    Great video....back in the day, I had a 95 gts Mustang. I wired a kill switch to the fuel pump inertia cut off switch. I wired it to the truck pop switch in the glove box...so it looked stock, & easily reached from the driver's seat. On 4 different occasions it was broken into...but they never could figure out why it wouldn't start....lol. Best $20 I ever spent.

    My old bronco didn't have doors or a full roof.I used the safety switch on the clutch,the one that keeps the truck from starting if the clutch isn't engaged.ran the wires under the carpet and added a cheep after market horn button under the carpet just in front of the seat Left side.So to start the truck you put it in neutral stepped back with your left foot.pushing down on the horn switch.Turn the key and she fired right up.I lived in apartments for years drove that thing everywhere and it was never stolen.

    I like that this mod is reversible - you're not cutting into any existing wiring, you're only pulling a fuse. The only non-reversible changes you're making is cutting a little plastic around the fuse box, and whatever you did to mount the switch. Nice.
    The only thing I might add is camouflage to the wire/fuse to make it appear factory installed, and a window sticker advising you've got some sort of theft deterrent on board.

    ALWAYS!! place a fuse inline close to a live/power of your wire in case it gets shorted to the ground by accident. You do not want to cause fire or fry any wire in the fuse box will cause any nearby to be shorted as well when the wire melts insulation. I would tap from the fuse side under/inside the box to be more discrete on the installations and would have left the fuse in placed like nothing was tampered..

    Recommend that you get On/Off switch to carry enough Amperage to handle the current from that Fuse. On/Off Switches of 15 Amps are out there and will normally be heavy enough. Same for the Guage of Wire, heavy enough to carry Amperage or you could have a Fire.

    I saw a video that used one of the screws in the dashboard and there were plenty of them.Anyway the driver just touched that screw and that completed a ground that allowed the car to start.Guys in highschool with jeeps ect,had several toggle switches in a row on the dash.They had to be up or down in the correct order in order to start the Jeep.They could change the order when they wanted.

    Great video. I also like that your not messing with OEM wiring. Obviously, just putting in a new fuse would bypass the switch but you have added a crap ton of trouble shooting for the thieves.

      Everyone just says they can swap a fuse. Of course they can. But it’s gonna take some time to do it. Most thieves are looking for a quick in and quick out. Thanks for watching!

    Sure someone can open the hood and maybe notice this, but then again thieves are not trying to stick around and fix your truck to steal it, they will just move on to easier pickins.

    • @brendonrutherford5118
      @brendonrutherford5118 5 місяців тому +1

      Yes indeed thieves would perhaps notice the obvious extra wiring emanating from the sides of the fuse box etc & in that case I would have used black wiring or even covered it with heat shrink so the additionally installed wiring looked (not necessarily though) more or less part & parcel of the original vehicle wiring. Having bright red coloured wires which stand out like the proverbial so obviously makes the whole setup look as though something has been added on & for whatever purpose!! Every effort should be made to hide as much as possible of the additional wiring plus ensuring that it looked like factory specs as far as practical otherwise you may as well simply attach a name label to what you have just installed. Overall though an excellent idea & a really low cost vehicle security feature which just requires a couple of minor cosmetic tidy ups!!

    If this was a non immobilizer equipped vehicle then I would agree to installing something but i would suggest a magnetic kill switch behind the dash. Way easier to install and better security than a switch.

    Could you cut the starter solenoid wire and insert the switch there? Put the ON-OFF-ON switch to wire the horn to one ON position and the starter solenoid to the other. When armed the horn is on when someone tries to start the car. When disarmed, the car starts normally.

    Use the fuse box and search for the relay. use a magnetic switch like a spst and install it in the framing of the front door behind the panel or next to where you put your cups on the door. To start the car, just put a magnet where only you know where it is.Its better to actually cut the wire beneath the fuse box so thieves cant put a new fuse in.

    • @5starplumbingservices777
      @5starplumbingservices777 2 роки тому +7

      Try this and install it behind a panel. You will need a strong magnetic like on a keychain so when you start the car, you need to place the magnet next to the reed switch. The only difference with this install for diesel trucks being stolen alot, you need to interrupt the relay of the fuel pump. The reason the relay is its better because one of the wires is the signal, which is low voltage and low amps. you don't have to worry about the wire melting or anything like that. The relay does the job for you with the heavier gauge. In addition, the setup is hidden and there is no switch visible. Its best to put it behind the door panel inside the aluminum framing. Its recessed switch so even better. Also, the fuel pump disconnecting is alot better than messing with the ECM. If the module messes up your talking about thousands. The fuel pump is WAY cheaper... I wish I had a picture of the setup for my friend I did.

    Consider the 120 volt 60 minute clock timer used on bathroom heaters..You turn it to load the spring, then it always turns itself off. You never must remember to do a thing to prevent anyone from turning the engine over. The timer is installed on the wire that goes to the starter solenold if you dont turn it, the engine will NOT turn over

    Good video, but anyone who knows anything about vehicles who is looking to steal that and you don't get power is gonna pop the hood. They are gonna remove that funny wire looking setup to the fuse and pull a non necessary fuse from the box fuse box and off they go.
    If you are going to do it, you need to hide the wiring completely. Otherwise this just slows them down. You could remove the fuse box all together and wired it under the fuse box.
    Good video of the install.

    These are great. Personally, I would have gone with the other circuit that allows the engine to crank for two reasons. First, that cranking noise might alert me to someone trying to steal my vehicle. Second, it makes the bad guy think that there might be a mechanical problem with the vehicle instead of a kill switch being installed. Your circuit makes it obvious that a kill switch is in play, and you don't get the benefit of being alerted to someone trying to steal your vehicle.

      That's a very good point Sir! Also, I'd suggest to use a round on/off rocker switch as it's fairly low profile and hence less visible. Would also need to route the wiring through to the switch of course, along inside the center console, and drill a hole through to accommodate the switch (say a standard 20mm dia hole made with a hole saw). Good idea to run away as soon as you're out of the car too, before they try to start it!😆

    Some criticism:
    Those cold solder joints wont last forever, but will be fine for the time.
    The switch you used is the weak link. Spend some money on a good switch, not a gimmicky led plastic chinesium.
    This is moreso a peave not criticism. But i would remove the entire switch panel, cut the wires and run an inline and power wire to where you want the switch. This gives the appearance everything is normal. Thieves wont stick around to troubleshoot. But if they want your truck, they are going to know the ends and outs of these trucks. The two wires coming outta the fusebox is kinda a dead giveaway. Engine wont crank.. check fuses.. oh two wires where the ecm fuse goes?
    Rip rip install a spare fuse thats located in the box and im gone.. just my two cents man. You did the legwork for finding what fuse to use for me so thank you for that. In tx the gm k2xx trucks are the most stolen vehicle, and i was in thr process of a fuel relay interlock, but this seems easier and cost effective. Thanks for the video!

    If thieves break into your truck and pop the hood, they will instantly know to cut the bright red wires going thru the firewall thru a grommet that isn't designed for small gauge wire. They look like security or lighting of some kind. They have nothing to lose by cutting them, especially if the truck doesn't start when hot wired. They will instantly know. Hide the wires in a loom and/or rout them so they are hard to track from the fuse box. Give thieves NOTHING to go on. They are smart!

    Can you just use an add a circuit fuse tap and ground the side coming back?

    • @fuckuuto
      @fuckuuto 3 роки тому +1

      No. Because you have to put the new switch in series with the existing circuit you want to interrupt. That is the reason a fuse tap cannot be used because it has only 1 wire out that is connected to 1 terminal of one fuse and 1 terminal of the other fuse. If it had another wire connected to the other tap circuit terminal the swith would be in series and would work but it doesnt. Thats why you need to solder the prongs to a fuse holder.

    Good video, it's just too bad its so damn obvious if they pop the hood just need a spare fuse which might actually be kept in the spare slot in the engine compartment fuse box. I would hide the hell out of that wire in the engine compartment.

      If they discover what you've done in the fuse box, they don't actually need a fuse. Just any piece of wire for a temporary jumper and you've already supplied that for them.

    That Ford with the key fob can be stolen unless you put it in a RF blocking case. The pro thefts have scanners that can read your fob from 200-300 feet away,program a device they have & drive away. Easier than hot wiring. RF blockers pouches are cheap insurance.

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge. If I wanted to have "temporary kill switch" would it be easier to just find relevant fuse in the fuse box and replace with "dummy" fuse so the engine does not start when thieves try to start it? Obviously they are not idiots but what's the chance they start checking fuses and found dummy one then replace with real and drive off?

    • @JordanMoree
      @JordanMoree  3 роки тому +6

      You could definitely do that. It would be great if it was a vehicle that had a fuse in the cab. May be a pain in the butt trying to swap a fuse under the hood every time you want to drive.

    Hi Jordan. Let's say I installed the kill switch at the cigarette lighter. Now, I want to use a transmitter (remote control) with rolling code to activate first the cigarette lighter. Because, even if the thief finds the kill switch, it won't work. Only when I press the transmitter, the cigarette lighter function is released for use. So first you use the transmitter, than press the cigarette lighter and then you could start the engine.
    Well, that's only theory in my head because I'm not a specialist. But, how would have to be done these connections and wiring ? Could you try to explain that, please ?!? Or it's material for another UA-cam video...😂
