I love using wallpaper on inexpensive pieces of furniture to jazz it up. Yes, you have to use some kind of caulking or framing because no matter how accurate you are, you still get jagged edges with the wallpaper, and the caulking or framing hides that beautifully. Great job on this piece! It’s very pretty, and it’s on trend.
I just love how the wallpaper bumps up the look ...takes the attention off the mass produced look.... totally came out beautiful....it was worth the extra paint ...❣️ much love to you both🥰👍🙏
The color is GORGEOUS! The wallpaper gave a new, interesting and fresh vibe to this poor piece! I love the work you did! The knobs look absolutely OK! Thanks so much for sharing

@@loisbolton1800 Haha .... I know ... we first discovered it when we got a particle board dresser with water damage and we couldn't quite get that surface smooth. It was a great save the texture on the paper totally hid the uneven textured below it and it looked so good.
😮🌴Thanks, Vickie! Haha... we do tend to go with darker colors but trying to experiment with lighter ones. And the pattern on the paper just seemed to scream, 😍"Paint me green"!
good work!!! suggestion: for caulking, apply sliding the tip angled towards you and not away from you. It will leave a smoother bead that can easily get cleaned up running your finger on it. Nice transformation though!! I was skeptical of the wallpaper haha but it turned out great!
😅 Yes, I hear what you are saying. It took us a few months to dig into this project as we weren't quite sure what we were going to do with it. Thanks for watching, Judie!
Love the piece... another thought is to paint the raised part of the wallpaper white or painted it white first and then raised are the green. I had no idea Ikea has been around that long. Love the around town clips.
😘Thank you! That would look really cool to have two colors on the wallpaper! We have done that before and it looks great but it takes quite a bit of time to hand paint and we wanted to get this done quick since coffee tables don't sell for much in our area. Yeah, that's crazy about Ikea. The first store in the U.S. didn't open until 1985 though.
@@secondchanceohana I thought about the time factor... and of course you have to consider your area. It was just a thought I had. Yes, I didn't even hear if Ikea until about 20yrs ago.
Really like the wallpaper usage on this piece. Gives it the touch of interest it needed to make it a desirable addition to someones home. Got to admit, I was not fond of the green color, but realize it is a matter of personal choice. Another thing that I think would add more to it would have been an antiquing gel color to the raised design to make it stand out more, (just a subtle touch). Over all, it was a job very well done on a low quality item...you brought it up several notches.
Thanks so much, Doc! Love your suggestion about the antiquing gel. We have tried some hand painting of the raised design on other projects and it really does look great. Thanks for watching!🤗😍
My guess on that top spot, someone spilled acetone/nail polish remover and it ate into the finish. That could disappear with water but never fully go away. 🤔 Love the way the wallpaper added so much texture. Love the color too. Wonderful job as always ladies! 👏😍
Aloha OHANA! Thanks for watching! Have you ever received a free piece of furniture that was this UGLY? How did it turn out when you were finished with it?😰😵😍
Yes I've just done one for my son's new flat the chest of drawers was horrendous it cost me £10 in was 100 years old very heavy and solid wood but the veneer was badly chipped. I called it the BEAST but he became a BEAUTY.
This is very nice and the wallpaper idea is really nifty - I wonder whether using a different colour - or maybe just something like a silver fleck light coat - on the wallpaper sections would have looed good?
Thank Luigi! I bet that would have looked good. We did another piece with different paper that we painted black and then went over the raised areas with gold. It turned out really good but it took a lot of time. 😊
@@secondchanceohana yeah, I saw your other video later in the day and realised I wasn't being that original after all. I wonder if playing with a hard roller would allow you to obtain the same effect 'only on the raised part' with a lot less work? It would probably be a slight amount of paint which would be just right for many applications. Just thinking out loud, mind.
Hi Marta! Thank you! The wallpaper we use is a thick, durable and paintable wall paper that holds up well to painting with a brush. We have done it that way a few times.
That turned out nicely. Since that paint was so expensive relative to how much you used on a cheap piece of furniture I think that for next time, get a less expensive paint color matched at the hardware store for the inside of the piece. Save the nice stuff for the exterior. I love the color.
Great job. But, in my opinion, it's better to put something on the countertop. To avoid damage to the paint and contamination of the surface, how do you look at it?
👋Yes, we certainly agree! We use a paint that has a top coat and then add more layers of top coat (polyurethane) for protection but adding a cloth or felt under heavy objects will certainly help protect the surface even more! Thanks for watching and for your comment!
