    I purchased this kit from Amazon not realising it was a din rail transformer but fortunately I have the knowledge to know what to do but I will be pointing prospective buyers to this excellent video so they can decide if it is for them.

      If in case someone removed the doorbell and short circuut the wires, is there a protective device to prevent the transforner from burning?

    Attaching the doorbell to the mount is a little difficult but once it locks into place it seems extremely sturdy. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxxHZwMa8CsRjYhf9s4W8w0Dwm47uytWOp I replaced my regular doorbell with this and hard wired it in, using my existing wires and mechanical chime. It works perfect so far and integrates perfectly with my blink camera system. It also works seamlessly with Alexa

    The US version does not come with any of the parts needed to install without a pre-existing doorbell. Consequently, I burned out 3 transformers before I figured out I had to order the separate pro install kit and wait for that to arrive before installation. Ring should include their custom transformer with the US Ring Pro as well. Thank you for the info.
    To US watchers, please note that his procedure won't work for installation in the US because critical parts are not included with the Ring Pro in the US.

    Apologies for the basic question... to get the power off your light switch, did you cut in to the light switch cables and run an additional two cables behind the wall for your doorbell transformer?
    How did you get the 2 cables from the light switch to the transformer?

    • @digitalconnoisseur7730
      @digitalconnoisseur7730  5 років тому +1

      We didn’t cut any cables but just fed the power from the light switch into a terminal block and spilt the power. One into the light switch and the other into a cable leading up to the transformer. We had an electrician do this, as we didn’t know. The other from the transformer (the 24 volt end) into the doorbell.

    • @vshane
      @vshane 5 років тому

      @@digitalconnoisseur7730 Ah so you installed a terminal block behind the light switch! I can see that in the video now.
      Then one cable from the terminal to the light switch (to restore light switch connectivity)
      And then another cable going from the terminal to the transformer.
      Makes a lot more sense now! Thank you.

    • @digitalconnoisseur7730

    Brilliant video. Got one question. If I brought the Byron mechanical doorbell from screwfix and want to add it to the mix. Where and how would I wire it if I hyperthetically have the exact same set up as your video. Would it be wired in series to one of the wires between transformer and ring ? If so... Wouldnt that keep the mechanical doorbell constantly ringing. Sorry for the long question.

    • @digitalconnoisseur7730
      @digitalconnoisseur7730  5 років тому +1

      It should be possible if you find a doorbell that runs on 24v, the same as the ring. I have seen online some people having issues linking a mechanical doorbell. Id contact ring directly to answer this.

      That's correct if you want a door bell to ring if your house already has one. Ours had no doorbell, wiring or chime. This meant we didn't need those parts as the transformer was all we needed. For sound in the house, we use the ring chime that came with the ring doorbell box.

    Thank you for your very nice tutorial video! Very cool, I have a question, did you require a wired chime to install this doorbell, or the chime that we hear in the inside is the one provided with the doorbell pro?

    • @digitalconnoisseur7730

    Apologies for asking a daft question but just wanted full clarity before wiring my new pro in.
    I have just had my house re-wired including a low voltage supply specifically for the door bell.
    Am I correct in thinking I can place the ring specific RCD in my consumer unit on this supply and run the wire directly into the ring pro?
    No resistors no power kit/bypass kit required? (I do not have an existing doorbell system)
    There is little regarding this on the official website at least I can’t find it
    Thank you in advance
    👍

    • @digitalconnoisseur7730
      @digitalconnoisseur7730  5 років тому

      If there is a low voltage supply and wire for a door bell, it may work off those if it's 24v and has the amps the doorbell needs. Minimum 16 volt ac is needed.

      Thanks for the reply I have a clean supply running to a single 3 pin plug in the roof space above the door

    • @Dermuu
      @Dermuu 3 роки тому

      @@digitalconnoisseur7730 after some research ring recommends using an 18 gauge cable but also a 16 or even a 20 gauge cable is usuable. This equates to (0.75mm twin 20gauge), (1mm twin 18gauge) or (1.5mm twin 16gauge). It's better I think than using a bell wire which I don't think meets the requirements.
      So you've done the right thing, better to get it correct the first time around. Great job!!!👍

    You say in the video you connected the mains supply to the plug socket....you actually connected it to the light switch utilising the Neutral at the back of the box via a connector. I am a professional Electrician. The way you have connected the mains for this door bell transformer is very wrong and unprofessional.
    Where is the means of Isolation for the transformer?? Also a lighting circuit is 6 Amps, why didn't you use a fused spur and reduce the fuse to a 2 Amp to protect the transformer??
    If I come across an installation like this I would disconnect immediately and wire this properly and safely in accordance with current wiring regulations!!!
    Public beware!!!
