It’s been a while since we filmed in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and with the ever-changing food scene we thought it was about time to put together a series of spots we’ve been meaning to hit up for ages as well as old favourites which we’ve never had a chance to share on the channel!
What we ate and where we ate it:

What an epic troika! That meal at Tokki was a dream. (You never mentioned the eggplant. How was it?) The ASMR on the banh mi made my mouth water and the toasties made me tear up with longing. Pip is going to come out with intact incisors and a hunger for bread, meat and noodles! Sending big love. 🙌❤

Good to see you back in Auckland! Everything at Tokki looked great, but what really had me drooling was the banh mi. The crunch on that bread was insane, and the veggies were so fresh and vibrant. YUM!!! The cheese toasties looked good, too...though I'm not a fan of sourdough. Maybe being grilled with all that butter, and offset by the sweetness of the caramelized onions, it wouldn't bother me.

The sourdough didn’t have a strong flavour and you’re right the caramelised onion, cheese and bacon were intense so you’d probably enjoy it! I can’t say for sure who uses msg and who doesn’t but a few of my fave spots include: Golden Garden for Cantonese roast meats, Java for Indonesian, Jinwiede Beef Noodles for beef noodle soup, Udonworks for udon and Pearl Garden for yum cha! Hmm, I'm a big fan of the channel and have to say Sheena is looking more glorious every day. But,.....sometimes I think...'Just eat it! It's getting cold while you talk and talk."
The other issue is that I'm looking for a word a bit like taxi that is understood every where I travel. The word would mean - "bring me some good food, please. I don't know what you sell and don't know what is normal around her. I'm not a fussy eater, and I don't have issues around gluten, dairy, halal, Hindu, kosher or the roundness of the peas. I just want good food that most of the locals enjoy. Please bring me some good food!"
Can you help me out with this? My life would be so much better if I could just use a word like "taxi" to order some food as I travel the world.

Hahaha we very rarely have a hot meal when filming for the channel but to be honest we’re really used to it and when the food is room temperature the flavours are often more pronounced. It would also be a really lame video if we didn’t get all the footage 😆 As for the word you’re after, we always learn the word for delicious in the local language wherever we travel so if by chance we wander into a restaurant/by a street food stall etc and haven’t done our research we can always just ask “what’s delicious?” 😄 Thanks for watching this one Mark, hope you enjoyed it!
