Had met a man on a flight from delhi to Bombay just after the cabinet was sworn in... And he said the most dangerous step was to make Jaitley the finance minister... He very clearly told me then... That Jaitley being a lawyer is trained to go by facts.... And it will be his natural instinct to balance the books... He said, One needs a maverick in finance who will take a risk and try something different to kick start the economy... Else he said he predicts a ten year down... This 25% Black money tax + 50% in a 2% FD for 5 years is a good idea in principle. The percentages can be played around with. For example, Capital Gains from Real Estate transactions can be minimised by putting up to Rs. 50L in a 6% Infrastructure Bond for 3 years. Something similar could be used to finance the Infrastructure Building program. And his last statement is right. Incentivise or back off, and the people will thrive.

They are just building up statements to support that the exercise was successful. It could have been successful for some reasons but they were just not the original objectives. I like SS for lot of things, but I do not share his views on De-mon, first he is asking govt to be linient on corrupt money by saying charge only 25%, which is even less than the highest tax bracket, so there is no penalty for illgotten wealth, so govt was right in charging 50%., There should be fear of law, he is saying threat does not work, but that is not the case, in the west, the problem is poor implementation and discredited lethargic bureaucracy, policing and justice system. Interesting to observe that two great Economists discussing Micro and Macro Economics and lashing out on people like Raghu Ram Rajan, Arun Jeitly, P Chidambaram; and establishing that they are much below them, in terms of understanding economics in the Country. The real trouble with Swamy is that he thinks that he is the only Economist in the whole World and others are creatures creeping in the bottom. From the conversation of these great Economists people, however, couldn't understand the Macro economics and the Structural reforms offered to the country to combat the present issues. I like SS for lot of things, but I do not share his views on De-mon, first he is asking govt to be linient on corrupt money by saying charge only 25%, which is even less than the highest tax bracket, so there is no penalty for illgotten wealth, so govt was right in charging 50%., There should be fear of law, he is saying threat does not work, but that is not the case, in the west, the problem is poor implementation and discredited lethargic bureaucracy, policing and justice system. This govt has tried to improve on all this. rewarding the crooks is not the way to go. but strengthening the system is the way to go. He says people will find way to cheat, no not if the system can catch them, due to existing loopholes and corrupt system it was possible, but as the noose is getting tightened all over the place, this will become less and less of possibility. GST, RERA, Benami, DBT, Adhaar linkage, online and timely reporting will make it really difficult for hiding money. Yes there is some way to go, but another term of Modi, I believe 95% of the things will come to order. Babus and lower order govt employees may be still holding for Modi govt to leave and congress to comeback to start their usual way of corruption, another term and most will come on line. those who will not change the way will be caught.
Chidambaram speaks good english but good english is not good economics. Also good oratory is also not good scholarship. He sold national interest by contracting the printing to same company to which our enemy has contracted. He promoted the Black cash, he promoted inflated wealth. he is a national disaster which resulted in decay of decade and dangerous situation to the country.
