MY LETTER TO U2-1987
I saw you guys on the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 at MTSU-Middle Tennessee State University Saturday November 28th 1987. The Bodeans opened up for you. I remember at the time Larry had a crush on Wynonna Judd and she came out and sang a duo with Bono!
I didn't have tickets to the show. A friend of mine drove us 3 hours from East Tennessee to see the show. We bought tickets at the box office for $18.50. We ended up 8th row center stage!
I remember back then the band held back tickets for fans who were willing to make the drive and couldn't get tickets via phone or record store locations.
Thanks again to Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr for making a special album and tour! I was 18 and had just graduated High School that year!
All the Best!
Gary Lagstrom
Dave obviously is a huge U2 fan. He's been a part of their career for a while now.
I remember this interview as "the one where Larry speaks". And with charm like that, he should do a lot more of it!
Classy guys. Had a chance to meet them during the Unforgettable Fire tour. So generous.
I bumped into them in Hampstead Heath in London when I was doing a semester abroad. I had been working at a radio station which broke them in the U.S. during college. It was the first hot day and everyone was in tank tops and shorts. Bono and The Edge were wearing head to toe leather. ( They wanted to be noticed.) I was right behind them and I called out, "Bono, Bono," as I wanted to let them know that I worked at that radio station and to have a small chat They acted like they didn't hear me and kept walking. 😀 Counter that with me bumping into Mike Peters a few weeks later from The Alarm (our station also broke them) and Mike was the nicest guy, very friendly.
I discovered U2 by accident lol. It was during the time when UA-cam was new in the internet. I didn't know what was the exact name of UA-cam's website back then. I was surfing the internet, searched "Utube" then I clicked U2's website and the rest was history. Been a U2 fan since then.
Haha I love that story! 😂
Are you kidding?
U2 saved rock music in the 80s.
Yep
Definitely there were one of the best bands to come out of Ireland back then
I remember that week very clearly. I was lucky to enough to be at Dave’s during that wonderful week. A good friend was working with Dave. These mate’s are the real thing. Loved when they were shoveling. Lol 😆
Bono is unintentionally hilarious in this interview
Thanks for hosting them Dave then & now.
Despite liking their music, I've never watched a U2 interview before, no better place to start then with Letterman right?
I am looking forward to the newest collaboration with David and U2
Holy Smokes David, you did it! 40ft man!
I loved every second of your hosting U2 in Dublin.
Its great!
It is outstanding, don't miss it.
I remember watching this in my campus house at college. I was so excited and was glued to the TV every night that week.
Achtung Baby, was a fantastic album!
Is, mallebrok, it IS a fantastic album.
@@SpaceCattttt you’re right, I just listened to it again after commenting yesterday.
What a bunch of nice guys. and to mention great musicians to.
I heard the U2 song "Beautiful Day" on the radio today!
That’s very remarkable and amazing what they can do on radio these days!
Berlin - Brandenburg Gates - Actung Baby I remember that. Great music and city nice too, bohemian feel, different vibe to other german cities.... and it nice to see Larry speak more, witty humorous speaker too.
It's the actor Eve Hewson's dad.
Larry Mullen Jr. looks like a mix of young David Bowie and John Paul Jones.
The Disney+ special is really fantastic!
AWESOME
Awesomeness!! 😎✊👊🍁♈🍁
I really wish they didn't delete the video of Bill Murray doing the dumpster dive. Please please please bring it back!!!
Free speech: I’ve listened to u2 since 1983 but damn are they articulate on a talk show! U2 are fantastic talkers: I don’t know why they were never talk show hosts at some point or idol hosts etc
Love U2... grew up with em, some of my earliest memories of getting into music, huge influence... but their latest output hasn't been very memorable to me personally, and this Songs of Surrender re-recorded versions, a lot of them don't appeal to me
You made the 40ft man look easy
At first?😂
"At first"
Man, I miss Dave.
At first🤔🤨
This is from 2009
To think there was a time when I thought this band was the best. Time reveals all.
Why Does Adam sound so English?
Most likely the community where he was raised or how his family spoke. The UK and Ireland can have accents that are totally almost understandable due to the area of the country they were raised in.
Because he was born in England....
U2 is the best sleep aid available without a prescription
Weird take
What goes around comes around , U2 are bad again . 1981 - 1991 is all that matters for these guys
The only thing is this is one of the most boring bands in history. Every thing they do sounds the same. The only explanation of there success is the gullibility of the record buying public who sometimes fail to see what’s talent and what’s bs. Give me rock and roll anytime 😢
Not a fan of u2. Just not good.
So why are you watching this?
Anybody asked you?
@italoazurro7351 Oh, sure, everyone has asked me.
