Unfortunately due to my bowel disease I'm not able to use most supplements because they either don't get absorbed properly, or completely upset my bowels and cause more problems. Exercising more often is my goal to help strengthen my muscles and hopefully will also help with terrible fluid retention. **Fizzy Drinks...in Canada we call them Pop....most people are aware of how much sugar are in these drinks, but I never hear anyone explaining to the public just how much sodium carbonated drinks contain...some have 15-25mg of sodium in a regular size can of pop, so I can't imagine how much is in a large drink from a fast food restaurant. How long is this menopause gonna last? I started at 46 and I am now 48 . They say 10 years. Should I look forward to being 56 for it to end ?? Thank you xxx
Hi Sallyanne This is a difficult question to answer as it is different for every woman. The average time is about 5 years but for some women it is less and for others longer. However, for those whose menopause goes on for a long time, very often there are other health issues involved so the more you can take care of yourself the better in the long run!
im 58yrs.looking like.20.3o but suffer from alots of pain.like quisted pine.pain all over the body.cant sleep at night mostly.but im still going.thanks for your video
Thank you, thank you, thank you. After watching this video I started taking devil’s claw, flax oil, and glucosamine and my body feels normal again. Thank you!
im in full menopause but suffering with pelvic pain , and swelling on the points of joint pain , is pelvic pain common , also ovarian pain , pain after urinating
Hi Rainey These pains are quite common in the menopause but it is wise to get them checked out by your doctor. Other issues such as a prolapse, cysts on the ovaries or fibroids can be a factor so a proper diagnosis is important for best treatment. Best Wishes Eileen
What about heavy legs and feet. Is this common going through menopause., because I have many days I can’t walk, and standing 8 hours at work, I’m worried there’s something else going on, I asked my doctor and he’s saying everything is ok not to stress myself to much, this is affecting my life every day…Ugh help me please
Hi I just entered into menopause. What are your thoughts on intermittent fasting? I’ve been doing 18:6 but I’m finding that my anxiety is worse from not eating in the morning. I’m trying to drop the belly fat but this seems to counteract my electric shocks, anxiety, headaches… thank you for your videos.
Hi Zoe I tend not to recommend IF, the hormonal changes can have a huge impact on blood sugar control so leaving a long gap between eating can cause sugar/carb cravings, bingeing and also affect the nervous system leading to anxiety, panic attacks and poor sleep. I have posted a vlog on belly fat and a good book to read is The Metabolism Miracle by Diane Kress (on Amazon) www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/menopause-belly-fat-and-how-to-lose-it/ Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Elee I m having all these symptoms 😮specially hip pain which radiant down to calf some time .Dr is not able to identify any thing . I m going through hell.
Sorry to hear you have all these symptoms. You can try our Atrosan tablets for aches and pains, they are a natural anti-inflammatory and are suitable to take long term. www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/devils-claw-atrosan/ You can also try Atrogel arnica gel which you can use topically. www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/arnica-gel-atrogel/ That sort of radiating pain often has a nerve component so you could also try Hyperiforce known for low mood this herb is also great for nerve pain. www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/st-johns-wort-hyperiforce/ You can try this if you are not taking any medication (this one isn't suitable alongside any pharmaceutical medications.) I would also suggest seeing a physio or a practitioner like an osteopath or amatsu practitioner who may be able to help as well. I hope this helps!
Hi i've just found Eileen and your channel in March 2023! I am watching the aches and pains videos. Can I ask please if lower abdominal pain/feeling of strain could be thought of as perimenopause? I'm 49 and still having regular periods. I went to GP who did blood test for Ovarian cancer marker, negative. In a nutshell the pain feels like the sides of my tummy, and the top of my groin are being pulled/strained. I take ibuprofen and use a hot water bottle! I guess I am seeking some reassurance this type of pain IS connected to perimenopause. I feel like if I know what it is, I can learn to accept it. Thank you Eileen/A.Vogel if you are able to reply. Sarah.
Hi Sarah Did your doctor also physically examine you to see if it could be a prolapse, cysts/polyps or fibroids? If not, please do go back to them and ask for this or they may organise a scan/ultrasound. Very often, as hormones change, fibroids can become more evident or even grow bigger if you had them already, polyps and cysts can also develop and they can all cause this kind of discomfort. Either is a really common occurrence in the peri-menopause and can be easily controlled. It could also be a prolapse; this is where the bowel, or womb or bladder 'shifts' position in the pelvic area and this too, can cause the same kind of symptoms. It's always best to get any of these diagnosed properly so you know the best way to treat them. Best Wishes Eileen
@@AvogelCoUk thank you for taking the time to reply to me. No they did not do any of this or check for any of this. I will make another appointment. Really appreciate your advice, thank you.
@@AvogelCoUk Eileen just wanted to let you know I had a private well-woman pelvic scan including trans-v ultrasound yesterday and there are no abnormalities just one tiny fibroid. I've also started the NHS Squeeze app for pelvic floor and this has started to improve my strength tummy wise so I am hopeful this continues! Thank you again for your guidance, having had the ultrasound and getting the all clear I realise how emotionally relieved I am and this is helpful in moving forward with staying well! All the best, Sarah.
Thank you so much. I feel back pains almost everyday, specially when I have anxiety. Is iron deficiency a symptom of menopause or is menopause affect the iron supply in our body? How about our eyesight? My eyes aches and have eyebags.
Hi Loida, Low iron can often occur in the menopause especially if you had heavy periods in the peri-menopause or if you are vegetarian or vegan. It is not advisable to take an iron tonic unless you’ve been tested and are anaemic; because you no longer get periods you can end up taking more than you need which could cause problems as well. Eyes can often be affected like this; you may find a supplement called Sea Buckthorn oil capsules can help and you could use our soothing eye drops. Bags under the eyes can often indicate dehydration so remember to drink plenty of plain water every day! www.omega7.co.uk info on the Sea Buckthorn www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/extra-moisturising-eye-drops/
thankyou very much. pain is always there. all joints and all weaker areas. everyday day different parts of the body are sore. still not clear weather joints will deteriate and whether i need to do something for for this. looking for herbal remedies.xx
I badly hurt my tail bone twice in my life but last 2 years (I'm 62) it's giving me problems it's like I've hurt it again! And it's so painful and I can hardly walk at times, if I sit down and try and get up I could scream with pain. I'm in Hrt not helping.
Hi Pam Old injuries can often reappear! I would suggest seeking the advice of a Chiropractor; they can examine you and find out exactly what's happening and, hopefully, offer you a treatment plan. Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Athiletchumi If you have continual headaches then it is very important to get this checked out by your doctor first. Low magnesium and dehydration can also be big factors so remember to drink lots of plain water every day and you could also take a magnesium supplement, approx. 150mg twice a day with food.
Hi Anita Unfortunately, this is a difficult question to answer as it is different for everyone. This is one menopause symptom that does need taking care of as symptoms may continue if any specific damage is done in the menopause. Best Wishes Eileen
You're welcome, just remember to get any tingling checked out by your doctor! Tingling can indicate low B12, nerve damage or even diabetes so it is important to investigate.
Hi Illa Pain starting again after so long is unlikely to be hormone related so it is wise to get a check up from your doctor for a proper diagnosis and a treatment plan, if needed. Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Janice Hopefully, the tips in the video will be of help for you. If you are experiencing constant pain with your stomach, it is really important to get this checked out by your doctor; there could be a number of reasons so you do need a proper diagnosis to get the right treatment. Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Lisa If you are in a lot of pain it is important to go and see your doctor just in case there is another underlying health issue but, hopefully, the tips will be of benefit for you. You could also try the sage for the flushes and add is a high strength magnesium, approx. 200mg twice a day, for the sleep. www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/sage-tablets-menoforce/
Hi This could be caused by a number of issues so it is wise to get this checked by your doctor first for a proper diagnosis. Once you know what's happening, it will be easier to resolve Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Tina Yes, haemorrhoids are quite common; falling oestrogen can weaken the digestive tract and also cause constipation which can be a major factor. A daily glass of prune juice can often help with this and remember to drink plenty of plain water every day. Immune faction can also be compromised, making allergies worse so you may find a course of the herb Echinacea, for a month or so, can be helpful. Pain in upper legs could be due to a number of factors so best to get this diagnosed by your doctor first. Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Iris I think it's best to get this checked by your doctor first for a proper diagnosis as there could be a number of causes for this Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Carolyn Taking a specific hair supplement can often be of benefit (see www.vitalbiotics.com) and just check your diet to make sure that you are getting plenty of health fresh foods and protein to give your body all the nutrients it needs for healthy hair. Also see your doctor about this, if you haven’t done so already, to test your iron, vitamin D, B12 and thyroid function as low levels of any of these could affect hair growth.
Carolyn Jones-Winfield I take multivitamins and minerals plus bio identical (HRT). The vitamins doesn’t stop you from balding. You will have to see a dermatologist but they will give you shots of Cortisone in the bald spots of your head. It could take up to 3 to 6 months to see results. The second option is getting women Rogaine from cvs, Walgreens, Target etc..... You can do all above. Best wishes.🌺
I have had those symptoms in perimenopause in which no doctor could find anything wrong. Eventually they went away. I’m having them again in menopause and it’s a very concerning and terrible feeling. Was looking for anyone else with these symptoms.
I am 54 yers old now my last menstration is july coming 2 months my mentrsion stop but this october i have mentrasion again so many blood its normal only thank answer
Hi Amyesha Although frequent/prolonged periods are quite common for some women as they approach the menopause they are not good for you and could cause anaemia. This in turn can trigger fatigue, low mood/anxiety, poor sleep and joint aches. It is important to get this checked out by your doctor; they may be able to give you something to stop the bleeding and also check that there are no other issues involved such as fibroids, polyps or a prolapse which may be contributing to the bleeding. Best Wishes Eileen
am feelin chest pain pain in my upper body up my back and pain on the left side a my upper rib and my left leg numb and pain too and some i feel cool and my blood runs cold too
Hi Charmain Please do get these chest pains checked out by your doctor first, just to rule out any heart issues which can, commonly, appear in the menopause. They can also make sure that the numbness is not connected. If all is well then you may find a magnesium supplement can be really helpful and remember to drink plenty of plain water every day as dehydration can make symptoms worse! Best Wishes Eileen
Hi maam can i ask something....actually my age now is 46 ..is it normal if i feel my breast bcme big and somthing pain...also is it normal if my period missing 1 month but bfore months im having period long bfore stop only 5 days and bfore months is 10 days ..and now not coming if this month
Hi Lilian Changing periods are often one of the first signs that you are approaching the menopause and you are just in the average age range, 45-55. Breast tenderness is also very common and often caused by your hormones changing quickly. However, it is wise to get any breast changes checked out by your doctor as well. Best Wishes Eileen
Hi eleen how are you merry Christmas eleen and happy new year eleen I have muscles arm aches a lot I took pain medicines but no help so pls help what I have to do this arm muscle pain killing me makes me cry . These days here in California very cold and other thing is coved .dr not seeing physically just over the phone said take ibuprofen but no help so pls help me
Hi Anita Happy New Year to you too! I would suggest going to your local health store and asking for a natural anti-inflammatory herb; there are lots to choose from such as Devils Claw, Ginger, Turmeric, cherry juice. They should be able to help you choose one for your particular situation. I would also recommend a daily fish oil capsule. Nettle tea, every day, can often help, and remember to drink lots of plain water every day as dehydration can make joint pain worse! Best Wishes Eileen
We have a remedy called Plantago which it recommended for blocked or inflamed sinuses. You could also add in the blocked nose spray. www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/plantago-lanceolata/ www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/blocked-nose-remedies-sinuforce/
I dont seem to have any joint pain....almost all of my pain is in the muscles, in addition to muscle weakness.....in my back, in my arms (especially forearms), my lower legs, neck, wrists, hands, and fingers. But I dont notice that the pain is in the joints. Much of this video talks of joint aches and pains so I'm wondering if this is normal?!?! I have tried turmeric and black pepper to no avail!
Muscle aches and pains can often indicate low magnesium which is really common in the menopause. You may find a magnesium supplement, approx. 200mg twice a day can help quite quickly. However, if it doesn’t show any improvement after a couple of weeks then it is best to get this checked out by your doctor just in case it isn’t related to the menopause.
Hi I have posted a video blog on joint pain and what you can do to help yourself so please do take a look. www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/joint-aches-and-pains/ Best Wishes Eileen
Although it is not so common to have periods this late a small number of women do. Very often this is hereditary so you may find other close female relatives were still having periods at this age. However, if you are worried at all please do see your doctor. Best wishes, Eileen.
My sister's last period was when she was 58. I had my last period two years ago when I was 56. It can very well be hereditary yet my mother stopped at age 53. Just now starting to get joint pains and muscle aches, and drier skin. Mid life is definitely a trying time.
Hi DC Muscle weakness is often caused by falling oestrogen but lack of exercise and a low protein diet can also be a factor. Regular exercise is really important to keep the muscles strong (use them or lose them!) and just make sure that you are getting enough protein with every meal. Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Ms. Vogel. I have this white coat syndrome the makes my bp rise when I visit a doctor, can I ask what's the recommended dosage (mg) of magnesium when you're taking bp medications? Thank you so much for replying.
I'm perimenopausal started a few months ago, very fatigue and achy all over Dr ordered lab work and everything was fine says i don't need to add anything to my diet because i'm not deficient, so I'm thinking is something i'm eating too much of like sweets and alcohol. am i correct?
Hi Gaby Yes, too much alcohol and sugary foods can certainly affect your hormones, energy levels and the joints! Remember, too, that dehydration can be a big trigger in all these symptoms so don't forget to drink lots of plain water every day, over and above your other drinks. Best Wishes Eileen
I had complete hysterectomy they took it all about a year n a half ago at age 41, I was in Peri menopause then of course it through me into full blow menopause a couple months after my doctor put me on esteridol but have had a lot of dryness and joint pain/swelling brain fog and headaches but my question is I have developed asthma since then that I never had before and never had trouble with my lungs before this could it be related to the menopause just curious as of if there anything I can do please respond 😊I feel as though I m falling apart
Hi, We do know that falling oestrogen can have an effect on the lungs. I have posted a video blog on this and what you can do to help yourself so please do take a look. www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/lung-problems-during-the-menopause/
Hi Stella Headaches are common in the menopause and often caused by fluctuating oestrogen levels. You may find Menopause Support helpful, as this is traditionally used to help gently raise and balance oestrogen. It also contains magnesium which is great for muscular tension headaches. Stress and dehydration can also be contributory factors, so make sure that you are drinking plenty of plain water every day. Tea, coffee, and fizzy drinks don't count and are best avoided in the menopause anyway (they can trigger hot flushes in some women). Headaches can, however, be caused by other factors not associated with the menopause, so do get this checked out by your doctor as well.
Hi Susan Body aches and pains are very common in the menopause but we do advise getting this checked out by your doctor as well just in case it is connected to other health issues rather than the menopause. Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Baljeet Both joint and muscle pains are common in the menopause but it's always a good idea to get this checked out by your doctor too just in case it is not related to the menopause. Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Sarah It can be taken as a tea, herbal tincture or tablets such as our Menoforce www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/sage-tablets-menoforce/ Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Beth Yes, itchy skin is really common. I have posted a video blog on this and how you can help yourself so please do take a look. www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/videos/simple-solutions-to-ease-itchy-skin/ Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Bina Unfortunately, any joints can be affected in the menopause but maybe get a check up with your dentist when you can get to see them just in case it is not related. Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Sharlyne Bloating in the belly can indicate digestive issues but could also be related to the womb or ovaries so please do see your doctor for a proper diagnosis first. Best Wishes Eileen
Hi Modie Although not very common some women get the cold or cold sweats and flushes rather that hot ones. It is usually caused by the same mechanism so sage should still be of benefit. However, a slow thyroid can also cause this so it is a good idea to ask your doctor to test your thyroid function just to rule it out.
Hi do hot flashes cause you to have a face rash? Then I’ll get like a burning feeling like my face is on fire then it goes away but the rash doesn’t right away
Hi Maria They may do for some people especially if you normally have sensitive skin. You may find applying a natural chamomile cream on the face twice a day soothing.
Hi Chandai Burning feet can often be caused by low vitamin B5 so you may find a vitamin B50mg Complex helpful; dehydration can also be a factor too. However, tingling feet can indicate other health issues such as diabetes so it is important to get this checked out by your doctor first.
I cant do the 2 litres of water a day , I am so incontinent. It would interfere with the job I have to do on the road. I cannot stop for the loo every 15 mins. Is there anything else I can do ?
One of the things you can do is have a big glass of water as you get out of bed (have it ready the night before) the body will usually use this and you may find this doesn’t make you go to the toilet any more. You could also have a couple of glasses once you are home for work.
In the peri-menopause and menopause the pelvic girdle muscles can weaken and this can cause the bladder, bowel or womb to ‘shift’ position and this in turn can cause discomfort or pain. It is important to get this checked out by your doctor for a proper diagnosis.
Thank you so much for helping women understand what is happening and what might help. Such an invaluable service. I am grateful as menopause and aging changes are sometimes so hard!

How long is this menopause gonna last? I started at 46 and I am now 48 . They say 10 years. Should I look forward to being 56 for it to end ?? Thank you xxx
Hi Sallyanne
This is a difficult question to answer as it is different for every woman. The average time is about 5 years but for some women it is less and for others longer. However, for those whose menopause goes on for a long time, very often there are other health issues involved so the more you can take care of yourself the better in the long run!

Hi Rainey
These pains are quite common in the menopause but it is wise to get them checked out by your doctor. Other issues such as a prolapse, cysts on the ovaries or fibroids can be a factor so a proper diagnosis is important for best treatment.

Hi Zoe
I tend not to recommend IF, the hormonal changes can have a huge impact on blood sugar control so leaving a long gap between eating can cause sugar/carb cravings, bingeing and also affect the nervous system leading to anxiety, panic attacks and poor sleep. I have posted a vlog on belly fat and a good book to read is The Metabolism Miracle by Diane Kress (on Amazon)

Hi Elee
I m having all these symptoms 😮specially hip pain which radiant down to calf some time .Dr is not able to identify any thing .
@@AvogelCoUk Hi thanks a lot for help
Sure going to buy above product.
Sarah.
Hi Sarah
Did your doctor also physically examine you to see if it could be a prolapse, cysts/polyps or fibroids? If not, please do go back to them and ask for this or they may organise a scan/ultrasound. Very often, as hormones change, fibroids can become more evident or even grow bigger if you had them already, polyps and cysts can also develop and they can all cause this kind of discomfort. Either is a really common occurrence in the peri-menopause and can be easily controlled. It could also be a prolapse; this is where the bowel, or womb or bladder 'shifts' position in the pelvic area and this too, can cause the same kind of symptoms. It's always best to get any of these diagnosed properly so you know the best way to treat them.

Hemorrhoids during menopause? allergies worst? pain in upper legs?
Hi Tina
Yes, haemorrhoids are quite common; falling oestrogen can weaken the digestive tract and also cause constipation which can be a major factor.

How to make lost hair grow back doing menopause
Hi Carolyn
Taking a specific hair supplement can often be of benefit (see www.vitalbiotics.com) and just check your diet to make sure that you are getting plenty of health fresh foods and protein to give your body all the nutrients it needs for healthy hair. Also see your doctor about this, if you haven’t done so already, to test your iron, vitamin D, B12 and thyroid function as low levels of any of these could affect hair growth.
Carolyn Jones-Winfield
I take multivitamins and minerals plus bio identical (HRT).

Hi Amyesha
Although frequent/prolonged periods are quite common for some women as they approach the menopause they are not good for you and could cause anaemia.

Hi Charmain
Please do get these chest pains checked out by your doctor first, just to rule out any heart issues which can, commonly, appear in the menopause. They can also make sure that the numbness is not connected. Changing periods are often one of the first signs that you are approaching the menopause and you are just in the average age range, 45-55.
Breast tenderness is also very common and often caused by your hormones changing quickly. However, it is wise to get any breast changes checked out by your doctor as well.

Is it normal to still have a period at age 57 ?
Although it is not so common to have periods this late a small number of women do. Very often this is hereditary so you may find other close female relatives were still having periods at this age. However, if you are worried at all please do see your doctor. Best wishes, Eileen.
My sister's last period was when she was 58. I had my last period two years ago when I was 56. It can very well be hereditary yet my mother stopped at age 53. Just now starting to get joint pains and muscle aches, and drier skin. Mid life is definitely a trying time.

What about weakness in muscles?

Muscle weakness is often caused by falling oestrogen but lack of exercise and a low protein diet can also be a factor. Regular exercise is really important to keep the muscles strong (use them or lose them!) and just make sure that you are getting enough protein with every meal.

headaches gets worse even in meñopause
Hi Stella
Headaches are common in the menopause and often caused by fluctuating oestrogen levels.

One of the things you can do is have a big glass of water as you get out of bed (have it ready the night before) the body will usually use this and you may find this doesn’t make you go to the toilet any more. You could also have a couple of glasses once you are home for work.
