ARKLAY Resident Evil, also known as "Dave," is a proof of concept short film that, if given the green light, would be set within the Resident Evil universe. The Director's Cut includes scenes that were cut from the final version. Arklay Story Synopsis, Set within the Arklay Forest on the outskirts of Raccoon City, prior to the outbreak, two detectives arrive on the scene after a call regarding the death of one of the detective's family members. While the two dispute over whether it's a murder or suicide, what they end up discovering is not what they expected. The Keeper, We have since announced that we'll be working with the director and producer of Arklay on a new short film titled, The Keeper. The Keeper will have direct connections to this universe.
Arklay/Dave looks amazing. And more interesting than the RE movies. There's a hint of actual suspense and possibly conspiracy. I like that it tied in with cases mentioned in the first RE game (or just remake really?) how peculiar cases were occurring on the city outskirts, eventually leading to STARS investigating the mansion. Not sure how this one will play out, but it leaves it open to whether it's corporate or police cover up via mole/assassin (Wesker?) but also the deceased shown could later become the one who is responsible for families being eaten in the city outskirts as part of the "bizarre murders" mentioned in the RE1 remake opening.
This is what we need for a RE movie/series... the atmosphere, the investigation, human stories, the search for clues about an underlying conspiracy and an unsettling portrayal of the infected, a grounded and realistic representation of the tragedy of Raccoon City!
For real. None of this stupid years later bullshit that keeps going back in pieces and it not making any sense or being piss poor writing. Even if this wasn't a 100 percent adaptation, I'd much rather watch this than that piece of garbage Netflix series we got
Arklay lives on with The Keeper! This proof of concept, short film is exactly what I wanted in a Resident Evil series. A series based around the events leading up to the Arklay or Raccoon City outbreak would be interesting to see. Little one-shot episodes focusing on the mysterious incidents that foreshadowed the horrors to come. I've thought up a few scenarios in my spare time. A deputy gets a call about an attempted home invasion up in the mountains and he winds up aiding the home-owners with surviving through the night. A hospital worker starts asking too many questions about the hospital she's working at after it falls under the management of Umbrella. A firefighter and his team attempt to respond to emergencies during the fall of Raccoon City, but as the night drags on quickly realize the only lives they can now save are their own. An Umbrella employee finalizes reports and assessments of the outbreak in the final hours before the bombs hit the city. There's a lot that can be done.
Always wondered why nobody ever tapped the early Raccoon City lead up to the outbreak. Even just a game would be fantastic. I know Raccoon city has been done to death, but it was the glory days of Resident evil and a spotlight should be focused in on this goldmine of a time line

This short film has more depth, atmosphere, and tension than anything in whole Resident Evil Welcome to Raccoon City film. How is it that in 12 minutes this can be done so effectively? Competent writing of script and characters. Something the film missed all together. By the way, that zombie makeup was stellar for a short film especially. That's how you do it. With that being said, all of the live action films have been mediocre with poorly written original stories while passing as popcorn flicks. I am also including Welcome to Raccoon City while being the closest adaptation is also incredibly incompetent with unrecognizable characters and an overambitious attempt at blending separate stories. The best thing about the film was the set pieces. This last one was just an insult as the director claimed it would be faithful.....Leon and Wesker were not adaptations, they were essentially new characters alongside other new poorly written characters disguised as adaptations. The short film Arklay demonstrated how to adapt the atmosphere, character centralism, and story into a simple form which can easily fit within the games universe. Yes, even if a character may not exist within the game, it is ok to introduce one that makes sense and doesn't bastardize the main characters as supporting one note characters in live action. It's also important to note that Resident Evil has for the most part been about small individual stories tied to the Umbrella corporation. The in game world was never overrun or has reached apocalypse levels which allows for more diverse stories.
@@cobijing .....we must've watched two different shows. The writing was horrible and characters unlikeable. The monsters were good though except the zeros.
It's such a shame that Netflix rejected this concept for a show and decided to partner with Constantin Films who are the same studio that worked with Paul W.S Anderson which gave us those 6 abysmal films.
bro this needs to be a 6 part episode series. Love the cinematography, the set feels so claustrophobic just like how resident evil feels. The music was genuinely haunting, my heart was racing on that zombie reveal. This is is already better than all the resident evil movies, even the new one while also having a non canon plot with connecting details to the canon universe which the original films tried to do and failed miserably
Duuuuude This is what I'm talking about!! FINALLY something worthy of the franchise and the Resident Evil name! I can't wait to see the full series, I'd pay money to see this! That zombie was incredible! Keep it up guys!! Also....anyone else suddenly have the urge to watch Law & Order...??
This hits the correct tone, subtle allusions, soundtrack shows promise and fidelity to the source material, almost Nordic noir meets survival horror , this deserves to be made
Will be great if you can make a entire web series with this characters. Sony and Netflix don't care about make a good RE adaptation, they only want money using the name.
I saw this a few years back and shared it like crazy! Was so upset to discover that Netflix turned this down. I wonder if we will ever get a faithful live adaptation of the Resident Evil franchise.
I'm writing a short series on George Trevor and his family's tragic end. THIS is what I love seeing. More and more short stories on RE. This is FANTASTIC, and I really hope this story achieves actuality!!!
You nailed every single aspect of the scene. I really hope this project moves forward and gets seen by all RE fans out there. Where do I put money on this??? I just love it!
If you can’t find the right cast for Leon and Jill, this is how you should make the live action movie. Naturally there are hundreds of stories from the civilians related to the incident that we the fans would want to know. Just like RE Outbreak, no main characters but I enjoyed playing it so much as it still gave RE vibe.
This was the perfect setup to show how things played out leading up to the Raccoon City incident. I remember seeing this a few years ago and I still can't believe that it didn't get off the ground.

How does a 12 minute clip from some fan capture the series more then anything done ins 8 movies and a TV show 🤦 I loved the tone of this felt very suspenseful
If Resident Evil adaptations were like this, the movie series would all be great worldwide successes, what a pity that this is not the current situation...
I saw this year's ago and always was disappointed that it didn't move forward. What a great way to show new characters, cameo known ones and tell different and interesting stories.
I did notice two things in this short, that S.T.A.R.S is listed as Special Tactics and Rescue Task Force which is missing the last “S” in the name which is “Services” and I never heard or never been mentioned that the S.T.A.R.S unit was listed as a “Task Force” but listed as a Special Forces Division under The Raccoon City Police Department but otherwise this short is a Resident Evil gem.
I have to say that this clip shows mature horror adaptations. The music is well adjusted to the scenes to create suspense. The acting was professional and credible and not over the top. I can’t give enough praise here. This just does not feel cheap or anything. It feels authentic. Last big praise goes to the zombie standing there blank faced. I had feared that they would use the old washed up aggressive lunge-at-you screaming zombie demeanour which kills the fucking horror every time you see it and is just so predictable and boring that you wanna shoot yourself. Instead they created a zombie that not only looks scary af but also acts scary in that it is unpredictable. The eyes look dead but filled with sinister gloom. As you look at that zombie suspense is being created with the addition of music and camera. Lastly the reaction of the actors is spot on. They are not just shocked but first of all estranged and surprised at what they’re seeing . And this is authentic. Nobody knows what a zombie is like the first time you see it. So instead of horror there righty is a sense of surprise combined with panic setting in. Bravo. Please keep this level.
This has been out for a long time. I’m surprised it never turned into anything bigger than this. The suspense and mystery was so on point with what RE originally was

So, I think that in this universe, the canon is: The Keeper (Fan film, coming soon) ARKLAY: Resident Evil (Conceptual piece that lead to The Keeper, also a fan film somewhat) Resident Evil Zero (2002 game, definitely set after ARKLAY as the detective protagonist is seemingly dead by the end of the short) Resident Evil (2002 game as the details match up more with Zero and the sequels than RE 1996)
I want a resident evil series like this that has its own story before the raccoon city incident while the games are still canon. The series would sort of fill the gaps how the outbreak slowly affects the city
My goodness. I can't express enough how good this is. Imagine building up the first Resident Evil story like this. You just cant get enough. They can also prioritise on the backstory of the STARS team. How they work as a team and earn all those awards displayed in their office in RE2 Remake. I want them to make Jill and Chris work like Mulder and Scully from the X-Files. Always together, curious and astute.
A lot of potential here! My only nitpicks are that the letter the detective found was dated 2016 which, if they were keeping perfectly to the timeline of RE would be incorrect. The only other thing is that the female detective mentioned "Dave" had a glass of Scotch next to him but when they went to the kitchen there was a bottle of Bourbon on the counter (Evan Williams if I'm not mistaken). Totally possible there was more than one open bottle in the house of course and this is just stuff that stuck out to my weird self, not important really. Anyway, I always thought a show or game based just prior to the outbreak would be so amazing. I am so disappointed in the stuff that's out there with the RE name on it.
"Or how a quick succession of small accidents lead up to one of the biggest disasters in gaming history". This short have such good potential, I really hope someday we can be able to see something from this quality, as a finished product on the future. Also, good to hear your guys are working in a short ourselves. All I can say is good luck and GO GO GO ROE SQUAD! hahahahahhahaahhaha
This is way better performed and written than the current films , and RE Netflix series. Way more suspense and beautifully done. I look soooo very forward to this coming out and doing the RE franchise right and honor the games and story as it was meant to be 👍 done .
As someone who's only moderately familiar with the RE series, this is really well done in its own regard. I felt the pain of Dave's brother on a deep level, and I hope this/the people who made it go places.
This is how you do Resident Evil as a movie/show! I love how in just a little under 12 minutes I was already invested in the main characters and I was left wanting to learn more about them. This snippet made the horror feel personal and Resident Evil needs that human element instead of brainless action all the time.

The show would have been amazing, and the description of it sounds like a cool concept. Resident Evil needs a nice live action TV show of which is canon.
Agree. But you know what I've realised? Every RE live action movie (well, first 3 of Andersons movies are decent), set in ITS OWN universe becomes a failure.
As soon as the movie becomes a part of and is set in the MAIN Resident Evil universe (game universe I mean), it is good: 3 animated movies, Infinite Darkness (hope there would be season 2), this short film. Not sure why there is 2016 in the paper for some reason, but whatever.
@@datboididur I've never seen them, I watched many reviews, and I think first 3 movies are not that bad. Sure, they of course have flaws, but they have an interesting concept and events. Every live action movie after, including Welcome to RC is just... Well... Awfull, MOST softly speaking.
This is magnificent! I’ve seen this short several times now and I’ve enjoyed every single one of them. The photography and art direction it’s beautifully accomplished. Hope one day they give to this story the attention it deserves.

The in game world was never overrun or has reached apocalypse levels which allows for more diverse stories.
from the future, there is a full netflix show were the 12 minutes are every episode, and fans dont like it.
@@cobijing .....we must've watched two different shows. The writing was horrible and characters unlikeable. The monsters were good though except the zeros.
@@cobijing The Netflix show was absolutely awful.
Can we put a petition for a go fund me for this so they can have production funds for more
I really wanted this to come out back when it first got revealed. Hopefully they will be able to make it
It's such a shame that Netflix rejected this concept for a show and decided to partner with Constantin Films who are the same studio that worked with Paul W.S Anderson which gave us those 6 abysmal films.
5 abysmal films. RE2A only good one.
Yea not to mention that the Netflix show we're getting is a successor for the Alice films, one of the producers said so in early development.
@@MikeWilsonBarrett I'm pretty sure first 3 films are not bad. I would describe them as a "good, pretty good fanfic". The last 3 are just pure crap.
I enjoyed the first three, but I think it went very downhill after that
@@clorby22 yeah, that's ABSOLUTELY true. The last 3 movies of Anderson's universe are so incoherent and contradict themselves it's painful to watch.
I remember seeing this ages ago, miles better than just trying to adapt the games into movies.
bro this needs to be a 6 part episode series.
This proof of concept was suppose to have premiered back in 2015 on Netflix...but got shelved.
This hits the correct tone, subtle allusions, soundtrack shows promise and fidelity to the source material, almost Nordic noir meets survival horror , this deserves to be made
Look more accurate than any of the actual films. Much praise for this short!!!
Will be great if you can make a entire web series with this characters. Sony and Netflix don't care about make a good RE adaptation, they only want money using the name.
This just proves that if you care about the source material, and the right actors you can make good movies and shows with the resident evil franchise
Amazing! Would love to see more stuff like this made for the RE universe
I love this. Trying to be authentic while not messing with the original story.
This is absolutely amazing. We needs this to be funded and im down to help support with crowd funding.
That was soooo good. Felt like the entire story could start & finish in that house. Super engaging
Yehaaaaaa !! finally something decent... infinite thanks to the creators and actors... please rescue the franchise from the decadence to which the movies have taken it... with this short short renew my hopes and I know that many hopes in see something decent on the screen that represents what resident evil really is.... a thousand and a thousand thanks 👏👏👏👏👏
It's been a while since this pilot was released a couple years maybe so don't get your hopes up it's probably it's been already been cancelled before.
This looks excellent. One of the creepiest things I’ve seen in a long time and feels like a resident evil show. Why can’t this become a thing?
Somewhere in an alternate universe we’re all enjoying this on Netflix picking it up instead.
How does a 12 minute clip from some fan capture the series more then anything done ins 8 movies and a TV show 🤦 I loved the tone of this felt very suspenseful
That was brilliant. Love the MO Disk popped in. I so hope this becomes an HBO series.
This looks really good and puts Welcome to Raccoon City to shame. I hope its expanded on.
If Resident Evil adaptations were like this, the movie series would all be great worldwide successes, what a pity that this is not the current situation...
I saw this year's ago and always was disappointed that it didn't move forward. What a great way to show new characters, cameo known ones and tell different and interesting stories.
The MO disk was a nice touch. Outstanding work.
This is absolutely beautiful. This is how the previous resident evil movies should have been.
I remember this. I so wish they would have finished this and came up with more
I'm just imagining that I've started Netflix or Amazon Prime and I can't stop...
This short video was already better than the entire new RE film...
The acting in this is truly well done. Give these guys props!
The suspense and mystery was so on point with what RE originally was
Yeah, I remember I saw this years ago. I believed I was having a deja vu, lol.
@@MGOFor3ver 😂 Big Boss is that you?! Yeah i felt the same. The short definitely holds up with the times. The mystery and suspense made me want a continuation of the series. It was getting so good
@@thefitgamerdad Even better than the reboot Sony made this year. What a disaster 😕
@@MGOFor3ver totally agree. I was shaking my head throughout the movie. Such wasted potential. This was their chance. I don’t think I’ll be paying to watch any other movies from Constatin films
@@thefitgamerdad better go and watch Uncharted, at least it seems it doesn't disappoint.
What a pleasure to see them do really good things like these!!! Far and away, these 12 minutes are way better than Welcome to Raccoon City. I hope it becomes a series 👌👍👏💪
Sadly this was made years ago... Is a canceled concept
So, I think that in this universe, the canon is:
The Keeper (Fan film, coming soon)
ARKLAY: Resident Evil (Conceptual piece that lead to The Keeper, also a fan film somewhat)
Resident Evil Zero (2002 game, definitely set after ARKLAY as the detective protagonist is seemingly dead by the end of the short)
Resident Evil (2002 game as the details match up more with Zero and the sequels than RE 1996)
Looks incredible! Captures the exact tone that an RE LA should have. Hope this comes to light
Yup, easily the best thing we've gotten. Just hand it to someone who can fckin direct already.
Now that is a good concept with out shitting on already established lore.
Can we sign a petition to get this made as a series! Or even donate to a small director to make it happen!
Seriously how does this stuff not get in production?!?! Such a tease! What a film this would be
A lot of potential here!
We NEED this!!!
This is better than anything hollywood has put out surrounding RE.
The potential of Arklay would have made the storytelling quality of the Resi series really up there. Origin stories have always worked this way.
That zombie looks way more scary than the entire zombie from the holywood movie, good job.
I demand that this series be completed. We deserve this after so many flaws on the big screens !!!
This is how you do Resident Evil as a movie/show! I love how in just a little under 12 minutes I was already invested in the main characters and I was left wanting to learn more about them. This snippet made the horror feel personal and Resident Evil needs that human element instead of brainless action all the time.
Now i want to see a "Resident Evil Outbreak" series.
I shown this to my parents, and my mom and dad are like Wow!this looks so good. Where and how can we start the series? And im like sorry but there isn't one. It was a concept. They are like what!! and when they found out it was based off Resident evil, they couldn't believe it
The show would have been amazing, and the description of it sounds like a cool concept.
@@seregagerassimov4864 NGL I like the Paul Anderson films.
@@datboididur I've never seen them, I watched many reviews, and I think first 3 movies are not that bad. Sure, they of course have flaws, but they have an interesting concept and events. Every live action movie after, including Welcome to RC is just... Well... Awfull, MOST softly speaking.
Love this more every time I see it, amazing work to Writer / Director Shawn Lebert
That was actually super dope short film!
This is magnificent! I’ve seen this short several times now and I’ve enjoyed every single one of them. The photography and art direction it’s beautifully accomplished. Hope one day they give to this story the attention it deserves.
I suggest you people to make this short viral.
People need to know that amateurs have better understanding of what RE is all about than those braindead executives in Hollyweird.
This was really good, looking forward to watching The Keeper.
This is, how a RESIDENT EVIL MOVIE have to look like.🤩👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
It’s sad when this was more well made than the movie we just got. 😂 great concept short 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
