I couldn’t find any shake off stuff, but I found another great deterrent called Australian Shepherd. I haven’t seen a squirrel on my yard in a long time.
Thank you ace hardware!! I recently bought a house and was SOO disappointed no flowers came up in my flower bed! I'm following this advice so I can have a beautiful garden next year!
Funny seeing you here, Petey. Been following your channel since about 2015, and I’m happy to see you’ve bought a house and life seems to be going well for you :)
I love tulips. My parents outside garden is absolutely FULL of them every spring. We don’t have a cottage garden, it’s more modern as we live in a new house but every spring our garden is full of them and it looks really good in a modern garden, just gives it a pop of colour. I remember when moving from my old house 2 years ago as soon as we sold my mother was out there digging up all her tulips, she’s been growing them for 20 years.. way before I was born and it had taken her a full week to dig them up in her free time- and we drove by last spring (a little nosy hahah) and she still missed some! Lol
The first video that came up in my search and the best. Less than 4 mins long and I know what to do and the bulb tool is a real bonus now all I have to do is find the UK equivalent to your products. Thank you so much. My tulip bulbs have come from fresh flowers that I received as a present. I was supposed to dry them for 1-2 weeks before replanting them but forgot them for 3 weeks. Even if they are dried out can I still plant them in the garden or should I throw them away? and start again
Awesome information thank you, answered all my questions! One year I went through all the process was so excited, Then nothing happened. Then I found out that I had planted them upside down. And sideways. I didn’t know it had to be the tip up! :(
I planted 95 Tulips before Dec 1st, had completely forgotten bout them. I i saw a few heads barely coming through the pine straw. I didnt think bout the mulch and slow release fertilizer. I will get some.
great video. I just came across some bulbs that I had pulled out last year. can I plant them now just to preserve them? if they start to flower I plan to cut off the buds to put energy in to the bulbs. ty 🙂
Hi Jack, Thanks for watching! If you pulled them out last year, they may have dried out, but it’s worth a shot to see if they still have some life in them. Hope this helps!
My husband gave me tulips 🌷 for Mother’s Day that were forced to bloom in a vase with an inch of water. Can I hold onto the bulbs until the fall?. We live in Lansing Michigan
Hi There, The Shake-Away Fox Urine Granules (Shake Away's Small Critter Granules) repel rabbits, such as prolific cottontail rabbit. It also repels groundhogs, woodchucks, and other small critters such as gophers, and porcupines. Hope this helps!
Great video! I received bulbs for Christmas. I’m in CA and the temps are in the 60’s (low 70’s some days) We have 50 degree weather for a few days and temps in the high 30’s low 40’s at night and rain for a few days. Can I plant them now? Thank you!
Hi There, Yes, tulip bulbs will come back year after year. They bulbs typically last three to five months. Critters do love to snack on them, so keep that in mind if they don't pop back up.
Hi There, Planting bulbs in the early spring will not allow enough time for them to chill and absorb nutrients. You can plant them now, but they will likely not bloom this year.
Hi There, Tulip bulbs are good up to one year, so you're good there. Texas is an interesting state because the hardiness zones vary throughout the state. Any tulip planting should take place around the time of the first frost, which occurs as early as the second week of October in north Texas and as late as mid-December in south Texas. Keep an eye on that frost. :) Hope this helps!
I'm not a professional gardener, but i've never had any trouble with leaving my bulbs in the ground. One particular patch has been I there for almost 15 years and still gives yearly flowers :)

For much of the country we've had a mild November and December. If the ground was soft when you planted then you should be ok. The only thing that may be the problem is scrounging critters like squirrels getting to them for their winter supply.
Hi Rubina, If you live in Northern California between September to December is ideal For Southern California, the time period is shorter. Planting from mid-December to Mid January is best. Hope that helps!
Hi Margareth, Each store carries different products, you will need to contact the Ace Indonesia to see if they are carrying tulip bulbs this season! Happy planting!
Hi Sheryl, November and December are good times to plant in that zone. Just be mindful if a frost warning is in the forecast and get them planted before that occurs. Tulips prefer a site with full or afternoon sun. In Zones 7 and 8, choose a shady site or one with morning sun only, as tulips don't like a lot of heat. Soil must be well-draining, neutral to slightly acidic, fertile, and dry or sandy. Hope this helps!
Hi Arnel, The bulbs will need to go through a cold cycle. Being they are in a warm climate they would need to treat them as forcing bulbs. Store the bulbs in dark bag (Brown Paper Bag) in a cooler/refrigerator for 12 weeks. Once they have been moved from the cooler the bulbs can be potted and they will grow and bloom as normal. For best results the bulbs should be planted before cooling but they can be cooled prior to planting for space reasons. Once potter the tulips should bloom in 3 to 4 weeks or less. The bulbs would then be disposed of as they will not survive more then one season. Hope this helps! Good luck!
Hi Mark, Tulip planting varies around the world. When you live in an area where the temperature drops below freezing temperature, you need to plant your bulbs before the time it starts freezing. For most of the world, the best time to plant is in October and early November, about 6 weeks before the ground freezes. If you look at a the bulb packaging it should list the best time to plant based on your region. Good luck! They are a beautiful surprise in the garden!
Instead of Shakaway, why not just use one's own urine (age it a few days for stronger smell)? Are we not considered "predators" to the average squirrel? Plus, the soil and other plants love urine.
Hi Sil, Unplanted bulbs go bad fairly quickly when not planted. If your bulbs are unplanted from over a year, unfortunately they are no longer good. As for bulbs planted, as long as critters didn't get to them they can pop up for several years. Hope this helps!
Hi There- Tulips do well when the soil is loose. Since they need to "break through" the soil, crumbly vs. clay like helps. If the soil is too wet or soaked, they could rot. Hope this helps!
What are the best tulips to plant for what I live in Upland California, The ones Shady area because most My area in front of my house there’s shade, Of course it doesn’t snow Where I live.Another thing the area that I would like to place near is my rules bed I have a place there for my tulips next to them and how many you think I should get I think my area cover at least 8- 10 Tulips it’s not a big area , I live in a senior citizens and community. 🥰👩🏾🦲😘 The little gadget that you have to dig a hole 🕳 is that gadget the right inches to place the bulbs in?
Hi Juan, We suggest you replant in a new spot, even the ground is soft enough to remove. Perhaps the soil temps were too high, the bulbs were not deep enough or you had a bad batch of bulbs.
Hi Diana, Sorry about that! The depth should be three times as deep as the bulb is high, and place the bulb at the bottom with its pointy end up. Happy planting!
I have no idea how to plant tulips...this video makes it look very easy. Thanks Ace Hardware. 😊👍

Hey Michelle,
Well, on a plus side the squirrels didn't get to them. :)
After you plant the bulb, press the dirt down with your foot so it's firm. The squirrels will leave them alone.
I recently started putting chicken wire with addition to pressing dirt.
Not true. It takes seconds for them to enjoy their buffet.
Just planted my bulbs this morning 😀😀; Thanks for this Tip
Wow, thanks. I learned something today.
Can I still plant tulips in the spring and have them bloom this season?! I live in the Midwest.
Hi Molly,
You can plant them now but they won’t bloom until the spring. The soil is too cold in the Midwest. Hope that helps!
Question…after the bulbs grow…the tulips comes out and everything…do I add more shake away and fertilizer? Or is just when I plant the bulbs?
Great question Giada! Yes, adding Shake Away when the tulip petals appear will help reduce rabbits from eating your tulip petals. :) Pesky rabbits!
I planted 95 Tulips before Dec 1st, had completely forgotten bout them. I i saw a few heads barely coming through the pine straw. I didnt think bout the mulch and slow release fertilizer. I will get some.
It take bulbs about 40 days to chill in the ground and another 60 days to bloom by the middle end of May. Happy digging!
I bought tulip bulbs recently and it’s very close to spring time, should I wait until fall to plant these or will they not survive until then?
I'm in Illinois what month should I plant them
Hi Stella, October is a great time in Illinois to plant!
I think I’ll give it a try

Best time to plant on the Oregon Coast?

Damn, no answer. That happens. Vote red Michigan.
I live in south west Florida.. got tulips for Mother’s Day… what do I do with them after thru bloom?
Vote for DeSantis., but I'm a hunter during with these bulbs in my truck trying to figure out myself because I am the one who got some
Great 👍 ❤
Will this shake away stuff help keep groundhogs away

Best before frost. Maybe October be good idea
Thanks so much
it's april 25th, can i still plant now?
Do tulips clump and come back year after year, or is it best to plant fresh bulbs annually?
Hi There,
Yes, tulip bulbs will come back year after year. They bulbs typically last three to five months. Critters do love to snack on them, so keep that in mind if they don't pop back up.
Thank you.
Can you plant in March or is that too late 😬? I want to plant now
Hi There,
Planting bulbs in the early spring will not allow enough time for them to chill and absorb nutrients. You can plant them now, but they will likely not bloom this year.

I plant Tulip first week of this month. I live in PA, would it still grow? Not sure if I'm late for this.

Is It ok to plant bulbs in Winter (Italy) if i keep them inside? (17-19 Celsius)? Is It ok to put them out with 2°celsius(min) temperatures?
Hi Nada,
Ciao! As long as the ground is not frozen you can plant them now at least a foot deep. Hope this helps!
After sowing tulips ,when to water tulips
Should we wet the ground?
Hi There - Yes, watering after planting is recommended. Happy planting!

I leave in the Philipines and bought several bulbs in London. Do you think it will grow in tropical weather.

When are these wild tulip bulbs available at ace hardware?
Hi There - Tulips are available in fall in many Ace locations. You may see them in Spring, with the intention of growing in a pot indoors.
Instead of Shakaway, why not just use one's own urine (age it a few days for stronger smell)? Are we not considered "predators" to the average squirrel? Plus, the soil and other plants love urine.

what types of soil do they like?
Hi There-
Tulips do well when the soil is loose. Since they need to "break through" the soil, crumbly vs. clay like helps. If the soil is too wet or soaked, they could rot. Hope this helps!

what happens if you plant them horizontally?
In most cases the bulbs will figure out how to thrive and correct themselves. Bulbs should be planted pointy-side up to ensure a successful growth.
Hello, just found your video. On what season is the best to plant the bulbs?
Fall, more specifically October, is the best time to plant bulbs!
I planted them one month before frost and then my bulbs sprouted out before winter... what should I do?
Hi Juan, We suggest you replant in a new spot, even the ground is soft enough to remove. Perhaps the soil temps were too high, the bulbs were not deep enough or you had a bad batch of bulbs.
So you don't water them?
Through the fall and winter, you only need to worry about watering your bulbs if you're having a particularly dry season.
Chicagoland staple!
Thank you! Last time I planted them my labs dug them up and ate them. Why are they so tasty?😂
Tiptoe through the window
By the window, that is where I'll be
Come tiptoe through the tulips with me
Why aren't you taking care of that worm???????
You don't say how far down you have to dig the hole to put the bald in
Hi Diana,
Sorry about that! The depth should be three times as deep as the bulb is high, and place the bulb at the bottom with its pointy end up. Happy planting!
I think I can use used cat litter That will work no need to buy any shake away My cat is a predator
Rip worm 😭
Buy your bulbs bulk from a reputable Barb dealer. You’ll get a nicer looking plant and better bulbs not to mention better price
Thank you
