Draw with me! How I Use Alcohol Markers to Create Cute Art
From my soul, I thank you. I'll be incorporating your detail techniques into my How to Survive Trump rage coloring sessions now.
I don't care if they fade over time. I just enjoy the joy of coloring.
I've been keeping a gratitude art journal, just sketching for 10-15 mins first thing in the morning, for about 7 months now and it's certainly helped with a more positive attitude. But I've also noticed my drawing getting better and a change in my creative capacity and perspective. Definitely worthwhile.
I only use them to colour so I suppose it’s not a deal breaker but I am annoyed with the idea that my colour swatches are likely to fade. I own over 400 colours so swatching takes several hours which I am not looking forward to doing again.
I love how you painted this llama! Thanks for sharing. You’ve made me want to break out my posca pens again!
Thanks so much!! 💖🦙 I'm so happy you love my llama and that you're inspired to use your paint markers! Go for it!! 😊🎨
Wow!! What a treat to see inside your gorgeous studio - the view is just stunning! You have the most wonderful energy, it's really such a joy to listen to you speak about your process - your passion for what you do is absolutely contagious I'm in the process of trying to sort out my own, temporary, workspace but I keep putting it off because it's so disorganised and I get so stressed out looking at it (which is the opposite of what you need in a space meant for making art, obviously!!) - seeing your wonderful space has inspired me so much!! Thank you so much for sharing
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed my art studio tour, and I'm happy that you like my art vibes! It's nice to hear that I've inspired you with sorting out your workspace. Good luck with that, and try to have fun with it! I think art studios are like an ever-evolving work-in-progress, a reflection of the artist's creative spirit. So it might not get organized all at once, but that's okay, it's still your creative space! 😊🎨
Fascinating video, thank you! I'm reminded of the sculptor Eva Hesse. In her groundbreaking work, Hesse experimented with media like fiberglass and latex which in the 1960s had never been used to create fine art. When it became apparent that much of her work would change and degrade over time, her response was “Life doesn’t last; art doesn’t last. It doesn’t matter.” I've always found this to be quite comforting, in a peculiar kind of way.
Thanks for sharing the Eva Hesse anecdote and quote! Her comment is even more poignant when you consider her early death at age 34. It makes me think of the incredibly detailed Tibetan sand paintings, which they spend weeks or months meticulously creating, only to blow them away when they're finished.
i love alcohol markers and i know they fade away with time but i don t really mind it that much...
Marvellous!🎉🎉🎉❤
Thank you so much! ✨😃✨
I digitise my work on completion. Very handy - markers are so fun!
How do people sell art without knowing the properties of the materials they use, or how short-lived they are? It's like architects not knowing the difference between glass and concrete. I understand that an amateur doesn't know (or care), but when you become a professional, it's disrespectful to your customers, and it will hurt your reputation in the long run.
These are BEAUTIFUL! I WANT THEM IN MY HOME!!!!
Aw thank you so much!! 💕 I'm glad you like my colorful hybrid creatures!! 😊🖍
Thankyou for this! I am an autistic adult. I LOVE art and i LOVE "different". Sure colored pencils, paint, even alcohol markers make beautiful art BUT crayons.....crayons make it different.....just like me!
Yay, I'm so glad you enjoyed my crayon portrait video! 😃 Crayons are so fun (and liberating) to use as an adult - gotta love it!! 🖍✨
Hi! Love your art work! I would love to see more colored pencil art related videos.
Thank you so much! I'm so happy you enjoy my art!! 🥰 I'd love to make more colored pencil videos so it's GREAT to hear you'd love to see them! Hopefully soon! 😊💖
From pilipins
I love this video
Thanks so much! 😃
Yes please make more crayon videos!! I love your technique with this medium and I really wanted to get into crayon art because they work on any paper and they’re so affordable 😊 I was thinking maybe using markers as a base layer would speed up the process the same way it does with Color pencil and allow you to create more vivid work (I’ve seen people do this with car drawings)
I'm so happy you like my crayon art and want to see more crayon videos!! 😃💖 I'd definitely like to try using markers as a base with crayon on top. I've used that technique with colored pencils on top of markers and really enjoyed the process (and I LOVE how it speeds up the process LOL). Thank you for the suggestion!! 😊🖍
can you do this with only the 320 set?
That's a great idea! I don't have time to create a new color chart right now though, but I'll keep it in mind if/when my schedule clears up. Thanks for the suggestion! 😃
Ayooo! That makes so much more sense. I was thinking maybe my paper was bad quality or something, because of the weird "erasing" thing when I used the blender over the markers. Using it as a base gives much better results!
Yay! So glad my video was helpful to you! 😃
Any ideas on how to keep my acrylic markers from drying up? I get a pretty short time of use before they dry up and Have tried dipping them in water and other tips, but they're not usable. Just got my first Posca set, and they are not cheap. I hate to have them dry up, too. Thanks!
Some brands of paint markers dry out much more quickly than other brands, and luckily I've found that Poscas tend to last the longest! I've never had a problem with Poscas drying out. Just make sure the caps are on tight when you're done. If they do dry out and there's still paint inside, Posca sells replacement nibs. But in my experience, Poscas can last for years and years without drying out! Enjoy your new markers! 😃🎨
Just got some Poscas. Others I have tried like Artistro acrylic markers, dried up quickly and I am wasting a lot of money. How do we keep them from drying out? I do store them flat.
You'll be happy to hear that out of all the different brands of paint markers I've owned over the years, I've never had a problem with Poscas drying out. 😃 I've had some Poscas that sat unused for years and when I used them again, they were still as good as new! Some of the other brands dried out within months or years. With any brand, it's important to make sure the caps are on tightly and securely, but other than that, I don't have any special tips because they've lasted so long for me. If your Poscas ever do dry out, it might be a matter of the paint hardening on the nib and making it unusable. But the good news is, they sell replacement nibs! Hope this helps and enjoy your Poscas! 💖
I subscribed as soon as you warned to verify you are allowed to take the rocks from where you find them in nature, before you take them. That is good stewardship! (And great tips, thanks!)
Thanks so much! 😃🎨 I'm so glad my tips were helpful and we both recognize the importance of responsible rock gathering! 😊
I have been art'ing for about 45 years and have settled on mixed media. There are times when I draw something for someone's birthday or a holiday or even commemorate an event. I know that the card, drawing, etc. will not be kept forever like say the picture of the event. So, I keep a few of the COPIC's around because they look fresh and vibrant. However, if I am working on a piece that I plan to sell or display then I use a different medium like acrylic or oil paints. Each medium has its own advantages and disadvantages but inks and oils are where I spend most of my money. Copic can make some interesting effects and are very playful but I always tell people that they might want to keep that in a scrapbook to keep it fresh and fade-free. Also, I recommend to all artists out there to scan their work in the highest possible pixels. That way, you can add touches in Photoshop and then have it printed on high quality paper and frame it as you would a poster since its not the original. Scanning is worth every penny and these days, scanners are very inexpensive. If 3D then photography from various angles or make a video which you can slice up as you would like for a poster.
What is acrylic? Is it related to water or alcohol? Or is it another subject?
Paint, like thin acrylic paint 😊 (water based iirc)
But they arent meant for art that you hang on the wall. We used them for storyboarding, brainstorming about clothes and costumes, design options to show stuff to a customer etc.
Black is awesome!!! It would be awesome to hear how you go about using watercolor pencils ❤ Thank you so much for such great explanations ❤
Glad to hear you love the black background! 💖 Thank you for your feedback!! 😃 Someday I'd love to make a video about watercolor pencils. Thank you for the suggestion! 🎨✨
Thank you for this! Not only was it cool, but I found it inspiring for many reasons, such as the fact that yu use a lot of the same materials I love (like Liquitex), AND I love the fact that someone as talented as you also has her set of in-progress or unfinished projects; makes me feel better that it's OK to have some unfinished art, as I used to kick myself for it. My art is not as colorful as yours (yet!) but you've inspired me to be braver/bolder with my color in my art, thank you!
Thanks so much!! 😃 I'm happy that you enjoyed my art studio tours! Yes, I have a TON of unfinished art projects laying around, so it's nice to hear you can relate to that! 😊 I used to feel oddly "guilty" or "sheepish" about it, but over time I realized it's just the way it is, and that's totally okay! It's just part of the creative process! 😁 Happy Art-Making and Color-Exploring!! 🎨🖍
Awesome
Thanks so much! 😃
Very nice
Very Nice
I agree with you, that's a wonderfull way to start your day. 💖💖💖
Thank you! 😃 It really is an ideal way to start the day! 🎨🖍
I used to do this. It was so natural I didn't realize how much it was doing for me until you also put it in words. This is why it is important to listen and watch other artist. It might be a reminder or a new tips to push past a technique blundering. Thank you very much for your hard work and efforts 🤗❤️👍🏽💯
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! 💖 It's great that you can relate to the benefits of this kind of morning habit! 😊🎨🖍
@thaneeya ☺️🌸✌️
Thanks for this information. I wonder if a vinegar solution wouldn't work to help the colorfastness of the markers.
This video is so so helpful!!! thank you so much :))) also love your energy
I'm so glad you found it helpful!! 😃 It's also great to hear that you love my energy! Thank you!! 😊💕
This was a really helpful video! I googled something along the lines of whether these markers are as good as they claim, and I ended up watching your whole video because it was exactly what I needed 😊 Oh and I love your colourful style!
Thanks so much! 🥰 I'm so glad my video was helpful to you, and that you love my colorful style!! 😃🎨💖

I want the Ohuhu brush markers but their website is out of stock since Christmas 😢 I have a cheap set of alcohol markers coming so I can start colouring now then if I enjoy them I will get the Ohuhu's and give my daughter the other set 😂
That's a great idea to get started with a cheap set and see what you think! Hope you have a lot of fun with them! 😍
Hi First Thing I'm up & out at Work at 7.45 so no time to draw. But I always manage between 1.00 or just after till aleast 2.15 to Sketch, I have to use a Refrance photo of what I'm doing. Now I tend to leaving Sketches now to choose colouring in on a later Day, I find it Fun to leave them alone. I've got Crayola Twistables & pencils they are fun to use. Get different results ever time. My sketches are also there to help me with my 50 Christmas Gifts that I make, I have to sketch what I want before I put it on a Felt Sheet. You can't rub out ink on Felt, believe me I have so tried to do so. I've also used skctches in my phone that I have photographed as well, because I needed a Landscape photo instead of looking online. At the time I couldn't find my Sketchbooks & one or Two had already gone as Christmas gifts, So I want to see what a landscape would look like on a Felt Sheet, trying out different Ideas & doing a New Felt Mugs. I needed to find the correct Reference photo for Ice cream in a Mug or a Cup, I have a least 10 Sketches, but coloured them all in different shades to try & work out what works & doesn't. This time I even Sketched out Glass one's too, because I never done them before, my Badges that I did of an ice-cream were poplar along with the Mugs, but I only had 2 Designs & needed more. I'm doing Sleeping Lions, Tigers & Giraffes, a friend loved there sleeping Tiger that was Neon Threads & my Bears heads In Neon threads hats too. I'm Trying them in Cowboy hats with the Full Bear this time, fortunately I remember where my sketchbook was & working in my New little Sketchbook with Animals in Christmas hats for Next Year too, I like to get a head Start on things in April. But thought that I'd get sketches done on paper then Drawn Straight onto the Felt, the reason I know that you can't get rid of ink on Felt is I did a Sloth without a Sketch & it looked Terrible & I couldn't tell what I had done incorrect, until I looked one up & did 4 Sketches. The answer was the arms & nose were off & the Fur lines as well. Thank you ⭐⭐⭐⭐
That's great that you have a creative routine that works for you and your schedule! 😃 Sounds like a lot of fun sketching and making your Christmas gifts. Very inspiring! Thank you for sharing!! 😊🎨🖍
I love seeing your creative process. This was very affirming and inspiring. Drawing is too stressful for me, but lately I’ve been working a few minutes on a puzzle in the mornings. It gets my brain going and I love seeing the colors come together like when I color. I typically spend my late evenings coloring, and when I’m not obligated to anything, I like to start my day with it for a bit. Thanks so much for sharing this new routine!
Thank you so much, Christina! 💖 I'm glad you enjoyed my video. It's neat to hear the different ways you incorporate creativity into your routine, whether puzzles or coloring. I know what you mean about seeing the colors come together when you work on a puzzle. I've been pecking away at one of my diamond paintings for a few minutes every day, and it's a good way to get my brain going when I'm feeling sluggish! 😊
Amazing! Congratulations!!!❤
Thank you so much!! 😃

Fantastic video! Love the idea of drawing as soon as you wake up! One of my goals this year is to keep a sketchbook where I don’t use any references and drawing in it first thing in the morning is a great idea! Thanks for sharing! Also, your pencil pouch is so cute! 🧡💕🦋💕🧡
Thanks so much! I’m so happy you liked my video and my pencil pouch! 🥰💕 That's awesome that you want to have a reference-free sketchbook this year. At first I was worried I'd run out of ideas, but it's amazing how the ideas can flow from your imagination once you get started! Enjoy!! 😃🎨🌟
Love your sketchbook❣️. Thank you for sharing❤
Thanks so much! I'm so happy you like it! 😊💖🎨
