you had to be a metal head in high school in the 80's when this came out to understand how badass this song was. Every metal head had this blasting from their car stereo at that time~!
i just seen these guys live in November in Southern Ontario and all i can say is wow what a great bunch of entertainers with great energy and an awesome tight metal sound for three old timers....
Say what you will, but the first three Anvil albums are metal classics. Sure they didn't become huge, but that doesn't change the fact that the first 3 albums are very influential to metal. Very important albums that deserve respect.
I also like Strength of Steel but I don't know what happened with their fifth one (Pound for Pound). Severe, precipitous drop in quality and right on the heels of the best releases by the big four no less...
Haven't heard of this band till 1997 and loved it. No posers needed. This band is original. All about Metal music. No wonder Slash and other artist are influenced by this band. Anvil Rocks
Anvil, Y&T, & Saxon. Three great heavy metal bands, two from North America, Canada & the U.S. respectively, and one from the UK. Three completely underrated, underlooked/overlooked bands of the era/all time
This band was praised by god himself (Lemmy). They were a victim of poor management and the witch hunt of the 80's against metal. Being Canadian didn't help either.
Same for Rush. They got no deal/support here in Canada and it's a shame that it happened. It's like Canadians have zero faith in their rock musicians/ashamed of them and would only support them if they got famous in America. I don't think that's the problem today.
I'm American and respect all things 🇨🇦. Anvil were originals not trying to be sexy like wearing makeup and hairspray like other bands in 🇺🇸. Just making music is what matters
A fellow metalhead of mine were fairly obsessed with Anvil back in the day in high school. And never understood why they were never as famous as others like Maiden or Priest.
this album changed my life when it came out, and i was only 6 years old at the time. unless it came out before my 6th birthday. but my uncle had this album. of course i taped it. then played the snot out of it until i got my own copy of it.
Clive Burr's last studio recording with Iron Maiden was The Number of the Beast. The album would go on to sell 14 million copies. It peaked at #1 on the UK Charts. Although success in the US was more gradual. At the time of Clive's departure they were already one of the biggest bands in heavy metal. They were a significant step up from Anvil.
the problem about this is most people into Anvil are those who think it's cool to dislike the mainstream; thus the people who just download everythign so their iPod looks cool. Do bands like these justice if you really like them and BUY THEIR STUFF
There’s a difference between mainstream and crap. (Duh)… You obviously don’t know much about music. And I see nobody at all even mentioning Pantera (who never sang Bob Seger songs or sued kids like Metallica and Jay Z did over Napster songs).
One of the most criminially underrated bands ever. They deseved to be in Monsters of Rock, Loola, Wacken and more. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Hope I am.
lips lo mejor que le pudo pasar al metal anvil no sera considerada una verdadera banda famosa del metal pero es una de las mejores del mundo en mi opinion ya por su sonido y calidad de letras no comerciales
I heard this play on my Sirius app not too long ago. Not knowing Anvil, I immediately thought this was a Spinal Tap song that I had somehow forgotten... My bad!
Anvil are a bit like a real life version of Tap.. check out the documentary on them, it's The Story of Anvil.. or some of their early albums (Metal on Metal is a solid one, Forged in Fire rocks as well)
FunerealObsession jajajaja the riff of the intro seems to me like death metal, the vocals in some parts too, and the chorus its like led zeppelin jajajajaa but dont get angry I'm kidding (im spanish, sorry for my english)
SoilentGr33n "Really old death metal" like Necrovore, Exmortis, Bloodspill, and Master is more or less the antithesis of catchy hard rock tinged sing song classic heavy metal.
This was in heavy rotation in the 80's on head bangers ball and on all the metal radio stations. You just do not get cause it was not your time. This song was a arena anthem that were played before concerts that people sang along to, it just had that it factor at the time and summed up the entire metal scene.
As much as its true, there completely uncompareable. but Anvil does deserve to be much higher up the ladder then they are, but its good they got something now :) better late then never!
How exactly were they ripped off? The first three albums are good, after that they just recycled themselves and eventually got lost in mediocrity. And in metal mediocrity doesn't sell much. Least in those days anyways.
you had to be a metal head in high school in the 80's when this came out to understand how badass this song was. Every metal head had this blasting from their car stereo at that time~!
most def.. in my 68 camaro
And I was one of them 🤘🏼
Here here rocking it in my 75 Camera
Boombox at the kegger.
Top top top.

I saw Anvil playing in Dublin 1983. Black Sabbath, Motorhead and Twisted Sister also played. Amazing memories!
Just discovered anvil, that riff is so catchy.... awesome

Lips is one of the friendliest and most normal guys in the whole Metal scene, I love Anvil !
see "lips" has dedication, working hard at it for 30 odd years, still not famous, but they are still going.
They're not female.
I never said that they were female
You said lips.
That is his nickname
Oh. Was thinking about other kind of lips.
Anvil, Y&T, & Saxon. Three great heavy metal bands, two from North America, Canada & the U.S. respectively, and one from the UK.
Three completely underrated, underlooked/overlooked bands of the era/all time
I have to admit that is one bad ass riff
Truly the star of the song
april wine wasp and anvil are probably the most underated Metal bands
2 out of those three bands made it big though
I agree about WASP! UNDERRATED
This band was praised by god himself (Lemmy). They were a victim of poor management and the witch hunt of the 80's against metal. Being Canadian didn't help either.
Jeff Brusse Agreed to all 3 and I'm Canadian :(
Just seen these guys lastnight and they still put on a great show
Same for Rush. They got no deal/support here in Canada and it's a shame that it happened. It's like Canadians have zero faith in their rock musicians/ashamed of them and would only support them if they got famous in America. I don't think that's the problem today.
I don't know how those bands didn't learn from Neil Young.
I'm American and respect all things 🇨🇦. Anvil were originals not trying to be sexy like wearing makeup and hairspray like other bands in 🇺🇸. Just making music is what matters
it started in Canada
MELHOR FASE DO HEAVY METAL...*1980 até 2000* LONGA VIDA AO METAL, FOREVER.
HELL YEAH
The first show I ever saw!!!
Lips is the true metal maniac! And this song is SO good. Keep on rockin'!!!
From the opening riff I start headbanging!
The only Heavy Metal Anthem that will last for all time.
A fellow metalhead of mine were fairly obsessed with Anvil back in the day in high school. And never understood why they were never as famous as others like Maiden or Priest.
At the time I'll bet everyone in the studio thought, man this is guaranteed to be huge.
A MASTER PIECE!!
Sure they're not iron maiden. But iron maiden is not anvil!!!! This is good
(Not).
I'm Canadian & also a metalhead & Anvil fuck'n rocks and also deserves alot of respect ( same with a lot of other underated rock bands)
Anvil played conan O'Brien. It was amazing. Its not on UA-cam anymore. unless you have it.....??
Memories of days gone by! Still...Metal all day? 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
this album changed my life when it came out, and i was only 6 years old at the time. unless it came out before my 6th birthday. but my uncle had this album. of course i taped it. then played the snot out of it until i got my own copy of it.

Number of the Beast is an incredible album, but there's no way it sold 14 million copies.
Anything is a significant step up from Anvil. Comparing them to Iron Maiden is like comparing 2Pac to Vanilla Ice or Sir Mix-a-Lot !
@@ericmartinez4053Including digital sales, it’s likely closer to 20 million.
Saw anvil with motorhead. Me n my bro daz. Was my first ever concert i saw
Those drum fills and reverberating metallic tone perfectly suits the band name So Tasty!!!
First heard this song on Midnight Metal Hour on Q107. Next time they played it, I caught a great copy of it! lol
Fabulous vocals.

It would be super awesome if this vid contained the entire song.
Keep on rockin' 🤘
Super song
Metal original, fascinante .

The best ever anvillllllllllllllll let's gettttttrrr iiiiiit
@murezor but metal on metal was written, recorded, released even before the Smith's song was written :)
One of the most criminially underrated bands ever. They deseved to be in Monsters of Rock, Loola, Wacken and more. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Hope I am.
The best band of the world
Most under rated Metal band ever. Anvil kicks ass kids! Lips is awesome!

Anybody else imagining Nelson Muntz singing this, with the other delinquents playing as the band..??

@@TheLarryburns84 lol

It sounds very much like Metallica, the chorus could belong to Anthrax. These guys released music before BIg 4.
Heavy/Death with a rock n' roll chorus
MrMatyhazz
Death? Whaaaat?
FunerealObsession jajajaja the riff of the intro seems to me like death metal, the vocals in some parts too, and the chorus its like led zeppelin jajajajaa but dont get angry I'm kidding (im spanish, sorry for my english)
FunerealObsession Actually, really old death metal doesn't sound too far from this, especially the grumbling semi screamy vocal delivery.
I know.
SoilentGr33n
"Really old death metal" like Necrovore, Exmortis, Bloodspill, and Master is more or less the antithesis of catchy hard rock tinged sing song classic heavy metal.
@@MrMatyhazz Esto no tiene nada de Death Metal jaja
Banda foda!!!!!
MERUL ON MERUL.
Tall ass pants, fringe-y leather jacket with no shirt and cocaine.
KANUK KANUK KANUK.
However- I can still listen to this metal song...somehow.
Spinal Tap's opening act.
Amo som bom assim ...;)

de huevos me recuerda los videos de black sabbath

In Netflix you can watch a documentary about this great band.
true metal loved it when i was gae 13,15 somewhere in 81
Stray Dog "Calamity Jane"😉😈
R.I.P Dave Allison.
Leider nie live gesehen
Looks like Joel from Airbourne Oo
Joel looks like him ffs.
these guys where defiantly influenced by the big four and Motorhead. Still best song I have ever heard them record off one of their best albums.
Noah McIver they influenced the big 4 actually
Anvil was BEFORE the Big 4! Lemmy (God) praised them as well
They got screwed, plain and simple....other bands ripped them off and left them in the dust....they were around before the big 4
How exactly were they ripped off? The first three albums are good, after that they just recycled themselves and eventually got lost in mediocrity. And in metal mediocrity doesn't sell much. Least in those days anyways.
anvil anvil anvil =)
Rysningar !! :-)
Simpsons S22 E5 had this song.
Metal Von Metal
with Hansel und Gretel
and Rigatoni Joni
and her old cousin Ethel ...
that part at 0:56 sounds like the smiths' barbarism begins at home. song still rips though.
@posa30 i'm playing with them in a week
