  • A North Georgia woman serving our country was in the spotlight in our nation's capital Thursday night. Sgt. Christiana Ball from Rising Fawn, Georgia received a standing ovation following her performance for the President, on the south lawn at the White House.
Sgt. Ball is an Army drill sergeant stationed in Fort Leanord Wood, Missouri. This event was part of "In Performance at the White House."

Uncle on a Destroyer in the Pacific WWII. Uncle flew about everything the Air Force had, retired few years back. Proud of our tradition of service to our Country and the service to it’s people. When I came home from Nam on July 6, 1970...I had lost seven brothers of honor, I came home knowing five...I have been involved in four passing...none know the grief of seeing a former combat brother pass...they take a portion of your heart and soul with them...yet...they leave you enough heart and soul in order to welcome another future soldier home. I met a Nam vet on a flight in Honolulu last week, I took a knee and welcomed him home...he lowered his head and began to cry....fuck Covid, I held him and cried with him..we whipped our tears from each others eyes...his tears ran down my face...they were salty...the same salty taste of brothers we lost in Nam...what a sweet ....salty, horrific, painful, shameful and humbling taste....yet it calmed my mind, my heart, my shame and my faith. Only two of us are still living...I pray God we meet before we move on to Glory.

I still feel shame for the way our country treated you Vietnam veterans when you returned home. I was a teen then and my brother served in Vietnam. I was horrified then and remain so at the disgusting way the returning (and those that did not return) were thought of and treated. A time of disgrace for our country for sure. Fortunately, we learned from that and learned to express our appreciation for those that serve in the military. Not saying we have it "right" yet, but hopefully as we learn we improve. Thank you for your service. I, for one, will always thank you. I, also go out of my way to thank those serving that I see. It is the least I can do.

I enlisted, ready to do the same, fortunately it was the Cold War and me and many of my friends were unscathed. My thanks and deepest appreciation to those that served in the 90’s, when the unthinkable became reality. What those of us practiced earlier became a reality.

This years marks 50 years since I stepped foot in South Vietnam. At 70, I still cry for those in my platoon of Marines who were absent at morning muster as we stood, weary from the all night vigil to find a dark location in the jungle to get low enough to bring them home to us, and on to their loved ones who knew nothing of the fury of gunfire that took the lives of men we had breakfast with early in the day. The joys of a USO show the night before and the photos that captured their last moments of happiness that became lost in so many moves in a lifetime.
Faces of 19 & 20 year olds who are forever young men that are etched in my mind who should resemble the image I see in my mirror. They never age in the minds of loved ones, girlfriends, fiancees and buddies and those of their unit who pledged their lives to now feel the void in their hearts. We remember them as we see our flag pass by through moist eyes and it causes little children to ask their Mom or Dad why a grown man cries. It is simple. Love of country despite of her flaws and love of comrades who shared the same and cared for the generations of Americans to come who they desired to keep safe from all of the worlds aggressive evils!

U.S. Army sergeant Christiana ! A beautiful woman and a beautiful voice. And a brave woman too, otherwise she wouldn't be in that uniform. 'Some gave all and all gave some'!. I'll never forget these beautiful words in the song. Loves from India, far away. A soldier is a soldier is always a soldier. Salute to Sgt. Christiana.

With all of today's political turmoil,, one thing always give me faith...and that's the men and women who protect us from the evil that's so prominent in the national conversation. Each and every one of them is special as they take on the burdern to defend our Demoncracy and their resolve to win against all enemies -- foreign or domestic. Failure is not in their vocabulary. We can never fully reward them,, but we can respect them and support them and remember them in our prayers.

Was very proud to serve in the army, after three years I transferred to the Coast Guard to finish my 20. So glad would not have wanted to miss serving my country, the best in the whole wide world. Great song, great words, I wish more folks today felt that way. 😥
