I’ve always liked the idea of getting up early, but I always failed and went back to oversleeping getting up at the last minute. This year I have managed to get into a routine where I wake at 6AM every single day. I am really happy with this.
@@sarahmalek1405 Firstly you have to tell yourself that you will get up at a certain time, every single day. You must tell yourself that this is what you do. Get up at 6AM even if you went to bed after midnight. When you get up, pull back the blanket and make the bed. Put your phone, charger, power bank, bag, keys, pens and whatever else on the end of the bed so you are not able to easily climb back in. Open the window wide so the cold air fills the room. Go into the bathroom, brush your teeth and wet your face. Put on your training gear and head out for a run. It doesn’t have to be long, but something that gets you breathing heavily. When you return home, open the windows, put the kettle on and make a cup of whatever you like. I make a cup of decaf tea or coffee. While it brews, do press-ups (or other body weight exercise). In between sets of press-ups, recite positive affirmations. Mine: 'I like myself,’ ‘I am responsible,’ ‘I can do it,’ ‘I am the best.’ I repeat each one 25 times. So 100 affirmations. After drinking my tea, I get a shave (several times a week), then jump in the shower. Once clean, I turn the shower to cold. I stand under the shower for a minute or two, making sure the cold water runs down my back. Once dressed, I make breakfast, which could be gruel, pancakes, bacon, omelette or fruit. Whatever I feel like. I then do whatever tasks I need to do, or simply read and relax. The window in my room (or ‘office’ as I call it) stays wide open until at least 9AM. I then have one can of energy drink. I don’t recommend this if you don’t already drink them, as it’s not a good habit. That will be it for the day as far as caffeinated drinks. If one were to have such a drink, make sure you do not consume it after 2PM. After work, dinner, gym, family time, down time and what not, I am pretty much done by 9PM. I try to head to bed before 10PM. It is best to make a rule to be in bed for 10 o’clock. Close your eyes and make a point of not opening them or moving until it is time to get up. When 6 o’clock comes, the whole cycle repeats again. ‘It’s what I do.’
Used to get up at 5:30am for work. I loved it because the roads were still very quiet, I was in and out of gas stations getting my breakfast. I miss those days, but I sure love my sleep.
Maxim Bude for years I wake up at 5:30am because I live pretty far from school. I always wished for waking up at 7:30 or even 7. I sleep at 10-12 and I know it’s my fault. But school :P
If you're trying to wake up at 5am then here are some tips. Set your alarm at 4:45am and 5:00am, so then you’ll feel happy because you don't have to get up on the first alarm. *GO TO BED* AT 10:30 or lower ( *but not lower than 8, because then you'll wake up at night* ) because then you'll have enough rest. I've been waking up at 5:00 since I was 7 (Now I'm 15) I always liked to be the first one up for the peace and quiet.
I love waking up early because I can stay more focused first thing. It's great when no one else is around to interrupt you, though that gets a lot harder once you've had a child...
As a 62 year old semi retired guy with no work due to COVID-19 I’ve been staying up until approximately 2:00 AM and waking up at 10AM. I’ve always been an early riser arriving at my job at 8:00 AM for many years. I now find the late night hours to be so peaceful and quiet.especially during the winter months.I still manage to be productive and always have a list of things to do. I’m hoping to return to part time work very soon and will change my schedule once weather changes and life resumes. As mentioned in this video it’s so important to get 8 hours of sleep to allow your body to reset and heal.
Cuz he probably actually did it. It’s fricken hard tho... Humans have fluctuating lifestyles. Our realities are a consequence of reality, not something we pick and choose. :(
Hello Matt, I am waking up at 5 am for the last 2 months. Yes initial few days i felt the same. Low on sleep and energy. But now in the course of time I feel this is the best thing that I have done. Its like I am aligned to the rythm of nature. My body feels lighter and stomach is at ease, since I have my diner by 7pm. According to Ayurveda 4.30am is the ideal time to wakeup and meditate :-)
This is the most realistic and refreshing video about waking up at 5 am I have seen on youtube. Sure, there are people who have been doing it for years and wake up even earlier than that because they have to go to work or school. But if you work from home or a regular job that starts at 8 or 9, you don't have to wake up so early unless you want to. And the reality is that it is really hard and you sacrifice a lot because you have to go to bed so early. It is great to see a video that finally shows how this works or doesn't work in real life rather than the usual UA-cam propaganda for waking up early that we have seen so many times. Thanks Matt!
Getting 8 hours of sleep takes more discipline when you're aiming to wake up at 5am. It was great to watch this process. It can be hard when your schedule changes so much but I like to wake up at 5am as much as possible because it truly does help me to be productive. Cheers!
My grandfather slept only 4 hours per day, since he was a young adult actually. .he lived up to 97, healthy with no diseases... He always used to say, what's important is not sleep necessarily but restfulness of the body and mind...
I have been waking up at 4 am every morning for the last 318days, and go for a 70 minute walk. I lost 95 lb and have my life in order. Discipline works!
As a fellow college student, I can relate. Those who get enough sleep every night, all I gotta say is that it must be nice to not be in school. School and work with proper sleep equals fail. Something's gotta give.
Ik that waking up at 5 am isn’t for everyone but ima share my mourning routine here for anyone that cares. I’m still a student btw. So recently, I have been waking up at 5:00 am, making my bed, and going to the bathroom for a cold shower. Then I’ll get dressed and brush my teeth. I’ll do some reading until 5:45 and then I’ll start getting to work. Ill work until 7 and then I’ll do a short body weight push-up workout because I am trying to get better at pushups. Then I’ll go back to work until 7:35. I’ve noticed that I can work for hours in the morning without breaks and I don’t get burnt out or distracted. At 7:35, I do my hair and wash my face with cold water. At 7:45 I go downstairs for breakfast and then I leave my house for school between 8:05-8:10. I try to get into bed at 9 pm every night aswell
There's a different way? Seriously though, having perfectly white teeth shouldn't be stressed like it is. It doesn't really matter. Take care of yourself but you would have to do a regular whitening routine as well as making sure you aren't destroying your enamel in the process.
Maybe he drinks his coffee with sugar or another sweetener. Brushing your teeth within half an hour after consuming sugar, damages your teeth because you just made them vulnerable.
if you drink coffee then brush your teeth it will ruin your teeth even more. You'll just be brushing all the bad stuff from the coffee around your teeth and ruining your enamel leading to extreme tooth decay. Just make sure you wait at least 30 mins and rinse your mouth with water right after a cup of coffee :)
My dentist sister told me I should brush my teeth within 30 minutes of eating sugar or else there's not that huge of an effect and my teeth are ruined anyway. But I'm currently not talking to her so I can't confirm.

My problem before was that work really zapped me of energy. I'm introvert and have social anxiety on top of that. When I got home from work, the rest of my day was just "recovery" - sitting in the sofa watching TV in other words. Waking up early to get things done before work has really started to change my life. I'm more productive, learning stuff, exercising and I'm not even watching TV anymore (I sold it many months ago!) I've been waking up 4:30 daily this year, and for me it is amazing for the above reasons, but I think it's easier since I'm single and don't have much family. Having an immediate goal (as you learned) for example going to the gym at 5:00 really helped me get into it, and now I get lots done before my work day starts.
Thank you. 😊 This is my goal as well, when I always woke up whenever on days I could. Today and yesterday I woke up 1pm, my issue is getting out of bed and not turning off the alarm.

What I found to help me a ton is waking up at 5 am, and working out immediately. Gives so much more purpose to my mornings!
Yes, there's no reason to wake up this early if you have no activities to do. It's very important thing if you start.
I once or twice tried waking up at 5am and went jogging but felt so sleepy and tired at work. How do people enjoy working out early in the morning? Cos I still prefer working out after my shift at 6pm

I’ve always liked the idea of getting up early, but I always failed and went back to oversleeping getting up at the last minute. This year I have managed to get into a routine where I wake at 6AM every single day. I am really happy with this.
Can you tell us how ?

Hello Matt, I am waking up at 5 am for the last 2 months. Yes initial few days i felt the same. Low on sleep and energy. But now in the course of time I feel this is the best thing that I have done.
Cheers!

Brushing teeth and then drinking coffee? That's pretty savage dude
They don't call me the bad boy of minimalism for nothing.
if you drink coffee then brush your teeth it will ruin your teeth even more.

I'm more productive, learning stuff, exercising and I'm not even watching TV anymore (I sold it many months ago!)
I've been waking up 4:30 daily this year, and for me it is amazing for the above reasons, but I think it's easier since I'm single and don't have much family.
