    We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

    I seriously thought this just mounted on the wall and would give me video footage. this is extremely advanced for my understanding and I feel like I regret making this purchase for security. My house is old and I am not an electrician.

      A small screw on a piece of string dropped down the wall and can be picked up with a small magnet on a stick as well. Then guide the stringwith the wire taped on it through the hole.

    Did you not use a resistor between the transformer and the ring?

  • @IvonLopezArt
    @IvonLopezArt 7 місяців тому

    I would place the transformer in an area inside the house like a closet or an area where you can hide it, if available, because you don’t want to go back to the attic to replace it or work on it, especially if you live in a hot climate state like Florida.

    I'd recommend using lever nuts (wago). This is a more. Modern wire nut to use and you can have 2, 3, 4 or more holes to allow expansion if you ever want to repeat this with other devices

    • @kinkbikes4life1
      @kinkbikes4life1 Рік тому +1

      True. But with Wagos, it is recommended to know just how far back to strip the insulation on your copper before flipping the lever down. Wire nuts do the same thing with a lower learning curve.

    Nice video IF you are using a chime with the Ring. How ever the Ring is supposed to run on a 24VAC 40 watt transformer, not 16VAC. I used the 16 VAC wall wart with my first one and it didn't last long at all. A 16VAC transformer means it's running on lower voltage than it designed for. Thats not good for electronics. Think of the effect brown outs have on electronics anf light bulbs. It will cause the Ring to burnout sooner. Finding a chime that runs on 24VAC isn't that easy but can be found. However the Ring works on/with the Ring Show as well as your phone and it can be used as the ringer for the door bell and showes you who is at the door at the same time. Great for the home if you don't carry your phone with you 24/7. The thing is that no where in the info packet provided does it state you need to install a 25 Ohm, 50 watt resistor in line with the Ring when using the transformer. That little jumper in the kit isn't one of those and muct be bought separately. JFYI

    • @loganccox

    • @TekCharlie

      I've been trying to find the answer to this exact question. I purchased ring's own hardwired transformer kit for a new Video Doorbell Pro 2. The transformer instructions say in two places that a chime is required, and then if you don't want a wired chime, you're supposed to use the plug-in adapter. Do you think I can still wire directly to the doorbell? If so, why would Ring say this if it wasn't the case?

  • @scampione6018
    @scampione6018 Рік тому

    Would it not be easier to just buy a 24v plug in adapter and run those wires to the doorbell?

    • @loganccox
      @loganccox  2 роки тому +1

      If your apartment doesn’t have a pre existing doorbell they may not allow you to install the doorbell because of running the wires. There are some Ring Doorbells that you can run from a battery which may fit your needs better! 🍻

    • @loganccox
      @loganccox  2 роки тому

      Check out the link in the description that says wiring diagram then click the first one. It’ll have two door bell pros but ignore the one on the right. Basically it’s the red wire goes from the transformer to the ring. The white wire goes from the transformer to the chime then to the ring. Then you attach the pro power kit to the chime.
