I remember hours being spent on progressing horizontally, gathering all the ore along the surface first and then moving down after the whole layer was dug up. That’s probably why I never reached the bottom, because I never reached any ore deeper than Platinum levels lol
Consumables are broken in this game, especially reserve fuel tank, if you gotta go back up each time you get to points where you can only make a few tiles of progress at a time. When I was a kid I never realised that and also wanted to get every permanent upgrade
Dropping down into the mineshafts you dug is incredibly frustrating in this game, since your horizontal speed never seems to come to an absolute halt, so during any drop into them, your ship inches very very slightly into the horizontal direction that you last moved toward, leading to you sometimes taking completely unexpected falldamage when the game detects you to have hit one of the ground tiles surrounding the vertical tunnel you intended to drop into.
It happens sometimes, but when you lean to a wall after the start of the fall, it should center you and keep you fall in a straight line. Works most of the time 🙂
I was talking about this game with my cousin many years ago and I asked him how many times he beat the boss. He asked what boss? Turns out he just listened to Mr Natas and never went below 6000.

6:05 it is explained earlier: it's gas pockets in the dirt that make it explode. Obviously they added this to the game to add another difficulty when going deeper. Nice speed run! I woke up in the middle of the night, having a cold, cannot sleep and somehow my brain remembered this game, when I had played it last time about 10 years ago. Oh man I didn't know it was a sequel, it has a completely different story, I thought it was some kind of remaster of the original. This video really confused me because I didn't finish the original when I was a child but stumbled upon "super motherload" a decade later.

Mr. Natas being Satan was the Rosebud of my childhood
ughhhhhh, i remember when i played this in my childhood that i would fall down those long mineshafts and my ship would somehow shift slightly to the left or right and get caught on some loose patch of dirt and explode. i should check this game out again, see if that still happens
Yooooo, Mr. Natas scared the shit out of me as a kid. The boss fight is so silly lul. Cool look at the mechanics of this gem. Way ahead of its time.
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE NAME OF THIS GAME SENCE THE TIME I RECALLED IT AS AN ADULT! You have no idea how thankful I am of this fucking video!
Talk about a nostalgia rush from the old Newgrounds era. The plot twist shook me as a little kid. The game was so much fun.
Bro i did not know anyone else has played this game. This is my childhood in a nutshell
