My mother died and dad was lonely sitting at home. He was successful his entire life and worked very hard for 50 years. He invested well and owned many properties. He went into a casino because of loneliness and within 5 years, he was flat broke. He lost over 5 million dollars chasing companionship and entertainment and mostly to regain his losses. He killed himself at 75 years old. He was too ashamed to ask us for help.
I once saw a young guy about 25 walk up to a blackjack table, he put $1000 on one hand, lost it.... put another $1000 on one hand... lost it....saw him at an ATM machine with actual tears in his eyes... trying to get more money. I knew at that moment I could never go into a casino again. My father also destroyed his life gambling.
He's a classic case of overbetting his bankroll. He might have done better to play two hands for a thousand dollars simultaneously. Playing multiple hands of blackjack doesn't reduce the expectation of loss, but it does reduce the variance of the loss. He might have won one and lost one.
When I was a child, my dad ( gambling addict ) took me and my brothers to casinos, bingo halls, etc. We had to stand outside of the rope, where the gambling machines were. At bingo, he even let me dob the cards as a 10 - 11 year old. It was a different time back then and I think he knew the owner. So they let me do that. Anyway, putting a naive, impressionable, easily manipulated child in that environment is hideous. Two of us three brothers became massive gambling addicts, as soon as we were of age. Not a coincidence obviously. I have a ton of debt right now and it makes me sick. Wish he had waited for mom to come home from work, then go gamble by himself. Leave us kids out of it. What a horrible addiction. Absolutely financial obliterating, stressful, depressing, life destroying illness 😭
I hear ya, Josh. I come from a family of gamblers. I wish I had never stepped inside a casino at 20 y.o. In my late 40s now, and don't have anything to show for it. I can't recall how much I've lost over the years. Hopefully my Mom doesn't become the addict I am.
Hopefully this didn t stop you from stop gambling. At the end of the day it s only one person who can actually do something about it. It s you. To even allow others to help you out of it..
As a former casino employee, I would like to give the following advice: 1. Don't play slot machines, they are addictive. 2. If you do, use only as much as you can withstand losing. Set aside before you start, never go over it. 3. If you are lucky to win a bigger win, be happy but do not think it will happen again.
Anybody, including a gambler can comprehend this comment and fully understand it. But a gambler brain can easily be hijacked, and all of your points of reason go out the window. Advice is good. But the only advice that works for a gambler is, YOU must abstain and NEVER gamble to succeed.
Good advice, but the people represented on this show have little self/spiritual awareness; so ensconsed in materialism from the post-war era mentality. OR many are bad people, amd this is their karma coming back on them. I know a few addicted gamblers; they are rotten people and I enjoy watching them lose!
Such a horrible feeling to blow your paycheck within 2 - 3 hours of getting it. Driving home with tears in your eyes and wondering how in the hell am I gonna pay for gas/groceries the next 13 days? Loans? Credit cards? Pawn shop? All terrible choices 😢
@@tfptravel.food.peace.3788 You stole years of your father’s life when you stole his retirement. I hope you’re lying because if that’s true that’s the most degenerate, lowlife crap I’ve ever heard. Repent !!
I can totally relate, I am in the thick of it. Gambled my whole paycheck. Pawn a ring. Borrowed from people who owe me money ( not from gambling). Escape is right. I feel like I am living a double life. I ask myself what is the goal. I realize there isn’t a goal but an addiction. I am around a few that gamble a lot. I have ADHD, I have an addictive personality. Anything I like, I do it to excess. Lord please help me ❤. Thank you for this documentary. I am fighting not to go now. A casino, is now 8 minutes away from my home. I
This is so sad. The woman who spent over $750,000 on gambling I felt so sorry for her. Gambling is such a powerful addiction that ruins lives. There needs to be so much more support for Gamblers rather than regular TV adverts and promotions to get people to lose their money on gambling.
The biggest problem is slot machines... They're programmed to be as addicting as possible. They're so fast-paced and entertaining that it's easy to get completely immersed in them. 90% of people in gambling recovery are from slot machines. There's gotta be some sort of regulation on them because they're outright sinister.
A THING can't be sad. I'm sorry of you are sad. I don;t weep for these people living in freedom , and throwing it away. Hope they are all Trump voters.
It's soo true that it hooks you because if you do win, you think you can do it again. However, if you lose you return to win it all back. So, either way they've got you!.
Correct! It's a double edged sword! What people never say, is that that if you win, you celebrate by gambling more, and if you loose, you gamble to get back your losses! Either way, the cycle continues...
I hadn't gambled in 15 years after losing money...worked and paid off debts.... became legalized and was up 8,000....lost that and have chased the last 3 years.... nightmare
One thing that made me quit is that I finally realized after many years of playing the simple fact that I can t win it back. It s only about if I want to lose more. I was exactly like you until that point. Chasing, hoping, praying. That realization changed my life. If gamblers can just get that chasing is THE actual trap. This is the world of self-destruction. This is the exact reason why people lose their salaries, house, friends, families. Only because they truly believe they can beat the system or be lucky enough to win a huge jackpot. But, they can t. Of course they can t. And this is why the house always win. Simply because people is chasing an illusion. Just look at the odds again. You can easily spend your entire life chasing and never win any life changing jackpot.
The number of gambling addicts is so underestimated it's scary! these big casinos are definitely not flourishing from the customers that have the occasional flutter, they depend on the heavily addicted gamblers! there's a good reason gambling was banned years ago, it destroys peoples lives!
The worse thing about gambling addiction is you can lose just about everything and theres no pity from anyone , with other addictions the addiction is mitigated to an extent but because gamblers appear normal on the outside trying to explain to others about your behaviour falls on deaf ears.
This is about a 7 year old Doc and everything is coming true except sports gambling is now available on your phone and expected to be a huge problem especially among young males.
I was once addicted to Gambling in my Late Teens and Early 20s. Lost Thousands of Dollars. Glad i made my mistake when i was Young, and learned not to Gamble ever again!
I lived in Nevada for 26 years so I never got the urge , then I worked at a pawn shop and see the horrors of gambling I am glad you learned not to gamble again
I believe that gambling can have devastating effects on one's life. However, I was fortunate enough to receive therapy and take steps to improve myself, which allowed me to overcome any negative impacts that gambling may have had on me.
Gambling, like most vice sales, gets 80% of its revenue from 20% of its clients: the problem gamblers. The casinos know it and the government knows it. ONCE you have that much tax money coming in, you can't ever put the cork in the bottle. So the 20% will always be destroyed for the benefit of all others. Casinos don't care and neither does government.
Gambling is the worse addiction ever. You can lose everything. House, car, job, wife, kids, self esteem. Business and everything else. My advice is to stay away. I almost lost it all.
Thank you for this documentary, It will help me to take a step to do the right thing. Gambling addiction sucks even if it means making wasteful trips to the lottery machine. I don't go to casinos but spend to much time and money at the Pa lottery scratch off machine. I've had enough and before I go into self destruct I need to do something now. I love life but my addiction will soon or later destroy what I have. This documentary was a blessing, a first step thank you.
Suprprised u don’t go to the casinos lol I gave the last three years of my life to rivers in Pitt lol.. so glad I just moved to sc.. still lost over 3k in last 3 mos online but the casino was killing me! Lol
I went bankrupt and made my ex wife's life miserable about 20 years ago. Take it from a former loser...you AREN'T different .....your (system) ISN'T unique. You too can get caught up if you play. Just remember a loser can't win,and a winner can't quit!
My mom used to go to these tribal casinos in Wisconsin every now and then, justifying to herself that she was helping the tribe somehow. The habit took hold after she retired. I never asked her how much she won because it was none of my business, but she never seemed happy when she came home. If anything, she seemed depressed and sullen, as though something did not happen that she had expected to happen. I am convinced that gambling leads to depression, and depression leads to gambling. I saw my mom's attitude toward money change after she got involved with gambling and casinos. She got more obsessed with money to the point of not taking care of herself and her health as time went on. She passed away over 20 years ago.
I feel so lucky that I'm able to manage my enjoyment of poker. When I lose, that's it, go home, no worries. When I win, cool, got a little extra money in my pocket. It's never about winning or losing money. It's about having fun for a few hours like it is to have a nice food and coffee with friends., and it costs a small fee. I don't expect to win money after a nice meal, nor poker, so the fact I can is nothing more than coincidence or a random benefit. The ability, I think, to separate a way to have fun and a way to make money is what matters. The game of poker can genuinely be "beat" because you'd playing against other players, not the house, but to play blackjack, baccarat, pai gow, roulette, etc, is madness. You know for a fact you won't win, yet you keep playing. It's literally insane. If you want to have fun, go bowling. Watch a movie. If you want to make money, get a job and earn it like the rest of us. You will never figure some clever way to make money from the casinos. There's a reason why they're rich and you aren't.
The lady speaking about winning a jackpot is right. Winning that jackpot only whets the appetite for winning another jackpot which exceeds a previous windfall.
The irony is that even if the casino slot machine jackpot is big, it's still peanuts compared to lottery jackpots, so they would be better off stopping playing slot machines and buy lottery tickets instead.
I had of course, heard about gambling being addiction because when I went to a casino for my 1st time, I went with $80 that was my “Limit” I had a great time as I continually would win just little amounts to keep playing, so my best-friend and I found it a fun time but we could also see how addictive it could be if you don’t/can’t stop playing when it’s becoming “not fun” or feeling like you “NEED” to win to cover debts incurred. But I saw a documentary on gambling addiction and saw people who were begging, borrowing and stealing to keep gambling! 😮 One example I saw, was a young man (around 24) actually went to his parents home when they were away, and STOLE HER REFRIGERATOR!!! 😮😮😮😮 I wish I was joking, but I’m not! I have seen sad ones where people have stolen/sold/hocked their own jewelry or even their parents wedding rings, etc 😭🥺😭 It blows me away. 🥺🥺
Even better. See a movie by yourself. You still get to zone out and have the escape factor. And the reward too. Especially straight after work. Get a massage also. About 50 bucks of reward feeling and bliss. And money not wasted. You can also buy a lottery ticket.
This problem will INCREASE unless a different source of tax revenue is found. We USED to tax the wealthy and large, profitable corporations. Can someone please tell me what was wrong with that idea?
I feel bad there are so many losing players. Sometimes when playing poker against them I do feel remorse for taking others money when they shouldn’t be playing/gambling. But I can’t control others decisions. A lot of ppl get stuck on what they have done in the past. Focus on the present and the future and understand you can stop whenever and turn things around. Learn from the past but don’t let it ruin you now.
@@pokerqAK47 The thing is that even the most skilled pro poker players always go broke once or several times. Be careful yourself. Get out of it and keep it as a hobby.
The part I hate about a slot jackpot is the tax the government expects on any win over 1200$. That's not a life changing win. Raise the amount of a taxable win to reflect inflation. This amount hasn't changed in tens of years.
The change in the tax law in 2018 made it a lot harder to deduct gambling losses if you itemize due to the combination of the standard deduction and personal exemption to make a larger standard deduction. You might have heard that the IRS wanted to LOWER the limit for a W-2G to $600 in 2017, but it was retracted after the comment period due to all the negative comments that the proposal got from both casinos and players. Had the W-2G limit been indexed to inflation, it would be about $5400 now. The $1200 threshold for issuing a W-2G was set in 1977. In 2017, Dina Titus, whose congressional district includes the Las Vegas strip, requested the IRS to increase the W-2G threshold to $4800 and index it to inflation, but nothing happened. The idea of penny slots that require a bet of $8.80 seems ridiculous to me.
Also it's taxed! If no itemized deductions, can't write off losses. I remember the days, one line on your taxes your claim your winnings, the next line the losses were claimed, NO MORE!
@Tim McNamee That sounds reasonable. I can't count how many times I've been just over the 1200$ bar. Its irritating to even keep track of those W2-G forms. I sometimes have to call the casino for copies of the damned things.
@@yourfuneraldirector6432 thats why if I ever play slots, (more of a card man) i would rather play dollar slots, as the max bet usually is lower than a penny alot max bet
I was a compulsive gambler as well and when I lost my loved hobby then the ugly gambling monster started take control of me........I was a ex-gambler. I ended up in hospital because of it. So I got help from gambling Consellour and decided it was crunch time as I have lost control, spend my money the I sneaked in my folks money and wrote false checks etc. I had to bite the bullet no return as I needed to do something pronto. So I self excluded from my casino......Since that I haven’t been back so far...... I did exclusion myself, I wasn’t forced to do it I want it as it was only way out of the madness been a casino addict. Fix it early as I knew if you keep putting off it gets worse. To the point I will lose my family, happiness and future.
Here in 2021 and Online Crypto Casinos have taken over the internet by storm. Gambling is the #1 section on twitch. And young adults are getting addicted to Online Casinos.
I am addicted and dont think I can stop so I'll have to fight myself to minimize my time in going to the casino or save an amount just for gambling and go once in awhile. It is so hard to stop. I'll miss the people, the comps, the fun in different games, the live bands.... it's a social environment. This is definitely the worst addiction. I have lost it all, all my dignity. I joke about my addiction. I have banned myself and still go.
Eyeswideopen Truth: You didn`t win. You were given an illusion of winning. The drug is everywhere, so you can`t hide from it, just like you can`t hide from yourself. You are always there !!! Every time you start to think about gambling, think about what you have lost since day one of the addiction. Get mad at the people who did this to you, go to the mirror and tell that person you are mad at what they have done to you, but you forgive yourself. Then spend that money on you, and don`t give it to the thieves. Realize that even though the words are different, they are still drug pushers. Do you want to buy their drugs ? Don`t give them YOUR money for their drugs. Go eat a good meal, buy some nice clothes, go see a movie, buy your friends or family some gifts. They need not be expensive, it will be the thought that counts. You will feel better knowing that you did what YOU wanted to do with that money and not give it to the drug dealers. The thrill IS A DRUG. It alters your state of mind, think about it. Set a goal not to gamble for one day. Do that when you wake up, tell yourself " Just one more day, that`s all, just one." Get mad if you have to, just get mad at the addiction. Curse it if it helps. Treat it like your worst enemy ( because it is, it wants to take everything from you.) But most importantly, make peace with yourself, meditate if you have to. Tell yourself " Whatever it takes to get through ONE day."
I was able to beat the addiction enough to pay off my home and auto. I still live in constant fear that the dragon will pop its ugly head back up and ruin what I have worked so hard to achieve. Just like when I kicked the smoking habit, it was hard but it hangs around like a waiting butler waiting to send me back down the " Hole of Despair and ruin." I live life one day and hour at a time. I am lucky to have the love of someone who keeps me from falling down again. All is never lost as long as you can be more determined than your addiction. Never use hope to beat your addiction, it was one of the ills that Pandora let out. It is like a carrot that can never be reached. I use the fear of falling, and the patience and determination I asked of God to deliver me from temptation. IT CAN BE DONE !!!!
I just recently did the same thing.I asked God to help me with my addiction. The first time I asked him and a week later I tried to open a new online account and everything was going wrong just to try to open an account. That was God telling me not to do that.🙏
I had my bout with gambling and got out of it early on, only losing ten grand, which I know is nothing compared to what these people blew through, but it was enough for me to make a serious effort to stay away. No need to lose the farm, get help before it gets to this point.
Maybe my having social anxiety is a slight blessing in disguise. Otherwise I'd probably be in the casionos day & m night. But I'm the type that normally avoid large crowds at all costs.
Addictions can be seen as a failure to bond. A problem gambler has bonded with the activity of gambling because they couldn't bond as fully with anything else.
The way they design these video slots should be freaking criminal. The tactics casinos use to destroy people's lives is reprehensible. I wish there was something to do about it...
The only way to win is not to play, and that means not setting foot in those establishments for any reason. You can drink at home and eat out far away from those places.
Almost all of my family, including aunts and uncles are gambling addicts --- mom, both brothers, sister and her husbands, poss my dad, my mom's mom, and almost all of my mom's siblings. If you think you have beat this problem, you prob haven't. The most my mom ever made gambling was through Ca Lottery - but she did not hit a million dollar jackpot. She won approx 9K, but most certainly spent upwards of 75K in her lifetime. House rules every time. Gambling sucks generally, and I will only do it on vacation with budgeted funds, being satisfied with the little bit of entertainment I get. I can walk away from it with no problem and often win small amounts of money. But that's me. I learned from Mom what gambling does to people. It's a very sad way to live.
"To get over cancer, you must admit it was 100% your fault" Tell me you don't understand how addiction works without telling me you don't understand how addiction works...this is a VERY naïve way to look at addiction, and is a big reason people have trouble getting help. Please stop thinking this way
I like that stupid PSA before the video. "Bet careful , bet safe". And with a snake about to strike. It's all BS anyway. The states make too much money from casino's and not dare get rid of them. Casinos don't care but the sure try to act like they do.
I knew a 70+ year old man that gambled his whole life since he was a kid,...he was a runner for a bookie when he was a kid , then he graduated to a Bookie, ...he gambled away everything thruout his life, and ended up broke, no SS, no pension,...lived off his son till the day the died.,...*$AD*.
I am 65. The casino is a safe place for me to go when I'm lonely. People to talk to and laugh with and there's food and drinks and sport events to watch. The machines are programmed to attract us...personable and fun to play. Security everywhere and I feel safe. And no kids anywhere (yay!). This is why your inheritances are evaporating. We live alone, and many of us are 'hanging around' waiting for someone to call or invite us over for dinner or something. We know our accumulated 'wealth' is all we control now, and if we live long enough that money goes to our end of life care. Again, no inheritance. Your relative may already be in a care facility, and guess what? Many have 'field trip' days where patients are taken to casinos for the day without their relatives' approval. Casinos pay workers to do this, usually with free play to the person bringing the patients.
The state is addicted to gambling revenue in the same way that the individual is addicted to gambling. One cannot be solved independently of the other.
De facto everyone takes responsibility for their actions whether they like it or not, unless some other agency lets them get away with it by passing the responsibility to someone else.
I already knew that gambling can be addictive and the odds are not in my favor but like David Selznick once said,"I know the game is rigged but it's the only game in town". What I mean by that is you go down and have a good time and have a little bit of fun and get away for awhile. I know a lot of high rollers that have gambled our life away. I would never allow that to happen to me.
There's a difference between gambling and problem gambling. Some people can gamble and set limits and know when to quit. Some people have no limits, which is when it becomes a serious serious problem.
This all only started when so many States , other than Nevada and Jersey. It all has become too convenient. If the problem however is this bad, then you are the way out as I can see. Many people did not even realize until later in life, that they had an addictive personality. Thanks to all that are there for them ,, to give the real help they need.
But, but...my favorite casino is giving out free ice scrapers this month! I'm going to need one for the car I'm going to buy with this $22,000 I saved up.
I don’t know you or your husband, but my heart breaks for you. You are BOTH being destroyed by gambling. You may not be gambling, but he is. So, you lose time with your husband because he’s gambling (even if he’s in the same room with you) his attention and energy is on whatever device he gambles on (phone, iPad, laptop, etc) If your husband goes to a casino to gamble, then he’s in an environment FULL of others like him, enjoying gambling with out any one breathing down his neck. We all know the “tricks of the trade” they do to get you, reel you in and hook you. I have of course known of gambling addiction, but I will admit I had NO idea people would cheat, steal, lie and destroy everything & everyone for “one more chance” 😮 sadly, I knew the suicide rate was high from it on news, etc.. The ridiculous “perks” they “give/reward” you, aren’t a worth a red penny. The casino makes a a bazillion dollars a day or night (yes, slight exaggeration, but you get my point) and what they’ve “rewarded you” with, just keeps you happy, makes you feel special & wanting to go back. My husband and I go once a year, stay for a week, enjoying the dining, shopping, playing the machines and a concert if the performer is someone we want to see. ** i know It’s an incredibly fine line to walk between (example:) gambling, or drinking, etc..to finding yourself at rock bottom. But it doesn’t happen overnight. -What I would like to know from folks with addiction to gambling, is how did it start? -When did you FIRST notice that you were becoming a problem gambler? -How were you able to continue to fund your addiction without anyone knowing all of the above questions? 👆 🇨🇦🙂 Thank you truly, if you’re still reading this 🙂🇨🇦

I can't believe that woman is an ACTUARY. That means she works with advanced math, statistics and probability every day. Basically the first type of perspn you would expect to recognize that you will always lose money gambling long tern, and the last type of person you'd expect to be a gambling addict.
Most of the worst employer fraud cases were bank and finance clerks/managers. Who had a gambling problem. Just goes to show how addictive it is. That logic and reasoning is not involved. It's a dopamine high.
Everyone is right about how horrible gambling addiction is. What's even sadder is I (and a lot of people) couldn't afford the medical debt that would arise from going to the hospital to get help.
Gamblers are the lowest of the low. Most of them are thieves and liars. They said in that documentary that they "Suffer by themselves". What about the people they steal from and lie to, what about them? Gamblers are vile people.
The only way to approach gambling is that it is a game. You should look at how much money you can afford to lose. You should only ever consider gambling if you wouldn't mind taking the money you can afford to lose and throwing it away. So, let's say you have a budget of $100 (That's not much and many people can afford to lose that), then consider how much time you want to spend in gambling. If you want to spend 1 hour, then bet small. If you want to spend just ten minutes gambling, then you can place larger bets, but always stop when that time is up. Also, if you have a target to double your money, then stop when you've reached that target. You have won. Walk away and be happy. Or, if you have lost your $100 before the time you have allowed, then just stop and consider it some time spent playing a game. Only return to gambling when you have that disposable allowance.
AERI: A true addict will snowball back into what they know and will not care about anything but the game. When you are in the devils den, you lose track of time and self. Its like an alcoholic limiting themselves one drink. The addiction will eventually become two, then is back to square one. Disassociation is the only way to stay clean. Find another occupation for your time. Do anything but return to your demon.
You really think that a brain on the edge of being out of control is reasoning like that? if they could reason in such a manner they would determine that gambling actually made no sense. the correct terminology to begin reasoning with is that the game is rigged. Because it is rigged. It’s rigged just like the FAIR. It is designed for you to spend spend spend and every now and then someone has to win or it is illegal. The odds are against everyone that’s not a casino shareholder.
750 thousand? Lady you were a winner already wtf!!! If you already have money like that wtf are you doing gambling?! People who are broke usually gamble, and people who enjoy it. This is a crazy story
Hi, I'd say the impact on the children of an addict would be a significant rise in the probability of them becoming an addict too. Whether it be gambling or drinking or whatever, I think what they're used to seeing and accepting as 'normal' when growing up can then pass off in themselves as normal until the addiction takes hold and it's almost too late by the time they might realise they too have a problem. It's an interesting situation but I'd be very surprised if the offspring got 'off Scott free' so to speak.
I can't think of anything more boring than sitting in front of a slot machine for 3 hours. Gambling is the dumbest thing on Earth. There are way more problem gamblers out there then are being reported.
I am watching this so I can be prepared when I get older probably I will leave my country and go live in the US so I need to be prepared and hopefully not lose everything im still young now but time is ticking away on me.
Hey Christi. I saw your comment on your post. Sorry that you are still struggling with addiction. I cannot offer any solutions, but I recognize that you are still trying to break your cycle. I am feeling in the thick of a cycle myself. Keep fighting the urge to chase the losses. Make the decision to stop for good.
The last casino visit, I was in line to cash out my last $15 value of chips. The cashier was kind of surprise and said good night to me. I lost my money last time, but I won my control back in that case.

That's a bit like saying that you can never again use bridges because you saw someone jump off one to his death once.
He's a classic case of overbetting his bankroll. He might have done better to play two hands for a thousand dollars simultaneously. Playing multiple hands of blackjack doesn't reduce the expectation of loss, but it does reduce the variance of the loss. He might have won one and lost one.

Anybody, including a gambler can comprehend this comment and fully understand it. But a gambler brain can easily be hijacked, and all of your points of reason go out the window. Advice is good. But the only advice that works for a gambler is, YOU must abstain and NEVER gamble to succeed.
My grandpa always said that if you win money in a casino, run away from there as fast as you can before you feel like spending it
Slot Machines are the worst. I’m a former slot player that now plays Video Poker. It’s way better but still be responsible.
Good advice, but the people represented on this show have little self/spiritual awareness; so ensconsed in materialism from the post-war era mentality. OR many are bad people, amd this is their karma coming back on them. I know a few addicted gamblers; they are rotten people and I enjoy watching them lose!
How do you sleep at night knowing you're partaking in a system that ruins people's lives?

Such a horrible feeling to blow your paycheck within 2 - 3 hours of getting it. Driving home with tears in your eyes and wondering how in the hell am I gonna pay for gas/groceries the next 13 days? Loans? Credit cards? Pawn shop? All terrible choices 😢

You’ve got yourself ,it’s you that needs to stop
True. The worst thing to happen to me is that I won. That feeling beats anything for me.
Sure does god bless
so it was banned so the casinos could get the business?
The worse thing about gambling addiction is you can lose just about everything and theres no pity from anyone , with other addictions the addiction is mitigated to an extent but because gamblers appear normal on the outside trying to explain to others about your behaviour falls on deaf ears.
Do you gamble
No none gambler can remotely understand a gambler, they only see it as crazy.
Damn that is true
The best line in this video is when Rob Hunter talks about how his patients tell him, "If I could get a thousand dollars, I"d win back my 401(k)".
Speaking as an addict, The crazy thing is even if he won the 401k, he would probably just play it back.

A real good raw rare story of why gambling at casinos isn't worth it i dont understand why this video doesn't have more views. #Growing Old Gambling.
Gamblers don't admit they have a problem so they don't seek help or view videos like these.
Elderly folks need to discover that this same joy in gambling can be had by playing video games specifically collect-a-thons.
They take gambling much more seriously and think video games are for kids.
Prohibition made gambling popular. Those elderly people won't be a demographic anymore soon then casinos will lose money probably shut down
I believe that gambling can have devastating effects on one's life.
Bottom line is that they are predatory parasites
you said it all and there is nothing else that needs to be added to it 😒
prayer for deliverence from gambling spirits
14:34 thats a very good point. No other addiction can be seen as a possible solution
How about the devastating affect on the family? It breaks up families and creates chaos long after the Gambler is gone.
Gambling is the worse addiction ever. You can lose everything. House, car, job, wife, kids, self esteem. Business and everything else. My advice is to stay away. I almost lost it all.

May Dr Hunter RIP. He was a great, wonderful man that saved many lives.

Gambling addiction is very serious stuff.
I am 75 years old and I only use my phone for phone calls.
Every time i get a Itch to go to the Casino.....I buy a $30.00 scratch off .....After i loose i am grateful i did not go to the Casino
Good strategy.
I’m gonna start doing this lol. Better to lose $30 than $300
Even better. See a movie by yourself. You still get to zone out and have the escape factor. And the reward too. Especially straight after work. Get a massage also. About 50 bucks of reward feeling and bliss. And money not wasted. You can also buy a lottery ticket.
$30 is a lot to spend on one scratch off. I would buy 30 one dollar scratch offs. LOL. But to each his own way.
When I stopped playing the slots I played online slots for free. Just to get over it. As weird as it sounds, it actually helped.

Tell yourself " Whatever it takes to get through ONE day."
call on Jesus Christ to come into your life, you will give you a NEW life.
Christ is a fake invented God. Many Churches do not even except him as a God at all.

I am from Russia. I played for 14 years and waste more than 35k $.
For US it's not huge, but in my country it's big amount

Addictions can be seen as a failure to bond. A problem gambler has bonded with the activity of gambling because they couldn't bond as fully with anything else.
Over simplistic.
The way they design these video slots should be freaking criminal. The tactics casinos use to destroy people's lives is reprehensible. I wish there was something to do about it...
The only way to win is not to play, and that means not setting foot in those establishments for any reason.

I like that stupid PSA before the video. "Bet careful , bet safe". And with a snake about to strike. It's all BS anyway. The states make too much money from casino's and not dare get rid of them. Casinos don't care but the sure try to act like they do.
Of course they don't care. They are rich pieces of s***
Casinos pay workers to do this, usually with free play to the person bringing the patients.
i like gambling and mountain climbing and both are equally enjoyable but like gambling mountain climbing can be dangerous.
The state is addicted to gambling revenue in the same way that the individual is addicted to gambling. One cannot be solved independently of the other.
im a gambling addict but I dont have a lot of time for people who dont take responsibility for their actions.
That's an interesting way to put it. I'm the same way.
There's a difference between gambling and problem gambling. Some people can gamble and set limits and know when to quit. Some people have no limits, which is when it becomes a serious serious problem.

My husband retired and is gambling his annuity away!!! He is 59
I don’t know you or your husband, but my heart breaks for you.

Shame on us for making gambling legal and so easy to access
My first Gamble was the crown and anchor wheel at the fair , midway.
I can't believe that woman is an ACTUARY. That means she works with advanced math, statistics and probability every day. Basically the first type of perspn you would expect to recognize that you will always lose money gambling long tern, and the last type of person you'd expect to be a gambling addict.
Compulsive gambling is an EMOTIONAL problem.
Most of the worst employer fraud cases were bank and finance clerks/managers. Who had a gambling problem. Just goes to show how addictive it is. That logic and reasoning is not involved. It's a dopamine high.
And thats scary about gambling. But thats reality.
No I'd say it's 100% on you. Sure the casino made it available and gave you comps but it was your choice to go back
Everyone is right about how horrible gambling addiction is.
I'd go for regular videogames without microtransactions. This way you don't risk gambling away your entire livelihood when you get hooked.
What is the average cost of a Game King Keno machine? I've always wanted to completely destroy one after losing my bankroll.
Depending on the part of the country, about $1500 plus shipping, less if it doesn't have to be a functional machine
750 thousand? Lady you were a winner already wtf!!! If you already have money like that wtf are you doing gambling?! People who are broke usually gamble, and people who enjoy it. This is a crazy story
She could've been doing cruises and travelling and so many other things that most ppl only dream about.
Jardel, a famous soccer player in Portugal some years ago...lost everythink to gambling and drugs...rich people who gambling lost everything
Greed? A millionaire wants to be a billionaire...
I love gambling- its entertaining and often times i hit the jackpot too !
Even if so. You are waisting your time and potential. Are those winnings worth it?
Can you do a follow up on this topic on the effects on gambler's children?
Hi, I'd say the impact on the children of an addict would be a significant rise in the probability of them becoming an addict too. Whether it be gambling or drinking or whatever, I think what they're used to seeing and accepting as 'normal' when growing up can then pass off in themselves as normal until the addiction takes hold and it's almost too late by the time they might realise they too have a problem. It's an interesting situation but I'd be very surprised if the offspring got 'off Scott free' so to speak.
Crystal Jackson my father lost his entire fortune of 5 million. Between the age of 70 and 75!
He committed suicide.
It affects us every day.
THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS. Burn this in your brain 109x a day.
Thank you NET but please don't show the slots on this video because addicts come here for help and that can trigger them!!!
I can't think of anything more boring than sitting in front of a slot machine for 3 hours. Gambling is the dumbest thing on Earth. There are way more problem gamblers out there then are being reported.
what do you do when the casino gives you everything... why even work...?
I am watching this so I can be prepared when I
get older probably I will leave my country and go live in the US so I need to
be prepared and hopefully not lose everything im still young now but time is
ticking away on me.
four years later and still gambling i need help
Hey Christi. I saw your comment on your post. Sorry that you are still struggling with addiction. I cannot offer any solutions, but I recognize that you are still trying to break your cycle. I am feeling in the thick of a cycle myself. Keep fighting the urge to chase the losses. Make the decision to stop for good.
The last casino visit, I was in line to cash out my last $15 value of chips. The cashier was kind of surprise and said good night to me. I lost my money last time, but I won my control back in that case.
I was in Vegas in the 90’s, casinos we’re advertising free buffet if you cash your paycheck 😮😮😮
I feel so bad for Elisabeth. That is devestating.
