What I learnt: 1. Plant in Oct/Nov; 2. About 10 bulbs in a pot that size; 3. Add broken pieces of pot at the bottom to aid drainage (or stones, or plastic pots upside down); 4. Plant about 20 cm deep; 5. Position about 5cm apart; 6. The cold of the winter will activate them into growth; 7. They’ll emerge from late April. Many thanks, very useful video :)
@@vikkidavies2144doesn’t it depend on where you live? It gets quite chilly here in Colorado … I’ve tried this years ago and I think my bulbs froze cuz they never came up 🤔😕
Broken pots are fine for drainage but they make your pots heavy. Use packing peanuts bc they are lightweight and never deteriorate. I save all of the peanuts that come to my house and I have bought bags of them. I fill my pots about 1/3 rd full.
I’m a newbie. Looking for clever ways to fill the tall vases with something besides expensive soil, I used the idea of styrofoam peanuts. They worked great until it rained A LOT. My husband and I were amused when the soil appeared to grow an inch or so over the top of the vase. The peanuts soaked up the water and swelled. DUH! This gardening thing is very challenging and sometimes pretty funny!
Hi there, Dana from Pa. Was wondering if you cover your pots with anything in winter. I've used good potting soil, bulb tone. But so worried aboit freezing temps.
Great video, thank you. I have some tulip bulbs that were dug up in my front garden, I want to put them into containers, so all the information I needed 👍
I may have missed something. Where do we store the pots for the next few months. In a shed? Just leave them out? What about squirrels, etc? Thanks for this. ♡
I've never had a problem with squirrels but that's not to say it can't happen. I heard that if you sprinkle coffee grounds on top, that will discourage them. Also, a piece of wire or netting would work also. I put my pots under an overhang to prevent constant soaking of rain or melting snow. I also make sure the pots don't dry out completely - just a slight watering once in a while to keep things slightly moist. If it gets really cold where you are, wrap the pots with some kind of insulation (paper, old sheets, plastic bags, hay/straw) just to keep out the extreme cold.
great video. I just came across some bulbs that I had pulled out last year. can I plant them now just to preserve them? if they start to flower I plan to cut off the buds to put energy in to the bulbs. ty 🙂
When you you start to see first signs of growth please? (I know full bloom in April roughly( but when will I see signs they're successfully growing please? Xx great video btw xx
Is this pot 45 cm deep? I assume you are filling 1/2 way at 20cm deep with 20cm deep of soil coverage (40cm). Thus leaving approx a 5cm lip at the top of the pot?
I did this on New Jersey and got root rot and no tulips at all. How do you prevent that from happening? I cannot plant in the ground. I have deer everywhere.
I've been told that Tulips (unlike Narcissus/Daffodils) don't naturalise in beds but I have not come across an 'instruction' to reflesh them after die-back (even though I do it). Is it advisable? btw, always a good idea to label your stuff in pots or in the ground!!
Hi Naomi I'm new to gardening & only planting my dwarf tulips in March this year, I have shoots the now, bit they dont seem to be flowering, did I plant them to late?
From what I've read about the hybrids that can be bought from Farmer Gracy, they're not guaranteed to come back year after year because they aren't native to the UK. They might come back but when they do they will look more and more faded and tired each year. So what people do after the first year is plant the bulbs in the flower bed instead and hope for the best.
Tulips are said to not come back when planted in pots from what I researched last year, though maybe you can pull them up, dry them out, then chill and replant again in new soil, and a clean pot.
@@bagel011 ......that’s exactly what I do, once a week. Last season I planted Tulip bulbs in 2 big pots in Zone 8. We have fairly mild winters, but quite a few very cold periods in January and February. I kept the pots on my patio...covered them with towels every night 29 degrees and below.....and when Spring arrived, I had 2 very gorgeous displays of Tulips. One pot was solid red with double head bulbs.... and the other pot was multi-colored. Hoping to have great results again this year with multi colors again.... and I added a different variety in a second pot this time, Ice Cream Tulips.
Hi Gracy Could you please let me know what can be wrong with my cherry tree. I have had this tree may be for about 8 years. I have it in a pot because the parrots that comes to eat the fruits. For the last 2 years the fruits are not fleshy. Just skin around the stones. I put fertilizer and water regularly. Any suggestions?

I loved this video. Can’t wait for you to do lasagna planting. It was the first one I watched from your channel. I was thrilled when i clicked in and saw you had loads of videos on dahlia. You’ve a lovely voice and explain things very clearly. Use your talents. !

I’ve put my pot in a sheltered position, under a lean-to. Does the pot need to be exposed more?
Can i use potting soil for this or do i need regular soil?
I live in zone 5, -20C outside is OK?
Thank you your video about planting tulip in pots, very useful.
That was so very useful. Thank you! I have bulbs from you and it’s my first time of planting them.
just planted my Orange Princess
Good work! 👏
I would love to see updates on all of the bulbs you plant!! 🌸
Can u help me
Where should the pot of bulbs be put for the winter months? Outside? Inside? Dry place? Wet Place? Thanks for the video!
Outside is fine😊

I mix potting grit with the compost and add a layer of grit on the top and then pat down level.
I wish I knew where people keep getting broken pots from for drainage,I never seem to have any !
Check out your local garden centre or simply break one.
Hi there, Dana from Pa. Was wondering if you cover your pots with anything in winter. I've used good potting soil, bulb tone. But so worried aboit freezing temps.
I live in zone 5. Should I leave my planted pots out in the weather? Or put them in a shed or garage?
I did it the same and had good luck with some and some didn't do so well. The only thing I didn't do was the added crockery in the pot bottom.
Thanks
Really good presenter.
Will this method work in Canada's -20 or -30 degree weather (the coldest of our winters not always).

So how long do Tulips live throughout summer? And are they perennials hence will they re-flower the following year?
Great video! since those are perennials planted in a pot how will they come back in the summer if not planted in the ground?

Do I have to cover my potted spring bulbs with a black bag until the spring?
I'm in California and planting now in December, so no watering?
i was curious, i want to ask if a tulip bulb already bloom, after it having flowers.. does the plants going to die?
Question: what is the diameter of the pot?
Do you not need to surround the pots with protection from the frost
Thank you

What size is the pot? I want to plant 10 bulbs in a pot, but don't know what size I need. Is that a 30cm or 40cm diameter pot?

Yes they do
I like 🧡
How much should I water these? Because mine have reaaaally short stems and some of the articles online show that watering could have been an issue.
tulips do not need much water as they can live in dry soil. I suggest to water them only once a week~

You don’t mention anything about watering?
Nice video. Q: Do I need to buy new bulbs for the next year or they last many years?
I have the exact question..hope someone will answer😩
Tulip bulbs will need to be dug up in early summer. Let bulbs air dry out of direct sun then divide and replant in the fall
