  • This is it - the final installment in my Just To See How Far It Is adventure - and fitting that we should end in a place where your imagination really can run wild - Hogsback!
Whether it did inspire Tolkien to create fantasy worlds where fairies and hobbits roam or not, the town is magical and the surroundings enchanting.
I have visited Hogsback a few times but never like this...what a fabulous end to a life changing road trip!
Thank you for joining us on our adventures...hope to be on the road soon again!
    Marius, Milla, Jamie and Oscar

Maybe a late comment but I’m living in the cold snowy Denmark (working) for 8 years now and longing for home. I have just binge watched this series for the second time around. Having watched many overlanding YT series, this is up there with the best. Before receiving the link for your Ep 10 four days ago, I was engrossed in Voetspore TV. I then went back to your Ep 1 and watched them all. Besides the great photography & scenery, the real-feel commentary and great interviews were next level with such an organic feel of traveling the back-roads of our beautiful country. Thank you Marius & team. 😉

Sean, what an incredible compliment to receive!!! I know we have communicated via Twitter but needed to thank you again for this feedback...it was one of the best things I have done and if that spirit came across then I achieved what I set out to do - to inspire South Africans to get on the road, to tell the positive stories instead of always the negative and to showcase the incredible people and places that are South Africa! Look forward to catching up with you when you get back into the country!
      Stay Safe,
      Marius

We are seasoned overlanders and therefor very critical about these kind of shows.
Everything about this "Just to see how far I can go" series was just pure enjoyment! This is going to change the way we do our's in future.

Wow what a lovely message to receive!! Thank you for taking the time to comment - you’ve made my day!
It was such an incredible experience and I guess being a rookie to overlanding but experienced in television and storytelling, it influence how this adventure unfolded.
The goal always was to promote our country, the amazing people and tell their stories - inspired by the chaos that COVID created. I am always saddened how as South Africans, we know so little about our own country - we always so keen to hop on a plane and see the rest of the world first - so I know there was an opportunity to prompt local discovery.
The idea was to continue this adventure but it’s been rather frustrating finding the funding to get on the road again

Just wanted to say I absolutely love this series. I’m from ireland and my wife (who I married last year during lockdown) is from South Africa, from the North West specifically. I met her here and we’ve been together for five years, living in Ireland. I’ve been to SA twice and am going for a 3rd time this month. It’s my favourite place in the world and i just watched all your videos to get excited about going. I’ve been to all but 2 provinces (northern cape and Limpopo). This time we’re going to go the NC to Hondeklipbaai and then down west coast to Cape Town, then back up through Sutherland back to NW. It’s exactly as you say - all the politics and all the nonsense is not what SA is really about, it’s the kind hearted amazing people you might wherever you go, and videos like this help remind us of that as we live in ireland and only get to go to SA once every year or two. Thank you for spreading the good word.

    • @MariusRobertsProductions
      @MariusRobertsProductions  2 роки тому +1

Wow Evan thank you so much for such a cool message and for the positive feedback!
I guess one of the positives with lockdown has been that, with borders closed, its opened South Africans eyes to discovering their own country and falling in love with it again. Its always been fascinating for me that whenever I meet tourists, they know more about SA than many of us do!
I have been blessed to travel abroad a lot and visit some amazing places BUT you will be hard pressed to find a better place to live day in and day out! Crazy statement I know given all of the crap going down, the crime and a Government committed to running it into the ground - can you only imagine if they stopped their crap?!?
What is also cool for me is that the way you speak about the people in SA is exactly how I felt when visiting Ireland - salt of the earth, genuine folk!
I hope you have a fantastic time 'back home' - if you ever down the Eastern Cape way, let me know - be good to grab a beer / Guinness.

    • @lynottlives
      @lynottlives 2 роки тому

@@MariusRobertsProductions thanks so much for the thoughtful reply Marius! I totally agree about lockdown. We also drove all around Ireland which was a great opportunity to see places in the country I’d never been.
Totally agree about government vs people. If all of the kind hearted good people you meet every day in SA we’re running the country and not the awful people in charge, it would be a totally different situation. I don’t think we’re going to get to the eastern cape this time sadly but for sure we will in future and I will take you up on that!

I accidentally came across your channel searching for local content on overlanding. Something, I deeply love. I was touched by the honestly and sincerity of everyone in this series and the respect you have shown towards each person. Can' wait for your next adventure.

So what I did was pull an imaginary line from PE up north to the border and then find a circular route to the west, so will do the same with the east.
That will include Transkei of course, Midlands, Battlefields, Drakensberg as far up as Mozambique - dive at Sodwana for sure - and back through the middle. Obviously Lesotho is on my hit list too - cant wait to go there!
I will probably do a short video like i did last time asking for suggestions but this time will put that on UA-cam too and not just social media - got so many amazing suggestions first time around. And what would be cool is to catch up with people along the way who have enjoyed the show...
And why didn't you stop to say hello? That would have been the 8 series when it first launched...good times and memories!

@@MariusRobertsProductions Sounds brilliant! KZN is beautiful, Transkei too. Sadly never made it up to Mozambique. Am looking forward to it.
And didn't stop in pass because that is my commute to work, beautiful road to travel but so demoralizing when I'm on the way to the office and drive through Franschhoek where everyone's a tourist having a good time, lol.
Keep up the good work! And have fun.

I have now watched this full series a number of times. Thank you so much Marius for the way you presented the whole series. It is fresh, interesting and the photography excellent. I am {because of you) planning to do a Karoo trip starting on Monday the 28th of February 2022. I will however travel from Vanderbijlpark down to Bethulie where the trip and bucket list will really start. We plan to literally zig-zag through the Karoo and Klein Karoo down to Matjiesfontein and then north-west to the Tankwa Karoo National Park and then to Calvinia. From here we will zig-zag back in an easterly direction. (Yes Orania is also on the list!).
When travelling from Queenstown in the east we will concentrate on the southern Karoo places/towns and when we turn around at Tankwa Karoo National Park we will concentrate on the northern places/towns. Unlike your 50/50 split between tar and dirt roads we will probably do only about 20-25% dirt road travelling. (With an Isuzu 2.5 D/C Auto High Rider of course!). This will still be considerable amount of dirt road travelling as the total trip will be about 4500 km. Apart from the very first and very last day, we will try and limit our daily travels to no more than ±200-250km. (300km max!). The focus will be on all the smaller towns and villages. We will try to visit three of the national parks with a stay of one to three days per park. (The Mountain Zebra National Park at Queenstown, the Karoo Nat Park at Beaufort West, and the Tankwa Karoo Nat Park).Total time of the trip is unknown and basically open-ended. (Probably about 20-25 days?). Our feeling is that it will take as long as it takes!
Thanks again for a fantastic series.

Hey Dirk thank you so much! Wow, what a cool message to receive...really appreciate it. Hearing how my adventures have motivated you to get on the road too is the best news because that was exactly the motivation behind it.
It sounds like you have an amazing adventure lineup AND don't rush it, open ended if possible is the best way too go. We were chasing too hard in the start trying to move everyday - its no fun doing it like that!!!
      Safe travels....am super jealous

Really great series and truly inspiring to see more of what our beautiful country has to offer. Some familiar gems like the west coast strip and NC. Thanks for sharing the journey, I loved the rawness and less "Youtuby" aspect of your series. You've really captured the essence and emotion of your travel on camera. Well done and looking forward to the next...Where will you share the basecamp file for download?

Hey Lionel I cant believe I missed this comment!!! So bad...
Thank you for the wonderful feedback - my first time trying something like this and I definitely wanted to keep it more intimate, not overproduce the experience. Maybe it helps coming from a TV background instead of the modern day UA-cam'ers because I appreciate the value of telling a story??
Now perhaps you can help me with the Basecamp file - I have it downloaded as a GPX file but never been sure how to actually share it!! So have put together an image with all the contact details and co-ordinates to share on social media as i have had a lot of requests for this.
