Notice how Bono denies that he and the Edge are writing most of the songs when questioned about it, and then he changes the subject to playing his “Lucille” song rather than giving an executive summary answer as to who is writing the songs. Why does he do this?
The album had been #1 in USA for months at this time....i think when he said "breakthrough " in America, those guys were like, "Dude, we know you know MTV.....we been on it for YEARS. Friday Night Vids and Blade b4 that." And he's not even getting thd names of HITS right....the word "Still" is very important ...it's not "I haven't found..." it'sca song about a lifelong spiritual journey and not a country song about lost car keys. The interviewer just had terrible TAKES as the AUDIENCE sounds like an OCEAN ROARING on the other side of that curtain...everyone knew Bono was committed to sharing songwriting royalties evenly....ever wonded why these guys never fight? Start there! but as for breaktrough, Check Pride, Bad, The ENTIRE WAR ALBUM.and the "cover" comment by Clayton was meant to sound like a cheekie Beatle answer in dialect. I happen to know the woman who SET THIS interview up and I happen to know she was NOT PLEASED with it. I don't recall her ever offering him another ....with U2 anyway.
I remember Adam Curry from MTV in those days. I never knew he was as dumb as he looked. This was an example of precisely the questions an unprepared interviewer asks. Both Bono and Adam could have been a lot more vicious with Curry's stupidity. They showed grace. You can see Bono wanting to give of himself so much in this little clip and he's really struggling due to the inanity of the questions. He finally just goes to the song "Lucille" he had penned that previous spring to take the interview into another direction, thankfully.
This clip stirred a few thoughts. They did not make that interview easy. It seemed as if Bono and Adam shared ill feelings between each other just before the host turned to talk with them. Motto of this video: do NOT interview the band before they play their set; that raw built-up stage energy will be a rough pill to a swallow.
Adam Curry is actually Dutch? He had me fooled the whole time. Still, he always looked like Stewart Copeland of The Police with bad hair. Meanwhile, it's a shame that U2 and The Police never did a tour.
Bono seemed agitated from the beginning. Not neccasarilly at Curry, but probably just in being interviewed. He didn't realize at the time he was the worlds savior (/sarcasm), and still was getting used to being the center of attention.

No Agenda... Adam is a true legend...
I was at this show, right up against the stage, likely enjoying The Pretenders set right about the time this interview occurred.

Maybe doesn't want to divulge their inside "secrets!" The truth might be too complicated to put into a short answer anyway.

He was agitated at Curry
hahaha i would love u2 even if they would play things like "luciiiiiiiiiiileeeeeeee"
Yuu dont know anything about this guy..it seems!

Adam Curry was such a narcissistic punk and Bono making fun of country music actually sounds better than "real" country music
yep he's dutch and his hair is awfull
