- Auckland is full of hidden gems- often hiding in plain sight. There are our latest discoveries- a traditional German bakery, a Hong Kong street food cart that parks up in supermarket carparks and the best Nepali food we've eaten in New Zealand.
What we ate and where we ate it:
1. Diehl's Bakery, 5/65 Hillside Road, Glenfield, Auckland 0627. Open Wednesday to Friday 7am-3pm and Sunday 7am-1pm. Individual items range from $3-$15.
2. Jack's Corner Cafe. Open Saturday at Albany Tai Ping Supermarket carpark 12pm-5pm. / jackscornercafe
HK style milk tea $5, HK style cold lemon tea $7, curry fish balls (6 pieces) $6.50, crispy salted chicken $11, fried stuffed treasures (8 pieces) $13.
3. Timmur Nepalese & Indian Cuisine, 4/1784 Great North Road, Avondale, Auckland 1026. Open 7 days, 11:30am-2:30pm and 4:30pm-10:30pm. Cannon shots $10, Lamb Jhol Momo $17, Dal Bhat Thali $32, Lamb Choila $22

I used to work downtown and would occasionally have the treat of buying from a taco stand and sitting on the edge of a sidewalk planter to eat. For some reason, seeing you guys set your food down on shopping baskets and eat standing up gave me such a vivid memory of those quick lunch breaks. What a great video!

The German Bakery and the Nepalese Restaurant were both amazing, every single dish. Since I live on the Shore I will definitely get down to that bakery. You could do with a fold up table and chairs tucked away in your car instead of the supermarket trolley servery. What a treat of a video! Being of German stock, the bakery spoke to me. I'm a bread-o-holic, and finding light, fluffy bread puts me over the top. I live in the middle of nowhere, and there are lots of things I like about it, but the lack of good, diverse food options isn't one of them. Fortunately, because rents are cheaper here than in the cities, there are a lot of Mexican folks. There are 3 good Mexican restaurants in my little town, so I at least have some "exotic" options.

I don’t know where to begin! That Nepalese food looks beautiful and instantly made my mouth water. I’m glad you featured them because people should seek them out. Clearly, Zadie girl showed a preference. But for a carb-o-holic like me, the German bakery was like glimpsing Oz. When Thomas went full boa constrictor on that poppyseed cheesecake, I think I felt my loins stir. 😜🙌😘

Firstly, you are so lucky in Auckland with the number,variety and quality of eateries. Secondly, I was in Nepal in 1995. To be honest, the food wasn’t great. But, that place looked yum!
This was easily some of the best Nepali food we’ve ever eaten. We found we had to really hunt around and travel out of the centre a bit when we were in Kathmandu when it came to good eating. I used to work at Blackforest gourmet butchery in Tauranga and used to love Friday cus we would get a delivery of freshly baked goods from this bakery to sell in the shop. I always used to get a pretzel and a loaf of bread for myself hehe
