Just started reading Your Brain on Art. It notes that coloring and creating mandalas can create a calming effect in the body...so here I am! So glad I found your beautiful channel. Thank you!🩷🧡
I'm so glad my paper recommendations were helpful to you! 😃 Thanks so much for letting me know! With the right paper, alcohol markers are a dream to work with! 😍
Damn, I love your energy and the way you explain things. It's so concise while also being comprehensive and not too quick for beginners like me. Thank you so much for all your tips! :)
I am a beginner and wanted to try alcohol markers... So before I buy it, can you recommend the best brand of alcohol markers? ( Pls recommend the brand which is cost friendly as well as good while using it) .... By the way, your video was super helpful ❤..
Hi there! 😃 I wrote a page about my favorite cheap + beginner-friendly alcohol markers here, with links to where they can be purchased: www.art-is-fun.com/best-copic-alternatives I'm so glad to hear my video was super helpful to you! 🎨
First off your adorable and your delivery on camera is just great! Your happy upbeat demeanor is helpful and appreciated, so thank you! The most valuable tip for me was about PAPER! I’ve watched lots of videos and people don’t explain the differences as well as you have. Your right about paper choice being so important. After watching this video I changed the paper I was using and was floored at the difference. It was like night and day and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Thank you so very much.
Thank you so much for your kind comments, Ann!! 🥰 It means so much to me to hear such positive feedback! 💖 I'm so glad to hear that my tip about paper was so useful to you! Paper really does make a huge difference. Your comment has inspired me ~ maybe I'll make a video all about alcohol marker paper! 😃🎨
Subbed within 5 minutes! You are a bounty of knowledge and deserve a huge 🎨THANK YOU🎨 for the excellent video! I’m off to watch more of your videos. 👍🏻❤
Thanks, Christina! I've noticed that planning my colors and blends in advance actually saves me time in the long run, and makes the actual coloring go much quicker. It's great to hear that you find pre-planning to be useful too! 😃🎨✨
I knew much of the blending and did a sketchbook swatch when I first got my markers. I did not know you could mix colors that are complimentary colors to make such pretty art combinations 🤗❤️👍🏽💯
Thanks for your comment! It's definitely worth exploring what you can achieve by blending different color combos. You can come up with some fun surprises! 😃🎨✨
This video was exactly what I needed, and thanks for showing how you weigh and fill your markers for tip #7! 6:40 Speaking of mistakes and covering them up, I recently sketched a page with four simple character drawings, first with pencil, then some watercolor marker highlights, then pen outlines, erased the pencil and added acrylic paint highlights. However, I wanted to add an element and started with pen instead of pencil, and it looked so wrong that I had to color a flowing cloak over my character and then painted everyone's background in gold acrylic paint, which covered my black pen errors. I like the finished piece, but it's definitely not what I'd started out to do. 😅
Thanks for your nice comment! I'm so happy to hear that my video was useful to you! 😃 Good job on covering up your mistake! It can often take the artwork in a surprising direction! 😁🎨✨
Wow !! Thanks so much. I just bought some alcohol markers and am excited to use them but wasn't sure. I've watched a few of your videos and you've been so helpful. You're awesome!!! Btw LOVE LOVE LOVE your berets!!!

Just found your channel. Thank you so very much for these amazing tips, you have maybe kept me from selling all of my alcohol markers. I was SO FRUSTRATED, but maybe now there is hope. 😊😊😊
These are great tips! I'm a beginner and I bought alcohol markers with the bullet tip. Looks like I'll have to buy card stock if I want to properly practice coloring
You need to make TikTok’s!!!!! I was looking for tip videos on there for days and finally I came to UA-cam to see. Def would follow your stuff on tiktok
Thanks so much!! 💖 I've just started making Shorts so I'm still getting used to the format, but I plan to post on Tiktok more once I get the hang of it. 😊 I have a Tiktok but there's not much on it yet: www.tiktok.com/@thaneeyamcardle Thanks for your comment! 😃
Thanks! I've been working with them for over a year but I always feel like a kid, sloppily coloring in my linework or something, especially with darker colors. I got an OHUHU pastel set because I'm afraid of darker, bolder tones but I just received a primary set from a loved one so I'm trying my best out here. Thanks for the tips!
@stuartbates1526 technically you can use alcohol markers on canvas, but the results aren't that great - not as good as what you can achieve on paper. The colors don't lay down evenly on canvas, nor do they blend well. That said, it all depends on your personal art style. Some people might like how it looks! 😊
I've just ordered my first set of alcohol markers (Ohuhu) and I'm so happy I stumbled upon your video! These are amazing tips and I love your cheerful personality 🥰 Thank you!
These tips are extremely helpful even if *still* a bit intimidating for a complete beginner. I do especially appreciate the tips on which paper to use. The weighing of the markers I have to admit, is genius!!! I have been slowly working through your coloring books for the past 6 weeks (only using gel pens & pencils). However I wanted to start using markers because I adore your coloring examples in the books & on your website you mentioned you mostly use markers. Will be watching ALL your videos & maybe one day I’ll create the masterpieces that you do!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment!! 💖 I'm so happy to hear that my alcohol marker tips were useful to you, particularly my tips about paper and weighing the markers! 😃 It's awesome that you've been coloring in my books these past few weeks, and that my colored examples have inspired you to try markers! I hope you have a lot of fun exploring this new medium! 😍🎨
I bought them all individually, over the course of several years. In hindsight, I did wish I'd bought them in sets, to make it easier to keep track of the colors I had vs the ones I needed. 😁
@@thaneeya thank you for replying 😊 I’m curious as I’m doing, just that. Trying to figure out whether I should collect or buy in a set. Hard decision lol.
You're very welcome! 😃 Mixed media art paper could work with alcohol markers - it's definitely worth a try! How well it works depends on how absorbent the paper is. If it's too absorbent, the alcohol marker ink will sink into it quickly, making it harder to blend. Whether or not that's an issue depends on your personal art style. Also, if the paper is too textured, then the marker nibs might cause pilling. But all in all, it can't hurt to experiment and see whether you like it! 🎨🌟
@thaneeya OMGG! So, I just found your channel tonight and I am so very glad that I did. I was recently lucky enough to afford my very own set of Ohuhu Markers for the very first time in my life, and am grateful to have found you because your channel and advice will be a huge lifesaver for me going forward with my art with markers. you are the first person I have found that actually gives in depth advice about different papers to use, and invaluable advice all around about Marker art. Thanks so much! Love and Light. Namaste!
Aw thank you so much for such an awesome comment! 🌟🥰🌟 I really appreciate you taking the time to write and let me know how helpful my info is to you, as you embark on your new alcohol marker journey! Congrats on your new set of Ohuhu ~ I'm sure you'll have a ton of fun with them! Happy Art-Making!! 😃🎨💕
First time that I've seen your video, it is just great! Lot of new information and tips. Thank you so much. Again, where can I get your book " ultimate guide to using alcohol markers" Please advise.😁
Probably a silly question, but when using alcohol markers, for instance three that you're blending, can you leave the caps off long enough to do the blend, or do you constantly have to put the caps back on every time you switch? How long is too long to have one open?
I usually put the caps back on when I'm not using that specific marker, but if you prefer, you can leave them off for the short time that you're blending. It's okay to leave the caps off for a few minutes - they won't dry out in such a short amount of time. 😊
Cooool! That's great stuff to learn, and it only took me around...15 years to find a comprehensive tutorial! ;_; One thing that bums me out is that I bought watercolor paper, thinking I could use markers on it. I see that's not a good idea for the alcohol markers. Bah! I don't like the mess of painting now, I'd rather the mess of markers. LOL But I have some bristol paper left, so I'll keep up with that!
Is this alcohol marks if you blend it together like if you blend yellow, orange or any light color into dark color would it touch the others color and stay in it like the crayola markers and when the color run out do you have to go buy another new one and throw away the old one or how does it workout
I don't quite understand what you're asking in the first part of your question, sorry! 😊 I can answer your 2nd question though: some brands of alcohol markers (like Copic, Ohuhu and Blick) offer ink refills, so you can refill the markers when they run out of ink. They also offer nib replacements so you can replace the nibs when they wear out. So you can essentially use the same marker over and over. But if the marker barrel (or marker cap) gets cracked or broken then the entire marker will need to be replaced. Hope this helps! 😃
@thaneeya I mean that if you blend to color together like red and blue, would it turn to purple and while you color like yellow with dark color like dark color would it stick in with the light color and while you color with it
Hey there what’s up👋 That’s a really excellent tips you’ve done well here! I even used my Strathmore Bristol smooth paper to do all of my product, I do have great Copic, Ohuhu Markers, and Prismacolor pencils sets what I’m doing to color the Mario Movie characters! Even I do have some X press it storage markers too So hope you have a good time my friend! Wish you the best :)
One of my favorite parts was when you said "Dark to light AND Light to dark are both correct" It actually depends on the people, and how the will use the color In my case, I'm not that good with Light to dark... and I like tenebrism, but that's just my case
Thanks for your comment! Yes, it was really liberating when I realized that both ways of blending are totally valid. At first I struggled with blending dark to light, but with practice I've come to really appreciate that method. 😃
Which colouring book is perfect for alcohol markers? Can u pls help me with tis pls . I like to colour i also brought alchol markers just today and i am so confused which colouring book is perfect for it 😢😢
I have problems with coloring bigger areas. When I start coloring, ink on some parts is getting dry so when Im coming back there its blending bad with the fresh ink. Do you have any suggestions how to deal with that?
Thank you so much ~ I'm so happy to hear that you love my coloring books! 💕🥰💕 I don't have any plans to create another Christmas coloring book any time soon, though I might release a set of Christmas printables later this year... No solid plans though, so we'll see! I appreciate your interest! 😃🎨
@@thaneeya thank u so much your artwork is stunning amd so cute . Please can u show us how to colour a christmas tree during december . Lors of love ♥️🦄🌈💗💝💫
I like to use Copic Multiliner Pens or Pigma Micron Pens. Prismacolor Premier Fine Liners are also good. In general, it's a good idea to wait at least 10-20min after inking before you color with alcohol markers (you can test with different pens to see how long you need to wait). Also, sometimes paper type can make a difference in whether the pen smudges or not. Hope this helps! 😃
I'm just getting started in illustrating and I can't seem to find ink pens that don't smudge when I color over my lines with alcohol markers. Does anyone have any tips for me? right now I have Faber Castell pens in a few different sizes, several different sized Micron pens and, surpisingly, the one I use most because it bleeds the least, is my Pilot V5 ball point pen. What do you all use? Maybe my techniques wrong? All my cross hatching and fine lines smudge when I color over them!
I like Copic Multiliners, which are meant for use with Copic Markers, so they're not supposed to smudge. That said, paper can also play an important factor, because on some paper types/brands, pen ink can take longer to dry (which can result in smudging when you go over it with alcohol markers). Make sure you leave enough time for the pen to dry fully before going over it with alcohol markers. I like to do tests on new paper - I put down some pen marks and then test going over it after 5 minutes, then 10 minutes, then 20 minutes. If you still experience smudging, you could even wait a few hours before going over it with alcohol markers. If the pen ink is still smudging after a few hours, then you might want to try a different paper type. Hope this helps & good luck! 😃
@@thaneeya Thank you for replying! I just got a new sketch book from Ohuhu meant for use with alcohol markers and it's made a difference. Like you said, I think my biggest issue was not letting the ink dry long enough before coloring :) I'm going to check out those Copic Multiliners as well!
I just got my first set of alcohol markers. It’s a 48 set ohuhu from amazon(working on getting another set) I can’t afford copics 😅100 USD for 10 markers is outrageous lol Plus all the artists videos I’ve seen said ohuhu is a very close second and that’s good enough for me lol Anyways, thank you for this video! I’m not an artist I’m a colorer. So, Does anyone have any recommendations for an adult coloring book that can withstand markers? Currently I’ve been coloring in Crayola’s Mindful Meditations Mandala coloring book and the paper is withstanding but it’s not perfect. It’s a tad thicker than printer paper. Prismacolor colored pencils work great on it for sure. Using both, I didn’t think I could do that 😂 So thank you for the advice!!
Alcohol markers don't work well on canvas. They're difficult to blend and the colors tend to look splotchy and uneven. If you're feeling experimental and don't expect smooth blending, you could always try it though. Whether you like it or not depends on your art style and what you are trying to achieve. 😃

Thanks so much for your kind comments ~ that means a lot! I'm so happy my video was useful to you! 😃
One of my favorite parts was when you said "Dark to light AND Light to dark are both correct"
It actually depends on the people, and how the will use the color
In my case, I'm not that good with Light to dark... and I like tenebrism, but that's just my case
Thanks for your comment! Yes, it was really liberating when I realized that both ways of blending are totally valid. At first I struggled with blending dark to light, but with practice I've come to really appreciate that method. 😃
Gr8 dear God Bless thank you so much 😇🙏😇😇😊😊
Most welcome! 😊 Thank you for your nice comment!

Love your books sooo much . Hope u doing anotger christmas book this year❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much ~ I'm so happy to hear that you love my coloring books! 💕🥰💕 I don't have any plans to create another Christmas coloring book any time soon, though I might release a set of Christmas printables later this year... No solid plans though, so we'll see! I appreciate your interest! 😃🎨

What pen do you use for outline your drawing? Mine gets smugged while coloring
@@thaneeya thanks for replying. Will try these
Thank you

Can we use canvas paper
That's awesome that the Ohuhu sketchbook paper is working out for you, as well as waiting longer for the ink to dry! Enjoy!! 😃🎨✨
I love drawing with Pilot V5 pens, too, and I'm glad your new paper is working out!
I just got my first set of alcohol markers. It’s a 48 set ohuhu from amazon(working on getting another set) I can’t afford copics 😅100 USD for 10 markers is outrageous lol Plus all the artists videos I’ve seen said ohuhu is a very close second and that’s good enough for me lol
Anyways, thank you for this video! Using both, I didn’t think I could do that 😂 So thank you for the advice!!
what about mixed media paper?
What about canvas? Can i use these on canvas?
Alcohol markers don't work well on canvas. They're difficult to blend and the colors tend to look splotchy and uneven. If you're feeling experimental and don't expect smooth blending, you could always try it though. Whether you like it or not depends on your art style and what you are trying to achieve. 😃
What is the difference between alcohol markers and regular markers
Hi there! I made this video explaining the different types of art markers, which will answer your question: ua-cam.com/video/2M0sutwUcqM/v-deo.html 😃
