take it and you can't do anything about it. it's called civil asset forfeiture.

They said they had to confiscate everything he had with him so they took his money that was from his check he had just cashed & had proof of it. They cared less & took his money & even after all other charges were dropped since it was aspirin they still kept his money. This is the exact thing that happened to me. Years ago I was dating a guy who was in a band in Peoria AZ. I flew out from my home town in RI to go on a drive to Mexico for a weekend. He had a nice car for the time era…At the time there was no fancy gps so we had our directions for the resort saved on our laptop. We drove through the boarder as we made our way to the Mexican resort we were so excited to stay in….immediately we were pulled over and told to drive behind a building. Two cops pulled us out. One told my ex to give him his wallet while the second stared at me quietly. He said we didn’t have our seatbelts on- which is why he pulled us over. Lies. )3 took the laptop out of the front seat near where I was sitting (it was out because we were using the save directions on it). Then asked if I was his wife- he said, gf. He could see we were headed to a resort from the maps on the screen . “She’s very pretty.. if you’d like to have her company at the resort you’ll have to give us $500”. I started sobbing. The second cop started laughing and touched my hair. My ex told him to take anything he wanted- just leave us our id’s and the car and we will not say anything. They looked into the car and in the back seat of the little sports car (Nissan Z, it had just come out that year) was his acoustic guitar. They took that, all of my jewelry (nothing expensive, but sentimental from my late grandmother), all our cash which was about $300ish dollars. They told him to get back in the car. The second cop stayed standing with me. The first told him he is going to give him his keys back- but if we report or say anything he knew where we were going to be. Then, the second cop pushed me back into my seat- but grabbed my chest as he did. I was so scared I had actually peed myself. They noticed and both started laughing. They slammed our doors shut and took off. We were traumatized. We were still 2 hours from our resort. The whole ride we were so scared to be pulled over again- we would have nothing if we were. We checked in. We said nothing. We stayed that night and then left as soon as the sun came up. We got to the boarder- and after we crossed back reported what happened. There was nothing we could do. Nothing. We were too scared to say anything in Mexico for good reason. We were lucky- but to this day I have night terrors from this incident. This happens. It’s real. Please everyone- be careful.

Probably both start hitting him and in his panic he was able to shut the door behind him to protect her. I bet they intended to kill them both but couldn't get back in the room so they drug him down under the balcony and got out of there before they were seen by someone else. In my mind that's how it all can be explained him just getting out of shower half dressed no pants and most bathroom doors are right next to the doorway of the hotel. If he was able to close the door after he was first hit his last outstanding act of kindness was protecting her because I think they intended to go in and kill them both. Mexico is so shady and we have no protection even if we are Americans they simply do not care and know they can get away with most anything even murder. A few notes from someone who has used pretty litter:
    It is actually very messy in my experience. We had mats under all litter boxes and we were still sweeping / vacuuming litter from all over the house.
    It also doesn't do much for smell like it claims. I eventually had to switch to a new litter because the smell from the pretty litter made me throw up everytime I tried to clean their boxes.
    The company was also AWFUL about shipping. We never got our new bags on time, and a few times we straight up never got them at all. We always had to use the litter longer than we wanted because their shipping system was so bad
    I myself would never recommend anyone use it, but i hope those who do have a better experience than I did

    So I grew up in SoCal and we frequented TJ often. Last time I went was like 20+ years ago, but that time was the time we experienced issues with the Mexican police. My mom and grandma are immigrants to US, my GMA has dual citizenship and my mom has a green card. They were asked if they were us citizens on the way back to California, my mom said no, but wasn't able to finish, they took her, my gma and my cousin back into Mexico. We had their papers in the car in California, but there ny siblings and I were in California and my mom in Mexico. My dad was at work and my aunts were visiting. So a bunch of kids and women. It took hours and about $1000.00 to get them back over the boarder.
    In this case I think the cops were invovled, I think they hired some thugs to go collect on some money, they got him out of the room, beat him up and threw him over the stairwell. As for him being face down, they said that people had already been there and processed the scene and determined he was dead, so it wouldn't surprise me if they moved the body at some point.

Not at all implying that *this* is what happened here, but tragic, seemingly impossible accidents happen all the time.

I had 4 drinks over a 9 hour period and was following the 1 drink per hour rule that you mentioned. My BAC was .19. My experience with dealing with this DUI has taught me so much about the impacts of alcohol and at the end of the day, it is truly so different for everyone. I think this information is important to share so that each individual recognizes their responsibility with determining the impacts of alcohol on their system, specifically. I didn’t know this until I was arrested, maybe if I did I would have been more vigilant. Now I carry a mini breathalyzer and I’ve learned that if I have one drink, I am at the legal limit. This hotel is full of American tourists every weekend. Someone would’ve heard a fight going on. It was either an accidental fall or the wife push him over. Her behavior after the death was extremely questionable.

    Oh my goodness, this is so shocking It’s a lesson not to go to corrupt countries. Stay in places that you know. My son went to Thailand and had a similar experience - he had hired a scooter and was pulled over and accused of having illegal substances (which he didnt). He gave them all the money he had on him to get away from them. It can be a sad, bad world. Mexico is off my list of places to go. Just saying 🇬🇧

    The fact that the couple were lawyers may have ended up spooking the original outlaw cops who did not want to be reported. They may have resorted to murder to keep the story quiet?

    My parents are both from Mexico and growing up and taking vacations and going through the Mexico border my dad was always prepared with cash to give them because it happened every time we traveled there. So yes it’s very common, they call it a “mordida” meaning (a bite). Unfortunately we were used to their extortion habits. 😞 Such a sad story and thank you for covering.

    Going into Rocky Point I was told 300.00 cash or they would take my car. In Juarez I was taken to an atm to withdraw cash but with Bancomer it was a 100.00 limit so the cop took that and a bottle I had bought at Ueta for the people we were visiting. It felt so bad. One time at a checkpoint coming back to Juarez from Janos the MP there stopped us and got us out and made scary jokes about keeping me. Ay yai yai.

    I think them telling the cops that they were attorneys was the wrong move. They knew to expect more cash and came back to get it

    • @RachelShannon
      @RachelShannon  Рік тому

      Yeah I’ve seen others comment this and I totally see it. I can see how cops would feel more entitled to their money if they thought them telling them they were lawyers was a threat or something

    It is hard to imagine how and why a person or persons could have accosted him and beaten him in his room at least without his wife, and even other guests, not noticing. And even then, why place his body outside, where witnesses could easily see?
    Perhaps someone was already waiting in their room hiding somehow. But still, how could he beat/kill/remove/toss his body off the balcony without the wife waking up?
    I think accident may be a real possibility. Could someone at the hotel have put some drug in his drink, that didn't kick in until he got back to his room, like LSD, and he jumped off or fell off the balcony??

    It’s so sketchy that police in these countries ask for exorbitant amounts of money from American tourists. That’s not how law enforcement should be working. It absolutely is extortion. If you personally can stand your ground, especially if you know Spanish, tell them how it is and that you will contact the US Embassy to resolve the problem. But above all if you are fearing for your safety, remember money is just money and LIFE is SO much more important than any amount of money!

    • @RachelShannon
      @RachelShannon  Рік тому

      Yes i agree! It’s sad because part of me thinks standing up to them is too risky. But at the same time, how else can they be stopped unless everyone works together to stop it? Such a tricky situation.
