It’s not over! I love that amp and it’ll continue to keep getting praise 🤘🏻it’s like a modded version of this for the next gain stage. They both kick ass❗️
@@LambChopper678 It would be interesting to hear what the two amps sound like with all EQ at noon, and how close the DSL can be dialed in on the Ultra Gain channel to approximate the JCM800.
Amazing riff selection as always sir! Great sounding amp, really encapsulates what makes the JCM800 so legendary. Been thinking about picking one up for a while, looking forward to more of your videos on this 🤘
There is something so satisfying watching you play the riffs I've listened for so long. I might have to invest in a DSL100HR and the respective half stack. I've never owned a tube amp so I guess it is time. Thanks for uploading this type of content, dude. Cheers.
It’s a killer amp mate, every bit as good as the original 2000DSL without the breakage. I’d still have my 2000 but it kept blowing up. It was 1st gen but the tone was killer
@@mrhyde2250 that's a good question. First of all, the DSL is a really great amp and certainly better value for money. It also has some extra features such as the effects loop switch. However, I'd say that the UK made Marshalls are just a step up in quality in all areas, such as build quality, robustness and, most importantly, sound. I guess it's a bit like the difference between an Epiphone and a Gibson. Mine has the best tone I've ever had live, and it cuts though the mix wonderfully for solos. I'd suggest watching Euge Valovirta's videos for demonstrations of both amps. Note that I boost mine with both an SD-1 and a Pro Tone Mid Boost, just like Gary Holt.
@@GarryParker thanks for the reply. I appreciate. I guess I see the DSL20 as being so incredibly versatile that the Jubilee seems like it would be a step backwards. But it sounds like I’m wrong. 🙂
Yo Lamb, ever thought of reviewing the 6505 mh, (20w 6505 head), it's kinda budget priced and would be cool to see what you can do with it. Btw, thx for the awesome video!
Oh man you are just buying all the amps I want! I just got the super crush 100 head before your video and was considering selling my dsl40c for this jcm800.
Cheers for reviewing this little beast of an amp. Best amp ived owned so far hard to get a bad sound out of it. has that growl and feel so many other amps and pedals get close to but fail to achieve
I just picked up a used Boogie m5/35 head & 1x12 cabinet over the weekend.I got to say I love the M2 channel. love the amp, it's a learning experience, it does so much.
It does man, super versatile and remember to take loads of photos and write down what they are 🤣 The only problem with them is they take so long to dial your sound in just right you don’t want to make any changes searching for other tones. That’s a pretty good issue though
Your beautiful birds are responsible for ALL your tones! 🤣 I didn’t catch this video when you first posted it, I’m just catching up now! I’m inches away from buying one of these myself, and you always know how to make everything sound awesome. You got some killer hands, my good sir! Cheers Lambchopper! Marshall is on the jazz. Like their DSL, Origin, SV and this JCM 800. Also like some of the the Fender amps. Your parrots made me think of Monty Python, except yours are alive 👍
I have a 50-watt 1981 JCM 800 which I believe is the 1st year they came out. The volume is very touchy. It has a sweet spot tweaked the right way its the best amp ever but a little off makes a huge difference where it's not so good. I will probably get 20 watt because it seems to sound great like the DSL at any volume.
Congratulations for the video! Please, between jcm800 and dsl, which do you prefer? Or would it be better to have both! LOL And one last doubt! I have an 800 like yours, but I noticed that when the loop is turned on, the volume drops and a loud noise comes in, even if we use only a jumper cable between the in and out (without any pedal). Did you notice something similar? Thank you very much for your attention! cheers and sucess for you!
I haven’t got the same loop issue you explained but I have heard that from others. There’s pretty simple fx loop upgrades out there for this model that are totally transparent. I know Head First amplification have kits available. As far as which amp is better. They’re different enough that I feel neither step on each others toes. The dsl brings an extra level of gain that does super aggressive modern tones that only a fully modded 800 can achieve. This is a 10/10 tone for classic tones. Both are killer
Yeah the actives really shined through at the end. That’s the best slayer time I’ve heard from you which would make sense being the 800… wow. Well down
Hey Lamb, can you make a Crystal Mountain patch for the Katana MKII when ever you have time? I'd really appreciate it, I'm trying to do a cover for it with my friend.
When it comes to the lower wattage and running an mxr 10 band EQ pedal through the effects loop if I was to bump up the gain and level on that EQ pedal would it effect the tonality of the amp? The reason I'm asking is I used that EQ while checking out the dsl20hr in the shop the other week and was left a little disappointed but I didn't adjust either the level or gain parameters on the pedal as it was in the shop and I'd never used it before however I own the mxr 6 band eq and run it through the effects loop on my EVH 40w iconic combo and it drastically changes the tonal characteristics of the amp it wasn't until I was thinking about it later that I realised I left both parameters on the mxr 10 band neutral! Thanks for another wicked awesome video man there's no other channel on UA-cam that can dial in the tones as accurately as yourself, the information you pass on is valued and I really appreciate not only the time you take to make these videos but also that you reply and to date your advice has always been spot on and because of that I've bought some great pieces of kit and dialled in some killer tones. Cheers bro!
Thanks mate, I don’t usually push gain through the loop but I often bring the volume down on the 10 band so I can drive the amp a little harder. Adding gain post the preamp doesn’t tend to sound any good and you can run the chance of damaging the power amp driving it harder than it was intended. Thanks 🙏🏻
Aye mate. I’m sure it’s crossed your mind but are you going to do a video with the 800 slaving the power amp of the Mark V 25? That’s holy grail territory
Yo lambchopper, I was wondering if you'd consider changing the speakers out. I can't remember what ones you have in your marshal or mesa cab. But id like to see the celestion g12t-75 or celestion g12-65 on here. They are great speakers for getting metallica tones.
Excellent riffage! You really do justice to this great little amp. In fact you should probably be doing the promo videos for marshall. I've had one of these Studio heads for a couple of years and I love it. Did you buy yours brand new?
Depends if I’m playing 80’s thrash or modern aggressive exodus style tones. If you love the sound of early Megadeth, testament, annihilated etc then the 800 is unmatched. Just an od in front and it’s exact
I don’t tend to drive the front of the boogies as they have loads of gain anyways. The dsl has plenty considering the amount of gain on tap. As far as the 800, I haven’t tried really pushing it yet. I’m just working through it to see how the controls all work with different boosts.
