Mr. Cabral, thanks so much for your helpful videos and advice. They helped me train my 1 year old yellow lab. Do you have any advice in keeping your dogs focus while in a heel. My pup ( Belle) knows heel very well both on and off leash but after walking for 5 minutes she stays in a heel however she does not pay attention to me. She is a very toy driven dog so a treat is not a high value reward for her. I have tried constantly changing direction but this only seems to frustrate her and loose even more of her attention. I use a prong collar with a pull tab and this helps a little. I walk her for about a mile each day. Would the e-collar help in any way? Thanks for all you do! Sorry this was so long.

I have a philosophical question that has been bugging me.
Base on your experience,
Can a well trained Dog chose not to obey? Meaning does he have free will or through training we ingrain the desire behavior that he can’t ignore?
brilliant question.... don't say that too often. I believe that with the domestication of the dog we have mutated the desire of free will through training. I believe the dog's free will becomes more hinged on the desired response of the human and the dog acquiesces to that. So basically the dog is conditioned to make the human happy and that desire outweighs their "free will" if they are trained. Thats just what I've seen in well trained dogs. In most other dogs they opt for their own desires. :)

I believe keeping that in mind will in some way deepen the bond between the dog and the owner and make training more of a mutual benefit activity rather than something the dog does for us.

any treat you recommend for dog on BARF diet?
I've been trying to figure out how to get my girl to look at me. We will work on this.
My dog is past the treat portion of it and does not care if I have a treat for him or not. Once he is walking with me, he will never look at me. How do I train him to look at me while we are walking?
Is it possible that you have rewarded your dog too often, or simply at the wrong time and/or for the wrong reason?
Find another reward. Ur getting boring
Another option (better imo) is to do the "look" from the standing position, rather than sitting. That way the dog doesn't assume it's an automatic sit being incorporated with a look. Just my two cents.
Your 'option' is no better or worse. It is simply a different option for another purpose or goal.
Why always jerky type treats and not cookies type? And cookies type meaning like kibbles right?
I have one doubt. Can we just use the Dog's Name? Do we need to add "LOOK" after the name later on?
You don't "need" to add the command later on, however you must think about what you want your dog to do, when you say a certain command/signal (and the name of the dog is a command as well!). When you just want your dog to look at you until released when you call him/her by its name, then you don't need a seperate command. However, most people use the dogs name as a recall as well and you don't want to mix those two up (in fact, you don't ever want to mix up commands up).
I personally use "look" as an intermediate command, something I mostly use only to help my dog understanding certain exercises that involve looking at me. And on top of that, think about how often you call your dog by its name, even when you don't want anything from it. By that, you are slowly burning the behavior you just taught your dog because he/she is less likely to show it, when there is no proper reward for it.
Why no cookie type treats ???

I always use a long line during training beginner dogs to keep them from failing by running away. I want the dog to succeed... if they stay near me, they have a better chance to succeed!

Thanks for another great video, I use the look n my pup does great instill there's outside distraction then all bets are off, lol. But for only working with him less than 2 wks he's doing goog thanks to your training videos n tips
my dog doesnt care about food or toys when he is otside
I watch a lot of his videos and what I see is a dog that is already conditioned to do whatever the command is. Let us see a puppy being conditioned. He is not the only one.
