You're not wired up right Rob - absolutely crackers and I love it ! Fantastic content, you dare go where others won't, the reason is you know exactly what you're doing, you have the knowledge, experience and wherewithal if the worst happens - this all comes with years of hands on - roll on the next episode. ( I'm a retired tech. and love this stuff !!)

He's awesome isn't he? I would say that he's wired up proper, it's the rest of the world that's wired all wrong. If we had free thinking people like him running the place, this world would be a lot better off.

Loving your experiments. Due to watching your crazy stuff, I added a mantle to a simple beer can 'penny stove' and run it on Methanol now on the table when I sit outside at night. It's like a mini patio heater and runs on just a few spoonfuls of Methanol. Keep up the good work dude, you are an inspiration :)

Rob, I made a couple of these a few decades ago to provide heat and cooking facilities in the outback remote station camps for the Jackaroos here in Australia. From my experiments the vortex doesn't have to be as large as you made it and make sure you have the vortex going in the right direction, clockwise in the southern hemisphere and anti clockwise in the northern.
I ended up taking the vortex out due to melting pots and pans.
    Great videos, keep it up.

CORN burner from a hopper outside the farmhouse with a worm feed, My sister in Canada had this setup back in 2018. Easy to grow dry and store compared to wood pellets ?
One interesting point is they harvest the corn around October so that it is as dry as possible; the corn is usually sent for storage and they weigh it and then dry it then weigh it again and charge you for the moisture removed.

Howz about putting the mantle on a slide, as it almost is anyway, such that it goes up and down the shaft and permits only what you allow. Also, this needs to be part of a system that makes ash removal real-time so that the unit doesn't need to be down whilst serviced. But I'm a stickler. Love this.

I wanted to try something like this but with one of those cheap wood gas camping stoves and add an impeller at the bottom near the stove cone and a glass chimney almost like the StoveTec Firefly lanterns but with a vortex! Then as a madman myself convert it to a somewhat improvised rocket mass heater.

    FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥 ! 😱
    LOL 😀!
Needs a radiator and copper coil system so the stove can go outside. It would need a flue or chimney system to be safer to use the stove inside. If it's over 4kw you would need ventilation or an air intake coming from outside depending on the size room you are putting it in. A gravity fed pellet , old timber or pallet wood system would be great.
    Keep em coming.! 🔥👍

Well I am caught without words except that I had to continually watch the ceiling tile for a brown spot lol. Producing heat does not seem to be the problem I wondered about a large closed space being used to capture the heat without killing the draft. Cheers you will soon be able to have a smaller fire and more heat.

  • @JehuMcSpooran

I've got an idea on how to throttle it. If the vortex baffles could move, an iris mechanism could be used to close all three at the same time. It would allow you to vary how open they are or shut them completely.

The mantle also has the bonus of working as a spark arrester; any that make it through the mesh will be too small to start a fire.

Hi from France, you have made a very nice twirl, maybe the Coriolis Effect plays a role here. Have you taken it here ?
Or could you made here an opposite sense of twirling for providing a "visual proof" ?
Very well done, maybe an annular ash tray could be useful to avoid any zig-zag hot point ^^
Very fine stainless steel can be found also.
Spot resistance welding can also be used with extra-long arms for such narrow and deep pipewire linear weld.
    Best regards & greetings !

The purpose of a mantle is to get hot and radiate heat (or light). To do this you have to force the exhaust gases through it.
I would try an inverted cone in the top so that the diameter narrows as it rises. In theory the extra pressure at the top should force more gas out at the bottom.
Or perhaps a simpler solution would be a cone shaped mantle, perhaps even doubled up to increase resistance (or a cap on top).

Amazing modifications! It did pose a question, would the vortex flame get taller and hotter if the length of the chimney were much taller? How tall should a chimney be in order to have the same pull of air flow as you had there with the fan on? Also would the material the chimney is made from, would this also improve the airflow? Like making it out of sandstone?

    @heywoodjabozoff9383 2 роки тому

this is the problem i had with the rocket stove : it burns too quickly.
On the other end of the spectrum is the woodgas stove; the problem with that is the risk of the fire going out, so a fan is useful. If there were a way, like the throttle regulator on a gas engine, to increase air depending on the heat output, to control air intake to slow down the burn without extinguishing the flame, that would be the best of both designs.
