- Welcome to this weeks woodturning video.
Woodturning - $1,000 Stash Box
In this woodworking video I use a woodturning lathe to turn a $1,000 stash box using a spalted beech burl. The base was made with beech and ash.
When woodturning a piece like I find it important to nibble away at it until I see what shape the wood wants to be, this is what is so enjoyable about woodturning.
If you find these videos entertaining I’d appreciate you like, share and subscribe.
Thanks for watching.

Hey lovely people. sorry it’s been a while since I last uploaded. We just had our second child. A beautiful little boy… two boys in total ! 🤯Im back now and have videos coming weekly again. Let me know where you are watching from.
Jack.
Congratulations on the addition to your family!
Congratulations
Congrats to your family from a fan in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. USA.
Congratulations Jack..and family !!...
Teach them well Jack and we'll have generations of turners to follow...blessings on you all...💚...🌿🌿🌿
Congratulations me too, little boy born 15th Feb 1 hr in the workshop at the lathe last 4 weeks! And no channel content, dream to get subs like yours one day 😀👍🏻
Whew I know I’m not the only one that thought he was going to spin that money into a piece!😂
Yeah he got me
I did too!
Yes I am too
😂😂😂
Man I thought the same thing to lol I thought he was gonna spinning n dicing 1000 dollars into peaces.
Looks like the swirls of the sun. Wonder what it would look like dyed orange/red like fire with a polished look.
Great idea. I’ll add it to the list 👍🏻😊
I was going to say Venus, but the sun works too
I thought Jupiter for some reason
I love the all workie no talkie aspect of your vid. Your turning and designing skills speak for themselves. Hat's off to you!! -Curt Kuhns
Thanks Curt. Much appreciated buddy. Are you a woodworker?
So clever and creative.
Not only beautiful but very useful ✌️💪💪
Maybe not now CC. Everyone knows where I keep my stash! 😂
Watching from Los Angeles.
One Jack to another.
very cool! I've crafted snack stash boxes. I have clients that hide snacks in their bedrooms to keep them out of reach of their teenagers. LOL The snack stash boxes designed as something the kids would not be interested in, such as make up boxes with a hidden tray etc. Are effective in saving the snacks for the parents. :) They do stash cash there as well. :) :)
Haha great idea. I might have to make one 🤣
Watching from Virginia, USA 🇺🇸 beautiful piece !! You can always tell when an artist puts themselves into what they make, and you've done that here !! Such a handsome work of art !!!
Thanks D. Very much appreciated 👍🏻😊👌🏻
You are the one who should lead the society because you are a fair person who knows the value of business and cares about talents Greetings to you ❤
Virginia as well 😎
Welcome back and Welcome to the World Baby Mack! Congratulations on the new addition to your family; babies are amazing little balls of wonderment - the best. And speaking of amazing balls of wonderment - once again, this had me mesmerized. Turning a big old slab of tree into something so beautiful. I could study the grain patterns on that orb for hours. Absolutely beautiful! Many thanks for posting these videos, I'm enjoying them from sunny Spain.
Thanks K. Much appreciated. I wish I was enjoying them from Sunny Spain. I was supposed to be there now but couldn’t travel unvaccinated even with a negative test. 🤔
That one dark piece looks like a map of Australia!
Nice spot Sue 👍🏻👍🏻
Congratulations Jack on the new little boy!!!
Oh my God! Wood has an amazing texture. This orb reminds me of Jupiter. I'm looking forward to the next video. From Germany with love💖
Thanks VG. Is that a baby unicorn?
@@JackMackWoodturning 😊 Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system, the fifth furthest from the Sun. It has a Great Red Spot on its side (the largest atmospheric vortex in the solar system).Well, this is the first thing that came to mind when I saw your ball😉
Yes it has got a very celestial aura. I have been debating creating a solar system to scale, but it is still just an idea at the moment.
Congratulations on the birth of your new baby boy! 🎉 The orb and stand are a masterpiece and one very clever hiding place! Love it!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Another awesome piece. Just need to find my extra roll of cash.
Only problem is it's so beautiful, that someone would steal this art piece and just luck up on an inside prize when they drop it!.lol
Haha very true. There are no burglars in these parts though. The stash is to hide my money from the wife 😂👍🏻😊
I love seeing the patterns of the grains in the wood, but what’s hidden under the bark of the burls is always a treat.
Очень красивая работа! Мастеру браво!
Do you speak English?
@@JackMackWoodturning I'm sorry my friend, no, I don't speak English
No problem. 😉😊👍🏻
Welcome back, Jack!
Nice one Josh. How’s it going?
So now when your house gets broken into and the money goes missing you know it's a viewer !
Such nice patterns, like a planet.
Congratulations on your second child from the UK.
Thanks buddy, let’s hope this video doesn’t get too many views eh 😆
The wood grain on that is stunning!!
Plus it's a clever stash! 😉
Thanks P. Would you use it for a stash?
OUTSTANDING.. your best work yet !
Nice one T. Where are you watching from buddy?
@@JackMackWoodturning the very centre of the universe. 😉
The very centre of your universe? 😂👍🏻😊
@@JackMackWoodturning you know it jack, iv seen you there.
The centre of our universe then I guess. You been turning much lately?
Looks like the Death Star. Dope
Now there’s a project. Death star stash 😂
Tank you very very very nice 👍 and good 👌 my friend Jack ❤️
No problemo buddy. Thanks for watching 👍🏻😊
Congrats on the new baby! This is a great piece. I used to make bandsaw boxes and sell at art fairs - I swear about every other person would ask “what do you do with it?” I really, REALLY wanted to answer, “well you put your weed in it of course!” 😂
😆hahaha. You should have, that’s what they were all buying for anyway 🤣… I used to turn a lot of small lidded boxes too.. I’d sell way more if I called them “stash boxes” rather than jewellery boxes 😆😆😆
Awww, congratulations on your second little boy! I had two boys first and then a girl. This was a very beautiful piece! I doubt I would ever have the $1,000 to stash in it lol 😆. Watching from the state of Georgia in the US. Loving your work, as always! 💞
Thank you julee. Two boys is just amazing. I’m over the mood. They full me with joy every day I can hardly stand to be away from them. As we say here in northeast England.. they are proper little beltas. 😉
Incredibly fascinating to watch!
Looks like a strange planet👍❤
Which one?
I think this is a really cool idea for a private stash container. You did a great job, and I love the finish.
Thanks for sharing. Felix
Nice one Felix. Is it cold in Nebraska?
@@JackMackWoodturning Actually, it Has been rather mild all winter long.
Just found channel. Watching from Philadelphia. The problem with your stash box is, It's so pretty someone would steal it not knowing what's inside! 😁. Beautiful job Jack!
Haha, should I stash the stash?
I thought the same thing. The burglar steals the box, accidentally stealing your cash. :(
I’m going to keep it in the safe 🤣
Homeboy just be going at it with no gloves, ain’t fearing splinters or nothin
I’m very afraid.. afraid of gloves and lathes.. go to Google images and search
“Degloved injuries” …
Amazing, so clever, I was watching thinking what's he gonna do then the result, genius
Nice one Sarah. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻😊😉
Absolutely LOVE the variation in colour & the patterning within the grain, especially at the 5:55 point when you start to polish it, beautiful.
Why (at 5:55) do you polish it by hand rather than using the lathe to spin it while you hold the rag & polish it that way ? Is it something to do with controllability ? or habit ? or something else ?
Love the finished globe & the secret "hidey-hole" especially with the contrast between the light wood of the "globe" & the black of the stand.
Cool👍
Thanks 🙏
Congrats to the new addition to the family.
Nice one Mark 😊👍🏻
ماهر جدآ ومختلف وفنان حقيقي.. من المملكة العربية السعودية اتابعك 🙏
Love the thumbnail man keep up the good work ! 😂
Thanks G. You been making much lately?
Great thumb.. half way through, can’t wait to see what he’s making
Very nice form 👍👍👍
Thanks Adam. Have you ever turned a sphere?
@@JackMackWoodturning a few small ones, I own the Paul Howard sphere jig ashamed to say little used. Why do you ask ?
Congratulations 🍾🎊🎈🎉!!!!!!!

@@JackMackWoodturning Congratulations on the birth of your son! Health to your family!
All hail Russia 🇷🇺
Great projects
Thanks buddy.
clickbait
How is this click bait ? 🤣
@@JackMackWoodturning Because it showed a real wad of cash in the lathe in the thumbnail, but in the video it was just wood! (implying that you would soak all that cash in resin, and then make something out of it)
*_great work without words, love it !!_*
*_Haifa, Israel._*
Nice one H. Glad you enjoyed it 😊👍🏻
Great work! Thank's👍👍👍
Nice one L. Are you a hack specialist?

Watching from Turkey 🇹🇷, that machines makes wonders, my father has one, but a strong one that can shape metal, he made other expensive machines with it, it truly is useful.
Sounds great man! He must be very skilled 😊👍🏻🙏
Wow-wow-wow!!! 💯👏💐
😊👍🏻
blessings to your family!
Thanks K. Yours too. Would you use this for a stash?
@@JackMackWoodturning I would use that for a stash. is it easy to open because I like to spend my money!
Looks like the full moon on a clear night! Beautiful work. Clever too!!
Thanks S. Much appreciated 😊😉
@@JackMackWoodturning you're welcome 😀
🤙🏻
Does, doesn't it?
I love the beginning. Perfectly shows how expensive woodworking really is.
The thumbnail with the dollar bills in the chock gives me an idea; get some of that prop money and cast a bunch of it in resin, maybe layered to increase the chances of getting visible print in the finished product, and turn that.
I might try it with singles.
😊
cant stop watching these videos....for some reason I find it very soothing to watch...
Glad to hear it buddy. Do they help you sleep?
@@JackMackWoodturning They sure do as well as my 2 kids
That is so beautiful i would never stash money in it, as it would get stolen too... 🤣✌️🤞☝️👍😮
Haha you’re right Max. 😊👍🏻
I really like how the chuck can grasp both externally and internally.
Yeah it is a great help when getting a good fix 😊👍🏻
@@JackMackWoodturning I've watched a bnch of these wood turning videos now, and, as much as I love the soothing visuals as a piece of wood morphs in to something else, I'm really drawn in by the mystery aspect. As in, "WTF is his doing now?! Why has he flipped that over? What is he making?" Trying to guess what is going on is a pleasant puzzle.
Honest to God. Had a watch winder like this! I miss it!
I’ve watched several of these woodturning vids. All amazing, but this is SO COOL!!!!
Thanks James. Glad you enjoyed it buddy 😊
Such economy of motion when you turn. A joy to watch. And the project didn’t turn out too bad either. Great job. Thanks for sharing 🌞
Cheers Ray. Thanks for watching buddy 👍🏻
Connecticut, USA 🇺🇸 and congratz on your new addition 🤩
The sawdust resettling at 4:22 had my brain going SPIDERS!!
That's really a beautiful piece, finished so lovely!! Only thing is, if someone broke into your home, looking for cash, they couldn't help but take that too, just for it's beauty and never know the $1000 was in it!!
Haha that’s a good point Joe. I might glue it to the table 😂
Good job 👌 👍 Now I gotta change my hiding stash spot..thanks bro👍👌
mini World Cup trophy!
Congratulations on your baby boy, from SoCal.
I could literally watch your videos alone and learn all I needed. Thanks mate.
Glad you are enjoying them S. Thanks man. Where in UK are you from?
@@JackMackWoodturning Ohio!! Lol.
My heart stopped when i saw the thumbnail, then i realized thats not what you were gonna do or make lol
What did you think was going to happen?
The stash...super cool!
Nice one PJ. Thanks for watching 👍🏻😊
Who would guess that's a money bank!...beautiful.
What would you guess it was ?
@@JackMackWoodturning umm...beautiful ornament...like a planet.
You find such interesting pieces of wood to transform. This is a very beautiful piece, would be great to have that much cash to stash. It sounds like you can put that cash to use, 2 boys, no wonder you bite your fingernails. lol! Congratulations, I am guessing that he would be about 1 year old now. I started watching someone else but didn't look at the name, he was doing the same kind of wood turning, I saw the hands and knew it was not you, his hands were older. I can tell that you are a young man from looking at the hands. I am watching from California, USA where no one has any cash to stash. Thanks for the entertainment and enjoy those boys while they are young, they grow up quickly, mine is now 41 and he grew up way to fast.🤑
What i like about you is you try your best to reply to each and every single comment something that not all UA-camrs do.
I think it’s very rude not to. 😊
@@JackMackWoodturning Yep you're right but it can be hard to reply to thousands of comments.
If someone breaks into your house, the first thing they're gonna steal is that gorgeous globe. 😂
But you'll still have your tools that seem to cut like a hot knife through butter.. Amazing.
What a great idea! And so pretty.
Ingenious. And very beautiful. Such graining!
Nice one R. Thanks for watching 😊👍🏻
I really 💘 the way the wood grain looks. Fantastic place to hide your money.
Nice one Margaret. Thanks for watching as always. How are you?
@@JackMackWoodturning
I'm doing okay
Creative!
Thanks M. Would you stash your cash inside though? 🤣
I really thought you were going to turn that money from the thumbnail in resin for a while there.😄
Maybe next time 🤣
@@JackMackWoodturning I didn't want you to get in trouble though.
Congratulations on your new boy, from an American who lives in Vietnam. Fascinating videos! Best of luck to your family.
Thanks LL. Where about in Vietnam? I have friends in Hanoi 😊
My Vietnamese wife and I are in Phan Thiet, which is her home town. It's on the South China Sea coast almost due west from HCMC. We're older, and decided to retire here so she could be near relatives.
Love your shop and your artistry.
1st time impressed ... endless ideas, possibilities ... loved it ... but, as usual u need the right tools, sorry; lathe, drill, sander etc ... i'm thinkin if there is anybody near me with this sort of stuff ... thanks, gb, nz
Sure there’s someone. Happy to help if you gain access 😊😉
It reminds me of the moon, or perhaps an expensive truffle candy. Congratulations on your beautiful piece of art, and your new child!
Thank you 😊
Yeah, I think I see a kind of planet, like swirling weather systems on a planet with an atmosphere… or a candy 😆😉
I love this piece ...

I have an idea that might be on purpose - that black pedestal _doesn't_ go with that beautiful ball and if my purpose was burglary I'd leave it.

Did you know before you started carving this lump of wood that it would reveal such GORGEOUS detail / grain etc ???
Yes. This is a burl which is like a wart on a tree. They are highly prized by us woodturners.
VERY NICE
