very very very enjoyable episode. in depth nuanced takes on the game and great discussions. would love Seereax to join you again another time. you guys have a great synergy together.
"I don't know any other anime archetypes that were ever meta," says the man that occasionally plays Salad. 😂 Unrelated, I kinda wish they'd consider an errata to the Egyptian gods to make them closer to the TV show, removing all the debuffs to keep them from being too powerful for a 14 year old meta. Like... we can handle a Slifer that affects defense position monsters too. We can deal with a Ra that has the attack of the monsters tributed.
I guess you forgot that TV Slifer couldn't be targeted or destroyed by card effects. I'd rather not have to try to beat over a tower with all my attack being reduced by 2k. Avramax is annoying as it is. no player likes being forced to run kaiju's or any card period just to be able to play around one single card.
Finally, somebody with enough balls, the supreme Bower SeeReax, told Josh in his face why Runick is toxic. Although, I have to admit that when the deck got announced years ago I thought it was a cool deck for bringing a left behind premise (deck destruction)... No matter what type of player you're, meta or casual, you must respect the I-build-my-own-thing-and-try-to-beat-everyone-with-it mentality that SeeReax shows. I am on that wagon too. By the way, I would like a Field Trap card (the first one of the game) that recycles the Dinomorphia trap and monster cards (half your life points for each trap card or draw cards for each monster). It will also allow you to activate one Dinomorphia trap from the hand in any turn but you can't activate set trap cards for the rest of the turn.
A cool future guest would be Anthony Alvarado. He won the “Goat format” SJC back in 2005, and still plays (and dominates) the format to this day. Could be cool to hear the perspective of somebody who has been involved in a retro format for so long, and has seen how it’s evolved.
1:02:32 Honestly a Yugioh series about some of the archetypes would sound goated. I never really thought about this until the Konami chronicles video and them re-mentioning it. Sky Striker, World Legacy/Chalice, Branded, etc.

tbh, Duel Links also introduced me to Yugioh, especially when it was the early release. I played it until 5Ds world which taught the basics of the game. And from there I started playing OCG and quitted Duel Links coz it was getting ridiculous. I just learnt XYZ from a friend who plays Fire Fist and Pend from a friend who plays Qli. My first deck was Aromages coz lol duel links and used Sky Striker after some time in 2019.
Rata and Duel Links were the stuff that reintroduced me to Yugioh. It was his Legacy of the (Almost) Worthless video where I found the Steelswarm section of the video so funny I tried out Duel Links to play Steelswarms. Had my fun for about a year until I got fed up with the really slow output of Evilswarm monsters and no Xyzs. Friend told me about the browser sim Dueling Nexus and I immediately made an account to get my ass kicked running Evilswarms. From there I went down the rabbit hole until I found myself climbing Dueling Book’s ladder while in a discord call for fun on my Saturday nights.
Here's what people didn't know about MY deck, I ALWAYS put my favorite anime cards in my decks, Man I LOVE Borreload Savage Dragon and Accesscode Talker that's why they're always main stay on almost of my decklist
lol a divine beast link 1 that, searches any card mentioning a divine beast on summon and can use one one of your opponents as monsters for a tribute of a divine beast. It would be removal while also adhering to the original soul crossing restriction and saving you a card effect. Alternatively could just grab a starter or soul crossing itself.
I dont like erratas, but functional copies works better than retrains in mtg so maybe konami could take a page from their playbook there instead of doing what they did to future fusion, which could have just been banned until the game caught up to it. Instead they let cards go way past the catch up time or errata it after a ban just to unban it
An interesting question to ask would’ve been when did the idiots start having the mentality of accepting hand traps. There was a time when Rhyme was trashing Ash and asking for it to be banned
Probably when they saw there was no chance it would happen. Similar to the players in MD with Maxx C: it's there and they hate it but all they can do is losing hardcore to it or playing it too.
I don't like DM or blue eyes at all, but I would love to see a format where those are the best decks just to see the reaction of the yugiboomers. Same thing with a blue eyes and DM link monsters getting released, how would they react?
Totally agree with SeeReax, its way feels better & more proud when win with a deck that you build by yourself... Can relate with that... I myself really enjoy to experiment with a deck... Purrely Spright, Memento Chimera, etc... But sometimes you just realized that Snake-Eyes is just in another level... I maen look at the recent TCG banlist? Snake-Eyes hit? NOPE! Even in Master Duel, 1 Ash & WANTED they are still a manace... KONAMI literally murder Tearlaments... Why not murder those Snake-Eyes also? Do we need to suffer for whole 2 years from the FIRE meta? 59:06 Pretty much what KONAMI did to the retrained cards... Like Chimera / Memento... Yeah they bring back childhood memory, but literally don't need any of the older cards to pop off... Don't get me wrong, I love the new Chimera & Memento, but it's just like KONAMI run out of idea how to build a support cards around the older cards... So they just make whole new cards with similar art/name... Why not just do support card like those magicians soul/rod/robe/soul servant for DM deck. Or those Blue-Eyes support... Those are cool way to revive a deck, but do it better...
You bring up errata to make cards stronger and say that they've never really done that. For what it's worth, there is at least one example of errata making cards better and more playable: The original XYZ-Fusion monsters used to read that they could only be Special summoned by banishing the given materials from the field, i. e. they couldn't be summoned from the graveyard or banishment. Nowadays their card text says that they must be _first_ Special summoned by banishing their material from the field and that they can only not be Special summoned from the graveyard. It's not a big improvement but now they are strictly better than they were before.
I’ve never played at locals or in person. When I first started learning it was like less then a year before Master duel came out. So I am always nervous that IRL, I won’t know the rules. Yellow button helps lol. I’m asking other commenters, what do you think would be a good way to start out or what type of deck
Not that this would be better, but it would be interesting if masterduel was the testing ground for a new set and they can nerf or buff it accordingly for a printed set
59:38 Concerning a way to include the vanilla DM monsters (e.g., dark magician) in a deck to keep them relevant I've always found what konami did for infernoble charles to be crazy good Their link 1 needed the og charles So what if we get a link 1 that needs the vanilla magician And it's got a solid unique effect And if u feel that's too ez Have the link 1 need og vanilla dark magician and then... idk a equip want thingie
@farfa yeah it was definitely either one of the Shin Budokai games or Tenkaichi Tag Team, because even though the only other Dragon Ball game on the system also has a charging ki mechanic... I highly doubt you meant the one based on the american live action film
25:12 - 36:00 , lol I'm down with seereax's mentality here and also it's funny cause the other 2 ( obviously more so joshua.....)are all for the cookie cutter mentality, optimize, " why are you playing THAT card hurr durr" BS.
SeaReax putting Josh on blast for playing Runick is so funny. I completely agree. How exactly a card that says "Draw 3 cards every turn also btw you can activate quick play spells from the hand", was ever printed is beyond me. Meanwhile our poor lad gets the worst restrictions imaginable on every single card of support for his favorite "archtype". Meanwhile Snake Eyes and Tearlaments be like "What's a restriction? What's a cost, everything in this deck is free"
@@superskrub4209 Let us pretend(and we must pretend) that you do draw 3 "bad" cards off the draw 3. It doesn't matter, because you'll be doing it again next turn, and the next, and the next and the next turn. In most YuGiOh Games it's over in the first 2-3 turns, but due to the stun and uninteractive nature of Runick, it will be going on and on and on. I could maybe forgive Runick Cards if they didn't have the banishing side effect, but due to that extra RNG and deck out horseshit, that deck will never be anything but cancerous stun. I'd sooner play against ungabunga full combo deck that ends on 10 negates and 10 interruptions, than Runick. At least Combo deck ends the game on turn 3, and doesn't make me sit there watching them play with themselves for 10 turns while slowly widdling away my deck by banishing them just for doing what they were going to be doing anyways.
Being mad at the draw 3 feels silly to me when decks can go +3 or more off a single summon. Nevermind the fact that you can ash the draw, or easily remove the fountain now that SP is a thing. And the fact that Runick combo decks can’t afford to run many hand traps because you need to draw Runicks to keep your engine going. The banish is reasonable to be mad at though
@@Kintaku That first point is moot, because someone like me believes all cards that do that should be banned. So you're singing to the choir there. Also "Have the Ash bruh" isn't an argument. The funny thing is though, many decks can be allowed to draw plenty of cards if the restriction on them is made high enough. It turns out skipping the battle phase is not only a low cost, it's basically no cost in modern YuGiOh. You wanna see a real cost? Ursartic cards are wildly considered trash, and why is that? On paper they're big bodies that are easy to get onto board, they have a decent end boss in archtype and a card that essentially says "Draw 7". The issue is that they all say "For the rest of the turn you can only summon monsters with levels". This effectively locks you out of everything except Synchros and I guess technically Fusions? That's a real restriction. So I'm happy to let Runick Fountain exist, if it says "During the turn you activate this effect(The draw 3), you can only summon "Runick" monsters". The issue is the "engines" and generic cards that can be stuffed into so many decks. And do not get me started on the extra deck issue. That's a whole other problem that is going to require excessive bans to fix, but at least two of the main offenders(borreload savage, and Barone) are gone hopefully forever in TCG, now OCG/MD need to catch up. Long story short, if this issue didn't exist, Snake-Eyes would be a nothing burger deck. It's combos would lead to nothing, because none of it's in archtype monsters are "real" boss monsters. At best it could have Diabelstar set up one interruption of some kind, but at that point is that even a "Snake-Eyes" card? In a pre-link world, what the hell do these spam dudes on board decks like Snake Eyes even do? Tear is a separate but related issue, of not having enough restrictions on the effect. The effect on paper is fine, if it can only summon a "Tearlaments" fusion, and locks you into fusion only for the whole turn you used it. It'd be consistent and good, but not game breaking.
Im on your side really liked the lvl monsters special the horus once i was hyped fpr the new horus cards sadly they do not pick up the lvl cards exept for the "newer black horus" that technical supports horus the black flame ^^ secound place would be slyfer and i think its so sad that most of the new egypten support cards are focused around Ra .. got some hope for the retrain of sphinx like the pharaoic stuff but nope xD Not existing archetypr would be armor suit from orichalcos archetype and the Landstar dudes from Joey xD
My card that doesnt exist idea is:: A link 2 blackwing that's treated as a level 4 tuner for blackwing synchros, wise strix's for a winged beast, and I:P's for synchros.

Im on your side really liked the lvl monsters special the horus once i was hyped fpr the new horus cards sadly they do not pick up the lvl cards exept for the "newer black horus" that technical supports horus the black flame ^^
secound place would be slyfer and i think its so sad that most of the new egypten support cards are focused around Ra .. got some hope for the retrain of sphinx like the pharaoic stuff but nope xD
Not existing archetypr would be armor suit from orichalcos archetype and the Landstar dudes from Joey xD
My card that doesnt exist idea is::
A link 2 blackwing that's treated as a level 4 tuner for blackwing synchros, wise strix's for a winged beast, and I:P's for synchros.
