- In this video I speak with my first ever tutor on iTalki. Her name is Sharon and she has been my teacher for this entire two year journey with Spanish. She has literally taken me from a beginner to an intermediate level Spanish speaker. Without her I wouldn't have learned Spanish as well as I have. I also wouldn't have been able to travel to Colombia nor would I have this UA-cam channel. She has helped me so much and I am glad that I was finally able to bring her onto the channel. En este video hablo con mi primer tutor en iTalki. Su nombre es Sharon y ha sido mi maestra durante todo este viaje de dos años con el español. Literalmente me ha llevado de un nivel principiante a un hispanohablante de nivel intermedio. Sin ella no hubiera aprendido español tan bien como lo he hecho. The other Spanish speakers. I asked the girl from town are we related? Because you look just like my sister. I showed everyone a photo of my sister. They were shocked. I was happy because we were not related. I asked her if we could marry so that I could give my mother the gift of her life time. Her baby a live again. My mother was so touched when she saw her daughter again. It gave my mother a chance to die first so her first born child could live.

I have finally joined italki and was looking forward to scheduling a lesson with Sharon. Sadly, she is not currently accepting new students. Fortunately, there are many other great tutors available, but I will keep my. eyes open to see if Sharon changes her status.
Hopefully she has a change of heart, she told me about her cutting back on classes. Just let me know because I know other great tutors on Italki as well

Muy bueno el video y considero que hablas muy bien español y bastante rápido el proceso en el cual lo has aprendido. En mi caso, yo estoy luchando por adquirir inglés y llevo más de cuatro años dedicado a ello, pero no tengo los avances tan grandes que has tenido. Todos somos diferentes y no necesariamente cosas que te funcionaron a ti, me pueden funcionar a mi. Pero muchas felicidades por lo que has hecho y si te motiva aprender otros idiomas, ya tienes el camino para lograrlo. Un saludo.

This is motivating me to keep learning. I’m about a week in and I listen, study, and practice Spanish daily. I’m currently reading madrigals magic key to Spanish book. Do you recommend I start taking Italki lessons after I finish the book? And also should I aim to memorize/understand every rule in the book? (I don’t mean cram the words but like should I cram the rules). Once again, awesome channel!
Those are great questions. If you retain 60-70% of what you learn In each chapter I’d say you’re doing well. All of that stuff is so common that you will see/hear/read them again. Also once you understand 20-30% of what you hear while listening I would start taking classes on italki. Sigue adelante!
Hey mike how early into the language would you recommend an italki lesson?
I am super new to Spanish, but I want to do it properly and not just be another person with a duo lingo streak.
Would you recommend studying for a while first or just diving straight into conversation even when u can’t speak anything lol?

Check out my video titled “5 Mistakes I made Learning Spanish”. That will help a lot, I would recommend classes/speaking once you have an ability to understand 20-30% of basic spoken Spanish. From there it’s a positive snowball effect!
I’m waiting for a few more months. Maybe 1 year into learning. Then I’ll get a tutor.

Lol, you will be able to understand everything soon as you continue to study. We discussed why I chose her as a teacher, our differing opinions on our first class lol, how I progressed over time, our experience in Bogota when she and her friends showed me around, etc. Hopefully this helps!

How many hours a week did you talk with her on average?
2 - 3 hours per week for the first year. 1 hour per week since then when a few breaks in between
Did you work with her when you were a beginner? & Does she understand English well?
Yes I worked with her when I was only a month into learning Spanish and I’ve been with her ever since. She is completely bilingual English/Spanish and she speaks Portuguese a little as well.
