Love your videos. You give cool places to go with a nice little history lesson too.
Your hat is everything!!!
Great video! Most chinatown tour videos on yt are poorly made, this was straight to the point and professional! In my opinion the best soup dumplings in nyc are in Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao in the Queens chinatown which is now the biggest chinatown in nyc followed by Sunset Park.
Soooo much history and good food in Chinatown 🥰✨!! Can’t wait for y’all to visit 🙏🏻. Thanks so much for letting me join Sarah 🙋🏻♀️
Can we hotpot again soon...?
Thanks for joining me and yes, let's hot pot!
Just wanted to make one correction: the local dialect is still Cantonese and the signs are in Chinese (since the dialects only refer to the spoken language)
Thank you. She said that the locals are from Hong Kong and environs, and then said the “signs are in Mandarin, the local dialect.” It confused me on two levels.
@@StamfordBridge signs are in Chinese lol. Dialect is mostly Cantonese but also fujinese if you're around Chatham square
@@StamfordBridge Goes to show that one can travel, have a YT travel channel yet be in the dark about works cultures and languages.
that was a lotus root. slice it and it has a really cool cross-section design. fry the slices like french fries... yummy!
weird veggie, i seen it in a lot of recipes, but never in natural state
i've never liked lotus root personally.
Sarah thank you for introducing TJ and the history of Chinatown. Even this video is 3 years ago, it's very helpful.
That’s a lotus root. Peel it and slice it in rounds( thin). We call them wagon wheels. Stir fry them in sesame oil and then add a few Tbl spoons soy sauce & a sprinkle of sugar. Then sprinkle with sesame seeds. That’s how I ate them in Japan. I love the crunchy texture.
Hot pot check. Dim sum check. Bubble tea check. American friendly Unique deserts check. Buddha. Hanging meat check. Shopping check with good insight. I often stay in china town and these are the things to do. Excellent advice. Parks... drinks? Ok Sarah knows.
You have an amazing way of communicating to your audience!
Feeling this outfit 🤩
I LOVE this series and I'm always so excited for new episodes and neighborhoods!
Great video, full of info on what to do, where to eat and more. Thank Sarah and Luis for taking the time to make these videos. I have been living in NY for years. Thanks to you, I will check out many places that I didn't know about. The best massage I ever had was in chinatown for $40 an hour, it was better than any 5 stars hotel spa. The reflexology was as good. Keep up the excellent work.
I'm literally planning my entretire trip to NCY thanks to you ♥️
Same. Going in January. Taking my daughter and granddaughter and I cannot wait!!! Sarah really is a gift. ❤❤❤
Can I just pause the video and tell you I LOVE your excited voice 😍 I have been watching all your nyc neighborhoods videos and I loved them
I will be in nyc for my birthday this November only 4 days but Chinatown is on my list of things to do!!! I’m so excited thank you for this video!!!
love the history you include in your videos!!
Great video Sarah..........just shared it on my facebook to show my family for when we come to NYC in april.
Girl I went to Wah Fung...the duck was on point.
Love your videos. They give cool places too go with a little history lesson while doing it.
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching!
Thank you! That was fantastic. We’re here in NY, Manhattan and this is very helpful. Loving your channel
"Loved your video, the history and food of Chinatown

I had no desire to go to New York until I seen this.
Love Chinatown! Great video!
Wow ! Your video makes me really look forward to a day or night in Chinatown. Great food and some quick 👕 shopping. Thanks for the excellent details. See Ya !
Very nice itinerary for Chinatown! Have a wonderful day beautiful lady😘😘😘 xox
It seems really interesting. And the food looks delicious!

I love Chinatown!!! I always stay there when I visit!😁
Love that hat!
I love your videos Sarah! 🇺🇸✨🌈 Xx
That is lotus roots
So much history and good food in chinatown
Great video! Love the hat...reminds me of Prince 💜
Great vid, thanks so much!
Once got that sesame rice ball in flushing and it so wasn’t how I thought it would be. From what I could recall it looks like something that would be paired nice with tea
Cannot wait
Great video tour!
Great video, loved the comprehensive tour of my old neighborhood! Just only one hangup...
2:44 the street signs are written in traditional Chinese script, not Mandarin. You can read and dicate those same characters in Mandarin, Cantonese and other dialects in their unique pronunciations, and while each dialect has its own unique words/phrases/syntax, the characters you see in the video are not exclusive to any particular variety of Chinese. Hope this helps!
I have a question, let's say the sign is for a shoe store. Wouldn't the characters be different depending on the dialect? So is it possible that that the characters are corresponding to the Mandarin dialect or does it just depend on the dialect of the business owner, etc.
@@d.g.4499 All Chinese dialects utilize the same pool of Chinese characters, but some characters are only used by certain dialects. While dialects may be transcribed into written Chinese, in modern age there is only one form of official written Chinese (written vernacular Chinese). In sum: Some dialects/spoken Chinese (e.g. Cantonese) use particular Chinese characters if they were to be transcribed into writing. But written Cantonese is not considered official written Chinese - even in movies the captions would be written vernacular Chinese. Mandarin is considered to be the official spoken Chinese and happens to be able to be rendered with written Chinese, but written Chinese does not derive from Mandarin. The spoken Chinese back in, for example, Ming Dynasty used the same form of written Chinese, but sounded very differently than Mandarin.
I love @cupoftj energy 👍🏾👍🏾
My favorite (5:07) Woo Hop, 17 Mott St. At least once a month for 30 years. Then over to Chinatown ice cream factory for desert. Great video. I’ll have to try that Dayu hot pot place.
Wo Hop, downstairs!
Looks nice i hope to visit NYC one day.TFS Sarah.❤💜💙💚💛
It was a good choice to get the SPICEY hot pot!!
That ‘Wah Fung Fast Food’ is indeed amazing! Best meal I’ve had in NYC!
Thank you for the info ...... awesome....
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Could you please do a video on the Lower East Side? And Park Slope in Brooklyn. Thanks.
I think Chinatown is my next exploration. I just don't know how many days to fast prior because I want to eat it all!
Too cool DAYU!
Love her hat.
Great video.
Thank you Sarah
Tour with @cupoftj! You two are adorable 😍
Excellent video
good vid! FYI chinatowns often have cheap buses to other chinatown spots in the city..
luv NY. luv you..respect fr CN
great vid
Tell me why I thought you said turn up cakes???? I was like yassss Chinatown!!!
my perfect day in chinatown, i walked through it to get to walk the bridge
Double size bbq meats rice box!
please make a video about Bronx (including Riverdale) and Harlem
FYI! did you ever got a chance to order the OG egg rolls? I heard its super good!
Very nice. I've always been curious about Hell's Kitchen. Potential idea for a future video?
You should do one on Tribeca.
I live in CHINATOWN NYC...Best Laid Back and Good Food
Saw you sitting on that bench on Mosco st. 😊
Lucky you! 😎
Do you have to tip at a takeaway thanks in advance for any help
Cool~!
Love this but is there anything else to do apart from eating and buy stuff ?
I always get the best massage and beauty treatment in Chinatown. There are spots that charge $30 for 50min massage and they were amazing. Plus there is the tenement museum, a museum that shows immigrate history of NYC.
like your biker-style outfit.
Those “mash potato” are actually Radish rice cake. Lotus seeds pastry inside the sesame ball and the “pillow bao”
22:55 you should drink all the soup at the end cos the nutrients of all the food you cooked is infused into the soup! 👍❤️
Wow! Loves it! 🥰
Da Yu Hot Pot temporarily closed and wasn't getting great reviews when it was open. :(
Shanghai 21 was excellent (dumplings = YES) as was the Chinatown Ice-cream Factory.
Where do you park if driving a rental
Very good video -much more professional video than your average UA-cam video. I like the history lesson and stuff. But you don't like shrimp shumai!! Unbelievable! Most of the garment factories are dying out like much of NY. A lot of people are into health care/home attendant work now.
I used know of many restaurants there decades ago. East broadway below the bridge had a few excellent szechuan establishments.
When I visit a country for food trip, I only order just one food per restaurant so I can cover more
New York Minute with the Oslen twins
Can u do a video about "Friends" spots? Maybe is somethig cool in NY to see for fans of this show? :)
16:34 lotus roots
Sadly, I rarely venture off of Canal St. Hard to find a parking garage. Maybe now I can find a place to eat...if I can get my family past the ducks hanging in the window.
China town near the Manhattan bridge has some of the cheapest produce, some trucks sell it that just got it from the market in the bronx. So cheap.... Love shopping and eating in China Town!!!
It is very dangerous at night. Loved the video😘
Edgar Torres no its not.
woah just one correction about nyc rent prices. 2.85k isnt lower end of price for new york. average is about 2.3k for a 2 bedroom, idk what shes talking about. u can find even cheaper in staten island 2 bedroom for 1.3k a month but it is staten island
It’s a lotus tuber.
Do a LA or Vegas video please!!
that is called lotus root
👍👍
16:32 that's lotus
If you want *amazing* soup dumplings go around the corner from Nom Wah to Joe's Shanghai on Pell Street. Their soup dumplings are wayyyy better than Nom Wah's. But -- Nom Wah is better dim sum over all.
that is lotus root
Sarah, did you get full of complimentary in every restaurant you have visited in your video?
i figured that she paid for the food. I don't think that chinatown restaurants think of youtube content creators as a kind of marketing expense.
I wish to be back there. Why people from Europe cant go to US :(
Is there a Chinatown dollar store there?
