As a former casino employee, I would like to give the following advice: 1. Don't play slot machines, they are addictive. 2. If you do, use only as much as you can withstand losing. Set aside before you start, never go over it. 3. If you are lucky to win a bigger win, be happy but do not think it will happen again.

Excellent advice! I never played slots until I was around 45 yrs old. I won approximately $3,500 on a $2.00 after only 3 pulls $6.00. I became addicted very soon after that "big win." But after my husband was laid off, my addiction was just about done!

It's true. I've never truly won from slots. If I did win, I couldn't walk away because of the awesome flashing lights and sounds lol, so it would end up gobbling the money I won and then some. Table games on the other hand, I have won. It's not wise to play those either, but it's the least unwise category of casino games. You can get lucky at craps, baccarat, blackjack, etc. like I have. Those are games I can truly say I've won at before. I've never really been able to say that about slots for the most part.

I worked for a casino and I play slot for enjoyment, like the majority of people. There are a minority of people who can and will get addicted to anything, food, sex etc. People with low will power and IQ will get addicted to anything. I guess it’s easy to demonize casinos because the owners are making big bucks of of people’s stupidity.

We were in a local casino awhile ago and talked to a young woman who was at a machine asking her how she was doing that day. She said she was down $2700. We asked her how often she goes there. 'Every two days.' Another guy , quite poorly dressed was feeding a thick stack of hundred dollar bills into a slot machine, and noticed that the more he was losing, the faster he fed the money into that machine.

There absolutely is a drug/chemical involved with gambling addiction, and it is called dopamine which is in the brain and is constantly released while a gambling addict is anticipating a win/reward. So, the winning part is highly addictive in itself, but the anticipation of (hopefully) winning is the huge addiction and definitely has the same effect as heroin and crack cocaine. Gambling is pure evil, and slot machines are the absolute worst.

My "system" is to set a walk away amount. I go in content on losing my entire budgeted bankroll (and not a penny more). However, I'll set an amount that if I ever reach I will walk away. For example, I might go in with $250 and say $500 is my walk away amount. I'm either leaving down $250 or up $500 or more. However, once/if I do reach that $500 the day is finished.

Stopped gambling 5-21-18 (almost a year now) and attend Gambler's Annonymous meetings weekly. For me, it's not so much about gambling but more about needing to 'numb out' and to not feel the pain of my very existence. The urge to gamble is still strongly there but through the Gambler's Anonymous program (and the help of a Higher Power) I am rebuilding a life where I don't need to escape anymore. I find it fun and exciting. However, wether I win or lose, to me it is just a form of entertainment. Nothing more. Nothing less. I don’t enjoy going out to expensive restaurants or shopping at the mall buying things I do not really need. I am not on my cell phone 24 hours a day walking around like an addicted zombie. I won 1,847 and then 800 in same day. Took the money I won and paid off the cruise partner and I are going on next year, bought Christmas gifts for my family and kept 200 of it for myself. Went back to casino with that 200 and doubled it after playing all day. (And receiving free soft drinks and free dinner) Once I doubled my money I went up to the free hotel room and slept. Left the next day. Did I want to play more? Sure! Did I wonder if I could turn that 400 into 4,000? Naturally. Technically I could have played back down to the 200 I came with. But I left. There are certain machines that I play! I never play the modern 40 line machines that tell a story! I only play the old fashioned slot machines! I never play penny or quarter slots! When I go to a Casino, I allow myself a certain amount of money to play slots! If I lose the money that I have allocated myself, then I walk away. If I win a few line hits, and make a profit, I walk away happy! If I put in $200 in a $5 dollar slot machine and win a few line hits, not hand pays but line hits that doubles my money, then I’m happy with a nice small profit! If you have a serious problem with losing your hard earned money, then seek help!

Here is a big tip. If you must play slot machines, (they are not really slot machines because there are no coins involved) do not ever play the penny slot machines or any slot machine that has more than 3 reels. The so called penny machines will compel you to play all lines. These penny machines are now costing you a dollar or more.

Here in Nicaragua there's casinos in every city. They all have old machines from the USA. Example...if it's a quarter machine, here you put in cordobas. It takes 33 cords to make one dollar.

Anyone who's playing the slot machines & has been to Casino few times, has seen or heard of addiction in one form or another. Regardless of how much you spend, you must have seen folks who are there every day spending money like there is no tomorrow. You must have heard horrible stories. Just because you are more disciplined at the Casino, that doesn't mean that others have the same capacity to control their wallet with all the temptations in front of them. tbc...

Everything that is fun can be addictive. I love slots, and celebrate the experience on my channel. There are people who go overboard with casinos -- and that relatively small group gives gambling a bad name. How many of you have been in "the zone"? Ever forget the name of your kids? Are the slots like a kiss from a lover? I guess it makes for good TV. Personally, I'll just keep having fun, and keeping my bets at fun levels.

Mr. Elliott ... it's horrible that there are people who would spend their last dollar ... or money they don't even have .. on gambling. I totally agree -- it is very unusual to have a player, a fan of slot machines defend an industry that does not normally have a human face. There are a lot of regular players who really enjoy slot machines as a recreational activity. I often forget it is even gambling. I still just play 40-cents or 50-cents a spin ... and that's enough for me.

Gambling is perfectly okay. Only take cash with you leave your cards at home and leave the keys at home only gamble what you’re willing to lose. Bring a lock box with you put your winnings in that box you’d be surprised with how much you’ve won. The issue is almost everyone puts the winnings right back into the slots. At the end of the day you should only be going there to have fun. If your not having fun anymore at the casino then go home. Listen you don’t win because you gamble. You win because you stop.
