TOOLMATE will replace any tools at cost if you provide proof of theft , crime reference number or insurance claim.
You guys might want to take a look at the personal security implications of the Ring line-up. Things like the police being able to take information from them from Amazon without a warrant. Just saying...
do i need to charge/replace the battery? or the wired keeps it fully charged?
Plot twist, Jordan’s fitted the door bell to make sure Lee’s not having any early finishes so he can check up when he starts and finishes work 😂👌🏻
Thats why he set it up on Jordans phone I noticed that. No 2pm finishes for him anymore 😢
Facts lol
Ok, so after watching the video 5 times 😮 tackled mine today and went an absolute treat thanks to this very detailed video, thank you very much!!
Never seen a company look after their employees like Jordan does. I’m lucky to get a new pair of knee pads from my boss lol
Thanks
Great company providing all the tools and gear, I was still chasing walls by hand and drilling through brick walls with 18v dewalt non sds, till about 3 years ago and went on my own was q nightmare
Pretty sure this was provided free by Ring.
I'm surprised you guys didn't go for the one that has poe, as wifi is pretty easy to jam
Get some decent deadlocks fitted on the van,can highly recommend Sussex Installations in Eastbourne for van security .
I agree Sussex installations do decent quality work. 👍
Cracking stuff. SelectaDNA are a good thing to look into as well, internal van alarm etc. Just throw what you can at keeping your stuff safe.
The blokes not going to cut a access hatch into a tiny porch ceiling
All good and well until the thief covers themselves with a hoody doesn’t matter how much you spend on cameras
Exactly. I bet it's really frustrating watching a thief break into your van live in 4k UHD and there's nothing you can do about it because you're in the Bahamas.
@Ellis The DJ “yes officer it was a tall skinny person (gender neutral and all that 😂) wearing a black hoody, black Adidas tracky bottoms and Nike Air Max 95’s”
Describes about oh I dunno 90% of the Chav population in almost every town or city. Shouldn’t be too hard to track them down.
I wouldn't worry - the police are rarely ever interested in the footage anyway
@@farmersteve129 ain’t that the truth , also priority is mixed up big time attend a shop lifting report in 5 mins but when my neighbour was being robbed and attacked with a knife took nearly an hour. I get safety evaluation and all that but isn’t their job to protect no matter what the situation not let joe public get stabbed multiple times because they’re “to scared” to risk getting attacked themselves doing the job they’re paid to do yet your average private in the army gets paid far less between 20-24k compared to 16-18k
@@farmersteve129 Not just uninterested but the actively do not want it.
This video is really high quality! Very nice watch :)
Where you’ve installed the doorbell, will the wall light cause any problems when illuminated? Is it an up/downlighter?
Next door looks to have a lovely black armoured cable down the front of their house! Maybe you could offer to do a bit of angle drilling to find a better route (for a small fee!!)
Haha well spotted!
I've been using the WYZE video doorbell for a fraction of the price, bought a din rail transformer of eBay for about £15.
Question, does the cable material and insulation's not react with eachother? or can you run cables in cavities for door bells and exterior lights?
@14.55 mins..........extraneous conductive part? surely as its part of the electrical system its an exposed conductive part.
My boss once told me its what you dont see in an installation that makes a great electrician .
Are there any regs (Building or Electrical) covering the routing of cables under the tiles? Not something your roofer would expect.
The wire is not unter the tiles, its in the roof cavity, he removed the tiles made a hole in the membrane and then fished down into the wall cavity... then ran the wire through the roof cavity (roofer would not find it until they removed the tiles, batons and membrane, they would then see it in the roof cavity, very normal), he probably then patched the membrane with tape and put the tiles back on.
Great video guys 👏 may look installing this myself, the picture quality is brilliant. Great idea using the cavity wall and roof tiles for the wiring.
Thanks yeah it’s a great bit of kit!
Great video chaps. Thumbs up
For DIY install, mount the transformer box near a 13A socket, add in a grommet and cable to plug and the entire install becomes an appliance. Not forgetting there seems to be a thriving market in stolen ring doorbells. It is a shame when the security device itself becomes the target for theft.
Seen the anti thief cases?
Locks and safe have been stolen. 😅
The barbarian invasion has begun.
Jolly good sales presentation folks, not very vandal proof unfortunately ???
£100.000 uk fine for ring doorbell looking into public and private locations in uk
Smart devices are ignoring data protection audio has never been legal in the uk
I'm a DIY guy only, my in laws have asked me to install their ring door bell, turns out it's hardwire, they hav an existing doorbell that's not on its own circuit, and wired to something else in the consumer unit (not sure where at the moment) is it possible to not used the included transformer and just wire it to the existing set up, providing its the same in/output power, so I'm not effectively adding to the system?
Thanks in advance
Hope the felt was repaired under the roof tiles 🙈
NOOICE!
Really fair boss! Great work Jordan. This is why your successful
Love your video editing and videos really easy to follow
Not sure I would use the pigtails and wire nuts on the doorbell.
I typically would crimp spade lugs on the twinlead from the transformer.
Fewer connections means higher reliability IMO.
Quite. why do they not just supply the spade crimps for the "pro" installer to attach directly to the cable.
Me too... introducing potential dry joints / resistance, a no no IMO
Ok this bothered me too.
Great video guys! One thing I'd like to point out is that buying an Echo Dot is much more worth the money instead of a Chime (if the Chime isn't already included in the deal). They are often offered with a discount and can do a lot more things.
I have got to agree we use Echo dots instead of a chime, I have one in the garage so every time the camera is triggered Alexa chirps out “motion detected at the front door” and any scrote approaching knows he has been spotted. Echo Shows are also useful for seeing and communicating who is at your door saves hunting round for your phone.
CJR electrical (Chris) installed the same thing (Including enclosure) 2 days ago.
Great jobs boys
I’m sure he meant exposed conductive part.
Nice video. Just wondering if you fitted the self-resetting fuse, the little white box (pro power V.2) on the output cable within the 2 module din rail enclosure.
Did you know that a family in the UK who have one of these ring doorbells has just lost a case in court? A neibour claimed that the ring doorbell was an invasion of their privacy as it picked them up as they left their home or walked past the house. This is a concerning development as it could lead to the scrapping of the law relating to no presumption to privacy in public. On another note the screw drivers are useless as they are not magnetic which means that it's very easy to loose the bottom mounted screws.
More to that than just the door bell, neighbour has exactly the same door bell but wasn't invited to court..
Great video. While this isn't a DIY job, can I do the grunt work up until the spurring off a lighting circuit, drilling through the cavity, wiring the Ring, and having it all ready to connect up to the consumer unit, then having a qualified spark come out and connect it up?
Made my own wedge from a piece of tilt fillet long before a bespoke wedge was available as my Ring was going in an internal corner
Do you have to put 2 screws on the ring pro 2 to attach to back plate as my ring pro doesn’t click into the back plate
Just an armchair suggestion, you might consider squirting a little bit of dielectric / silicon grease in the wire nuts to coat the wires so they won't corrode over time. I know your in an extremely dry climate there. 😁😁 Similar to the underground lawn sprinkler valve connectors that are already filled with them. Every little bit helps when its exposed to the rain over time.
26:53 how many Tie Fighters has Lee shot down with those cannons 🤔
You could have gone side entry to/from the din enclosure/CU save hacking the coving away like that !
I have no faith in Ring however. Sure they are popular but as a Ring 1 user for a long time and at the mercy of their bad takeover by Amazon and weak software can't say it's been fun especially in winter with no lithium charging and not surviving on the mains running. Purely a comment on Amazon and not Artisan of course.
10:44 this long wire was not supplied with my ring doorbell, did you buy it extra, where can I get it from please?
Is there a specific bell wire brand or size that you used in this installation? I installed a Ring doorbell a few years ago and as there was no chime with the package (a customer specifically order this type) I had to install a 50 ohm resistor which is attached to the wiring inside the din rail enclosure. Not sure if anybody else has had to do this before? Ring customer services insisted this was installed. They didn’t say any of this in the manual though?!
Nice install until Lee get's sued for £100,000 as has recently happened over a Ring Doorbell.
A bit daft having two tiny fixing screws on the underside of the doorbell - easily lost when unfixing.
Nice job! Just a question; The previous Ring doorbells were low voltage ac powered, I see that they have now gone to 24v dc. I didn’t see any visible polarity marks on the back of the doorbell?
How would you wire this to a chime? I know ring have compatible chimes
If a transformer is too hot its under rated for the current load.
As a start up electrical company I adore your content and videos. I always learn something from the five star electricians ! Thank you this was another great video
Excellent video, superb quality. First thing this prompted me is to search where you are located :-) sadly too far from me. Just out of curiosity how much of cost will it be for an install that you did in the video? a rough ballpark figure.
Hi! Thanks for your comment! Probably about £500 ish including materials.
What cable you using Jordan
Interesting choice to locate the doorbell on the hinge side. I was told it should be on the same side as the door handle, people tend to look there for bell pushes so I am told and in this case would that not have been more logical because the CU is on that left hand wall?
Customer decided where he wanted it. I think on the left it wouldn’t have given such a good view of the van.
If the idea was in part to look at the van, then it has to be located to view the van, regardless of which side that is.
Even if there was no van to view, a position to show the approach to the door can be favoured, especially if the option of motion detection and pre alarm is selected...as my posty found out yesterday when he denied delivering packages that were intended for a different address !!! 🤣
Mine was intalled by a non pro..me ! but, I am an ex pro, electrical and security 😁
I also used the battery version ( I just switch batteries every two months)as there was just no way without showing a cable or containment... and I have virtually every fishing tool out there, be it rods, flat rats, glow in the dark flat rats, fish tapes, various endoscopes, the Ferret camera.
I like the way they cut a hole in the felt in say the FOUND the access hole to cavity LOL 😂 🤣 🤣
Just before opening UA-cam to watch this, I was checking on my van.
Sad reality, but something that comes with van ownership these days...
We’ve all been there
@@artisanelectrics The UK is a really shit place these days.
Later that day Lee received an invoice for £350 from Jordan, just a reminder of how reassuringly expensive Artisan are
🤣🤣🤣
£340 mates rates😁
UK version of Ring Pro 2 door bell doesn't come with all the features and also no transformer in the packaging. Only the US version comes with transformer and full features.
yes this is true,,where do youget the transformer from
Great video.
But can't you wire up a spring loaded boxing glove in the van in case someone breaks in.
Remember to duck when opening the van yourself 😂
I am looking for the transformer and the enclosure. Where can i get it?
What is the make and model number of the din rail transformer enclosure
Why the huge hole in the ceiling to install that tiny transformer box.
Yugoslavia in 1960's? You mean Electricians with dental plans
Really……….. I think Artisan are on to something 😂😂
Just a little tip, don't put the stickers out!! Just buy some generic ones with no branding, if they have the brand it's easy to quickly google weaknesses and defeat security systems, with generic ones it takes a bit more effort, and is less appealing to theifs
Never thought about that but that's such a good call.
Plus you'd look less of a prick for installing ring products.
This regulation came in around 2004 (or before) Cables such as pvc/pvc insulated and sheathed cables should not be run in cavity walls.
Not sure it applies to something running off transformer
But does apply to all twin and earth cable.
just a quick question, it's a DC voltage applied to the doorbell but the terminals aren't marked + - and the cables they provide are both black, do you see where i'm going with this?
Polarity doesn’t really matter on this device
are you sure its dc?
@@front2427That question had been bugging me too. The Ring information that I have seen says that if you are making use of an existing transformer present in a door bell system, the output must be within certain AC voltage (RMS) and VA range. However, their own plug in power adapter is 24V DC 🙄. As you say, no apparent polarity on the camera/wires. For clarity, the DIN rail item appears to be a transformer/Rectifier.
Can you come and do mine please as no sparks round here seem interested!
High court case ruling today if you video anyone in a public area on the road outside your property it is now an offence and you could end up with a fine. The judge has awarded 100k to a couple who complained and the ring video door bell owner fought them in the high court and lost.
It was about a camera looking into next doors back garden. No law breaking videoing in a public street, that's what most UA-camrs do.
@@paulmoor3799 no it was because it was recording Private property without concent.
There is a bs standard that covers it.
If you cant not record the area you are supposed to use a filter mask to blur out the area.
And the same with audio. It that case it was the audio recording the judge was really not happy with.
Or just let them know and see if they mind.
@ 2:20 I assume it is called a 'Pro' doorbell because they are designed for 'Pro Consumers'... Ring literally sell a separate transformer for their wired doorbells which allow you to power them via a standard 3 pin plug socket. So technically there is no need for an electrician for this install. As long as you are confident with a drill and are capable of plugging a device into a socket then I'd say you're good to go with the install yourself.
Sponsired video alert: Ring is a rip off you have to sign up to their cloud to get video storage from their cameras.
As with pretty much every camera...
That’s a lot of work for a doorbell
Make sure you put a sign up saying images sound are being recorded. Someone just fined £100k in the UK for using a ring doorbell.
Unnecessary chat get to the point!
I have Ring products and have for many years, one big criticism I have and it's worth other people being aware of is that they are vulnerable to Wi-Fi jammers, so if someone is jamming the Wi-Fi signal it won't detect anything and will not notify you... I've experienced this myself, a neighbour had an attempted break in and both mine and my next door neighbours front doorbells didn't get any footage from the doorbell, despite them being within range, what did capture them however was our drive way ring camera, which must have been just out of range of the jammer
Yes, fit a ring a system and protect your van and property for peace of mind. Whilst fast asleep during the night or away from your mobile which you left on the table whilst working in someone's loft, your van gets emptied. You check your video footage (assuming you pay the subscription to back it up to the cloud) and there they are, captured in high definition wearing face coverings/masks etc. Problem solved, worth every penny.
Looks like Ring have been sending these out to UA-cam electricians. 2nd one I have seen this week
Everyone of them forget to mention the monthly costs if you want to make it actually useful.
you just told all the robbers his van is full of hilti gear
Is this one that Lee gets Jordan to do more work than he does
Recently just done mine but took the lazy route as I’m no electrician. I bought the plug in adapter 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Interesting regarding the legal event on the recent judgment made on the ring door bell and the case being won. The case involved claims for harassment, breach of data protection, and nuisance. worth looking into regarding fitting them and discussing with neighbours that live close to one another to avoid any problems in the future.
You can get a ring plug in transformer too if there's a plug socket near the entrance. Just wish they doubled it up as a ring chime too, wouldve been neat
Better not be spying and listening to his neighbours conversations to
Rings are fire hazards
Why’s everything DIY in the UK? I can’t buy a doorbell and get them install it for me 😩
Sad thing about the ring doorbell, it´s wireless so any chinesium jammer would take quick care of that "security" product. Security == hardwired. You need to supply power, might aswell run a UTP and do PoE like decent doorbells do.
Ring in itself also have some security risks that dont come to mind when you think about a doorbell.
Yeah, and that security screwdriver means nothing, you can buy it in a lot of shops.
But.... The jammer has to be very close so they are already on camera - same with the security screwdriver point. Ring also do POE bells and cameras if that's your preferred option. Its a deterrent - POE is great unless you cut the power, cloud is great unless you cut the phone line..... there's always a way.
@@nexustrack it doesnt, it can effectively jam wifi signal within a range of 30m or more depending or directional or db of the antenna. And sure power can be cut, a UPS can handle a PoE switch just fine for several hours. Add a remote ping service that notifies you when your IP goes down and you know exactly what happens.
I love all the sounds - mine had the update with the Halloween sounds too!! I like how you can get the doorbell to say “sorry I’m not interested” after 20 seconds of not answering :-)
Well done - excellent explanation - as an electrician myself I would not have messed up the cove for the transformer's enclosure - I would have drilled a 20mm clearance hole through the side of both enclosures - each to their own - great work.
A low visibility camera stops your van being broken into? Surely it just provides a video of the crime rather than preventing it?
You're pretty amatuer when it comes to security, pretty much all that camera will do is let you watch some unidentifiable person steal your stuff also you went to some effort to disguise where Lee lives but house number 82 clear shot of the front of the house and surrounding area "three swords electrical" and the fact you've already shown he lives in/near Harlow (CM18 postcode area, middle name begins with S surname begins with B) means it wouldn't take that much more effort to find where that van of expensive kit is.
Oh and his "Rock N' Fuckn' Roll" Twitter account still exists even though it hasn't been updated in a while.
Why is it set up on the bosses phone as well surly that can't be right I fully understand having a ring but that has to be a invasion of privacy
These two are brilliant 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙂🙂
Really nice and well explained - another excellent video. Keep up guys. I had a similar installation recently to my property. I installed an 16v door bell so I had to use a transformer. I did my research, I bought all the parts, I did all the planning of the installation but I called a certified electrician to do it for me. Despite being really into all DIY and that, I never mess around with electricity and especially when it has to do with the fuse box.
Good video but seems to be a lot of work for a video door bell.
To be honest I think fitting a 4K cctv dome camera under the soffit back to an NVR/ DVR would be preferable and no subscription costs involved.
9:17 Hole in the underlay 🤣
Ring has its own transformer cases that look much better than that metal thing. Could you not have just spurred from the porch lights, since you were using that circuit anyway and saved yourself extra wires in the consumer unit + having to do a minor works certificate?
What'd be your installation cost for this type of installation?
I have the ring pro 2 also. It's showing offline as of recently and is showing as 4v and says the transformer is not supplying enough power. What would be the problem?
Did a video about solar but wont remove someone's roof tiles 😂
Lee is so lucky to learn from you, knowing that he is being taught how to do things properly.
Taking cables down cavitys....yeah hes really taught him well 🤣🤣🤣
A good way to DIY it is to run the transformer to a 3way plug. No issues there will the fuse board 😀
New question, rather than adding to the wiring circuit and needing a minor works certificate, can I remove the old doorbell transformer and bell from the wall, use the existing load wires to power the included transformer and wire the ring camera that way, so it's more like an upgrade rather than an additional installation, which won't need a minor installation certificate?
If I already have an existing doorbell (with two wires) isn't the first 17 minutes if this video kind of redundant? If so you should really have made that clear.
cut the bush down to get better van view
very rare to see a bush these days.
