- My ode to the Friday Fish Fry, a time honored tradition in the Midwest. As a New Yorker, when I moved to Minnesota 30 years ago I was hesitant about fish from the lake. But living here for 30 years, has definitely changed my perspective. Watch this video to learn how to make my favorite fried fish recipe and to get all my tips and tricks!

Chef has slimmed down! He looks great and I'm sure his health is better as well. So happy for him😀
Not only is Andrew a great cook, funny, and has shows that I love watching above any other chefs.... but the honesty, specially at the end of this video... raised my respect another notch for him. Thanks man, hope to see you for many many year on TV still.. love ya!
I love this channel and I respect Andrew so much. I must have watched every Bizarre Foods at least 3 times. That show is is solely responsible for how broad my taste in food is, I dont turn my nose up at anything. Much love.
I still watch Bizarre Foods every night while I have a snack before bed. I'm currently on the episode The Business of Food. I'm addicted to that show. Been watching it for years.
you all prolly dont care but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account?
I was dumb lost the login password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Skyler Wilder instablaster =)
So nice to hear all the causes you’re involved with! Really really nice!

@@AndrewZimmern You are my favorite Chef, Andrew!!!!!
I have so much respect for you!!!
And you’re an excellent teacher😉
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Thank You Andrew and crew for being here. Thank you as well to your sponsors. This is enjoyable and educational.
I'm so upset that I just found out about this channel! Growing up as a kid watching your shows was truly was my inspiration to get in the kitchen. Keep these vids coming!
I love doing this every time when we go fishing all the time with my dad and all of his family members
Andrew... I've cooked fish for 50+ years in cornmeal. Today I used panko. Marvelous color and texture. Panko forever! Thank you!!
Came to see Andrew, stayed for the recipe. Looks gotdang delicious, and I'm trying it this week! Thanks for the inspiration! 💗
Awesome! Thank you! Hope you enjoy the recipe Marian
Have just started using panko bread crumbs in the last year. I will never use anything else. Fish turns out restaurant quality every time. Love the video AZ!
Good for chicken strips too. 100.
In Upstate NY, around Syracuse Friday fish fries are super popular. Fried Haddock is awesome!
It would be super dope to see you make a camping, fish fry vlog.
Maybe one day!
@@AndrewZimmern you should try and collab with some other youtubers. 🤞🖖
Thanks for the cooking lesson. Fun and informative 👍🏼
That sauce! That sauce! That sauce!
A work of art on that plate you rock Zimmer
Living in the west, panfish is one of the things I absolutely miss the most about the Midwest. Crappie, bluegill, perch, pike (yes, pike, filleted bonelessly is fabulous), and of course walleye. sigh
You can catch all of those except the pike, in the West... if you decide that you want to.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 Something about the lakes of the Midwest just make me have to go fish, but yes, you're right. It's weird, I love to fish back home, but never do in the PNW, except for a few times off the coast.
Fellow fisherman and chef here. Love your content. Great recipe. Gonna give it a ahot tonight
I only want to watch your new videos so make a lot of videos, thanks MR. Andrew Zimmern!
That foundation is amazing from such an amazing person thank you!
Growing up I remember going to the St. John's Jonah Fish Fry. Always great!!!!!
Western NY state here; Friday night fish fry (haddock) is on every restaurant menu. Love fresh, locally caught fried crappies!
Love this!
Thx Pard.
How about a vid on your kitchen set up.
PS - just ordered a jar of the French Kiss seasoning. Can't wait to try it on my fish.
We love watching you man. I'd love to see you go to Robert Arringtons ranch (deer meat for dinner) and y'all could hunt wild game then both of you do a version of what you harvest. That would be great
Love it!! That sauce looks fantastic.
Thank you Cibele!
Old man that looks really delicious thanks
Thank you!
You are now speaking my love language Andrew! ❤️😂
Me and my wife were just talkin about some good fish we live here in the Cincinnati area so Alabama's is our go-to... until now🤤
long time ago in Cincinnati there was a seafood restaurant called The Capital that was only open in months with an r in it. I had my first fried oysters there when I was about 2. Well they had been my dads but one taste and I was hooked and dad had to order another serving for his self. I have wondered what became of it.
@@cerwyddi I've lived here my my whole life in Cincinnati I'll ask my father he knows Cincinnati history pretty well I'll get back with you about that
@@rifsundergroundgrowmie2603 for a time frame, I was born at Christ Hospital in 1954. So it was there in the late 50s into the 60s. Dad died in 1964 and we didn't go out like we had when he was alive and we were living in Mason.
I love the taste and texture of corn meal on my cat fish. loved the ideas you shared thank you for your knowledge
You are so welcome and thank you for watching!
Thank you for sharing. Just got home from ice fishing with a batch of bluegill. Look forward to applying your techniques
I eat fish on the weekly and have been looking for a good tartar sauce, hate the store type so I'm really stoked in trying your recipe, thanks for the video got me going tot he kitchen to fry me some fish
Man Bluegill is the best for fish fry. Although I’m more partial to beer batter than breadcrumb for fish
Looking so delicious, greeting new friend
I am from north central MN. Love your videos!
I live in the North Country of NY on the Mighty ST.Lawrence river. Fish fries are just as much as a ritual as anywhere. Its just not a mid western. PS we use the same fish too. We're very rural here also.
Yes yes yes excellent choice!
love you andrew your awsome
Very nice. Similar to fish n chips to me.
I can dig whats going on in this video, but in my part of the country a fish fry is catfish in corn meal.
Beautiful indeed sir
Great idea to use loaf pans for breading meat or fish!
I hope it's not too late for viewers find you with your new great edited videos! good luck to you!
We do a lot of fried catfish down here in Central TX especially from our local VFW for fundraisers and it's great! Looking forward to trying this style!
That looks delicious
Thank you!
I have always used corn meal for frying fish but I've got to try the panco breadcrumbs.
You should!
@@AndrewZimmern wow thank you so much for replying to my comment it means the world to me.
Glad I found your channel💞
Love ya buddy, you're a legit regular Joe and its great! Looking fit too bud!
love the change in your derection , -Spook
Come to Michigan Andrew! We’re allowed 6 walleye per person per day! We’d be happy to send you home with a cooler full!
Wish we had some walleye in Texas
love fried fish and fried shrimps
All the lake fish you mentioned is great, but if you get the chance try Blue Gill. The sweetest lake and stream fish you can eat. Not bazzar at all. Lol.
Oh, you mean "Fish & Chips"?! Yum! Looks good.
That looks tasty...fish and chips!
Funny, i have a bottle of Flor de Cana at home!! 😂
Favourite favourite food
I live in Columbus, Ohio. But when I was a kid, we had a place up at Lake Erie where we would spend all of our summers and I grew up eating Walleye, Catfish and Crappie. Walleye, especially, is some good eating. I wasn't crazy about Perch, though, which we always had an abundance of. I'd hold out for the Walleye and the Catfish. Ocean Perch is good, but lake Perch is way too fishy for my taste.
Now that's good eating, we eat a lot of that here in upstate NY, that tartar sauce is the bomb tho
Buffalo is the epicenter for fish fry in WNY
Andrew Zimmern you should pickles some some of the fish pickled Northern
That was inspiring, hope mine will turn out too.
IMHO dried sandwich bread (even the best kind) has additives and does not work well for drying and making bread crumbs. Stale sourdough works better for me. I agree with you that panko is great. As we say in Brazil “ when the team is winning, do not change the players!”. Great video. Thanks
I'm a fish & chippy!!! 🍻🍺🐟🍟
I Love Its
Now that’s eating!
I love fried blue gills
If it looks good, eat it! 🤘
What time can I come to eat? I'm in St. Paul!
😍😍
I wish the actual recipe was here... I’m not good at eyeball cooking!!
Althea stop saying you can eye ball cooking, its easy..just season your fish with salt and pepper are any seasonings you want. You dont have to use eggs, flour and those bread crumbs he using..Corn meal work.just fine simple.
I found the tartar sauce recipe on his website, so that was nice at least.
How do you compare the Midwestern fish fry with the Southern catfish fry?
What’s the best freshwater fish to eat
Would help to hear the producer questions
Tasty!
Friday fish fry are because some religions do not eat meat on Friday during lent.
I hear this is why McDonald's had their filet of fish sandwich special deal on Fridays for decades.
Isn’t it better to season the flour / egg/ breadcrumb?
Who made your apron?
It never fails to amuse me: Herb has the letter H . It should be pronounced Herb not Erb. Fillet comes from the French and we probably pronounce that wrongly. What do we know, we are only English 🤣
Q: Do you ever cook vegan or non meat dishes?
I’m the first to watch and comment
how about Dukes Mayo? its a different taste but so good with ice fish. Respect from Manistee MI
They do not have Dukes here in Mn
Have you ever had a Mullet gizzard?
Go with beer batter in a bag. So much easier cooking up a ton of perch.
,7
That's a much more polite pronunciation of crappie than I'm familiar with.
The fish in our lakes should only be consumed by the person who catches them and his immediate family. They should never be given away!
Wtf is wrong with sharing, commie?
This is like the New York city government telling churches that they can't feed homeless people because the salt content might be too high.
Now, Jesus isn't allowed to give away a fish.
👍👍👍👍🤤🤤🤤🤤
no dill in the tartar sauce?? ouch
What, no lutefisk? No pike or carp? I have been eating those fish all my life, panfish are way better than any store bought. I dont eat lutefisk by the way.
Just like the Packers, Wisconsin walleye is better...
COD!
Andrew, you lost a ton of weight! 👍🏻
Hell yes, this is the grub we want. Brew some beer. Do some stuff.
Frankly, nobody wants grasshopper recipes. Not even vegans.
he does not drink alcohol , no drinking over 10 years . so brewing beer would be unlikely.
@@ywdwarner
Okay, well I meant root beer, obviously
Great final product as usual and waiting for more but get rid of the drunken sailor running the camera and bring back your overseas camera crew who knew what they were doing.
He lost some weights!
Why kill the taste of the fish with tartar sauce fresh fish cleaned right is doesn't taste fishy
Where the hell is the cream of tartar Andrew? That's why they call it tartar sauce. Come on man.
Shave! Please if you like to.
One person in the house? Are you no longer married?
Seeing someone who has eaten grubs, bull testicles, sea anemone, octopus ink sacs, maggot infested cheese or camel hump sausage cooking something as normal as fried fish is pretty confusing...
Love the Marxist wrist ban
