Hmm. In a ten-minute video you can't take a few seconds to mention that wild rice isn't in fact rice? That's the kind of sloppiness that can turn an A into an A-minus.

Delicious and I never tried the rice or beer but you can just tell by looking. Thank you Mother Earth for this gift that you give us, the human people, everyday.

A little info for people who are grossed out by the worms: Before being sold, the rice is dried, cleaned of worms, and toasted so that the husks and any other grossness is removed. I can't guarantee it doesn't have a bug or two, but certainly no more than most food products (let a bag of flour sit open at room temp for a while and see what happens). From every bag I've had, I've only seen uniform rice, no weird extra thick "grains" or anything suspicious.
I didn't know that wild rice isn't common throughout the US. And yes, it really is as good as they describe it-especially in some Chicken Wild Rice Soup!
I've been to Minneapolis three times and ate very well indeed. Had a couple of Jucy Lucys of course and looked for tater tot hotdishes but never thought about chasing down some wild rice...not sure I had any actually. Shoot. Extremely interesting episode. Native American youth substance abuse is well known but never considered the labor implication with respect to tribal traditions/restrictions. Well done, Thrillist.
+Sarah Nater Interesting. I've had wild rice many times over the years almost always as a side dish; a couple of times as a main. Will have to look for it in soups. 👍
The food in Minneapolis blew us away, honestly. Not that we were expecting anything less, but it was just so consistently impressive. And yes -- the substance abuse, coupled with the draw of personal technology, and the gaming business, has definitely had a widespread impact on the lives of this generation of Ojibwe. It's a fraught topic for sure, and we were wary of glazing over it too much. Glad it got you thinking a bit! Thanks for watching & commenting.
Seen the ad for this channel and clicked... it said wild rice, and I could live off of it, if I could afford it for the whole family. Subbed and Liked! Even though I'm not one to take pretty pictures of food, I sure like to cook and eat it.
Kewl shoutout to Galactic Pizza. Worked on the construction team when they opened, glad to see they are still going strong. The Shroomer was my face when I still lived in MN
I know it's not "food" but an episode about all the award winning craft beers of Colorado would be cool. Here in co we don't have a 'food staple' but what we do got is good beers
Hey Everyone, check out our recent episode: Tampa Bay's Iconic Cuban Sandwich - ua-cam.com/video/QPPOxMzNXEk/v-deo.html When you think about Cubans in Florida, you probably don’t think of Tampa. But you should! Sure, today, Miami has the biggest concentration of Cuban-Americans in the state -- and the country, for that matter. But back before Miami was even a city, it was here, in Tampa, that the cigar industry boomed and the iconic Cuban sandwich was born. You know: soft Cuban bread, shredded pork, glazed ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard, and -- as is custom ONLY in Tampa -- Genoa salami. And while Miami basks in its well-deserved reputation as the epicenter of modern Cuban America, 400,000 Tampans patiently wait for their town to get its historic Cubano due. So we came to Cigar City to do just that.

I live in downtown Minneapolis just a block away from the brewery and I love this video. Makes me proud that I can call this city my home.
Hey, that's awesome! Thanks for watching.

this was super interesting! especially the focus on the native population and their relationship with rice.

That's the most important part!
The focus on the native population? Lol. Do you know what it’s like on the reservations? How do you think they’re actually treated?

I was expecting a video showing how to cook wild rice and got a video that should be titled “A Cultural View On American Indian Minnesota Wild Rice”.
This one was outstanding! Loved it!

Not American Spirits, black pack?
Spirits. School bus yellow pack
But what does the rice taste like?
Nutty. Earthy. Not rice. It's a grass seed. You gotta try KC brand or MN Harvest. Dont buy cali grown. It's not "wild"
