A Need for Speed - Hammerhead by Titan Dynamics

- Titan Dynamics designed a really interesting-looking plane. It's pretty small and is only about a dozen printed parts so I cranked one out with some leftover filament. It's designed for Polymaker (or Overture) pre-foamed LW-PLA, but I figured a little extra power on the tail would accommodate any weight penalty incurred by printing in PLA Pro.
Long story short, it's a fantastic little guy. Flies like a rocket, has extremely gentle glide characteristics, looks great, is quick to build, and has lots of internal space.
I built it with only speed in mind, hoping to break my personal best speed record with this one.

Nice flight dude! Great to get the kids involved too. Awesome stuff.
Thanks! Appreciate you watching! Love your vids.
Looking forward to the 2 foot flames out the back, sounds awesome!
Haha! If they had their way, every plane would feature said flames. They were actually playing the PC game "Balsa Flight Simulator" just the other day and discovered they could put rocket engines inside the EDFs to simulate afterburners on their models and they had the time of their lives. :)
Kids are more fun than the plane! Awesome!
There are so many moments I wish I could upload from our flying! They are always hilarious. Thanks for watching!
Love to see how excited the kids are watching this.😊😊😊
Indeed! They increase both the anxiety and the excitement! Ha! Thanks for watching!
Also fly with my sons and grandsons, this is the most wholesome thing I have seen on the internet in a while. Thanks for sharing! Oh and that airframe is killer.
They make everything more exciting! It's really great fun to have them along, as well as see them build their own flyings skills. Thanks for your kind words and for watching!
your lad sounds like a great pal, sure knows his stuff!
Ha! Thanks! I would say that I taught him all he knows, but sometimes it seems like he knows more than I do!
Great job, I have a soft spot for the Hammerhead because I named it ^^
Its also just a super nice design, Ive made one and its sitting ready to fly but the weather has been so bad for months now, im jealous of your weather and flying site.
Our fall weather has been so windy and now the snow has started to fall. I was lucky to squeeze this one in. I don't think the other builds are going to get in the air before full winter, unfortunately. Thanks for watching!
Good stuff! I’ll definitely have to build one of these for a winter build!
It was such a simple build, it's definitely worth throwing one together.
so AWESOME!, great build great flight coolest kid ever!!!
I was thrilled with the result, especially considering the minimal effort I expended on the build. The kids are just so great to have along; their enthusiasm is infectious! Thanks for watching!
That is one nice plane. It flies really well. I loved hearing the next generation of pilots so excited about the plane hitting 100+ mph. lol
Yeah! They are starting to build their own line-of-sight skills! Sometimes I get nervous to hand them the radio because they quickly want to find out if they can barrel roll it!
I recently printed this in both Polymaker LW-PLA and eSun PLA Plus. I printed the the fuselage of the LW-PLA version with 8% infill which is the recommended infill for more strength and the wings at 3%; with the PLA Plus I printed it all at 3%. The PLA Plus version of the plane is lighter by about 20 grams or so(I need to build them both to get the actual number, but weighing part for part it's about 20g), it doesn't feel like it's going to crumble if I look at it wrong, and it's WAY smoother(which can only help with aerodynamic performance). I honestly don't know why they even suggest the LW-PLA especially if you want a more durable plane; regular PLA at 3% is going to perform much better than LW-PLA at 8%.
TBH I'm not super impressed with the performance of Polymaker's LW-PLA. I used it to print some parts for my T1 Ranger, mainly a rear hatch that the VTX fits in and a battery tray, and neither one is significantly lighter than the PLA test prints I made of the parts. I have some of the eSun active foaming stuff, but that stuff is super hard to print with.
Awesome - thanks for sharing! 👍 What was your setting throttle % for auto-launch? I imagine it was adjusted for 6s (vs 4s).
Congratulations. 👍 👌That is fast, especially for 3D printed plane.
Thank you! I was secretly hoping for 150mph, but honestly, I wasn't expecting it.

I have the Speedybee F405 Wing, DJI Googles v2 and a Caddx Vista - how are you able to get the OSD to display?
Do you mean display in the goggles or on the DVR in this UA-cam video?
@@brubakerjm display in the goggles
@@kerrycorcoran4885 The SpeedyBee comes with a cable to plug in your Vista (you'll need to solder the bare ends to the Vista pads). I *believe* that cable is UART 5. So on the ports tab in INAV Configurator, you need to set UART 5 to either "DJI FPV" if you are using original DJI firmware on your goggles and Vista *or* "MSP-OSD" if you are using the WTF.OS custom firmware. After that is set you should be able to go to the OSD tab in INAV Configurator and layout your on-screen elements. In your Goggles, the "Custom OSD" option should be turned on, and I *think* that's all you need to do! There should be some pretty solid UA-cam vids laying out the specific details more clearly. Probably search for "inav DJI FPV OSD setup". Good luck!
@@brubakerjm Aw, thats the difference - I am using Arduplane. Thank you anyway.
