I love that Joaquin sang for this movie. It would totally suck you out of the movie if it was just Johnny Cash. He still sings close enough to sound like him but the fact that it's his own voice makes the movie even more convincing
/AWSOM\ and he didn’t. He even said it himself and the very few moments he sang it’s a mixture of many voices and studio touches so yeah, that performance seems mediocre to this.

There aren't many (if any) more talented and versatile actors than Joaquin Phoenix, I imagine Johnny Cash would be proud; robbery he didn't get an Oscar for this.
Funny how I’m not the only one who looked at Joaquin Phoenix’s IMDb and is watching clips of his previous work after that incredible Joker performance.
@@REChronic54 same. I used to watch his movies in cinema in early decade of 2000s. But after his mockumentary, it was difficult to find his movies in cinema (I'm not from US), as he mostly played in small independent movies. I am glad with Joker he is back in mainstream views.
Amazing voice transformation, physical nuances embodiment overall creation of the persona of the real Cash. They share a certain dark-aura that made it stronger still.
