im having one now and wish he gets to the point QUICK
Needed that laugh 😂
Thank you! There are many points of reference here. The key is to figure out your triggers and do your best to survive them. My main trigger is change in weather. I am a human barometer. And nothing can cure my migraines but darkness and sleep. However, if I feel one coming, I can hold it at bay with extremely strong ginger tea. Still hurts, but I can function. Eventually, I will need to take a sumatriptan and sleep for at least 3 hours. Migraines are such a waste of life. My sympathies for fellow sufferers.
Ive always thought that could be a trigger
I am right there with you! Initially hormones were also a problem but we got rid of those completely, now beginning in the fall with the cold fronts and storms, I'm doomed! I've had 2 nerve blocks in the last 3 weeks.
When you say change in weather. do you mean when rain is imminent?
Gosh, I'm in the same stormy boat.
I take 400gms of b3 when I get the aura a it goes within minutes.....zero suffering....simple carry the B3 in your purse.
Try it it works. Had migraines for 55yrs zero suffering.
Move to higher elevation. I went from 6 or 7 a month with preventive meds to 37 days without a migraine in my first 6 weeks in the mountains! It's an extreme solution, but a great blessing for me.
Wish I discovered this video many years sooner. Have always lived my life with minor fatigue and migraines, and the last few months it got way worse. Went a few days without bread and a lot of the symptoms went away. Ate a piece of bread and a few hours later had a debilitating migraine. Thank you for this video and helping me get back my life
Gluten and lactose intolerance are the culprit in my migraines.
I go partially blind every time. Doesn't matter how many times I've been through it, it still scares me every time.
scary!
Facts, and be paranoid of it happening again ... sucks
Me too. I can only see half of everything and then the flashing lights start
@@trtarts4814 then the numb hand.
@@trtarts4814 I also see the same things but I have visual snow and I had used anti depressants for years which worsen the case but Vit B12 and Vit D helped alot with the blindness part and overall health. Have you tried megnesium or other such supplements ?? It might help you too. I wish you good health.
I had eye auras for 35 years. I was told caffeine was bad for your eyes. I drank heaps of coffee every day, and strong coffee. When I stopped all caffeine drinks ie coffee, coca cola etc they auras stopped immediately. I was getting two attacks per day.Now I don't get any at all. Been 5 years now and not one aura. Terrific.

Wow
Chiropractic care cured my auras.
Wow...I love coffee...
Wow. I have eye aura pain every single day. And I’ve tried every treatment on the planet . I’m gonna try giving up caffeine for a few days.
“ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS “ CAUSE OF ALL MY HEADACHES & MIGRAINES!..Stopped adding packets of “Whole Earth-Stevia Leaf & Monk Fruit” to my morning hot tea. Haven’t had one in months! I threw them all out!..(Substituting w/ a little organic Maple Syrup instead)...I had to share my experience...I’m amazed I finally figured out the cause!!! Feeling great ...had to share!
Never does anything come from these videos!!!! I'm coming in here as a HUGE sceptic.
So NO expectations 😕!!!!
Thanks for the video it helped a lot. I'm 21 and I can say I have lived in fear for years. Breaking the anxiety is hard but it can be done.
Going to a chiropractor has really helped me
(cont) BTW, I'm 44 yrs old and this has been working for me since I was 21. I trust it fully. It just takes faith and the ability to fight the nausia and urge to move when the sharp pains hit.
Thank you so much! This was incredibly helpful.
I am so happy I came across your videos I love everything you talk about so into it all brought you book. Going to share it with friends and family.
This is the most helpful video I have come across. Thank you.
Thanks for this information.. very helpful
I could not really complain with my migraine because they came "only" about 2 times a year but I am prone to headaches and once I took gluten out the headaches stopped no more migraine :D Have not had one in years now :)
Wow we that's as
Wow that's Awesome
Wonderful! All my respect!
Thank you so much for your advice!
I get migraines quite frequently, they are easily the most debilitating part of my life when I get them. I use extra strength excedrin or migraine excedrin and they work pretty well. Thanks a lot for posting this video.
I've had migraines for a long time...the only way I have found peace is by praying and Trusting without a Doubt that God is going to stop them because he is forever merciful and forever powerful...as out there as it sounds...try it just once before you comment back (and remember what I capitalized)
i also pray everyday and i believe that my help will come
So insightful! Thank you!
"Nearly" disableing??? I guess this doctor never had one... BUT appreciate his input.
Yes it's true. In other words you can't do certain things while I having migraines. Only those who have it know it
I had migraines since i was 12 and before that headaches...i had migraines almost every day untill i was 18.then i had almost 3 times a week.Sometimes they could last for more than 24 hours.I had fainted stayed in bed and couldn t speak many times in my life.It was A miracle to finish school. My neurologist said to keep a diary in order to be able to find what the triggers are...and there were a lot.Now i have only 1 or 2 times a month and the pain is less.INTERMITTENT FASTING works for me in conbination with less carb intake. After many years with personal experiments i found the life i never had.Staying with low insuline levels does the trick.Of course i am avoiding some stuff like red wine or orange juice but small things.Try it ...it might work for you too.
Plus you stay thin....
What kind of foodswere you eating when you were younger that may have caused so many migraines?
@@carlbernngl classic mediteranian food....i am from Greece so you understand😉.My diet was very good and my weight was always in the normal range, but it turned out it wasn' t for me.Small changes in food and I.F. made a big difference..
@@konstantinanino3679 yes Greek food is health , I have Greek friends. But we’re you also eating a good amount of Greek deserts like baklava? You mentioned keeping insulin low so that’s why I’m asking , thanks

Great topic. This is such a OLD/ long time video. Can you Dr Hyman update this please🙏🏻? It is 2021 now. (made in 2007). You’re helping A LOT with those infos. Thank you very much.
Thank you dr.God bless
Thank you doctor . what you said really made sense. to me a lot . A doctor on UA-cam is more helpful then our doctors
+Anisa abdi he is sure more helpful than my two drug dealers, they don't even try to understand where the problem come from, they just say try this see if it can help!!!! that's their answer for everything.
Asma abdi maybe coz of where u live in the world no offence
Thank you..I suffer allot like 5 outta seven days.. very informative
@@TrainTransportShortsOfficial your so stupid and judgemental. Just cause she is African. Your the dumbest mom ever, "queen mom"
I need you to move to Chicago and treat my migraines. Migraines are an incurable neurological disease, but you seem to be extremely knowledgable in this field.
Thank you for producing this video. I have had migraines since I was about 12 years old. Everything you said rings true. It is great to hear someone talk about the underlying causes versus trying to put a band aid on it. Over the years I have found that mine can be triggered by different things, usually by getting out of balance, whether it is stress, blood sugar, hormones, diet, etc. This is the first time I have heard of magnesium helping. Going to try it. Thank you again!
I'm not calling Mark Hyman an idiot here, but I've been to one idiot neurologist after another for the better part of 20 years... I went to headache clinics etc., read books, the whole 9 yards... the idiot doctors were only interested in giving me drugs; UNINTERESTED in what I ate, what supplements I took etc. Gave me neurontin, shot me up with lidocaine, botox, antidepressants, the works.
Now, I never had high blood pressure, but I eventually started to get atrial fluttering so I thought, what the hell; even though I LOVE SALT I thought, why not cut it out? Salt peanuts, salted almonds, you name it. Didn't really affect the arrhythmia... but the migraines went from 5-6 a month to 2 a month. Then I started supplementing with potassium and eating a banana a day: 1 a month. So there it is. I went back to the books I have, to check: NOT ONE mentioned salt!
Freaking morons; waste of money and precious time seeing these mooks.
In retrospect, here's a clue: if you LOVE to eat or drink or take anything and you suffer from migraines (or any dis-ease or pain), look carefully at what you love as possibly the cause of your pain. It's as they say: LOVE HURTS.
He makes it sound SOOOOOOOOOOO simple. IT IS NOT.
I followed his protocol and that of many other doctors non worked
Every person can be experiencing different factors … magnesium it is good , for sure sometimes I take water a little bit of salt and few drops of lemon , it’s works for me .
By far one of the best videos...very informative..makes sense
Have tried all the things you describe... I challenge you to cure my migraines!
Kate Rose, I agree doesn’t work at all. I see a neurologist that doesn’t work either. It sucks! Seems doctors don’t believe me. Quality of life is horrible.
Yup me too.
Kate Rose marijuana is the only thing that works for my wife
Headaches/migraines have been getting worse over the years... Esp last few months.
Just started beta blockers. Am hoping. Just wish cannabis oil was legal...am sure it would work
I’ve tried everything and the kitchen sink for 17 years. Heard every hoaky thing out there. Tried vitamins oils surgery eastern/western meds triggers dietitian food eliminations it’s such a complicated disease that doesn’t have straight answers. Some happen bc of things like weather which you can’t control or even triggers like smells which if you ever go out in public could strike you at any time. He’s on the right track but each person is so different I’ve touched on everything he’s mentioned and even though I pay strict attention to every area he’s talking about I still suffer horribly.
Excellent, comprehensive presentation. I'll add that a common cause of mitochondrial function is sub-optimal thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone underpins mitochondrial number and function. We'll see this especially in catamenial(PMS) related headaches. Prevention requires progesterone and thyroid replacement, even if TSH is "normal".
I think you meant dysfunction. A common reason for this are genetic disorders of mitochondrial DNA
I APPRECIATE YOU!!! GOD BLESS YOU!!!
YOU ARE WONDERFUL!!!
What I like the most in this video is that this doctor actually tells you what to do in the end. And the best thing is that if you do what he says it works! Magnesium makes the difference, green vegie juice with flaxseed for dha/epa 2 times per day. Quit coffee and replace it with Chinese tea (schizandra, Goji berries tea ) , eliminate sugars and heavy foods, gluten/dairy/grain/ foods and for sure you will see big improvement overall. Best wishes for long term health .
Which magnesium...citrate..glycinate ..mela ?...oxy..I just dont get all those names ( sorry).Staying in bed for four days now due to heavy migraine 😪
I feel ya pain
Good idea!
@pacum thank you for the advice. it helped quite a bit.
I have been hospitalized 4 times for migraines and get them at least 4 days a week you have helped a great deal thank you so much!
That’s terrible. How are you 11 years on?
Boy, I wish neurologists and PCs would do this! It's simple, cheap and could actually help people! But just try to talk to them about this and they'll most likely roll their eyes at you, unfortunately.
Makes sence what you are saying, i get migraines when i'm stressed and don't get enough sleep for a few days. Also sometimes when doing cardio for a long periode and i dont eat enough carbs. I have a medicine for it from the doctor but they either dont work or the side effects are that i feel shattered for a few days. The migraines i get are mostly, start with a sort of double vision and i loose the ability to speak or read and then after that of course the headaches. The loss of speach and reading really freaks me out every time.
Excellent!
I had found a bunch of triggers but they seem to only be triggers because my body was so deficient in magnesium. I had tried magnesium but not enough strength. My head is not only pain free, it's symptom free! Thank you!
How much magnesium? Please if you don't mind I suffer from tention headache
How did you find that out and how long did you take magnesium??
Omg are you serious my magnesium is 1.8 and um having headaches outta this world
true, thank you.
I did not struggle with migraines but depression, anxiety and sleep deprivation. Been taking magnesium supplements and the rest is history!!!Thank you Dr Hyman for all your insights!!!
MOGREENS what form of magnesium did you take?
Can you please be my Doctor?
I agree. So what should i do?
How can i see you doctor?

Do you take any appointments? I think you are a brilliant Doctor. Genius.

Wow! I sure hope my Eye Auras go away for good. Instead of drinking diet coke w/Aspartame, I opt for the regular coke or Sprite. Dyes are not good, so stay away from colored sodas. I take Coq10, BVitamins(be sure to get enough thiamin, and Magnesium, daily. I use to wait until the EYE Aura came on me to take action, but, I have found that preventing the problem before it begins, is so much better.
Also, get stressed out-of-your life. I had been having the Auras for about 19 years, and was told they are harmless. Then, last year, I had an Aura come on me, making me extremely weak, tingling sensations, numbness, and a sense of losing control. My Auras usually last for about 20 minutes w/ No migraine headache. I thought I was going to die. By the time I reached the ER, the symptoms began to subside. After this scary occcurence, I knew it was time to take action. I have been seeing a Chiropractor for about a year, now. I have had about5 Eye Auras since last August. I went as-long-as 5 months after my mini-stroke scare. I know what triggered the next one. I drank a COKE with aspartame and took a Zirtec that my Nurse caregiver prescribed. That combination was sporadic. I had another Aura Episode. Dairy, high amounts of sugar, grains, corn, and some Fish supplements will trigger mine, too. I am scheduled to see the Neurologist in November, but, I am not too keen on the Botox. Until then, I will be sure to hydrate with Sea Salt water, and Electrolytes. If you have this condition, be sure to Hydrate. I hope one day there will be a cure for all forms of Migraine.😮 Take care everyone!
Mark Hyman, MD, I have done B2, Magnesium, coenzyme, and all the tests are by naturopath that cost $$$ and still eating healthy by barely eating it still does not work. You dont mention the amount of 'high dosage' of vitamins you are talking about. The chronic headache pressure is 24/7 and never alleviates not to mention torqued neck i have been working on with scalene and SCM muscles issues that is left over and severe lumbar osteoarthritis. It is insane that people like me are still alive and not able to light to get out of our blackness. People like me need more help and closer monitoring for we are barely eating and live alone and just to type this takes energy.
I spend my time alone and missing out. Suddenly three years ago, artificial light became intolerable. Natural light is fine unless I’m already in the migraine but I can’t go shopping or anything because everything will start spinning and I get a migraine I can’t work. My neurologist takes 8 months to get into. I’ve lost so much weight. I’m sorry you go through this as well. It’s lonely . Mine are chronic and daily.
@@hma7911 try special lenses for light sensitivity made by Axonoptics... Works for some people. I bought the outdoor lenses for my work that has obnoxiously bright lights. Hope you find something that works for you.
gsdlover mustanggurl thank you, i actually tried to order them and they are out right now. Plus they are 500$ but that’s worth it totally . Just hard when I’m unable to even work due to migraines. It’s like a catch 22.. paying for insurance, deductibles. I. Quit seeing des 5 months ago cause I was going nowhere. I feel like giving up . I’m 42 and my daughter just had a baby. I have 2 newly adoptive children and my older bio daughter gave me my first grandbaby. I can’t enjoy any of this! I swear if I get better, I’ll never take my health for granted.
@@hma7911 don't give up, gotta see what the mystery is... Have you tried de-stressing, with something that works for you as I would imagine it's very stressing on you... Do you eat sweeteners or soda, I'd say try to eat whole foods & keep a plain strict diet... Research on internet... Do you take vit d3? Maybe try yoga or breathing techniques... Hard to say, I don't know what you've tried... Maybe see what others have said worked for them. When you see Drs, your blood work comes back all good? Is look at diet (hope you can gain, protein shakes or Boost...) & Or environmental factors. I have a million ideas...
gsdlover mustanggurl yes I tried all of the above and I don’t eat sweets. They think it may be a compressed occipital nerve, occipital neuralgia or trigeminal neuralgia
Thanks for this information. It was very helpful. What area are you located in, I would like to get a consultation if possible. I am based in near Washington, DC. If you are not in the area, do you have any advice on how I find a doctor that looks at migraines from your perspective? Do I need to go to a holistic doctor?
Hi Mark, thankyou for this. Had migraines for 32 years and wish you could treat me for mine. I would do anything to relieve them…
I wish you were my doctor!
They are defiantly life changing I been suffering with then since age 5 I go bed with one wake up with one doctors change my tablets quite few time my nourologist says there nothing he can do I sleep lot I miss work coz this I don’t eat dairy or have caffeine not sure what to do next mine starts back of neck and gradually works to front head my heart goes out to all migraine sufferers
I have eliminated at least a dozen food triggers, was taking nortriptyline which I hated and now I eat only meat, veg, eggs, butter and mayonnaise. I avoid nuts, cheese, wheat, chocolate, corn, bananas, citrus, msg, artificial sweeteners, soy, onions, anything pickled or fermented, coffee, etc. I was better for almost two weeks but now my daily, chronic headaches are back. I might give up eggs but I'm skeptical that it will help. I'm also cutting caffeine down which helps but if I have just a second cup of tea because I can't frickin cope when I'm exhausted, the headache comes back. I'm persistent though and I really hope to at last get to where I don't have pain every single day of my life. Cannabis doesn't help me either. I'm not having as intense migraines like I used to though and I now longer have vomiting and lose the whole day because I have to stay in bed, so there is progress. I had a very severe concussion years ago which I suspect may play a part. Plus, this all started for me when I turned about 45....hormones may be the largest issue in my case. I tried birth control pills and got scary heart palpitations so I quit. I tried bio identical progesterone and estrogen but they've done nothing for me.
13 years later and nothing as changed
I'm a sufferer of migranes and they are very debilitating; especially when I experience them at work. Sometimes it will be 6 months since I've had one, sometimes I'll have two in the space of three days; it's completely random. Cutting out caffiene has slowed it down and reduced the amount of auras I experience when attacks occurs; but it's not a nice thing. I remember when I got a migrane for the first time when I was 14; it was exteremlely frightening :(
What about weather-related? Any information is appreciated! Desperate!
Such excellent information. Thank You! I have found that magnesium & addressing food allergies has completely cured my migraines. When I stopped taking magnesium and eating whole foods, they came back in full force.
@pacum ur so right!!!!
You really know what you are doing I am person who read a lot on this subject. My mine is hormonal and food sensitivity related. How can I reach you to get help bc now I am on book tour and I am so worried about eating out that I am ready to cook food and freeze for the trip!
I am aware of MSG and Aspartame,.There is another ingredient in food additives called BHT. Its in processed foods, mainly breakfast cereals and instant grits are included as well
thats what a call a great doctor that goes with a humane human
I’m already taking magnesium and trying to eat mainly vegetables and things that are brain healthy and I’ve been getting more light exercise and avoiding triggers like caffeine and I still feel awful. The magnesium upsets my stomach but so do most foods so the problem may be gut related so the next step is to get a food sensitivity and allergy test. I have hormonal imbalance as well and no idea how to fix it because the doctors never told me any information about it they just mentioned birth control but a real reproductive wealth doctor told me to never take birth control because of my complex migraine disease because it could cause a stroke. I’ve had so many tests trying to figure out what the root of the multitude of symptoms could be and one doctor said it is difficult because it could be anything, anxiety could be causing symptoms, or something could be causing the anxiety. I have to go to a chiropractor regularly for a pinched nerve in my neck that causes the most painful migraines.. We just don’t know because there’s such a wide range of possibilities and I don’t know what to do.
I have seen incredible results with acupuncture and Chinese herbs.
I am considering acupuncture!

Mag oxide is the worst and the cheapest form of magn. It only works for constipation.
Just use citrate if you tend to be constipated or glycinate if you loose stools ( it also calms the brain)

Neck exercises help me, if that fails sumatriptans are my saviour, but rebound headaches can occur.
I eat well and I’m fit and healthy I can’t imagine being deficient in anything.
Sounds like mind is magnesium. My blood count is always high when tested too is that another sign
i am crippled with headaches>they start at the back of my neck>left side then move all over the left side>i cannot think when I have one>part of the pain from injury.
Make sure you are using the proper pillow when sleeping. I've been focusing on this recently and although it's not the "cure all" for headaches for me it has helped greatly reduce the neck pain that turned into headaches. Previously I was using 2 pillows which would put constant strain on my neck all night. Try to keep your neck and spine as straight as possible. Sure it's common knowledge to some, but I figure it never hurts to pass along.
xhardwarex Just an update 4 months later. I used 1 immitrex 100mg in the past month which is a miracle for me. The changes I've made most recently is I only sleep with one pillow which is about 4 inches thick, it's memory foam. I'm no longer taking 20mg Celexa and didn't replace it with any similar medication and I also take fewerfew every few days. I really should take the feverfew daily, but I simply forget. I do take 1 excedrin almost daily so I'm not completely cured. Not stuck in bed multiple times a week though which is awesome. Feels like I almost have my life back.
You might have cervicogenic headache.

Yes propranolol has worked for me really well but I have gone off it because of side effects. I have lost so many days to migraines and most people just dont get it.

I’ve taken beta blockers but caused asthma Symptoms, I felt like an old woman getting breathless even after very little exertion, it was embarrassing.
I really need something about the comorbidity of Multiple Sclerosis and Chronic migraine. What could possibly help? I've had allergen testing and have eliminated all gluten, processed foods and dairy and meat. I take high doses of magnesium along with others with no relief. Ugh I am ready to give up.
I'd like to know how to blink less like Dr Hyman.
WOW!!!
I changed my diet due to Autoimmune..GONE..also letting go of past crap and any negativity..It is amazing how the things we face every day can cause such horrible things and Meds..are supposed to be temporary..not permanent..
For me its all meat, greens and nuts and its such a powerful and painful headache, feel it in my temporal lobe. Unfortunately vegetarianism and veganism(excluding nuts and greens, but tried with greens as well same problem) both lead to me getting extremely bad crepitus. I've tried EVERY version of vegetarianism and although milk helped alleviate the back pain that was happening(I also didnt consume gluten so couldn't be that) It simply doesn't work with my body, I just get bone and specifically JOINT problems so how do I go about stopping the headaches? Is there something specific to these foods that cause these problems?
I have tried all of these and the only thing that has helped me is clean keto. I am suffering a terrible migraine at the moment because I had some non-keto food over the holidays. I haven't taken medication for migraines in 4 years, I don't even have any. I never want to take any of those medications again. The side effects are terrible. I was prescribed so many medications in my teens and 20s, now in my 30s I am on zero medications.
