There's no point wasting time with normal healing if it wasn't going to work anyway. Might as well use the spirit water for even the smallest chance of working. @@lunarlove9674Yes. They admitted it during one of the dvd commentary interviews. They remembered it by the time they got to Katara and Zuko's moment with it at the book end.
I actually don’t think katara even thought about the spirit water at that moment, I think she thought about it only after the fact and was possibly kicking herself over forgetting to use it. I think this is also why she even brings it up with zuko, she remembered it later and so it was on her mind when zuko told her a little about his feelings towards his scar.
I believe the Creators said that there had to be a spiritual damage for it to work, and given that Azula killed Aang in The Avatar State, there was a spiritual component. Whereas Jet was just physically killed.
The writers forgot about the spirit water Pakku gave Katara, that’s why Jet died. In the video game, Jet is saved though so perhaps that was their attempt to “fix” it.
For ppl wondering why pakku didn't give her a bigger vial, apparently it's because spirit water is either non-renewable or takes an extremely long amount of time to produce. Meaning that you can't just take a bucket of spirit water out of the pool and replace it with a bucket of regular water. You'd just be diluting the rest of the water in the pool.
I think she felt his internal organs were fucked in a way that water healing just wouldn’t fix. That’s a simpler and more likely explanation than everything this guy just said.
It also could be she just didn't have time to think about it. And also if she didn't know how to heal him regularly for whatever reason it might've been wasted on him. She only thought to offer the water to Zuko after spending a bit of time with him. Aang's situation obviously she didn't have time to do it right away but when they were safe she used it, though it might've been in her head to use it already which is why she didn't leave him.
My head canon has been that she carried it around for so long, not wanting to consider it as an option due to its rarity, that she honestly forgot she had it and only realized afterwards what she could have done. And that was why she was so eager to use it for whatever next possible use she could find, just to be rid of the emotional burden.
You guys forget that 2 seconds after Katara sees over the lakes (referring to Jet's plan to blast the dam), she is in tears after they finally fly with Appa. It's kind of a hint that she knows Jet has already gone there. Also, someone mentioned here that Jet's archer friend throws an arrow somewhere unclear (no kill intended scene because it's Nicklodeon) after Team Avatar leaves, as a hint that he would've shot Jet to "ease" his pain
I think she offered it to Zuko because she thought this might help their cause to stop the war. She doesn’t believe that Zuko would join them but at least Zuko would be thankful enough to stop chasing them and hopefully give some support on their journey
I dont care what anyone says, i will always feel bad for jet, no matter how many hate him, when he came back the 2nd time he had good intentions and wanted to help but got screwed big time, he was right about iroh and zuko being firebenders, but still got brainwashed and died at the end, not to mention his sad childhood He might be the person who suffered the most in all of avatar
I think she just didn't think about it at the time. She brought up the sacred water with Zuko because they spent time conversing and remembered it when Aang was mortally wounded because of that conversation. She found Jet mid battle with the enemies close behind and Appa on the other side, with Jet himself telling them to move on. She literally did not have the time to consider options...
I would also argue that she didn't think of it at the time. It's never come up since the northern water tribe, and in that moment, adrenalin would be pumping, and it's possible she forgot about it in that moment.
Spirit water is literally a last chance solution. They knew jet for a literally a super short amnt of time. I wouldn’t expect katara to think “lemme use this one time only healing water on a random dude when I could use it on the avatar if he gets hurt” Me personally, I’m tellin jet I don’t even get the water
I reckon Katara would’ve needed at least a whole JUG of spirit water to heal Jet, as he probably had multiple internal injuries plus internal bleeding all over. Aang’s main injury was to his spine which wasn’t that big & could be focused on. Not to mention the high stakes situation where the group was trying to figure out what to do next in either helping Jet or going after Appa.
Zuko before becoming good, still standards. Yes he was willing to kidnap and interrogate others who were associated with Aang but he agreed to leave Katara's village alone and he wouldn't end up killing an entire town.
It could also be she forgot, there's a lot going on. Jet dying, finding Appa, escaping the underground hideout. It not like katara has used it before so it's not surprising she just didn't think about.
If they adopt this scene into the live action series, I hope they make it a little more dark and have him coughing a little blood up. The gravity of it would make for a killer scene.
Even though katara tried to heal zuko’s scar he would’ve still betrayed her in a process of joining up with azula we all know that spirit water she used on Aang didn’t do much to heal his scar when azula killed him with lightning
The reason he isn’t saved is because he’s meant to die, outside the show it’s probably more obvious he wasn’t. In fact he’s supposed to be shot by his friend as a mercy kill (to ease his pain). But because it’s Nickelodeon they shoot the arrow else where (to still hint at it).
I think Katara is just straight up bad at healing. She didn't practice it because she was too busy fighting and, honestly, the spirit water saved Aang, not her. She is going by instict, she doesn't know how to heal things beyond bruises and mild burns.
The spirit water was not an instant heal ability, but Jet's injuries were bad enough that he was going to die right away. There is a vast difference between healing one lightning strike or a very old burn scar and healing what was likely damage to all the organs and veins in his chest and abdomen. It was not a choice not to heal Jet. it was just not something that she could do.
Lie, that would mean you were born in 1999. And this comment being here for a year would only make you 21. But you should be 25 if you were 6 when the show released.
@@ITSTITANSIX thats why i said around 6 because i literally don't care enough to try to look up exactly when it came out, all I remember is it being around when my sister was born and thats about it homie
I always just thought that she didn't carry it with her always until after the jet incident made it clear that they can get seriously hurt (I mean up to that point their tactics mostly involved stalling or pinning enemies until they could run away)
She might have been able to save Jet with Water Bending, if she had actually taken the time to study the healing techniques at the Northern Water Tribe. But instead of studying healing techniques, she chose to study offensive techniques, despite Pakku urging her to study with the women.
I think the bigger question is why didn't Longshot and Smellerbee ever show up after this episode? I know that those two appeared in the Avatar comics, and I think it was confirmed that the two were in a relationship, but why didn't they appear during the Day of Black Sun? Both Pipsqueak and The Duke joined, so why didn't Longshot and Smellerbee?
I kinda think that one was down to Katara’s limitations. Zuko had one scar, and Aang had one injury. The way Jet got hit, it’s possible most of his internal organs were lethally damaged. Even with the spirit water, I doubt just one person could heal everything Jet had going on before he died. Plus, when Katara used the spirit water on Aang, it just healed one area and then lost effectiveness. Maybe there wasn’t enough for Jet.
Spirit Water isn't an instaheal potion. The only reason it even helped Aang when he was killed was because he was the Avatar. The writers said for anyone else, it's basically normal water.
I always thought that part of the reason it worked the way it did is because the water had been infused with Aang's Avatar spirit as well as the ocean spirit; similar to how the Moon Spirit had been a bit infused with Yue and she could give back that life, the sliver of spirit water gave Aang that bit of life back, enough to not technically be dead anymore.
I dislike these kind of videos because they mislead the audience. Katara was a great healer she had a natural talent before she went to the water tribe. Healers feel a persons chi path and they can tell how much damage is done to a person even when it’s fatal and that’s what happened to jet that’s why she said this is bad she couldn’t heal him so he died. A lot of people should buy avatar dvds so they can watch and listen to the audio commentary by the creators because the headcanons have People saying all kinds of things
No one seems to realize that it’s not a matter of katara having to save it for one person, it’s a choice she made! That water ain going anywhere!!! Master P didn’t say it was a one shot all he said is “ this is water from the spirit oasis, it has special properties, don’t lose it”. She could have technically healed anyone with it over and over
Maybe not as Aang was flat out electrocuted and very close to death so it's possible that he sustained some nerve or bone damage while recovering. Plus it also have affected his equilibrium ad there's one scene he faints
She has the spirit water that she was told can heal someone on the brink of death so why wouldn't she try? it's so out of character for katara to not do everything she can to try and save someones life and she was literally about to use just to try and heal zuko's scar but she's not gonna try to save a life? it's bad writing
I really don't understand why they just killed him off if it wasn't gonna be relevant in the slightest, he had so much potential and they completely wasted his character for absolutely no reason
The Dai Li were hot on their trails. I think Katara could've helped Jet quite a bit, but there just sadly wasn't enough time. I've never considered the point about the spirit water, though; that is very, very sad she didn't think to use it to save his life but did offer to use it on Zuko to heal a scar. Like wtf? I don't care what anyone says; ATLA did Jet dirty. He redeemed himself by saving Aang from Long Feng, but they later disrespect his memory anyway in The Southern Raiders.

There's no point wasting time with normal healing if it wasn't going to work anyway. Might as well use the spirit water for even the smallest chance of working.
And FYI, the spirit water wasn't used during those weeks of healing Aang. It was used to revive him immediately after the attack, and then it was all used up. The weeks after was just regular water.
Nah Jet was tired of the torment and wanted Peace
Jet was likely bleeding internally from crushed ribs puncturing all his organs. I think they can heal damaged tissue and help circulate blood but they still have limits. They would need a surgeon to open him up and remove the splintered bone fragmants so it could heal properly.
She literally said “this isn’t good”
Clearly she knew he was dying
She didn't heal Jett because, quite frankly, she realized he was too far gone to save.
She resurrected someone
@user-rj5hz2ct6x Aang wasn't that injured yeah he was shot by lightning but unlike Jet his injuries were heal able unlike Jets whose injuries were internal injuries the kind that can't be healed by Katara. A spinal injury can be healed but multiple injuries to different organs not the same thing and despite healing Aang he was still unable to reenter the Avatar State and was left with a nasty scar on his back and not to mention they were rushing to escape from Long Feng and the Dai Li. So she wouldn't have been able to heal him in time.
@@LjCast-b6q a single path of lightning going from the middle of your back to your foot is not nearly as much stuff needing healed as getting your entire chest cavity rearranged
"Severe injuries" a.k.a. death
the REAL reason is that the writers forgot about the spirit water while working on that episode. Seriously.
i feel a bit robbed now.
No way, really?
@@lunarlove9674 I saw somewhere that the creators said that, not positive it's true though
Then aang wudda died
@@lunarlove9674Yes. They admitted it during one of the dvd commentary interviews. They remembered it by the time they got to Katara and Zuko's moment with it at the book end.
It doesn't "take weeks to heal severe injuries", it brought Aang back to life basically. I he had to heal the rest on his own.
because they were pushed for time and Longshot told them to go. Was that not obvious?
Right was that not obvious?
I always assumed that was the reason 🤷🏻♀️. It sounds plausible
Basically he was too far gone to be saved 😔
If Toph learned bone bending. Jet could have survived
Even if bone bending was a thing, you can't bone bend feces back into ruptured guts or heal the ruptured organs.
I think when the stone hit Jet, it did so in a way that paralyzed him from the neck down.
"did Jet just die?" "you know, it was really unclear."
Even jet knew appa was more important 😭🙏🏽
“Wait, did he just die?”
“Eh, it was never really clear.😒😌” 😂
I think she offered it to Zuko because she thought this might help their cause to stop the war. She doesn’t believe that Zuko would join them but at least Zuko would be thankful enough to stop chasing them and hopefully give some support on their journey
I dont care what anyone says, i will always feel bad for jet, no matter how many hate him, when he came back the 2nd time he had good intentions and wanted to help but got screwed big time, he was right about iroh and zuko being firebenders, but still got brainwashed and died at the end, not to mention his sad childhood
He might be the person who suffered the most in all of avatar
I think she just didn't think about it at the time. She brought up the sacred water with Zuko because they spent time conversing and remembered it when Aang was mortally wounded because of that conversation. She found Jet mid battle with the enemies close behind and Appa on the other side, with Jet himself telling them to move on. She literally did not have the time to consider options...
We don’t know if jet died. It was never clear
I would also argue that she didn't think of it at the time. It's never come up since the northern water tribe, and in that moment, adrenalin would be pumping, and it's possible she forgot about it in that moment.
Katana is the most trusting member of the team
*ONCE*
Jet needed someone who actually knows how to heal.
This guy definitely shipped jet and katara
Yeah that last one got me scratching my head because I doubt she trusts Zuko more than jet to use the spirit water for him vs jet.
The dude was ground beef inside- how could she fix it🤣🤣
Poor Jet, died and buried beneath lake Logai
Fitting because he tried to bury part of the fire nation underwater…remember when he blew the dam?
Also, The spirit Water ONLY heals SPIRITUAL WOUNDS, not Physical ones
I love this breakdown
katara hated jet like the third most in the show (first most being mother murderer and second being zuko)
Ah yes, let me waste my free revive on a ex boyfriend who tried to kill me
If they adopt this scene into the live action series, I hope they make it a little more dark and have him coughing a little blood up. The gravity of it would make for a killer scene.
Because Longshot told them to go.
And you don't argue with Longshot.
You seriously think she purposely just let him die bc she didn't trust him but trusted zuko enough at that point to waste it on a scar?? 🤨
This show came out when I was around 6, I'm 20 now and I still refuse to believe he's dead, no one can convince me otherwise, they did him dirty bro 😭
You raise a good point sir that's something I never thought about
Zuko was an "i can fix him moment" for katara
A "Drink the goddamn potion!" moment.
They tried to retaliate for jet and died
"Why didn't Katara heal Jet?"
Because he was meant to die, is the most simple answer.
"katara no longer trusted jet" oh but she trusts zuko more?
Exactly not a good analysis lol
Spirit Water isn't an instaheal potion. The only reason it even helped Aang when he was killed was because he was the Avatar. The writers said for anyone else, it's basically normal water.
I always thought that part of the reason it worked the way it did is because the water had been infused with Aang's Avatar spirit as well as the ocean spirit; similar to how the Moon Spirit had been a bit infused with Yue and she could give back that life, the sliver of spirit water gave Aang that bit of life back, enough to not technically be dead anymore.
She specifically says she doesn't know if it'd heal the scar
Or the writers always intended for the spirit oasis water to be the key to heal the avatar after basically died.
When you realize a pet is better for the war then you:
No one seems to realize that it’s not a matter of katara having to save it for one person, it’s a choice she made! That water ain going anywhere!!! Master P didn’t say it was a one shot all he said is “ this is water from the spirit oasis, it has special properties, don’t lose it”. She could have technically healed anyone with it over and over
Aang also let Jet take the hit. The writers basically threw Jet into the shredder, and all of Team Avatar was like "gotta break some eggs"
She was ready to drop everything for jet fk katara
Thank you for this video. I've always wondered why!
With their type of healing it's only limited to what's on the surface but internally is a different story.
Maybe not as Aang was flat out electrocuted and very close to death so it's possible that he sustained some nerve or bone damage while recovering. Plus it also have affected his equilibrium ad there's one scene he faints
It's not that Katara chose to not heal Jet, she COULDN'T heal Jet because she's not all powerful like her fans believe her to be. Geez!
She has the spirit water that she was told can heal someone on the brink of death so why wouldn't she try? it's so out of character for katara to not do everything she can to try and save someones life and she was literally about to use just to try and heal zuko's scar but she's not gonna try to save a life? it's bad writing
We have an entire fountain of healing water. This is the tiniest vial we have.
hope it will be good and she will succeed heal the right in the right way 🤲🙏🤲
Another possibility, she was scared and worried for jet and in a panic state didnt think about the spirit water
Katara loved Jet but she couldn't help him without having a guilty conscience
I really don't understand why they just killed him off if it wasn't gonna be relevant in the slightest, he had so much potential and they completely wasted his character for absolutely no reason
I mean it has nothing to do with trust, atp of the story, she was ready a to save her enemies multiple times.
Jet wanted to die a hero rather than see himself become the villain again
"did Jet die?"
"You know it really wasn't clear "
Because they authors didn’t intend for him to be healed and survive.
No no you dug to deep. She saved the spirit water to heal her mom 😂😂😂
