You think the type of motor makes any difference? Modern ICE vehicles are nearly all drive-by-wire, brake-by-wire, electronically controlled transmissions, etc. Hell, many have remote start/stop and push-button ignitions. With a few servos and RF units, you could remotely control the majority of cars made today. They could literally start your car and drive it down the road, from the other side of the world.
I have no use for EVs but to pretend they need EVs to exist in order to control cars is just ridiculous.

I want footage of the LA freeway about the time these cars hit the road. Driving through LA is an exercise in evasive maneuvering. About the time these cars start "safely" pulling across 5 lanes of traffic to stop - because the drivers swerved "too many times" - it's going to be pure chaos. Then the ones behind them will do the same, as those drivers try to avoid the cars ahead of them. It's going to be absolutely insane. On the right day, the I-5 might back up, all the way to Mexico!

My Ideal mode of Transportation would be a car and a truck from the 70's. Easy to work on , no expensive electronics to give out on you. No pollution devices , No government control... You can find a good specimen and totally rebuild it for 10-15 thousand dollars.. New or slightly used car prices are astronomical... And are Junk... Imagine paying 45-50K for something , and after the warranty expires , you need a $7.000 transmission... GTFOH

Truck drivers already dealing with this. There's a camera that that watches 24hrs a day. It could tell you if you're sleepy, pick up your phone, roller red light or stop sign. Speed, in the wrong lane, if you can think about it it'll tell you about it. It actually makes driving a truck feel creepy. Like there's someone watching the camera being inappropriate.

How and when were we, the American drivers and car purchasers, going to learn about this "addition" to the new automobile "safety" this kind of oversight? For that matter, when did members of Congress learn about this? The funding bills that have just been rolling over each year, with thousands of pages, probably include items that have yet to be discovered. Personally, I want to see an amendment that would require every budget bill or funding bill be handled as a single item, the way it is this year. I can't believe that the department of Homeland Security is even paying colleges or universities for anything! Why is the university not paying for its own security ?

State Farm puts a 'Bug' in your car to promote safe driving. It also tracks every mile by Google Maps, knows where you have been, and the exact route you took. Also monitor's your braking, acceleration cornering, and phone use. Big Brother is WATCHING!

Not if they are an integral part of the electronic control for the car's ignition system. This applies not only to EVs but ICE vehicle. Unless you plan on removing all the electronics in your car and replacing them with Points, Condensers, Ignition coils you will be locked in to these Black Boxes of Communist Control.

News flash: Once you all have push-button ignitions or remote start/stop functions, it won't matter at all what kind of motor is under the hood. New cars have drive-by-wire, break by wire, electronically controlled transmissions, etc. The motor has nothing to do with it. Most cars manufactured in the last 20 years could be retrofitted with a control module in under an hour. Oops.

How about this one I just found out about: In KY, you have to have a fishing licence to fish on YOUR OWN PROPERTY if it is not at least 5 acres. In "red" KY!! It's a new reg that recently went into effect.
If it's your property (private property) then noone is going to be patrolling it checking for fishing licenses.

Maybe if they would concentrate on their real duties and not out looking for something to do, the substantial things might start getting done. I can come up with a dozen reasons this is a bad idea and maybe two where it might be a benefit. Why aren't car companies coming up with these suggestions and the consumer decides? If the government can't find things within their realm to do then maybe they don't need to be full time employees!
LMAO. My business partner invented that switch in 1986 and sold several thousand of them. It never caught on throughout the country. His name was Ed Imondai and the companies name was called Global Switch-all from RI. He lost the patent Pending because 17 years before that Radio Shack had a toy car that could stop in the same way and by making the car bigger did not mean the the item was new. We closed the company.

With the increase in car jackings, it is not inconceivable that to escape a dangerous and deadly attempt at jacking your car, or worse (bad guys plan physical harm as well), one might have to suddenly slam on the breaks, put it in reverse suddenly, backing up rapidly, then putting in gear forward and weaving around jackers blocking the path to escape. Three swerves and your car dies. Then what?
Congressman, we are being forced to listen to a warning chime every time we get in and out of a car if the seatbelt is not on. That is also unnecessary and intrusive. There are many situations where not wearing a seatbelt is safe.
All these nanny devices need to be able to be shut off by the owner of the vehicle, unless it has been ordered left on by due process in court after a conviction for driving offenses.

The State Farm driving device does monitor your habits and it sets your insurance rates based on it. The technology already exists.
Insurance companies can't shut your car down though.
It's voluntary. Customer can get lower insurance rates if they demonstrate smooth, controlled driving habits. They don't have to participate.
That tech will not shut a vehicle down, however.
