  • The desire to Reduce Migraine Headaches by 95% is understandable. Over 4 million in the U.S. suffer from Chronic Migraines and take pills to prevent them. Here are 4 easy steps you can take to reduce migraine severity and frequency, and in some cases, prevent migraine headaches altogether.
Much research has been done on migraine headaches and their link to food, but it doesn't get talked about much. It seems most migraine societies would rather talk about new and expensive migraine medications...

I've been trying carnivore for less than a month. I've lost so many symptoms I forgot I hadn't had headache. I ate "regular" for a week staying with my sister and all kinds of pain came back. Still there. But went back to carnivore. Within less than a week of going back to carnivore I'm down 12 pounds of inflammation weight. I'm amazed. I don't know if it works forever, but wow I feel better. I did have an orange just a little while ago. Made me take a nap. Vitamin c for the pollen. And I still do a little whole milk. I'm just better.

My daughter is a migraineur for 25 years. A couple years ago she came across the book “Fighting the Migraine Epidemic” by Angela Stanton. Stanton’s protocol has a person remove all sugars and grains from the diet and eat meats and low carb vegetables. She also boosts the electrolytes by ingesting more salt and getting more calcium, magnesium and potassium through the foods eaten. I don’t remember a focus on fats at all. It sounds pretty darned keto, right? My daughter aborted her first migraine, which started at about 2am, by downing 1/8t salt with a cup of water, repeating again at 3am, 4am and when she got up at 5am. Her breakfast was a well-salted hamburger patty, salted avocado and a slice of cheese (these provided all 4 electrolytes). Her migraine which would normally have lasted for 3-4 days, was aborted. It was life changing for my daughter. She didn’t just stop taking her migraine intervention meds - she stopped having the migraines and as a result, no longer needed to take the meds. During the Covid craziness, my daughter’s diet went to hell in a hand basket and she landed in the ER after 4 days of a migraine. “Inspired” to clean up her diet again, she is again virtually headache free.

@@TheImageConsultant I don’t know what type of cheese but the cheese provided calcium that she needed. She was doing a protocol specifically for migraines. She has no dairy sensitivities. The point is, by eliminating certain foods she ‘cured’ her migraines. But if she slips back into old eating habits they can and will come back. She didn’t need to rely on pills - she learned she can get her electrolytes from food.

I'm a 65 year old woman and stating at age 17, I began to suffer from migraines. Each week of my life since then, I spent 4-6 days (EACH week) with migraines and have been on countless medications for them. Ten months ago I decided to dedicate myself to eating clean keto along with intermittent fasting. That was the last day I suffered from migraines. Yes, ALL migraines ceased that day. I'm free of them completely now...talk about getting my life back...no meds of any kind now and as an extra bonus, I lost the extra weight I'd been carrying around. What a blessing for me. I was on strict Keto for 10 years when Covid hit and I had to rely on food from a Food Bank. I knew it was bad, but what was I going to do. Premade meals and such. Not only did I begin to have stomach pains but for the first time in my life, really bad migraines. I never understood the pain people were having. I knew it was dietary, so sought out other ways to achieve my dietary needs. As soon as I stopped eating that crap, the migraines went away. I suspect that the foods that you were getting from the food bank were cooked with MSG (monosodium glutamate). It is used for flavor enhancement in foods. When I eat a prepared meal out and I get a miserable feeling all over my body for hours on end, including a bad headache, I know that they used MSG in their cooking. Watch especially if you eat a lot of prepackaged deli meats, including sausage, to look at the ingredients to see if it contains MSG. Lots of canned goods contain MSG too, even Campbell's soup. WTH is Campbells using MSG in their soups for? Their soups are supposed to be considered safe and considered like mama's home cooking. I discovered they were using it when I purchased a can of vegetable soup one day and got the same terrible feeling I get when something contains it. Check your labels. Usually when a canned food or any food item that does NOT contain MSG, they proudly show it front and center on the item.

I have gone from 1 or 2 per month to months without migraines by cutting back my caffeine consumption to once per day instead of 2 or 3 times per day. Also drinking a lot more water. This morning though I almost got an aura, it was just this spot that usually turns into aura and now idk wtf it's doing, but the interesting thing is I haven't had one for months, and I stopped eating peanut butter, and yesterday I ate a bunch of peanut butter and this morning almost got an aura (it'll probably be back later today...I can never escape them once they start). So there may be something to the peanut oil part. Oh I just looked at the peanut butter container it says "roasted peanuts" and "palm oil". So yea prolly the palm oil.

When one isn't metabolically deranged, some would argue low levels of proper carbs is beneficial to health.
At the very least, while they're definitely not essential, carbs from whole foods can be part of a healthy diet in the proper context. This is seen by the diets of many indigenous people.
Anyway, good luck on your health journey. Keep that PUFA, particularly Linoleic acid, as low as you can!
It hides everywhere. Even in monogastric animals, like pork, chicken, and fish, when fed a high PUFA diet.

After finding a link between the epileptic brain, and the migraine brain (they are quite similar); I decided to try keto, with a focus on fat, moderate protein and 20 total carbs or less. Absolutely no grains, sugars or industrial oils! I also had to stop all headache medications cold turkey. All of these meds will put the migraineur in a rebound situation very quickly.
I could not believe the change in my migraines, they became less frequent and less severe. Keto brought my life back to me! I do eat mostly animal products with a little veg and berries thrown in. I can really say, that I have not had a migraine since, just a slight one here and there, that goes away in an hour or two, on its own.

Then after retirement the flashing lights came back. I went on the keto diet because I became T2D 20 years ago the keto diet has reduced the frequency and the severity of the flashing lights and no headaches since. So diet does have an effect. I’m am now 44 years of age. All the pain, suffering, time off school and work and money spent on drugs. No one ever told me all these years that something so simple could help so much. I still get them but not as strong or frequent. I guess the reason I asked about the keto stix is I thought I was hard core keto, I was drinking coffee with 2% creamer in the morning and around 1pm, no food until 4pm and that was mostly some type of meat and some brazil nuts or macadamias. I realized it was the coffee creamer that was throwing me out of ketosis. Once I went to full or heavy fat creamer I got in. I think being in ketosis is harder than the average person thinks. I am pretty confident you are going to start feeling better soon and fix one issue at a time and by this time next year feel 100% better. Are you able to do any exercise? I learned so much about the foods, environment and stressors that can affect a migraine. I am Extremely Aware now and have been for Most of my adult life. For the last month I've tried avoiding industrial seed oils and IT WORKS!!! I'd mostly suffered from when I was 9 to 25, starting with "random" stomach upset which eventually became nauseating migraines, until I realized wheat was really messing me up (1998/99, the year I worked in a bakery at 17, was an absolute doozy). Since cutting a lot of wheat and adding a ton of beef I've had far fewer headaches and migraines but they didn't completely go away, which I attributed to my "cheating", though it wasn't consistent so the cause was still kind of mysterious. Now, at 40, I can see that industrial seed oils are the last piece of the puzzle. Dr Berry's recommendations are absolutely correct. I feel so much better!!! THANK YOU 🤗

@@user-hn9qg5qm3o Hi J, as far as I can tell you ,just start. It helps to watch Dr. Berry's 101 Keto Videos or how to start keto. It is not that hard , honestly. I loved bread and buns and pizza and couldn't imagine not eating them. I watched the video and started the next morning by eating eggs and bacon and cheese. Also I had a little more veggies in tue beginning. After 3 days, the headaches were gone and I had lots of energy. Also I turned to OMAD after a couple of days, simply because I wasn't hungry enough for more meals. After a week all craving for sugar was gone. Just try to stick to real food ( meat, eggs, some cheese, a little veg) and go from there. Also, try not to cheat because for me it is a trap to fall back into old habits ( also try to stay away from the sweeteners and keto friendly desserts - at least in the beginning). I watched a lot of their Monday night lives and read many comments from others that supported me. I lost about 32kg and I did it even though none of my family members joined in or understood. Also I fell of the waggon due to lots of stress but now I'm back on track. The first couple of days are the hardest. After that it gets a lot easier. You can still eat your chicken ( not breaded) and your salad ( with non sugary selfmade sauce). Just count the carbs in the veggies. Good luck to you, you can do it👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Reminder that you're not a failure and it's not you "not-trying-hard-enough" if this doesn't work. I tried a very strict keto for long time and it didn't work. What kinda seems to help a bit at least is that they discovered my insuline resistance, so insuline medication paired with diabetic diet is making them a bit more bearable (as well as iron infusions) since hypoglycemia is hell for headaches and energy. Remember, be open and consistent, but don't blame yourself and don't let health providers blame you for THEIR treatment plan not working

How many people continue to deny diet as a factor in their health? I know many people who have migraines who head straight for drug treatments that end up not working rather than adjust their diets. Keep in mind anything that is detoxing your blood and eliminating bad acids is going to help everything in your health. Including cancers, as well as overall organ health. It's not just about headaches. And as the doctor pointed out, the national health institutes still operate on the same advice they have given for decades. Even the things that have since been proven dangerous to health are often given the thumbs up. Good chat. Well informed. Thank you.

I’ve suffered from bad head since I was 4yrs of age (my bad headaches were later diagnosed as migraines) and cluster/migraines since I was 13. In my mid-late 20’s (in late 1980’s-early 1990’s) it was discovered that my migraines were due to diet sodas, sugar substitutes that were available at the time (equal and sweet n low) and any foods with MSG; I immediately stopped using anything that I noted above and it helped but didn’t end them. Unfortunately, my migraines and migraine/cluster attacks continued and I hoped that my menopause(I had early menopause) ended (my menopause ended when I was in my last 30’s)would stop my migraines and migraine/cluster; but it hadn’t. But I began watching your channel (about 3-4yrs ago) and learned a lot. So, the combination of your channel and Botox (treatment of my migraines and migraine/cluster) I my attacks have reduced and I’m thrilled. Thank you for ALL YOUR HELP!!

I used to have bad migraines when I was a kid. I resisted taking any kind of pain killer for them. Then I read something about taking pain killer at the onset of a migraine would usually deter it from becoming full blown. It worked, and as I got older I haven't even had to deal with migraines at all. Our bodies are weird sometimes. But I hope this message about food curing migraines helps people. There was an article in the New Yorker a few years ago about migraines and the amount of suffering some people go through is truly horrendous.

No more meds required. No more light sensitivity. I can drive again. I can do everything i did before I got sick. My confidence has returned. My fatigue and brain fog is gone. My husband no longer has to worry about me or do things for me. He had his life back. I have now been carnivore for almost 5 months. I feel and look amazing. I am 58 yrs old. Thankyou to all doctors and any body posting this information for free. I had excepted my life and was living the best I could. I do avoid grains & dairy as a whole when I start feeling like a migraine could come on, and it helps. But, what helps even more for me is fruit smoothies with spinach or kale. I couldn’t tell you why… maybe it’s the magnesium? I think it’s related to hydration and the vitamins and minerals in the smoothie somehow helps relax muscles/ inhibits an excitatory response. When I eat more fruits and veggies on a regular basis, I don’t get migraines.

I definitely get less headaches (nearly none) in the last 6 months on keto. But, my sleep has dramatically improved too, and I think this is the main cause. On a "headachey" day, if I have too much 100% chocolate + dairy I can induce a headache, so I watch out for that. Mostly though, headaches are linked to sleep for me.

I've had migraines for more than 20 years and have recently found the info about oils to be highly accurate. In particular, I have pretty quick reactions to ice cream that contains oil vs. ice cream that doesn't, as well as donuts and dessert breads. I first remember noticing this after reading about how oils increase inflammation, and since I know migraine meds work by decreasing inflammation, I thought there could be a connection. It boggles the mind, though, that there's very little info online about the connection between oils and migraines. Even my neurologist who prescribes my migraines meds didn't know about that connection.

You said to substitute vegetable oils with tallow ghee bacon fat or butter but those need to be grass fed, grass fed has a omega 6 to 3 ration of 2 to 1 vs soy and grain fed at 6 to 1 which is still lower than the average human ration which is like 16 to 1 due to over consumption of seed oils. So it'll still help cooking in things like ghee but it's even healthier to do so from grass fed

I was stuck in a migraine cycle for over 2 years. I could barely get out of bed. My neurologist put me on medications that made me feel even worse and didn't help my migraine at all, and eventually was put on botox treatments. I started to lose vision in my left eye, developed neck issues which caused crevi headaches, and ultimately the botox stopped helping. I was desperate to find a solution and started researching. I came across a protocol that is a strict keto diet with increased salt intake. The keto helped but I needed more healing and was recommended to try a carnivore diet, which freaking worked! After a few months of eating carnivore, cutting out all those graines, plant oils, dairy substitutes, sugar, and low-fat....I have drastically reduced my migraines to 1 or 2 every month or so. And when I do get one, I'm not down for a week or more. The pain is less intense and the other symptoms like the hangover doesn't last as long.
I'm actually having a migraine episode right now, but it's due to the full moon, which has an impact on migraineurs if they are sensitive to barometric pressure changes.
If you have migraines, change the way you eat! Our brains require a much different diet than the SAD (standard American diet) and we thrive on a high fat, low carb, moderate protein diet.

I'm a 72-year-old male who began getting severe, frequent, long-lasting migraines several months after my thirtieth birthday. I had no idea what they were at the time, and due to that didn't receive effective treatment until 18 years later. I was then put on daily doses of propranolol as a preventative, and Zomig as needed as a breakthrough ender. Zomig proved near miraculous in its ability to terminate an attack in short time. Propranolol has very good at preventing attacks caused by non-food triggers. With food triggered migraines, it helps but is not perfect.
Due to diet modifications over the years, frequency was reduced to no more than 5-8 attacks per year. Which brings us up to 2023. This year, I've made several further diet adjustments, eliminating grains, all-but-eliminating artificial sugars, in general attempting to eat a whole-food centric diet. (I am somewhat handicapped in this due to a rather limited food budget, but do what I can.) Additionally, at the beginning of the year I was asked to reduce my propranolol dosage further than I had already done of my own volition. This worried me. Needlessly, as it turned out. I had absolutely no idea that this year's dietary changes would affect migraines. Yet that seems to have happened. I see my neurologist a week from tomorrow. This will be the first time in over two decades when I will be able to report that, during a six-month observation period, I had not a single attack!

Hormonal or other changes later in life might bring about an end to migraines, but I wouldn't hold my breath. BTW, since my initial post, made further diet modifications, further reduced preventative medication doses, and have not had a single attack.
