now we know that the "flat birdhouses" are not h.o.r siro-drones, i knew these things were cut down fedelcodes due to a metal shortage, but apart from that, this confirms it.
Great video with some fantastic sirens ! From the bullet holes on the Model 7, to the Fedelcode with its label still on, nice ! My best guess for the removed SD-10 is that, since only the siren itself was removed and not the pole, it was probably preserved or restored or put up on display or something like that. I just came back from vacation and I didn't went to Dunkirk, France, to see the siren test last Wednesday as I planned because I just didn't feel like waking up early, taking the tram for over 2 hours one way and 2 hours back, and my brother was joining us that day so I stayed where I was staying ^^
Can't wait to get a chance to get to Belgium and Dunkirk. Both for the sirens and the history. And yeah, that Model 7 cut down is in great condition, the words on it are still so clear. So, a good trip indeed: A missing 50s siren and a great looking 40s siren.
Glad you keep capturing the history of the LA system and these old sirens! Very fun watching this series and seeing you learn about sirens, like I did/am (Btw cutdown model 7's are just model 3's and were not cut at all I believe)
As far as I know there are no working sirens in Los Angeles county. The only exception is the ones used for the Great LA Air Raid Event, those owned by siren enthusiasts, and the one on Catalina Island. I think there are plans to put up sirens along the beaches as tsunami warnings, but I'm not too familiar with those.
It was sometime around 1985 when the LA county sheriff's dept disconnected all the cold war era sirens in LA due to I believe faulty controls causing panic. I remember reading some kind of article stating that the sirens during the later years of service were activating randomly and causing more problems. Apparently, LA never bothered to replaced their warning sirens with newer ones or possibly didn't have the funds to upgrade. Although, there are new sirens installed in Beverly Hills that are to be used for wildfires, possible earthquakes, or any other potential natural disaster. ua-cam.com/video/kON2ThgCAJg/v-deo.html&ab_channel=EdaanFriedman

Oh um when you played to first SD 10 and I know that sound didn't sound like the SD 10 that I remember?
what's up with the scaffolding on the sirens pole. is it for maintenance?
It's for access to the control panel, so yes, maintenance. Or for those out there that climb the poles to safely get a better look :D
Is there any air raid siren working?
